Went in with 2 war/nin, rng/nin, pld/war, blm/whm, whm/blm... just like a regular exp pt. Used 3 anima and the NM was pretty much intimidated the majority of the battle. We also got lucky that it didn't decide to spam it's AoE poison skill. Biggest tip I can give is bring anima. They're worth the time spent farming them, as they can be the difference between an easy victory and a sour defeat. It is possible without Anima (did it once a long time ago before we figured out the anima)... just pretty hard, and with a few deaths.

Me and a pt did this just the other day, not one of us died against the NM at the top.

PT Setup
SMN/Whm
SMN/Whm
Nin/War
Drg/War
Whm/Blm
Blm/Whm

The setup matters little as in what actual jobs you have, the ideal way to do it is a WHM, 2 tanks, and 3 DD. If you have that, you should be good.

Before ever doing this you should farm for Anima. Mainly Hysteroanima and Terroanima. You don't really need Psychoanima because all this does is stop it's physical attacks, which don't do much anyway. The thing you have to worry about with him is "Throat Stab". A WS that is stopped with Hysteroanima.

When you reach the spire, that's up to you, go in to the waiting room and heal up. Don't worry about protections as they fall off when you go in anyway. Before going in, try to set up a game plan for the fight, this is the one we used..

1. 1st Tank goes in and grabs hate.
2. 1st SMN uses Anima against NM
3. Both SMN summon pets (Make sure to find out the NMs element and get the opposing element. The element is told by the color of the lights.)
4. Both SMN use Astral Flow.
5. 2nd SMN uses both Anima.
6. 1st Tank (war) Uses Mighty Strikes.
7. Blm Uses 2hr.
8. Drg uses anima.
9. Around this time both smn will have Blood Pact back. So use Astral flows again.
10. Blm nuke it to death.

We didn't even use all our anima, or our final ASs. It was peice of cake.

Good luck everyone.

Did this with 5 other people from my LS...two of us almost died, but aha! I survived by 2 hp and our WHM was quick. And the melee and my nukes did their job.

We all brought 2-3 animas. We went by the order in which they fall in our inventory. We only got into the second round of throwing them.

Party setup (at least I recall we farmed like this -- except the whm who had his animas already -- and I'm fairly sure we took the same jobs in):
RDM/BLM
WHM/BLM
BLM/WHM (me)
PLD/WAR
PLD/WAR
RNG/NIN

We went in, buffed up, rested up, mages and plds slugged down yagudo drinks and ate foods (melon pies for rdm and blm, meat dishes for melee, I think whm had mushroom risotto)...went in

1st PLD threw the first anima and got hate...
I start pelting out frost and nukes, using elemental seal to stick frost
The RDM enfeebs and also nukes (I noticed)
WHM and PLDs keep themselves alive.

We keep throwing animas at it...I think we used about 8 of them...maybe more. Psycho first.

It got its special attack off a couple times when animas wore off...once leaving my blm with 2 HP. I came the closest to dying of any of us. When I got up against a wall and cast on it, it didn't manage to hurt me that badly again.

WHM 2hred...the rest of us didn't need to (one of the PLD may have though), by then it was almost dead (I was prepared to 2hr if it hadn't been though). WHM threw out his two last animas (he had 3 to begin) and we killed it (by this time I was on my third yagudo drink, as a blm you have to keep an eye on those wearing).

No one died and the nearest we came to a fatality (me) was my fault for not listening (it was my first promy).

Most likely she said, "Wanna help me do prommy's?"

Me "Ok"

So yes, the BST part shocked me. Anyway off we go. Totally fun and surprisingly easy. Don't know if anyone has taken BST along for this.

Wow! This was a really easy spire to get to. The end boss uses an AoE damage attack and one that will pretty much kill one person if it hits.

My pt setup was as follows
BST/WHM
SMN/WHM
BLM/WHM
WHM/BLM
WAR/NIN
WAR/NIN

Pretty easy fight until one person forgot anima and one of the Warriors got toasted. We got him down to a sliver but because everyone in the pt didn't bring an anima, he managed to hit us with three TP attacks and we wiped.

