Easy subjob quest
# Dec 14 2003 at 9:12 PM Rating: Good
The best way to get the items for the subjob quest IN SELBINA which are the Magicked Skull, a Crab Apron, and a Damselfly Worm are to find friends from your guild and/or linkshell that are 20+ and mow down these mobs.

CRAB APRON: u may get this hunting with a regualr PT, which i did. They drop off snippers. They are pretty easy prey for a lvl 14-16 PT.

MAGICKED SKULL: Go with your 20+ PT and head to Mhaura. Go outside the town and head to Tahrong Canyon. Next go to the upper right corner by the crag and go to the Shakhami MAze. Ghouls are everywhere here! the drop em pretty quick. I got mine after my third kill.

DAMSELFLY WORM: Do this last if u can, the rarest of the items in my mind. Kill with ur 20+ PT for saftey but other PT's can take them too. Just kill damselfly's by the oasis or the enterance to selbina in Valkum Dunes.

hope this helps and if u cant find a 20+ PT, have fun waiting for a while :)

Also a japanesen person is more likely to help you on something than a american high lvl person(sad but true) so don't be afraid to ask them.

how is it more likely that a lower level japanese person would help more than a higher level american person?

This prices aren't always the same.. The Prices changes over a period of time.. The more fame you got in that area...the less the scroll cost.. So you got to be carefull. sometimes it is cheaper buying them at the AH. Also.. always try to buy Scrolls with the NPC. cause the AH's Scrolls always sell for higher prices when the NPC sells them low.. Windurst is the best place to buy scrolls.. when it is on Ranking 1. on the Region Map.

Exiled in Selbina

As a Level 12 BLM I found some great parties from Valkrum Dunes - we made our way through the cave, and after this party disbanded I found another great one.

Here's the problem - from Bastok, its a one-way trip, and I cannot get back to Bastok by walking. No one seems to want to go back through the cave. As a level 15 BLM, I cant make the trip on my own.

Oh, and waiting around the cave is also not an advisable thing to do with all the gobs around.

So, at this point I might as well stay up here and try to party until I can do the sub job quest at level 18.

That said, if anyone wants to escort a nice BLM back to the east entrance of Valkrum, I'm willing to pay in gil or crystals.

You dont need to go back unless you want to do the missions. I was away from bastok at lvl 9. I havnt gone back even as lvl 18.

If you are having that much trouble going through the cave, then go North through Jugner Forest instead. If you stay on the road and avoid the gobs, orcs, and tigers, you can get to Batillia just fine, and crossing that area is cake. The first time I went to Jeuno was that way, (while doing the Davoi report as a level 3 White Mage). Once you've reached Jeuno, just set your homepoint there, and then head South through the Rolanberry Fields and Pashhow. Just stay on the the road, and watch out for quads, farmers, gobs, and malboros. If you are travelling at a very low level, (which can be useful, due to the fact that level 3 and under has no EXP loss as a result of death), the cave in Valkrum is one of the most dangerous places to go.

Selbina connects to La Theine and Konschtat through the Valkurm Dunes, making it available to Bastok and San d'Oria, the Quon continent's great cities. The ferry runs between it and Mhaura, which is Selbina's counterpart for Windurst.

Getting to Selbina is a test of your ability to avoid aggressive monsters if you're of a lower level, and if you're from Bastok, the narrow cave in Valkurm with aggressive Sand Bats makes it even more challenging.

Once here, however, Selbina acts as a convenient spot to set your Home Point to while hunting in the Dunes, as well as source of several Quests, including the ever-important Subjob quest. There are guild shops for the craftspeople, a general store for weapons and armor, and two spell vendors that specialize in mid-range Black and White magic.

Sand Bats Seem to run slow...

Was kind of funny, went like 2 steps into the cave... thought to myself.. hrmm this does not seem like a good idea... knuckled down and ran right through it. got hit once by a bat for 21 damage, the thing couldnt keep up with me running away... the zone isnt far from the cave either if i remeber correctly...

I made the journey from Bastok - San D'Oria at level 11 (Red Mage) Wanted to try to find the spell Bio.

How to you get here from Bastok?
RE: Transportation
# Nov 07 2003 at 1:11 PM Rating: Default
By walking. And you have one heck of a walk aahead of you. It's much closer to San d'Oria than Bastok.
RE: Transportation
# Nov 21 2003 at 5:02 PM Rating: Default
North Gustaberg -> Konschtat Highlands -> Valkurm Dunes -> Selbina.

It doesn't take all that long to walk through Konschtat. Valkurm will take a while if you are lower level and need to avoid everything.

Yes, but this has the side-effect of landing you in San D'oria and the poster wants to go to bastok.
RE: Transportation

Thing is....you can't enter bastok when entering N Gustaberg from Konschtat, you have to go into S Gustaberg. Thus, making the trip to/from Bastok a tad longer than San d'Oria (especially with the shortcut between the ravine and the mountains in La Theine)
