i had heard a lot about the pirates when i was a young lv 12. never saw them till i hit lv 20 whm. i kind of wanted to see what they were like bcuz my curiosity was sparked by the fear of pirates. since i didnt think they were that bad. anyway the day i finally heard that music i was like oh s***. i stayed and saw teh ship pull up (i was fishing >.<) and they rolled up right next to us. anyway make a long story it was awesome. ive never seen so many dead bodies in my life at the time.....till i went to qifum. its a lvl 25+ whm's nightmare. u almsot feel like a janitor wweeping up dust so many raises they're were. about the sea horror. that ******* plays rough. hit me 2 times i rode the ship and i died instantly. that sucked.
Yesterday I was attacked by pirates, luckily the game has an In-Game Translator, because there was a 75 whm on the boat, and was japanese, that was it, anyway, I was in the captains place-a-ma-jig and the "Crossbones" came in there while I was resting, did they open the door, or someone else, also, can they open the door to the main place under the hull of the ship?
Well, I found out the hard way that the Sea Monks can open the door to the captain's cabin. o.< I don't see why any of the others shouldn't be able to. Though when pirates attacked during my ship ride they stayed down on the deck wandering around aimlessly. Not sure about down in the cargo hold area, though.
I'm level 30 heading to Valkrum for the Bard quest completition. I decide to take the boat just for some old memories and maybe meet up with my arch nemesis the pirates. Turns out they come on up and board us. I check the "Ship Wight" and they're "Incredibly Tough" so I decide they are a bad idea. I check the "Crossbones" and they're "Decent Challenge"'s. I provoke one up the stairs to prevent links and start to beat it up. I got it down to about a quarter health and I was at a half. The thing does "Bloodsaber" and turns the fight to the worst. I have practically no health, the Crossbone has almost all of his, and a Ship Wight decides to link. Well I can't obviously hold up to that much hurt so I'm killed. A bard and a whm both in AF1 saved the day for me and the level 8 warrior. I get a raise on the ship and I'm off to Valkrum.
you were dead even if he hadn't used bloodsaber. Undead are Blood Aggro meaning your half hp and his quarter hp would eventually lead to your orange hp which would make the other pirates on the ship "Smell" you.
don't try taking these out at lower levels even if you think you can get one up top or inside without linking, a DC or EP can still = Death for you when you suddenly get swarmed from 40 feet away with a bunch of undead
I started taking the boat at level 12 (whm) I was so scared then when I when the music changed... Now only the sea horror scares me... I actually have fun taking the boat over and over again... And I am disapointed when there are no pirates attacking the boat!
i rode the boat when i was level 14, pirates attacked, had a level 60 paladin and a few level 40 red mages the paladin was taking almost them all on, the red mages healed him adn fought, i ran around dangurasely taking screen shots, they looked awsome though
Not everything on the boat in hard i soloed a DC sea Crab(w/help from other to boat thns again guys:)) I'm a lvl 18 RDM Only one person died and that was to a Sea Monk. So not everything on the boat will kill u.
Most of the time going up on deck is safe. Just keep an eye out for stuff that spawns on the deck, and don't ever fish.
It's when you start seeing those 'Sea Horror hits PoorBastard for 425 points of damage. PoorBastard was defeated by the Sea Horror.' messages scrolling by in your window that you should run back to the hold and just sit there.
Or if the music changes (not just stops. Changes). That's pirate time. Run to the hold. ^^;
Well, I guess I should consider myself lucky and unlucky at the same time... I experienced having the ship being invading by pirates and saw the actual Sea Horror. Sad thing was, I died 3 times from that Sea Horror...and nearly everyone died during that pirate "raid"
i have been riding the ship for not too long, i have never been invaded by pirates, nor i have i ever seen a sea horron, but i haven't ridden it in a while, so maybe something has changed.
I was on the boat last nite going to Mhaura and it was attacked by pirates...
Needless to say when we got to Mhaura, the dock was filled with dead bodies. About 3 or 4 players trained skellies, ghosts, and 1 Seamonk to the lower cabin area.
I have never seen so many dead bodies in my FFXI life.
On my first trip ever on the ship we were attacked by pirates. I cowered in the hold with my lvl18 BLM.
On the return trip the Sea Horror spawned and killed me when it chased someone down to the hold. You're not safe just behind the doors to the deck. Run and hide as far below decks as possible (or cast sneak on yourself to avoid being killed if you're below level 70 and this thing spawns.
If you should ever get killed you're actually still okay as lots of high lvl players ride the ship back and forth all day to fish and kill pirates/phantoms for their drops, so your odds of a raise are extremely good. I've never seen a pt board the ship to take the sea horror though.
I've been attacked by pirates twice. They are undead and generally undead seem to only spawn at night outside. So if you want to be attacked, I suggest riding the boat at night.
If anyone has been attacked during the day, please post to let me know.
I've haven't tried it yet myself but I was wondering if it's possible to ride the boat back and forth after only paying once. I only ask this because I took the boat from Selbina to Mhaura and they asked me if I wanted to proceed through the gate. So if I chose not to go through the gate could I stay and get back on the boat again without paying?
You can ride the boat as many times as you like once you pay the fare untill you talk to one of the characters that lets you out of the loading area. This also goes for Airship rides.
I was on the boat once and we were on the lower deck. I thought that it was safe there but it seems the sea horrors will come down if provoked! I'm looking for a confermation of this because it might have been just a fluke
Not really, the Sea Horror will only come downstairs if someone went upstairs, aggroed it, and survived long enough to get it within aggro range of someone downstairs, and that is getting it at least 1/2 way down the stairs. If it is upsatirs you can freely move about the bottom level, just dont go upstairs and get near the door as it can aggro through the door as it aggros by sound. ~.^
I was killed by an NM on this ship today, it was ghost class, I forget its name but it started with an E. I'm lvl 50. Anyone know what this is and what it drops?
i just have one thing to say...wtf are all those monsters doing on a boat ride??? there were about six skeletons, one phantom, and one sea monk on the deck of the boat...it was HORRIBLE!
Anyone know if the pirate attack or whatever it was has been removed from this? and if so is it permanent or temporary? rode the boat a couple times recently and no pirates.
I road the boat for the first time today, and was attacked by the pirates. Very interesting. On a side note. I was also attacked by the Twinkling Treant. Been a wierd day for Final Fantasy.