We're gonna try again in a couple of days but this should be a seriously easy fight for a prepared party. Animas, Yag Drinks, Au Laits are all pretty much a must if you want it to be easy. Pots and ethers help too but I never had to use mine.

Good luck to anyone that tries. This is way easier than Holla >.<

We ran,got surronded, paused for 10 min. than,we moved again, and than paused. happened about 5 times, and then we got arrgo. our war provoked, and heled the dam,but we were unable to seriousally damage the mob. so,after 5 min,our tanks died. than the Blm, and sam died. so i ran away, while our whm died, and i saw a memory stream, and it was active.so,i ran into it,and it lead to the 1st floor, right next to the zone. YOU DO NOT NEED AN ALLIANCE TO GET TO THE SPIRE!

I just went through the whole thing with just six party members and t went w/o a hitch....except when th JP ranger ran off away from the party caught agro and got killed, still i was kinda like, wth?! Anyway all you have to do is stay in a group and DO NOT FIGHT UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTLEY HAVE TO! We only fought one empty on the third level because we had to get to the MR, besides that it was just strays and MR. Once you get to the fourth level just run like hell, you can zone into the spire and your good.

Once we got to the Spire...things went south. I had no items having traded them to a ??? in La Theine that had asked me for everything in my bag, i proceded to trade it all the items i did not have equiped included all my shehei >.< i want to know what the hell that freakin thing does if it spawns something i swear i will kill it HARDCORE. Anyway i got a mithkebob and we all zoned it. I 2-houred and immediatly began to miss as always happens, i would suggest Sole Sushi if you can afford it to all Elvaans. Anyway SMN two houred whm two houred rng two houred apparently the SAM two houred but i dint see it. the blm i dont know if he did but we just didnt have ehough juice to kill the thing, plus the SMN only got off one astral flow. anyway yeah thats my story but you don't need an alliance just a single well setup pt.
btw mine was:
Whm/blm
Blm/whm
Smn/rdm (i dont know)
Sam/war
Rng/nin
War/nin (me)

so yeah it was fun and didnt take as long, nor was it as dificult as i thought, i was all geared up for hell but this was more just kinda purgatory.

Yeah, I did Prom-Dem with an alliance of 12. The boss is a BCNM, so it doesnt help there, and the group was bulky and hard to manage, but it allowed more people to get it done with more balanced parties... and the receptacles may as well have not even been there :) But when most of us died, it made it quite a chore for the WHM to raise us all.

completed this last night, set the server record on Diabolos of 7:12. not sure how that's a record, but whatever :P 4 of us had full anima, other 2 had a terro. pt makeup was as follows:

nahks SMN/WHM
fndragon SMN/WHM
loqiel RNG/NIN
teyal WHM/BLM
zeriel THF/NIN
charrill BRD/WHM

RNG pulled Delver, THF got behind it and SAd for hate, then THF and RNG kited it around while summons and the person not kiting did damage.
at around 70 percent both SMNs Astral Flow'd Ramuh; we started burning anima and stopped kiting at 50 percent. we only went through 3 sets of hystero/psycho, 2x Judgement Bolt from each SMN and an EES and it was dead. BRD kept Ballad up and was a nice boost for the mp chuckers.

in retrospect i wish we'd had another bonafide DD, such as a MNK for Hundred Fists, but when you have people from linkshell that need to complete the Proms, you take what you can get. ^^ overall we did well, weren't in trouble ever really. Delver seems weak to lightning.

Following on from the last post, my team set the record on Laksmi, I think the time was 3.57, but I could be wrong. Only beat the previous time by 5 seconds, but this did include the time standing there and finalising the strategy.

I've since done Holla as well, and got Tavnazia access, yay.

Only tips would be - remember your items! Key to sucess on the NM... Not so important on this one as on Holla, but you should try to have at least one anima for each party member. Mages should have Ethers and Yagudo drinks. Don't go without them. Ok, so you -can- do it without them, but it's alot harder, and really not worth it when you could take the time to prepare. Go in with some friends and farm recollections on the bottom level, then trade them for animas.

