Description

Numerous paths and tunnels snake through Yhoator Jungle, a tropical forest which covers most of the Elshimo Uplands. Towering above the northern horizon of Yhoator Jungle is Mt. Yuhtunga, where daring adventurers can find entrances to Ifrit's Cauldron. To the south lays the remnants of the Temple of Uggalepih, and on the eastern edge of the jungle are caves leading to the deadly Den of Rancor.

Unlike Yuhtunga Jungle, tonberries roam freely throughout Yhoator Jungle. The tonberry race is based in the Temple of Uggalepih, with others occupying the Den of Rancor. Adventurers must be careful not to get on the bad side of these small, awkward creatures.

Points of Interest

  • Zone into Ifrit's Cauldron at G-6 and I-5.
  • Zone into Den of Rancor through the cave at J-7.
  • The Teleport-Yhoat crystal is in the clearing at F-9.
  • The outpost for this zone is at I-8.
  • The ??? at I-7 is used in the quest True Will - NIN AF3.

Maps

The Map of the Elshimo regions, which includes Yhoator Jungle, can be purchased for 3,000 gil from Promurouve in Lower Jeuno or Rusese in Upper Jeuno.

You didn't say what server you were on. I hope you come back and read this. :) These are the NPCs where you can get maps of the local Elshimo Island regions containing Zones:
* Kazham
* Yhoator Jungle
* Yuhtunga Jungle

Promurouve Lower Jeuno H-7 Map Dealer
Rusese Upper Jeuno H-6 Map Dealer

Purchase: 3,000 gil

:::EDITING:::

Samurai flag guest though... (I'm glad I came back and read more.)
You'll have to go to Norg for that. You won't be able to get the map to Norg until you start doing some Zilart missions.

Im a fisherman searching for Elshimo Frogs. Clanwind has a place called (Area = Yhoator Jungle (Waterfall)) where only Elshimo Frogs can be caught. This would be a prime spot for me, but the only waterfall I can find is the one near the Temple. Ive already caught a lot of rusty gear and some newts at this waterfall. Does anyone know where the waterall they are talking about is, or is it wrong information?? Clanwind is usually reliable, here is the site: http://www.clanwind.com/ffxi/fishing/default.asp?AREA=102 please help me out

I dont recall any other waterfalls in Yhoator Jungle so I think this is the one they mean.
Using a Halcyon Rod and a Fly Lure, I've caught a couple of frogs at this location. The frogs do seem to be a bit rare compared to the newts and items however, the catch rate was better here than in Yuhtunga Jungle from my experience.

Woo hoo, I just beat this pain in the **** NM. It's name is Edacious Opo-Opo, spawned by trading a Pamamas and a Wild Pamamas to the ??? at K-10. I had to trade I think the Pamamas first, then the Wild Pamamas, but it did spawn. This guy attacks FAST, slow is a must, and he also hit me pretty hard. I was 61 DRG/ 28 WHM, so kinda gimped sub. Halfway through, he ate fruit that healed his HP, and I had to let wyvern tank for a bit. In the end, I had no MP, 67 HP, and no wyvern, but the guy was dead. No drop, but I'm gonna try again. If I can dig up the pic, I'll post it.

I just got out of the Jungle and i had no trouble at all. I did get killed by agro, but not of the gob kind, but of his pet BEE! found out later that the bees agro to MAGIC! and got me while i was trying to save my tanks @$$. But its all good, died twice in that sucky party, but after that i had awsome partys and got 27-29 in one night and 30-31 with ease, i even got to pull mandy's at 31! Being RDM, that's rare. I dont know what's so bad about the jungle, you guys just need to be more carefull maybe, and take the time to use the 360 degree camera they give u.

Just a note, bees don't aggro to magic. there's a chance you aggroed the gob or attacked a wasp, becuse they only link to their owners and other wasps. Also, the reason people don't like the jungles is because of pts like that first one you mentioned. ^^

This may seem like it works but it will. There was really no main tank. We just balanced this perfect. I was the War/Monk with a polearm (cuase im levling it for dragoon) and the other war had a great sword. This was the best party ever.

Ok so I was with my static 2 out of the 4 members were missing so we asked one of the rng's in our static if he wanted to come lvl his nin sub with us he comes along. Well since our blm was also gone(nothing new he's been gone every other one cause of his parents and we just started last week) so we get a sam also. Anyway we're getting chain 3-4's every hit and were killing gobs by lvl 29 by the bakers dozen. I got d/ced right when my pt got a Chain 5 that gave 300 exp though >< kinda sad about that. But anyway from lvl 29-31 we friggen owned this place. but I'm glad now we get to go to Altepa.

