Description

Large amounts of mythril were extracted from these twisting caverns long before the discovery of the Palborough Mines. Complete with a railway system for mine carts, Gusgen was heavily mined for many years. However, as the veins of ore were depleted, the miners packed up and moved away. Now the mines remain abandoned.

Persistent miners can still find darksteel, gold and other valuable ores in the tunnels of Gusgen. However, they must often compete against a troupe of strangely named miners who rarely stop or sleep.

Ghosts often roam the dark tunnels of Gusgen. Some are peaceful, and quickly fade from sight. Others are deadly, and they'll take any chance to drag adventurers into the afterlife.

Gusgen freaks the living crap out of me. I do not like these mines at all. Not once have i gone there and made it out alive. When i was doing my sub job quest a high level was helping me get the skull, and then he logged on me before i even got that stupid skull. So he left me alone to die, which happened like 30 seconds later. Lucky for me a group of level 40's farming for keys just happened to have a skull, so they invited me, i casted a lot and got the skull =) and just to think. i have to go back there for my RSE and mission 3-2 for Bastok. Oh and did i mention eco-warrior? hahahahahaha....can someone plz explain to me how in the hell to complete that quest when the jellies (not nm's) can wipe out your entire alliance with it's aoe attack?

you dont have do DO 3-2 ... just trade crystals to go strait from 3-1 to 3-3 and trust me ... 3-3 is alot harder than gusgen ...

hmm. interesting. but I think i'll do 3-2 anyway in gusgen. I always like a good challenge, and never turn down an opportunity to put another NM notch on my belt. Blind Moby...here I come!!

Whats the deal with the cermet door? is that part of the eco quest? May be a noob question, I know, but I've never done the Bastok eco.

There's a strange apparatus behind it. (To find the apparatus, go through the first door on the right, then head to (J-6) and walk through the wall)

Trade this apparatus an infinity core and a yellow chip to get a surprise. This will cost 21000 gil at the very least and you may end up with a single earth cluster so use at your own risk.

Are you familiar with the strange apparatus?

mm nope, its for the Strange Apperatus, some people say it is a higher level synthesis machine, some say that a notorious monster comes out from it, but it has nothing to do with eco warrior im sure of it

I heard a rumor from a friend that theres an NPC in here that tells you of your "mining skill" can anyone confirm this?
RE: weird
# Jul 26 2004 at 3:05 PM Rating: Decent
It's a rumor. While there are certain items that can increase your "mining skill", it is never at any more than the set amount. It's not a hidden talent like chocobo digging supposedly is.

I absolutely love the little ghosts in Gusgen. I was there helping a friend with a Magicked Skull when I had ventured further into the first floor for the first time. Saw the ghost towards the back, heard the giggle... Ran in that room on the left-left of the map on the first floor (NM spawn room) and heard a noise. I loved that spooky stuff, kept looking for more, but at that time I didn't know about going straight and into the middle room of the first floor down them steps.

Later I found that middle room, but luckily I leared not to go past the doors cause everyone says there's mobs around level 50 in there.

Anyway, onto the point of this! There's a lot of ghost NMs in Gusgen, and does anyone know how they spawn? Random? Timer? Etc. I'm looking to risk my life against one of them =D

Oh and I must add that I LOVE the sirens that are heard occasionally in the mines, why? Because I'm a Silent Hill fan, and sirens are awesome after having played that game/series ^_^

from what I have been told, if you hear a siren, a NM has just spawned, or is about to spawn. Haven't gone very far into this mine yet cause my level is not high enough yet, so don't know for sure if this is true.

Oh god, I hated all that spooky stuff the first time I went in there looking for RSE. It was bad enough that I didn't have a map, any idea where I was going, nor was a high enough level to avoid all the mobs in there. Then I see these ghosts appearing and disappearing and giggles and sirens and all kinds of freaky stuff. Ended up dying after a Wight aggroed me while I was healing.

Went again today to mine, siren went off while I was exploring one of the off passages, Crushed Krause appears... I'm like... "Oooh NM, how strong can it be?" without remembering how useless a dagger is against a ghost, especially when you can't position yourself for a well placed Sneak Attack to start the battle. Died again...

In conclusion... I hate this place.

This is a post I wrote in the main forum, but I noticed there weren't any similar directions here, so I hope this is of some help to people.

The lever doors work on the system where when one is opened, the others are closed. There can only be one lever door open at a time.

If you're at the first set of doors. The western door and eastern doors are linked through a passageway. An easy way to get to this passageway (it goes through the 'main cavern', but you're above it and you can't get down or go up) is to head to one of the doors and then try to stick east/se or west/sw, depending on which you're coming from. You can't get to the center door from the west and east doors - unless you drop down a hole, which I'll talk about later. If you're at the center door and the center door is closed, then you have to go down into the 'main cavern' and to the second set of doors.

If you're at the second set of doors. These are a little easier as they're all linked. That means you can go back up to the center door of the first set of doors to check if it's open (if so then you're home free). If it's not, then you have to head to a western/sw room. Easiest way is to go through the west door, then stick westerly - you'll curve around and come sw eventually into a room. This room has a big hole in the middle. Drop down and you'll end up in the 'AF/Juggler' room, which is actually a part of the first set west/east accessible place. That means that you can head back up and around and try the first set of west/east doors again. If these are closed again (this is when you swear mightily), then you can drop down that hole I was talking about. This hole is located on the north side of the ne room and it's difficult to see, so run around and keep your eyes open. This will drop you to a spot behind the second set of doors again. So you can repeat the wonderfully fun process all over again. ;)

Ugh... I was stuck behind these doors on my way out of Gusgen after touching the ??? for the Teleport-Holla quest. I kept sneak up and eventually heard people fighting on the other side of the door. I called out to them and they were kind enough to pull the lever and let me out!

RE: aggro

Level 49 or 50.

At 47 the only thing I get aggro by are Feu Follets. Even though some Ghasts and Gallinippers are Easy Prey.