Gotta say, it's definately worth it for Tavnazia access and the next chapter.

Trillex - WAR/MNK
Gregory - SMN/BLM
Oblivion - SMN/WHM

The stradegy went as follows... WHM used a poison potion to prevent sleep. No buffs as this mob likes to steal them. WAR kited mob with voke. RNGs and SMNs wacked the hell out of it while keeping a safe distance from the mob. SMN gave a shout before blood pacts so that we could stop the kiting.

At 50% health, everyone 2 houred and we tossed 3 animas at it.

Well, until recently I had never attempted to do a Promyvion, it was on my 'to be done pile'. However last night the call went around my linkshell for an ENM fight, (not the mission boss), so I decided to take it up - I'd been 45 minutes or so looking for a party and just teleporting, so I thought it would be fun. Originally I intended to go as a WHM, but the party already had one so I switched to SMN.

Off we went, and it was a little confusing at first but we had an excellent party leader, so they kindly explained what would occur and how to deal with problems. This is a key requirement of the Promyvions - you must LISTEN to your party leader and STAY TOGETHER.

We decided to do Holla, so we entered, and had a few minutes waiting for people to return from being away just getting used to the place. To cut a long story short, we were doing fine until we were just outside the Spire... we picked up a double Weeper link, slept one, but then someone hit it... Memory of Fire went off a couple of times so we were looking bad HP-wise but I think we could have either run to the Spire (which our leader was shouting!) or won, but unfortunately our WHM used Benediction... we ran to the Spire but she was dead. So, we were a person down for the ENM fight, and we were a little worried.

Just to clarify, our setup was :

SMN/WHM
SMN/WHM
WHM/SMN
RNG/THF
BRD/WHM
PLD/WAR

Obviously for the last fight we were down a WHM/SMN. Upon entering, our party leader called Ice! so the BRD used the correct Threnody, SMNs called Shiva and the PLD provoked. First two Diamond Dusts did ~450 and 1014 (!!) damage each which was nice. The ENM used its sleepaga move though, which slept the PLD and we didn't realise... the RNG used his 2hour and promptly pulled hate and died because the PLD was asleep and was going to use his own 2 hour move. Other than that, we used our 2nd Flows and it was all over, quite easy for me as one of the SMNs.

At the end, we beat the record on Fairy, then a few hours later we fought the Mea ENM and beat the record there also. So all in all, a successful first couple of runs! ^^

Syldis

Edit: The PLD was asleep, not dead... >.<

I just completed this for the third time:

Party was:
war/nin (me)
war/thf
rng/nin
sam/war
whm/blm
rdm/blm

Any standard party configuration can beat this with proper preparation. You need to have anima, at least psycho and hystero. I also take a good au lait, an icarus wing, and 2 potions.

I psycho anima at about 75%. then continue animas after that.

Wars 2hr at 50%, do sturmwind, icarus wing, sturmwind again. Sam 2hrs then rng finishes it off with piercing arrow.

You can go as any job that you like, I have gone with drk, mnk, whatever. Just be prepared.

If you are on sylph, and you need help with these, just send me a tell. No job discrimination here. ^^

I go as a SMN/BLM.

The battle goes something like this:

1. Summon (whatever the boss is weak too)
2. Nuke. Just to do as much DMG as possible with your MP while you still have it.
After the Mob gets to 75% or i have used more then half my MP...
3. Yagudo Drink
4. Astral Flow Bloodpact ability
5. Ether
6. Re-cast dead Avatar
Repeat 4-6 as needed.

I rarely get off my 3rd Astral, and if i do, it kills it.

Parsers run me at more then 1500 dmg each fight, but unfortunatly, unlike RNG, I cant repeat this for another 2 hours.

On the way up, /whm is much better, there are more opertunities to cure. In the fight however, your job is to cause pain, and /blm does it best.

I'm also told (and perhaps its just a myth) that INT increases your bloodpact damage, and Astral Flow abilities are Bloodpacts. I Dont see a major increase when I use Astral Flow though, Its usually more then 450 DMG each.

Hope that helps anyone who's thinking of subbing BLM for their summoner, and anyone else who might wonder why we do it.

