Description

Beneath the grasslands of Sarutabaruta sprawls the catacombs of the Horutoto Ruins. Above ground, the entrances to these ancient tunnels are found within the giant, tree-like towers scattered across the savanna. The tunnels, rooms and caverns within are home to goblins, bats, beetles, skeletons and numerous other monsters.

Nobody really knows the purpose of the Horutoto Ruins, though a magical energy continues to emanate from their depths.

Points of Interest

  • The magical gizmo for the mission The Horutoto Ruins Experiment can be found by traveling through the cracked wall at H-9 on the first map.
  • Traveling through the cracked walls at G-8 or G-9 on the first map allow you to go deeper into the ruins.
  • The Cat Burglar's secret hideout is behind the Mahogany Door at G-8 on the second map.
  • You need a red mage, a white mage and a black mage to get passed the Three Mage Gate on the third map, unless you have a Portal Charm.
  • The Toraimarai Canal is accessed from H-6 on the fourth map.

Maps

The Horutoto Ruins Map is obtained from the quest Glyph Hanger.

Where are the Goblin Leechers?
# Feb 16 2009 at 7:41 AM Rating: Decent
It may be obvious by my asking this why I am looking for them, but where are the Goblin Leechers? I can't find any Goblins here except Thugs and Weavers...where are the higher level ones located in the ruins?

Yes, wendigo's are behind the 3 mage gate. You need to enter from Lily tower, hug the right wall and go through the "cracked wall." From there head to D-10 (it's the big room in the SW corner) and go through another door. Follow that to find the 3-mage gate. You'll either need someone with a pass or get a rdm, whm, and blm, to stand in the designated circles. Once past the gate, you need to go through the wall (it looks like a wall, but you can walk right through it). Voila... Wengigo's!

Hope that makes sense to you.

Is it possible to go back through the 3-mage gate? I have the portal so I can open it, but what if my friends didn't make it past in time?

I'm trying to get through the door and into the area that is called Beetle's Burrow but I've got a nice big door in the way! Its not the mahogany door with the 3 circels on the ground, but before that!
Anyone have any ideas?

Being from Windie of done alot of spelunking around the towers just as a curiosity. Since there are six towers Ill list them as Upper, Middle and Lower, since well thats the order :3

In the East Saru area Upper Tower, there are three NM spawns, Doppelganger Dio, Gog, and the Bomb King. There is also a Magical Gismo door located behind a false wall.

The Middle Tower is used in Windurst Mission 1-1. Behind a cracked wall you can go lower into tunnels and find the Mahagony door. Further down it leads to three mage gate, which is connected to Rank Three Missions and above. If you keep going straight you'll end up exiting the Middle Tower in the West Saru area. Also treasure chest spawn in the tunnels below the tower. I got a key from killing the weaker slimes once.

The Lower Tower is a square and is used for Windurst Mission 1-2.

In the West Saru area, the Northern tower opens up to a large room with lots of low level gobs and bats. To the left of the tower entrance, along the wall there is a cracked wall that leads further down. This tower area is pretty straight forward and youll end up running into a large cavern room with lots of Ghouls and Black Jellies. If you walk against the back wall youll find that part of it is fake and is actually another tunnel. Down this tunnel there is a cerment door and large machine which asks for a Password, an Infinity core, and an Elemental chip. Upon asking some higher level associates (whether true or not) I was told it was used to make random items.

The Middle tower is the exit from the other system.

The Lower tower is full of varying level cardians. They range from Two of, all the way to Ten of, as well as some higher level Weapon class monsters further in the back behind a few cracked walls. Further back is a Magical Gismo door used in another of the higher rank missions.

Hope this helps anyone running around these areas.

I was just wondering which of the towers I have to go in to get to the 3 mage gate. I've never really been here as a Bastokan SMN. And now I need my AF boots. :P
bomb king
# Jan 03 2005 at 5:17 PM Rating: Decent
ok me and a lvl 40 brd went in here to find bomb king yet could not find the room with him and the doppelganger's can some one tell me which tower i should search through to find or maybe some specific directions cause this is really starting to make me mad sry for long post :)
RE: bomb king
# Feb 01 2005 at 8:18 PM Rating: Decent
You can find the bomb king in the North Tower in E. Sartabarta. The bomb king and the doppleganger have a tendencey to spawn randomly, but I've had more luck on the left side of the tower.

By the way, this tower has a ton of Cardians in the Two and Three range, but no higher. If you manage to run across a Four of Swords, you're in the wrong tower. Widescan's handy too ;)

hey, i went in the tower right by the entrance to windy in east, so, how do i get up to the platform to go through the rest of the plase, u go in, and there is only 1 room, and a platform way up u cant get to, how do i get up there???
RE: please help me
# Jun 14 2004 at 3:14 PM Rating: Default
I believe that is actually in west Saruta. If you go into the under towers in East Saruta, the same ones you do the first mission in, and go past the Magic Gate of the 3 mages and keep going you will pop out here. I thought it was funny myself. So that is all it is, just an exit.
Few Things
# May 11 2004 at 2:17 PM Rating: Good
Just a few thigns I want to try to find out about and maybe clear up. I was in there searching for the test answers with a few linkshell members. First off once you get past the large room where the goblines are you go through a few bogarts to the magi gate. We opened this up, after making some remarks about how cool it was, and made it in. Through the hall was this giant, strange machine with at least two bogarts. There was also two corridors that lead to some strange walls that you walked right through, because they were fake apparently. Then you enter the Wendigo room. This is where the test answers, scroll of gravity, rusty dagger, and a few other things drop. They conned easy to me a level 34 rdm/17 blm. Well going through I believe on the left wall after you first enter is teh entrance to the Canal. There is another corridor with a teleport pad that takes you back to the magi gate. But what I am wondering about is the other gates. There was a gate for each of the elements. A gate of darkness, fire, water, earth, wind, lightning, ice, and light. But I couldn't get them to open because they were locked? I thought trading a crystal with them would activate something but no go. Anyone know what these are for? Sorry for the long post but I thought I'd give a few insights on what is going on in there as well as trying to figure out what the other gates are for.