I can honestly say that i hate the jungles! I went there to level my RDM and i did that, but what i didn't think about was how i was going to get back to Kazaam!! My party disbanded and i was stuck in the middle of the jungle with no map and no sense of direction. People all told me different ways to go but you know what? The darn place all looks alike!!! You swear you just went through this tunnel not even a minute ago! I ended up being stuck in that darn jungle for two weeks because no one would give me a tele or a warp! I ended up invising and going on my very scared merry way and somehow wondered over to Norg, where i jumped for glee when i found their residential area and i could change to my Blm and warp my booty home! What is sad now is i have to go back to finish up, but at the same time the good thing is i will be with my wife who is a whm. So we may get lost together but we will be able to fend off some of the mobs and invis through others. My recommendation is if you intend on going into that jungle, prepare not to come out. Load up on everything you could possibly need to survive out there for a few weeks. (spells, potions, food, drinks, etc) Its always better to be over prepared than underprepared!!

Good luck to all unwary travelers to the jungle and may the goddess guide you to safety as she did me.

Alternatively, if you don't mind spending the 750 CP, you can purchase a Scroll of Instant Warp, which does help, especially if you're not able to run out, Warp yourself, or have someone Teleport/Warp you.

The scroll of Instant Warp is a good idea.

Here's a better one (IMHO):

Search all of the various FFXI sites (besides this one) that have a lot of maps. I've run into several Yuhtunga/Yhoator maps on JP sites that include where ALL of the tunnels go to.

It is so much easier navigating around there with one of those maps than the in game map (which doesn't show the tunnels).

There are a few 'dead ends', but with the map it's actually pretty easy to get back from Yhoat to Kazham (with sneak/invis) at just about any level.

Some more little tips to partying in here:

1. If someone zones a Goblin Smithy through your party and it isn't destroyed before the party either dies or zones, that goblin WILL return the way it came, and that means aggro for you if it hasn't already got some other unlucky people. If your near an interesection, I recommend quietly switching sides so the Goblin can return without hassle to your group.

2. Goblins here are nasty. Don't think that just because your party is chaining Mandragora after Mandragora you're ready to start hammering away at the Goblin menace. Goblin Smithys hit 2-3 times harder than Mandys, and are just as rapid as Mandys attacks, and have the usual devastating AoE attacks that can level injured Mages. Mandragoras can clock you up some really nice exp if you're willing to find a good area that spawns Mandys close by. They don't aggro, they don't link, and they're easy fights. Why bother risking your lives to prove you have chest hair? If people in your party don't want to fight Goblins, respect that or part from them.

3. Getting back from here need not be as costly as you might think. As a Lv 30 WAR/SAM, I constantly run back to Kazham with little problem. I make sure to use Defensive Enhancements like Defender and Third Eye, then run non-stop as quickly as I can. Avoid aggro as long as you can, but I almost guarantee you'll get some clingers. If you're like me, you'll take two hits maximum and be so swift that you'll bring one, two at most, Gobbies back to the zone. Of course, I don't recommend doing this all the time, Warping is much better. If you do zone Gobs, be sure to give clear warning! On he Lakshmi server there are usually a few High-level players to dispatch aggroed Gobs.

After a really good run of Mandragoras, you'll find this jungle isn't as bad as it appears. In fact, you may even come to enjoy it for partying.

52mnk/war on gilgamesh server. I recently spent some time lvling my sub at Yuhtunga and Yhoator, and having taken 3 jobs there now, I'd like to offer some advice.

1. One of my pet peeves is blind invites: If someone pops a blind invite at you, chances are they have no respect for other players in the game, and thus will be the type to zone a gob right through 5 pt's. >.< I generally turn them down, though occasionally I get one from someone I know, and can't refuse :p

2. A post made earlier mentioned,

"If your leader decides he/she knows this wonderful camp out in the middle of nowhere... disband immediately."

I'd like to point out that there are several entrances to the jungle, and if you truly MUST stay near the zone, keep in mind that there are4 or 5 different places to do so. Having said that, There are three tunnels I can think of offhand that do not spawn gobs, in yhoator, and are WELL WORTH the travel there. If one can get there, one can get back.

3. Bring a warp scroll, if you're not a BLM or have /blm. You might not want to spend the CP, or are saving for somethng, but you have to stop and consider: What's more important, CP or XP?

4. Zoning out to Yuhtunga, and then to Kazham, on FOOT, is cake. Always remember to head NW, at every possibility, and all you'll need is Invis. Tonko, Invis, and prism powders are great; at 33WAR/NIN it took two castings of tonko to get back, and I stopped on the way to help kill a gob.

5. Please, everyone, if you suck at pulling, tell someone. Don't be a proud *ss and think that because you are THF or NIN, you are automatically the best puller in the game; Chances are if you're that cocky, you're really NOT that good, and someone else should pull. We had a RNG/NIN who raved about his pulling skills, until his first pull, when he mis targetted a gob smithy and manage to pull him and three of his friends right into and through the middle of us and two other pt's. I'm thinkin he should go PLD, so he doesn't have to pull.

6. The most important rule is this: this is a game. Nothing more. If someone from a different pt is pulling mobs through your party, and aggro'ing gobs, don't start a /shout war. Its annoying, and really clutters up the battle chat. Some of us like to leave the filter off just in case someone truly DOES need help :/

The NPCs will be at the outpost itself - and I dont know of any others.

If you didn't see them, it was likely on a week when none of the countries had control over the region.