I've done all my Promvions now, but i still find them fun, send me a /tell on Gilgamesh if you want/need some help for this.

It is guides like this that cause more problems then good because now any idiot that sees this guide will think you need that party set up to do the promies. I did all 3 of the promies with a team of:
Pld/War Drg/War Whm/Blm Rng/??? Blm/Whm Blm/Whm
The most change was the Rng sub was different and in one we had a Smn/Whm instead of a Blm/whm. The Rng was more for finding the MR in the promies, and at that I think we only used our 2 hrs in the pt with the Smn otherwise I don't believe we use 2 hrs.

Paladins are more built to take damage and survive then we are, I went war/nin with a pld/war and we did fine. People need to stop being so obssessed over "Blink Tanking" Becuase without utesumi: ichi or ni we arnt worth crap and get tossed. so dont give me hell that paladins dont do crap in promyvion becuase that just isnt true.

The way to access these areas (once you have seen the cutscenes in Jeuno/Qufim and talked to everyone thus getting quests) is through the shattered telepoints at each Crag. Just thought I'd add this as a couple of people have asked.

One important thing you need to know about this promy mission. While an alliance can go in, only a party of 6 can fight the NM! So if you take an alliance you must make sure that all 3 parties are viable on their own because whether each wins or loses, they get dumped outside the krag & would have to make it back up all 4 levels to help any other alliance members do it again. Also a large alliance only means that more ppl will catch aggro and in the higher levels you do NOT want that. Even an alliance will be wiped out by aggro on the top floor. Best to just go with one stacked party & stick close together. Also all the empties have true sight so sneak invis & deoderize wont work. Good luck :-p

Hey !
for those of you guys who tryied them, you may have noticed that Chains of Promathia missions aren't really easy... and since you need to reach ppl with apropriate jobs and that HAVE the CoP expension........ and that are not complete loosers... then Organising a CoP raid can be peticularly painfull...

about 1 month ago, I created CoPalliance to make it more simple...

Anyone who is not a looser and have CoP( :P ) is welcome...

For now, we are trying to concentrate on getting as much ppl as possible to chapter2; 2-3 of us are ther yet...

We have over all, over 40 members, even if most of them are very rarelly putting the perl on; they put it in Mog-house and forget aobut it ><

We need as much active members as possible (less active ones are also welcome)

I've created a Forum for our LS (again, too much ppl are too lazy to even register or visit it... >< But me and some members actually do... I've even posted faqs on it...

I also give perl sack to every members since we need as much memgers as possible.

and btw; this is not meant to be a "primary linkshell"; only a secondary one that you equip when you want to do CoP raids... and stuff related to it...

If you are interrested to join, and you are on Diabolos server and have Expension pack Chains of Promathia, please contact:

I finished Holla and Mea yesterday with my LS, one try each. Take the Rare/Ex remnant's to the BLM in Ru'Lude Gardens in the Archduke's House. This is located behind the stairway to the palace. The house is right after Maat. Trade him the item plus 2,000 gil and he will create Anima's for you that you can use on the NM fight's. These are very usefull, we went in to the fight having 6 or 7 Anima's. The drop has increased much since the last update. I suggest you grab your party, go to the first floor of whichever Promyvion you are doing. Kill mobs and collect the Rare/Ex items, go have them Synthesized, and get up there and kill the NM. Good luck.

Well, I shouldn't say so much fought, I should say, defended some douchebag who ignored our wishes to leave it alone, and caught aggro from it. We had 12 people at the time, and it killed about 8 of us. This item did drop, but no one really cared cause all of our raisers were dead, so we had to give up. I do not know what it is used for, it also dropped indigo momemtospheres.

Honestly, you can bring any jobs to do this. All you need to have is anima. I have done it with drks, thfs, drg, mnk, and sam(they are awesome in here). You just need to have everyone farm for some anima.

On my mea run, we had pld, war, whm, rdm, rng, rng and almost had record time (6 minutes). No one got anywhere near red hp, and we used 5 animas. (a waste..total overkill) No 2 hours were needed and we just had the war and pld keep hate in the middle of the room.

