SE outsourced their servers overseas to cut costs and they went down. Since different pieces of the game are stored on different servers (Leviathan is not on a single server) you are unable to access then within a certain range of IPs. This is from a SE representative himself that I was on hold for 40mins before I spoke to him. He said its a waiting game and there is nothing North America can do, it is up to the Japanese to fix it.

I'm sure this was posted elsewhere, but people still seem to disagree. It is the truth and it explains everything. End of story.

Yea sorry OP but you are full of it. Anyone who can run Ethereal or netstat while FFXI is in the background knows the connection goes straight to an IP address block owned directly by SE themselves.

People should stop spreading these unfounded rumors about "3rd party or outsourced service", because it has been proven time and time again to be false. Until someone comes up with a recorded conversation between them self and an IDENTIFIABLE SE employee, or SE puts out an official announcement concerning the issue, no one but the gullible will believe it.

The name of the guy I got the 3 times I called was Charles and if you would spend the time to wait on hold and talk to him yourself instead of being lazy and waiting for a recording, you'd know. Now, if SE is lying then that's another thing, but I heard this with my own two ears from SE themselves. Call them. You don't need to take my word for it, but you can't refute it.

It leads me to believe that none of the SE employees give out their real names, cause the only guy I've ever gotten to speak with was named Charles. Could be that they just have one guy running the phones. lol

Ahh the infamous Charles. Wasn't there a thread with his name in the past couple of days? Oh yea there was, and it was false. Could be a disgruntled employee, maybe your just lying overall, or continuing to spread mis-information.

Me lazy? Hardly. Since this is such a big issue with threads full of people threatening even legal action over the matter, writing letters, etc, you would think someone who waits on hold for 40 minutes and is pissed enough to even calling SE's support they would at least record it. After all consumer advocates everywhere do it! Certainly, *someone* would record a CS conversation over this r0 debacle to post as some sort of evidence.

Sorry dude, but I have a day job. I can't AFFORD to spend time on hold for over 40 mins because of a game.

Charles? Are all the CSRs called Charles or something? Every time a person says they talked to a CSR from SE, I swear, the CSR's name was Charles... Every. Single. Time.

Well, as I see it, everyone always assumes the worst and that the company is "out to get you" but in reality, it is a company just like any other. It comes as no surprise they may have outsourced overseas mainly becuase every company does it. You know all those telemarketers from India that call you, or how about 95% of your stuff being made in China. Think about it logically.

Then you're playing the wrong game.

You already waste money and hours of your life on it, whats 40 mins on a headset.

Yea, I agree. Then again, the only way I could get a real person to talk to and not a pre-recorded message was the "Technical Problems" line.

Hah, well personally I'd rather be playing. But you know, I've gotta live and pay bills too. My point is, I work a 9-5 job, which is when SE's support numbers are open. And on top of that, I'd rather not waste my time or effort calling SE to complain about something I'm frankly not really worried about, while working.

When i called, I didn't complain. I asked him straight up, "What's the deal?" and he told me an answer. Be it something they conjured up to silence calls or not, it was something definite. It means I can stop ******** with my router and ISP and wait for them to fix it.

And I goto college 7am-10pm. I work there as well. I don't care what you work, etc, etc. I don't care. If you aren't going to call him up, you have no place to say its a lie.

Yea I'm a hypocrite? I'm not complaining about the r0 problems. Rather I'm complaining about the thousands and thousands of "OMGz r0" threads and the spreading of false bullshiat rumors. Especially this "they outsourced their servers" crap, especially when I have seen first hand that all FFXI related connections are still going to JAPANESE APNIC IP Address space controlled by Square Enix, Inc. themselves.

But ofcourse we must trust the clueless level one CS rep at SE, without any credible information or prior proof asides from the OP's word? Suuuure.

I think they are telling anyone that actually calls anything they can think of to pacify the caller. One other thread has Charles from SE telling the caller to give their account information to someone that can log in so that person can move your character to an area not blacked out. Now with recent posts by SE does that statement seem a bit strange? I opened a chat line with them 2 days ago to ask about timing out when being moved from POL to the server and they came back with it's all part of the congestion problem. The more I think about it the more I start to think the problem with creating a char on one server to find it's on another could be a larger issue then they even know. Maybe the one post is close to the truth and our local information is being forwarded to the wrong server also. just a thought.