It's not a bad place once you find a camp that's out of the gobby train zone, especially if you pick one far away from anyone else.

Also, in order to get back to Kazham, you only need invisible... sneak isn't needed at all for the goblins. I've made the trip back alive before without having warp or a mage to cast invisible on me, but it takes patience. It also helps to memorize the paths to the various places you're going, whether that's Sea Serpent Grotto or Yhoator. Getting lost while trying to find the way back is the #1 cause of unfortunate deaths.

Just wondering if the situation in Yhoator is a wide spread phenomenon in for all server.

I am in Quetzalcoatl server and it's terrible in Yuhtunga and Yhoator Jungles, constant gob zoning, and the occasional high lv jackass that zones 10+

I can recall a occasion where a lv 75 JPN THF zoned about 15 Goblin Hunters/Reapers/Robbers/Poachers, a Overgrown Rose, and sevral Opo-opo's(dont agro but annoying) all while shouting the(not meant to be racist) {Run Away!}{Train} d(^~^)b

Has anyone (Cerberus Server) noticed that this area has gotten insanely hard? I was here about a month ago and had no problems, I was here last night and had the thrill of my life.

Gobs were storming the zone in pairs. Last night there were 8 goblins at the zone for well over 2 hours. Nothing could be done until peoples HL LS members showed up to kill them. It was a carnage of dead players. To top it off the mandys took over 15 minutes to kill (even with a party of high lvl advances) Im giving up on this Jungle and going to Battalia Downs.

Anyone care to join?

I'm on Remora, and Yuhtunga seemed like the **** party had been revived in the Goblins. I walked in, and there were corpses strewn all across the zone. Raises were being used roughly every 5 seconds, and apparently a Goblin army had attacked.

Yes... it is at F-9... and as someone mentioned it is surrounded by aggroing MOBs. Not only Aggroing... but aggroing even to meat lv 55 >:-P

Oh, and rather hard hitting too. (Master Coeurls tend to be no fun to fight alone)

Have fun :)

This location is correct. Be advised that there is no chocobo dealer by the telepoint, and that aggressive mobs roam freely in the vicinity.

Here is some more jungle-horror:

I play on the Bismarck server and was levelling RDM to 30. Our party consisted of WHM/SUM, BLM/WHM, RDM/BLM (me), WAR/PAL, RNG/NIN and DRG/BST (don't ask). With me pulling (yes RDM pulls, works great with blink)we had a good time and I levelled from 27 to 29 in about 4 hours using SC & MB. Then disaster struck.

A fellow Mithra 60+ DRK/THF who was farming Gobs and bees in the area (and keeping the lower levels safe that way) had attacked an Anemone. Needless to say she panicked, used flee, ran to zone and got killed in a few hits.
Afterwards the Anemone was having the day of his life killing off every lowlevel in the area. Our WHM and BLM were out of mp due to us chaining mandy's. I slapped an invis, sneak and deodorize on the whm and then the Anemone killed me with two hits for 344 and 416 damage. Five minutes later it wandered off to its original place leaving about 20 corpes in its wake.

Now comes the REALLY bad part.

The WHM came out of protection and started raising fellow WHM's. A few minutes later half the dead were raised when the Anemone decided to come back for round 2. Result: 6-8 dead parties splattered across the jungle, about 4 or 5 dead high levels 50-60 and a lot of swearing and shouting after I contacted my LS and had two members (NIN/WAR70 and WHM/BLM71) kill the Anemone, and raise the WHM's. About an hour later everyone was raised and ready to go. Needless to say that the Mithra-was-name-I-shall-not-mention was not very populair any longer as people were shouting not so nice abbrevations towards her.

Anyway my conclusion:
Watch out for Morbols, you can kill Gobs with teamwork but Morbols will kill your teams with no work at all.

Had a similar experience...

Was lvling, somewhere near 30. Some *** decides it's cute to zone an Anemone. Chaos ensues. The 3 L50's by the zone who were picking off trained gobs immediately engage it and call it. About 40 people pile on it quicklike. I decide to join in the fun. Two swings, two misses. So, I disengage.

I'm back with my group, 2 pulls later, when the Anemone is done munching on the mass that faught it. It remembers my whiffs and promptly wanders over and kills me in 2 shots. Party does their best to go invisible, we lose 1-2 more people, Anemone gets bored and starts wandering back the way it came, which just happened to be through a group or two that had decided to camp the empty spots left by the dead groups, then through whatever had been raised, then through the rest of the zone (and 2-3 more camps) home.

It took several hours and a rescue squad of 5 HL WHMs to get everyone back on their feet. There were quite a few GM calls and a flurry of /blisting.

Moral of the story: See an Anemone? RUN. I've got friends in the 60s that won't touch those things.

Note: unless you are a blm with warp or a whm with invis and sneak, you will never leave theses areas alive while trying to get back to Khazam! After reading most of the comments on this page, it is easy to see that a contagious disease has gripped Yhoator Jungle and its sister, Yuhtunga Jungle. It is the diesase of those who would rather zone a gob rather than sacrificing him/herself for the good of all the parties near the zone. It is the diesase of those who honestly don't know how to pull a Mandy to save their soul. Of course, I'm talking about newbitis. It's unforunate that this happens, especially in areas where leveling is so easy from 25 - 32+. C'est la vie.