If you are prepared, this is an easy battle. To get animas, you need to kill anything in the promyvons (any promy) and get a rare/ex item. They are called recollections of (diferent things) ....like fear, pain, etc..

You take this recollection to Ru'Lude gardens. There is a house in the back of the castle (by Maat) go in there. There will be an alchemist to your left as you enter. Trade him the recollection. He will say some stuff..then trade him the recollection and 2000 gil. Takes him about 2 game hours to make. You get a rare/ex item psychoanima, terroranima or hysteranima.

Boss fights arent bad during the first 50% of its life. Use these animas after that. You will be amazed at the results.

yep 100% right, they make the fights super easy. I would also like to say that making it to the top with 6 is very doable. My last party was BRD/RDM, WHM/BLM, WAR/MNK, DRG/THF, RNG/NIN MNK/WAR. we did the brd sleep the strays and the RNG killed the memorys. The third one is a little tough, to keep the BRD healed a bit easier we just pulled the close strays till it was about dead then pulled the rest as it died. so, use anima, and take your time.

Yea, everyone says ninja is good for Promyvion. However, I advise that a ninja tank may not be suitable for the boss. The boss has a powerful AOE with killer knockback (carousel). This will obliterate utsusemi, so make sure you have a backup tank.

Hi all just a quick post to let you know that an alliance is NOT needed for any of these missions at all and in most cases makes them much harder because you are worrying about 18 ppl getting throught the ports as opposed to 6 I have completed all the 30 cap prom missions and Holla x 2 with 1 PT each time some jobs are definately more suited to the BC than others but if you want to go as a single PT and avoid aggro from all the strays I am going to give you a very big tip and one very useful piece of info.
The tip is for a pt of 6 ppl attempting this alone is to have at least one SMN in the PT this is not purely bcs their 2 hour is godly in the BC its more practical than that.
The best thing i found that helped my PT more than anything was to have the SMN cast Ramuh just as the MR (Memory Receptacle) is dead/dying Ramuh for all those that havent played SMN has an AOE attack that timed right will claim every Stray at the MR and use Ramuh as a whipping boy letting your PT walk to freely port in saftey.
These missions can be a true drain on time and patience my other tip is now you know an alliance is NOT needed do this with friends your temper will not fray as much and your experience in these hell holes will be sweeter for it.
on the 4th floor any mob without some crazy link a semi decent PT can destroy without breaking a sweat or resting MP afterwards so careful treading is recommended as a 1 PT group.

A note to the wise I will not knock any jobs as being bad/stupid/waste of space ETC but is sheer Fact that some jobs really cant function to their best in the BCs so pick carefully and have fun.

Really hope this helps some of you guys/gals that are worried about ending up in an alliance that for the best part of 4-5 hours that does nothing but argue and get you killed.

I would love to read other peoples opinions on my post good or bad, but it does work folks just patience is key to winning this thing. Good luck I look forward to reading your replies.

as a samurai is possibly the second best bow user in the game with the possible exception to a war rng i think you could pull off a sam rng here as well as long as you have a lvl 30 sam with meditate and samve your 2 hour for the end fight and i stress this use the rng ws for your 2 hour aginst it.

I say this as a lvl 50 sam knowing what a 30 sam is capable of and also having just recently done the mea one with my 30 ranger / nin i think a sam would have been a great addition as long as they know ahead of time that they need a maxed out bow mine was already maxed out by the time I got my sam to 30 just from it's frequent use as a puller till 30 and i liked the damage it added between great katana swings

Also, get a Rare/EX Recollection from one of the zone's mobs and trade it +2k gil to the Alchemist in Ru'lude. The Rare/EX Anima he gives you will help with this fight a lot.

Excuse me, but does your strategy means certain jobs wasted thirty bucks on CoP? Now people trying to play the game for fun can't complete the promyvion missions. Invite the people that he doesn't want in his party, just make sure they can deal enough damage to be of any use.