Yeah I was wondering about that too.

I went to that place as a level 30 RDM/BLM and was soloing the wendigoes because they weren't that hard to deal with one on one.
Leaving was where I ran into my trouble though. The room with the teleporter had 3 Wendigoes in it and one was always facing the teleportation device so I went for the Canal......

....nuff said.

For those of you who don't know everything in there is like lvl 45+ and I died from a canal bat that hit me 3 times for 140 dmg. Was funny though.

East Sab. Eastern Tower
# Jan 23 2004 at 2:37 PM Rating: Default
I'm quite curious what's at the other end of the cave structure in the East Sab. Eastern-most Tower (The same tower as the Cat Burglar's) At only lvl 25, the goblins still aggro me, but at the end of the tunnel is that giant room spawling with Goblins. I really want to find out what's behind the door at the end. It's probably for a mission, but I'm still curious.

For those of you who prefer to explore yourself, don't read on. Otherwise, read on about my trip through here.

I was just exploring this area at level 32 (RDM) and went through here. The big room with the goblins leads to two places. Another cracked wall thing leads to a path that has the treasure chest (sometimes) and a sealed door that I could not open. Another exit from that room leads to the Tower in West Sarutabaruta that is right by the Windurst Waters exit (that has a drop off so you can't really enter from that side, only leave). The 3 Mage Gate is inside here, and beyond that gate (which I got in by following someone else when they opened it) are a bunch of Wendigos that were easy prey to me and an exit that leads to Toraimarai Canal (I didn't go in). All in all it's very interesting, and I encourage people to take the trip.

Same disclaimer as above. Don't read on if you don't want a SPOILER.

**************************************************

The far eastern tower in East Saruta (Cat Burglar's lair) connects to the tower in West Saruta that's right outside the northern gate (Odin, I believe) at Windurst Waters.

In the eastern tower in Saruta, go down to the caves where the cat burglar is. If you keep going west there is a large room wall to wall with level 20-something goblins (EM/DC/E to level 26 Rdm). At the end of this room is a door. Once you go through the door you are now in a tower in West Saruta. This is where the gate is that you need a Rdm, Blm, and Whm to open (Windurst Mission). If you go passed the gate, you will go up a ramp and come out on a ledge in the tower right outside the northern gate in Windurst Waters (this is the tower you come to to complete the quest for the Horutoto map).

Also, I believe that Torim Canal comes out somewhere in Windurst, but am not quite the level to test this out :/

I fought the blob in close proximity of A large door which droped a Horutoto chest key. To get to the location of the chest go to East Sartaburata J-7 to enter in the Inner Ruins. At G-8 of the ruins look for a cracked wall action it to open. Then head down to F-9 there you will find the chest.

For the people looking for the Mahogony Door go thru the cracked wall at G-8 on the second level of the ruins head to G-8
False wall and secret machine?!

The other day i was exploring and i stumbled through a false wall in one of the large caverns containing skellies. Beyond that was a cerment door that i could open that led to a room that reminded me of Delkfutt's Tower with some strange machine in it. I have no idea what it might be used for, probably some quest in the future. ON TO MY NEXT DISCOVERY! mwahaha

Her hideout is the Mahogany Door in the "Scoop" quest. Refer to that quest here on site for directions there.

The Mahogany Door is for one of the Rank 1 Windy missions, and for the "Making the Headlines" quest - NOT the "Scooped" quest. You need to go fishing on the boat and get a bronze box of a crab for the Scooped quest.

All the towers in west and east Sarutabaruta that lead to the Inner Ruins, are linked together. So when you say the chests only pop in the NW tower of E. Saru. they really pop in all the towers that lead to inner ruiners :)

also there are about 5 pop spots for chests, i can't confirm where they are i know if you go through the magic door with gob leechers behind it there a pop through wall to your left where the sealed door is, and also a pop straight ahead. i've also seen a chest in the rough tunnel part of inner ruins but i don't remember where it was.. hope this helps for you explorers. have fun.

Just to clear this up, Treasure Chests (in my experience) have ONLY been in the Horutoto Ruins in the Northwest part of West Sarutabaruta.
RE: Key Drop?

No, I've found a chest in the middle-eastern most tower in east sarutabaruta. The key dropped from a slime-type monster i think. Some gil was in the chest.
RE: Key Drop?

Search for treasure chests. They're like mining/harvesting/logging point, so if one hasn't respawned you may not realize there's one there.
mission 4
# Dec 03 2003 at 12:39 AM Rating: Default
im stuck doing mission 4 where the cat burglar gives you the monocle and you have to get her a stone from the maze. then i returned to her and she gave me a hideout key telling me to go to the inner ruins. but uh...i dont know where her hideout is. does anyone know?
RE: mission 4
# Dec 03 2003 at 4:15 AM Rating: Default
The Hideout should be the same one on mission 2 or 3 in the inner ruins at the mid west tower. If you have a map of the ruins its the very top left area there should be a tunnel that is not on the map. If you don't have a map got to the opistary(I think it's the library) and do the mission there. I'm at work now so I'm not exactly sure of the names.