After around 27 or so I got tired of waiting for invites (besides the basic thf stigma) at Yuhtunga and decided to hoof it to Yhoator Jungle even though I had only been there once (on full /follow and on chocobo, spending more attention on an LS argument). Basically it took about 15 minutes of sneaking around Goblin Smithys in the tunnels and...crap one saw me...ok so I flee it up and 2 more grunt their dissaproval...run, run, run..hey!! Zoned into Yhoator!! Nice..so..peek around and stumble back into the main alley at Yhoator (seraph knows what I'm talking about) Just a popular stretch of about 10 parties at a time around f7. Finally scrounged together a good party and just scouted for our own camp off the main madness....found a nice tunnel populated by lizs and let the 188 - 200 exp per kill flow in. Don't listen to the bad hype; get a good puller (like me) to carefully scout for the goods and camp away from gobs. Easily raked in the exp quickly with SC + MB and had a great time. I'll see you guys and girls in Yhoator again tonight!! (one quick pointer to the pullers out there; if a gob aggros....LET IT KILL YOU and have the whm raise you when the gobs get curious about something else..Its certainly better than running back to the party like "aaah gob aggro!! What do I do?? HElp!!!" Yes I did it once but it was my first pull in my first experience here...I saved my party by not leading it to them...unlike others on that main stretch...><..go find a clear spot in the jungle!!)

That thing is freaky!

I was leveling one of my jobs in Yhoat once in one of the 'hidden tunnels' that make incredible camps. The tunnels have lizzies in them, and Mandys and Gobs are at both ends but won't come in unless they aggro somebody who is pulling, etc. Perfect for chaining Mandys, as the pulls are super short and they pop right outside the camp so to speak.

We were finishing off a mandy once in the tunnel when a high lev ran through past us - being followed by several gobs and the tree NM. It freaked the **** out of us. Luckily it somehow didn't come back our way (same thing for the gobs), even though we waited for it in case we needed to sneak/invis quickly.

I've never felt compelled to post on this website (Which is the DEFINITIVE website for FFXI)
But after a week in the jungles trying ever so hard to lvl my war so I can get the ****-o kitty out of there, and having party after party after party fall to the ground because they were clueless, I want to point out a few things about this jungle.

1. Yes, you do need a full time healer in your party... 2 part time healers do not make a full time mage. 2 WHMs are actually nice due to the down time of having to wail on a mandy.

2. If your leader decides he/she knows this wonderful camp out in the middle of nowhere... disband immediately. If you do not know your way around this jungle and you are led off like a blindfolded visitor to the bat cave, you will die trying to out run a goblin while running around in search of the zone. Which brings me to my next point.

3. STOP ZONING THE GOBLINS. You are better off using /help! Release the goblin before heading down that long cave back to jungle 1 (Yu tab)^_^ . Last night there were so many people zoning gobs, that our party was attacked by 5 of them at once as they came out of the cave. We called for help and immediately had at least 20 frustrated players and several high lvls kicking the living day lights out of the potential killers. Walking back to the zone after they were dead was insane. There had to be at least 12 dead bodies in various stages of zoning. So please, don't zone the gobs, you or someone you love will die.

And finally, make sure you have invisible, warp, or enough of a cushion to make it back to Kazham. Who ever made the map for Jungle 1 must have been high, because the other night I was doing great until I ran smack dab into a Marbol. I spent quite a while standing in the distance watching this gracefully hideous creature hover around... that was until I got slammed by 3 gobs.. It was only so long after RUN FORREST RUN that I met my death.

Good Luck Happy LVLING!

Rate up for saying to stop zoning the gobs. :P Hehe. When I leveled there, it was a ***** to get anything done because EVERYONE WOULD ZONE THE GOBS. And gobs come back, see you, and you just raped. ^^ Call for help or let it kill you instead of the whole zone. :] Anyway.

I remember the earlier days of leveling, before I had stopped to collect all the advanced jobs, and before I spent so much time leveling my other jobs and farming for money to buy expensive equipment. Those days, in Yhoator, were peaceful.

People knew how to pull, and how to pull well. People weren't so afraid of gobs; L30+ parties would cast Barfira and treat it as a normal mob. If it were too strong for us, we'd stay in one place, call for help, and all the neighboring groups would come over and help us get rid of the menace. Sure, it was a bit cramped, but we always found enough room not to put the neighboring party to sleep while still leaving room for the mages. It was even safe enough to put parties in front of or inside the tunnel to Yuhtunga.

When I returned to that place, after awhile of hammering out my other obligations, I realized the place had changed. No longer was anyone safe. People would zone several gobs to the zone, killing innocent people along the way. Once the gobs returned from the tunnel, they attacked the nearest group on their way back. Nobody bothered to help, or was brave enough to hold their ground and call for help. It didn't even occur to them that they could fight back. People had become hostile and rude toward each other, and the spaces were cramped beyond capacity. Every time I ventured to Yhoator, I got killed multiple times, and people wouldn't hesitate to leave a group within the first death, or the first five minutes. Money was an issue, too, as I had left my home point in Jeuno in case I needed to return quickly. I was losing exp and money, fast.