If you've done all the ZM you've probably got multiple jobs at 30. :P

Some additions to your Holla boss strategy:

1. Have your whm cast a worthless bar-status, bar-element, and protect/shell I. That HP Drain attack you were referring to (Trinity Absorption) is actually a buff drain. He steals 3 buffs from you, and puts them on himself. If you have no buffs (or fewer than 3), he'll drain 300+ hp from you. A boss with Protect I on is better than your tank being dead, imo.

2. IMO Ranger > Summoner for this fight. Near the end of the fight, he starts spamming his AoE sleep/curse. Eagle Eye Shot does less damage than Astral Flow, but it's instant. We had 2 different pts, and in both pts, the summoners had their avatars slept in the middle of astral flow.

We had Thf, Pld, Rng, Blm, Whm, Smn, and we finished the fight in just over 5 minutes.

Hey, my party got a Recollection of Fear (Rare/EX) from one of the spider thingies, and someone says that you can give this to a guy in Ru'Lude Gardens to make some sort of Uber-empty killing anima. If this is true, that'd be freakin' nice against the boss.

Can anyone verify this for me? Thnx. ^^

Yes that's true, you give the person the item and 2k, and he gives you something to fight empty.
I'm not sure on details though.

If you find a Recollection of <type>, then you go to some guy in a blackish tunic in Ru'Lude Gardens (Archduke's House, NOT palace), talk to him, then trade him the recollection and 2k. Do not trade him 2 of the same type (lets say Fear gives you Psychoanima [may actually be that]; if you have a Psychoanima, don't trade in a Recollection of Fear, or you won't get it until your Anima is used, and you can't get a different one). These are both Rare/Ex. What you need to do on them is get to the Spire of <place> and touch the Web of Recollections. You get here by going through all four floors on promyvion, three having Memory Receptacles. Use the guide Missions>>>Promathia>>>The Mothercrystals to find out how to do this; anyway, once you enter the Burning Circle (web of recollections), you will see a boss. Begin fighting, then when you think the time is right, use an anima. This will cause it to have negative effects for the NM; one causes it to run around, giving blm or rng time to kill; one intimidates it (always); the other stops special attacks. Only ONE can be active at a time, and they all last about twenty seconds.

I went though this dungeon and killed the BC at the top ealier today.

The walk up is the same as all the other zones similar. The BC fight however was a real pain.

The NM is a pretty stright forward fight until he hits about 40% HP. Then he just starts spamming some annoying AOE that does 150-300 dmg to anyone in range.

We tried the fight 3 times in total.
The first two tries we had a few scattered 2hr, and we had the NM to within 10% when we died.

The last time, we had all 2h, got the NM to about 15%, and he AOE killed all 3 melee at once.
The remaining 3 mages kited him around in a big circle while an Avatar was hitting it. Was funny to watch.

We had:
rng, rng, pld, whm, smn, rdm

Anway, you hey a key item after the fight, a cool cutscene and a pat on the back. Off to do Holla now.

There's a headpiece at like level 25 or 28 which adds an effect called "Empty Killer"

I would think that would make this alot easier. I havent isntalled COP yet, how long does the installation on PS2 take approximately?

Well, I can't exactly tell you how long it took CoP to install for me (PS2), but I can tell you that shade really doesn't trigger the effect much; even with full! But it couldn't hurt as a tank, I'm thinking of selling the pieces i have left (harness, legs, tiara), being a monk.

First of all, lemme straighten this up. The Promyvion areas aren't inside the crag as many people believe them to be - you need to pay attention to the story. >< The Promyvion places are actually some sort of Alternate Reality that you get sucked into and need to have your memory erased once you decide to get the hell out of there.

The Empty are some sort of mob that, in my theory, are that world's equivalent of mobs, people, Et cetera. Either that or they are stray memories that have taken an actual form.

Now, what exactly IS Promyvion? Well, like many say, it's like a mini-dynamis....only in this case you're stuck at level 30. I fought various mobs here as my level 30 WAR solo, but not for long. It was just my luck that a party came along to help me out. As a 30WAR/15MNK, I can survive against an [easy prey] Wanderer with low ev/def with 1/2 HP at the end. That, my dear dear friends, is NOT easy prey. Don't go in here unless you intend to bring along a party/alliance.