I got /tell s inviting me to Yhoator, but I turned them down. I figured that there had to be some other way.

I tried for a few days to get people to level elsewhere. Most people were too busy, or didn't have time to trek to new places. Many didn't know how to get to the places I had suggested. However, one faithful day, as I was calling out with my L30 thief (deleveled back to 2k below), a party began to form. A white mage, a red mage, and a paladin answered that they'd accompany me to the Eastern Altepa Desert. One of them asked if their bard friend could come along. I was ectatic. All we needed was another tank, perhaps a puller and damage-dealer at that. Finding nobody available at the time, the lot of us decided to head to Bastok and pick someone up along the way.

We headed out on our journey. One of our members waited for an airship, while the rest of us went choco-back. Upon arriving in Gustaburger, I found a dark knight, apparently mining in Palborough at the time, who agreed to accompany us. Once all business matters in Bastok came to a close, the six of us assembled in Zeruhn Mines. We trekked to Korroloka, but one of us accidentally picked up a gigas while crossing the first bridge. Having zoned it, our dark knight mentioned something about a lag and server problems and had to log off for a few minutes. While our white mage waited for him, I led the others through the tunnel and returned just in time to guide the other two through.

Next, we had to travel to the telepoint for the other members to obtain their crystals. We cast Sneak and used Silent Oils to get there, but we didn't need them that much until we got to the lightning bolt-shaped crevasse which contained the telepoint. We just ran northeast and avoided anything that might latch on. Once that was settled, we traveled almost due east to the entrance to Western Altepa Desert. From there, we merely had to travel north to get to the tunnel.

At Rabao, I showed our party members the map vendor and let them go about their business. I believe it was then that one of our party members (I forget which, but it was either our red mage or the dark knight) bid us adieu. From there, we waited for awhile, me asking people across the globe to join us. We managed to find a warrior / ninja to come to our aid, a lovely mithra named Greentea. I had to utilize my limited comprehension of the Japanese language, but she teleported herself to Altepa, met us in Rabao, and switched back to her warrior self. Then was the plan in place.

We all went together to East Altepa again. This time, the plan was to gain experience. One of our members suggested to go to K-7, saying that he or she had heard it somewhere before. This advice proved to be golden; we were getting many chains, and at no point did the exp drop below 100. We fought many anticans and some beetles, collecting some dark crystals and antican pauldrons along the way. The experience points came very fast; I managed to get from a mid-30 to a high 31 in no time.

Soon enough, it was time to go. We were getting rather tired, so we headed back to Rabao. Some of us had accidentally set our home points in the desert, so Greentea teleported us to the crag of Dem. I took a chocobo from there back to Jeuno with the paladin close behind, and I did a little business, planning on turning in for the night.

That wasn't the last I heard from Greentea. Before I had a chance to log, I got a tell from her, asking me to join her back in the desert. I gladly obliged. This time, the party consisted of mostly Japanese players, though I cannot recall the make-up. They all had the teleport crystal already, so she teleported us there. We reached the eastern side of the East to West Altepa entrance, waiting for Greentea to come back with her warrior again. We went back to the same area, a ways further south than before, and hunted primarily beetles. The experience points came rolling in. We were making about 6k an hour (an entire level!), bringing me up to 33 before the party ended. I had reset my home point to Jeuno, so I merely Warped back.

I then realized that even though my thief had escaped the Wrath of Yhoator, my white mage still sat at L29. I sent my thief equipment to my mule and had my mage equipment sent back to me. I got several invitations from Yhoator, but I declined each of them. I did, however, get a message from someone forming a non-Yhoator party in Jeuno, but by the time I had replied, the position was filled. I decided to get some business done in the three starting cities (storage in Windurst, buckets in Bastok, and an affair near San d'Oria). It was when I was past the door in Ranguemont Pass headed for the Zvahl telepoint when I was told that a position had opened up. I replied that I would aid them once I got the crystal and got back to Jeuno. I held true to my word and met them in Sauromugue Champaign, behind the bone wall.

The experience points were excellent at first, hampered later by the rise in levels. The chains kept the party alive, though. It was a very relaxed party; our main tank was a taru ninja and the other taru white mage and I took turns healing while the other went elsewhere for extended periods of time. After I had reached 31, I was asked to stay for "just" another 3k, at which point three people leveled.

In the end, to my surprise, I have successfully managed to avoid the Wrath of Yhoator. I have yet to attempt to level in Beaudecine Glacier, but it appears to be possible. Until then, adieu. Be vigilant, I beseech thee.

But wait, the PS2 has been playing this twice as long as the PC..... I wonder what the JPNs said about the first of the PC players, american and japanese alike..........No doubt much the same as you say about the american PS2 players.....like the kettle calling the pot black.

Quote:
because of yhoator and the ps2 noobs there

Really? I thought it was just noobs in general, I mean a PC or a PS2 really doesnt change a newb into a noob by meer platform, that takes enviroment and training. I can't count the number of times I've had people be rude to me, and most high level.....would that mean that somehow the PS2 players monopolize rudness in-game? Is the first question you ask are you PC or PS2? how do you know that the players are all PS2? Maybe they're PC players taking the chance to masquerade as newbs, I mean **** when youre lvl 75 and decadent what else is there to do? Maybe its LS's like UberLink, or the other leet players who are rude to the new ones, thus insuring the rude ones are rude to others? Don't blame it on platform, or try to pin it on anything except Karma, who knows, it may be possible that the "Firstborn" (the PC players usual attitude, though it is mistaken....) were a tad rude to start with and were pushed back? Just a thought anyway.

Quote:
but one can only wish

Or one could try to take a pro-active approach and be polite and helpful as you expect them to be, and cut them the slack that you were cut when you started, I think Squares biggest mistake was releasing this american PC before PS2, it made alot of people think that the game was meant for the PC. as it stands now:

JPN PS2: 778 days
JPN PC: 603 days
Zilart : 442 day
Amr PC: 269 days
Amr PS2: 101 days

courtesy Mysterytour

Thats looking like the PS2 has more than a year on the PCs of america..........
It also looks like the JPN PS2->JPN PC release date is near the same spread as NA PC->NA PS2, yet to NA players they arent JPN PC and JPN PS2, they are JPN a unit of people who are not distinguished by the machine they choose to play on. Hmmm, strange to me that we are so **** with this arguement that it becomes ford/chevy/dodge ALL over again.

I'm on Caitsith and I see a large amount of people in Yuhtunga die every day, more than anywhere else. I hear people swearing at each other. A big noob fest. Then I hear from people from in my ls that say Yhoatar is 10x worse.

Well my experience in Kazham has been good so far. My first time there, I leveled from 25-28 in a day (about 5-6 hours) in Yuhtunga. I only died once. We chained mandras until 27-28, then we took on gobs. My party consisted of 2 PLDs, 1 Drg, 1 BLM, 1 WHM, 1 THF. We got 240 xp in chains so many times. So it's not always the case that it's tough to get xp there. You just got to choose people who have experience. Look for people who are leveling their special jobs or people who are keeping their subjob levels up. Those are usually the more experienced players. And if you find a good leader or good party member, befriend them cause it's rare to find good players these days. A good puller is always someone to be friends with because the xp chains depend on them. And a good BLM is a must too for aggro. A good BLM knows how to cast Elemental Seal -> Bind or Sleep to keep gobs away from the party while they zone. PLD and WAR, as long as they know how to voke, thats all you really need. good luck, and don't be afraid to leave the party if members start dying all the time!

The time you spent asking your party to call for help you could have just typein /help by yourself. It's not that hard.

Do you have any suggestions for alternatives to Yuhtunga? At the time of writing this, I am a level 26 black mage (but with only 200 to level), and I am so incredibly sick of Yuhtunga. I'll get into a party and, we'll get a goblin spawning right beside us. Half the party shouts, "ZONE!" I shout, "call for help!" and of course, nobody listens. It's apparently easier to zone the smithies than to call for help and get everyone to get rid of them.

Last night, the party I was in took a trip to Yhoator. The experience reward from mandragoras there was wonderful. Close to 200 per kill. We saw no goblins for a long, long time.

Then disaster struck. I don't know where the goblin came from, but it attacked. Chased our white mage down and killed her. Then, it came back for more. In the end, our white mage, our two Galka tanks, and our other, Hume tank, all perished. Only myself, the lowest level of the group and a Tarutaru to boot, and the Dragoon, who had just leveled to 27, survived.

Fortunately, someone with a good head on their shoulders found the goblin and attacked it, then called for help on it. Everyone in the zone had suffered some losses, so we all went after the goblins (By this time, some three or four more, plus a bee had joined the goblin party and were hovering over our dead).

It was great fun seeing everyone gang up on the hapless goblins, but it wasn't worth the time it took.

When I got to Kazham, I was really excited. Finally, I'd make those last five levels and be able to get the advanced jobs I've wanted for so long. Now, I find myself hating Kazham and its jungles with a passion. Yuhtunga is too slow, has far too many goblins, and many people who don't know what they're doing. My experience in Yhoator was good, but you've shown better alternatives...ones that don't cost 200 gil every time you want to get Signet back because nobody travels back to get Signet so some people can benefit from having a Signet option in-jungle, as well as a home point (if you're adventurous).

So, is there a better way than Yuhtunga? I know there has to be somewhere, but I don't know the game well enough to even hazard a guess at another option -- I learned long ago how much of a better place Korroloka Tunnel was than Valkurm Dunes to get through the mid and upper teens. I'd rather solo as a black mage than party at Yuhtunga and Yhoator, but I don't know where to go. Please show me the light.