To get here, first install [Chains of Promathia], register it to your content IDs, then head to Lower Delfkutt's Tower.(Now, what would happen if a Quifm N00b with the expansion walked in there with his EXP party and got THIS cutscene? I can see it now....) You'll get a kickass cutscene. Wow. Then, head to upper jeuno. 'nother cutscene. After that, talk to the Elvaan guy in the infirmary. Yet another cutscene; this one lands you with an amulet. After that, go to the Guard Post in the Archduke's house and talk to the guard(s) there. Now, all you have to do is go to the respective crag, examine the hunk of what used to be the telepoint, then go to the large apparatus, and viola. There you have it; you now have access to Vana'diel's version of hell.

Speaking of Hell, I think that's what the place is supposed to be in the game. No, seriously, all plot-related and stuff. But I'm not that far into the game, so I still don't know much.

Hope this helps. ^^

Promyvion places are 'darkness'
They are nothing, but they are here.
I would say an alternative reality but it isn't quite that.
The Darkness (Promyvions) are growing inside of the crags and crag-like places (Delkfutt (spelling?) Tower)
I haven't done much plot wise but it seems that leaders of Jeuno knew about this all along, and had people working to keep it contained. You can tell this by the first cutscene in Lower Delkfutt Tower.
So it's a not really an alternative reality but more of a darkness that is eating away at the land, spreading farther and farther. (go into one of the crags and you can see a cutscene of this when you enter one)

EDIT:
I guess I should add on this a little, I read it again and need to clear some things up...
The darkness in the crag-like buildings/crags are turning everything into the Promyvions... By engulfing it, and everything goes to the Promyvions... Like a black hole that expands instead of sucking everything in.

I disagree... my interpretation of the plot line is that the leaders CAUSED this somehow, accidentally, but through purposed meddling with something they should not have been doing. It was not their intent, IMO to create the Empty

In order to get in, you must first;
1) have the CoP exp pack installed, and;
2) have recieved Inside the Arks or Beneath the Arks or something quest that you receive in Rulude Gardens
You may then enter and you are all restricted to lvl 30 as it says (i thought they were going to implement something like this when they brought in the german, noct, and seer gear) and you ARE in the emptiness. During a frap I watched a friend of mine fight a few wanderers and weepers. I'll have to get him to send the frap again or I'll make one myself. But I've never been to the top...gotta get there.

Last night I went in with a 3 party alliance.. Was that ever so hell..By the time we got to the 3rd floor some of the team members were gone. We sorta teamed up with another JP alliance up to the spire..We when got there we were left with my alliance (5 people on each team) And we went into the Burning circle..With only 5 people we got owned..But this can prolly be done with only 6 people..(WAR/NIN, RNG, RNG, RNG, WHM, WAR/NIN) You don't really need an alliance in this zone just making your way to the top is sorta hard with only 6 people..it TAKES time

Ok, me and a party got there by following a JP/NA party and helping out where we could. We got to the Spire, went into the fight. All I have to say is... have LOTS of ethers, potions, all sorts of things cause you are going to have to nuke this thing all the way to Kazham. RNG's might do nice in this fight too, just have to vokers, and some ranged attack people, and a whm. I logged out in the Spire, so if anyone wants to go down there, i'll be there. Once you complete the fight, you are automatically transported to Lufaise Meadows, in the Tavnazian Archepelageo(sp?)

I just went through the one in Mea me and a friend were following a Japanese party around. Hopefully once everyone gets the expansion in NA a party will be alot easier to get here. Once we got through the area we came to an area called Spire of Mea which led to a BCNM 30 fight with a mob called Delver. It's a 6 person fight. I would say get an alliance going to get to this area but once you get to the end just break up into groups of 6 or you can just have one party and tag along with another group/alliance and get to this area. You kill the Memory Recepticle's and where they were turns into a warp type portal. The last Memory recepticle was us having to go back and forth to two different portals to get the last portal to come up. Even though we did not get to finish it up cause there was only two of us, it was fun to be in an area where everyone was restricted to level 30.