Hrm, that's a tricky one. I've rummaged through the files and my old stragegy guide (circa Fall '03, but its bestiary has accurate level ranges for each individual area, rather than accounting for the levels of all areas that mob is found in. Unfortunately, it didn't include any information about the newer areas recently added in.

I do remember, though, that spiders in Altepa were conning from DC to T when I was fighting the other enemies there. You really want to bring a Paladin, though--their Death Sickle attack is a killer if aggro's on the wrong person. It's along the lines of Screwdriver, if ya remember that...

On the other hand, my research didn't turn up too much. Since Yuhtunga Mandras were listed as 29-33 and one usually stays in Yuhtunga past the point where mandras wear out. I'd look for enemies in the 29-36 range. Though there were a few bats or other enemies listed here and there, I found a limited amount of enemies.

One could venture to the shores of Batallia Downs and fight Cutters and Dagons (crabs and pugils, respectively). Given, I haven't yet tried this, so I'm not sure how safe this would be.

People have always been so afraid of hunting beastmen for xp, so they've often turned to natural enemies instead. Though gobs can be annoying (especially without Barfira for your whm), I'd probably try to xp off of them, if you can.

For the Yuhtunga lvl, I'd suggest fourth-tier beastmen. This includes:
Goblins (Furrier, Pathfinder, Shaman, Smithy)
Orcs (Beastrider, Brawler, Impaler, Nightraider)
Quadavs (Bronze, Garnet, Silver, Zircon)
Yagudo (Drummer, Herald, Interrogator, Oracle)

Odds are you'd be finding these in the areas outside of Jeuno (Batallia, Rolanberry, Sauromugue) and the respective beastman strongholds (Davoi, Beadeaux, Oztroja). I do remember hearing people talking about leveling in Davoi and Oztroja before the Zilart expansion came out, so these might still be good places to level.

Sounds lovely. I have a lv 50 rdm friend who is eager for me to hit 32 so that I may party with his blm sub. I`ve spent 4 days in kazham and gained a total of 4 levels. Keep in mind that I play for an avaerage of seven hours a day. The only way I`ve reached lv 28 now is from the help of my dear rdm friend, for indeed the tunnels and small openings in the jungle are overcrowded with the Gob Railroad and rude parties. I will try to find a new place to level, such as sauromogue.

I haven't been back to that blasted jungle in a 1-2 months now, but it was just as bad as all have said before me, on Unicorn. I dread the fact that I might have to return to level my subjobs. Sigh.

I'm in Valefor, actually. As far as I know, it's happening everywhere. I'd strongly suggest looking for same-lvl alternatives to the typical American choices. Having had my first experience with Garlaige last night, I think I'm going to get a party together for Beaudecine or Altepa...

I followed after you and yesterday got my drg to lv 29 in Batallia killing tigers and gobs. Went to Altepa after that and found a party fairly quickly. What a wonderful party! We had two thfs, me [drg], a pld, rdm and a whm. Wasn`t too long though that everyone except a thief had to go. The whm gave me leader, and I found another whm in rabao, a summoner, a paladin in bastok and a black mage in LS came in from sandoria. The party was ranged from 29 [me] to lv 33 [the thf and blm] but I was still getting up to 195 xp. I did reach lv 30 last night.

Another thing I want to note is there was a simply amazing paladin in the party next to us. He was the puller and not once did he ever steal anything from us, and I made sure we returned the favor.

Thanks a lot for showing me there`s an alternative to Yhoator!

I got lost here yesterday for about an hour...no joke. Thank God for invisible (I'm a red mage, hehe). Kept me alive until I got sick of being lost and just killed myself.

The point, is that I saw alot of cool cool stuff while lost. This jungle has many little neat areas.

The marlboro thing the above poster is talking about is an "Anenrose" or something similar. Not the overgrown rose. It looks basically just like an upgrade to the marlboro. Also found many IT crawlers at level 29 out there. Zoned into Ifrits Cauldron (Hoping it was Yutuhnga so I could get the heck out...lol). Didn't go inside, just noted the entrance which was posted already. The thing I saw that nobody has posted about yet is: TONBERRYS!!! I didn't note the location, but I ran directly into some Tonberry camp. My invisible was running out at the time and I was out of mana so I had to run and get safe to med up. I went back and looked for them but couldn't find them afterwards.

This is definately a very cool place to be lost in, that's for sure. As long as you are feeling brave, and have invisible...I suggest taking an hour or two and wandering around just to check it out. Just make sure you can get back without suicide. ;)

Edit: For "Saving Face" purposes, I did not (And still don't) have the map. I'm broke. :(

The first time I got lost was actually pretty interesting. ^^ I'm a white mage, so it was pretty easy for me to explore around without too much hassle [But eventually it got annoying and I got my blm friend to Warp II me out]. There's a lot to see, I still take a choco and explore it sometimes on my own free will [Same wiyh Yuhtunga, which I'm trying to find Sea Serpant Grotto without a guide/map. Huzzah!] Would love to see the Temple of Uggalepih, which is where the Tonberrys are. :P Or Ifrit's Cauldron, even though I'd get murdered there.

Buy a Scroll of Instant Warp from the guard in Port Jeuno before leaving. It doesn't cost that much and you more than make up the conquest points in a solid session with Signet on in the Jungle.

A somewhat substantially more expensive option is to keep a supply of prism powder on you. You'll want a stack of this anyway (you never run out of chances to use it, especially if you haven't done your Rank 4 mission yet) so just buy some when you have the cash and bring it with you to Yhoator.

There ought to be a guide on 'how not to get slept by Dream Flower' but it's bloody common sense, people. Don't stand close to another pt, and don't stand to close to your own engaged mob if you're a WHM. If you think it's impossible then that's probably because you don't belong in Yhoator then. Go find somewhere else to level (Battalia Downs is good). Not every pt session is chickening out by chaining non-aggro mobs in a safe camp near zone.

I used to be cheap with my Conquest Points, but no longer: wandering through the jungles towards Kazham, each turn not leading me away from the North, watching the last melee of my ex-party's health drop, then see him back in Sandy, I would've traded my kingdom for a Chocobo.

I'm still too cheap to buy Prism Powders. Invisible graciously cast for me by our WHM lasted, oh, maybe three looks at the map, and you know for all that's worth.

But I'm cheapest of all about my exp, and I wasn't gonna lose it dying to no Smithy, or Furrier.

Excellent - I'll add the point about buying the Instant Warp in Port Jeuno. On that point, there's also a new quest called "A Discerning Eye" (so far not documented here), which can turn the Jeuno/Kazham run from a loss to a profit (crucial for someone who might otherwise shy away from returning to Jeuno just to get the scroll.

The Prism Powder alternative is also worthwhile mentioning. Even as expensive as it is, it's probably always good, past a certain point, for adventurers to have one stack each of Prism Powder and Silent Oil on them at all times, unless you're a WHM. (And even if you are a WHM, once you get to the real high-level zones where things aggro on magic.)

My guide did include a few tips about "how not to get slept by Dream Flower", but since it's oriented to people who've been in Yuhtunga a while, I assumed people knew the steps to avoid being slept when all circumstances were under their control - the guide only addresses the overcamping problem, which generally isn't.

Edit: Additions made, and it turns out that A Discerning Eye is on Allakhazam after all. And that it has variants in all the other airports as well. How nifty is that? :)

Here's a quick guide to killing Smithies in Yhoat:

Rule 1: Do not attempt until lvl29 or so, and with a good tank and a good whm.

Rule 2: Bomb toss with these guys can add up, and hurt. I had one that used bomb toss 4 or 5 times in a single fight. Have a monk in the PT and even if you can renkei with them....don't. Let me monk save TP, even if it gets to 300, for the Smithy that aggro you, and have him use Shoulder Tackle when the smithy readies bomb toss. This works beautifully. (I'm a monk, so I know from very personal experience). THIS CAN SAFE YOUR LIFE!

Rule 4: Camp in caves if at all possible. The caves near the yug-yhoat border don't have any gob pops in them, so camp there to avoid getting unwanted aggro. Note: Gobs DO usually pop just outside the caves, so be prepared to be surrounded by gobs when doing this, and get to know their pathing system so you can safely leave the cave!

Rule 5: Please be intelligent and try not to camp right outside the tunnel as you enter Yhoat. We all have stories of rediculously long gob trains ripping new @$$holes in the area from stupid pulls to zone. If you have no other choice but to camp here, try to do it while being surrounded by PTs on both sides so when the gobs return home from the zone they get the other PT and not you.

Finally, it is entirely possibly to chain these gobs, but you have to have a wonderful PT, and a high enough level grouping. I did this with:
whm32/rdm15
war33/sam12
drg32/war16
drg32/thf15
rdm31/war14
monk33/war15 <--me

We started with two mandys at first to get my the TP required to stop bomb toss, then chained gobs for as long as we could. We got a 6chain, and many 5s, and a ton of exp/hour.

I started with this PT at 31, left at 34, and kissed Kazham goodbye. Did this today (5/11) too.

These are some good tips for gob fighting. One thing to add though: Throughout my time playine FFXI I have found that there is another way to stop a bomb and potentually kill the gob. When he is charging to throw the bomb, run into his figure from the front or the side and you will sometimes see him drop the bomb (indicateing that you blocked it). It will either hurt your team some and kill the gob or just kill the gob. I've been able to make him drop the bomb a good 40-50% of the time. Its worth trying.

by the time the party members all hit 29, we were able to take the occasional single smithy train quite comfortably. just keep in mind when people train them to the zone, when the gob gets to the zone or kill the victim in the process, they start walking back out... people keeps going back to killing after the initial train and gets promptly aggroed by the gob going home, that party trains it to zone again, other parties makes the same mistake, and when it's all over, u got a heap of dead bodies and everyone lost like a half hours time easily if not more.

if it's a single smithy we tend to kill it if we can, same if we can pick one off of a multi smithy train; the goblin pathfinder and his bee is much tuffer tho and parties usually dont/cant kill it off but try to leave a clear path for it to go back to its usual spot instead of retraining it again and again. it will save yourself and others much time and xp.
