Description

The lush grasslands of West Sarutabaruta make for one of the more peaceful, relaxing settings of Vana'diel. New adventurers can often be found testing their mettle against crawlers, bees and yagudos. Harvesters can find a wealth of materials from the area's rich vegetation, and fishermen can dip their lines in streams or the sea. At night, campfires from roving bands of goblins and yagudos can be seen across the savanna.

Yet there's some mystery amid the calm and serenity of Sarutabaruta. Several tree-like towers stand scattered across the savanna; they can also be found in the frigid northlands on the flats of Beaucedine Glacier. Although the towers are considered to be dormant, they were once believed to be embued with magical energy -- though nobody knows what purpose they once served.

Points of Interest

  • The large tree atop Starfall Hillock yields a Starfall Tear for the quest To Catch A Falling Star.
  • The yagudo stronghold of Giddeus can be found on the west side of this zone at F-8.
  • The outpost for the Sarutabaruta region is located at H-6.
  • New players often solo here until at least level 10.

Maps

The Map of the Windurst Area, which includes West Sarutabaruta, can be obtained from the following merchants for about 200 gil.

Yes it is. Starfall Hillock on the map above, really just a big hill with a tree on the top, will have <t> Twinkle Tree used in quest by trading pugil scale to it in the middle of the night(dew will form on the tree) to get starfall tear. Tomtittat is also suppose to pop near it.

Cave?
# Jun 18 2004 at 1:55 AM Rating: Decent
I can't remember exactly where now, but somewhere in the G-9 to F-10 region, along the west cliff wall, is a cave opening. Since you can't actually get to it from W. Saruta, does anyone know if it's just for show or of it's an actual opening from elsewhere?
RE: Cave?
# Feb 25 2005 at 4:22 PM Rating: Decent
This cave is actually a one way exit from the outer ruins.

That cave is actually where you are dumped after successfully completing a BCNM in the Balga's Dais area.

Where is the entrence to Horutoto Ruins?
RE: Entrence...?
# Feb 25 2005 at 4:30 PM Rating: Decent
Entrances to the ruins. west sartahas 3 one is just northwest of the north gate to windurst (where ipupu is {need a map ipupu is the guy you will have to find}) this tower is really an exit point from an east sarta tower.the other two on the west side are southwest corner (card tower) and the northwest corner (gob tower). there is 3 on the east side as well the j-7 is in the east side center of the map (for rank 1-1 mission) south end (rank 1-2 mission)and north center(another card tower) the onescloser to windy are label as inner and the ones farter out are outer however the two areas are treated the same in reguards to searchs/shouts. the one that has the most trtaffic would be the east side at j-7 due to a number of quests and missions inside.

# Feb 18 2004 at 11:03 AM Rating: Decent
The entrances to the Horutoto Ruins are in those little white tree lookin things at the top, bottom and middle of the map. Just keep walking around the base until you see the entrance. I think there's a mog in there too strangely. :)
Goblin mail
# Jan 23 2004 at 1:44 AM Rating: Default
Does the goblin mail dropped off goblin thugs have any purpose?
RE: Goblin mail
# Feb 25 2005 at 2:48 PM Rating: Decent
goblin items can be synth usuing crystals. So can the Yag items. While in the early levels it is usualy beter to sell them in the auction house. Later on you may want to consider breaking them down for matterials to up your craft skills. Thats why they sell well. Its actaly cheeper than buying what they produce in some cases. Plus you get craft points for breaking them down.
RE: Goblin mail
# Jan 23 2004 at 3:47 AM Rating: Default

RE: spawn
# Jun 18 2004 at 2:49 PM Rating: Decent
You can go to the southern part of the West Sarutabarauta map to the souterhn tower, you'll find gobin fishers there, o yeah and btw, dont try to zone to that tower, i got aggored by a gob fisher and ran around in circles for 5 minutes until 3 other gob fishers aggroed me...
RE: spawn
# Jan 22 2004 at 1:20 PM Rating: Decent
Go to the River in East Sarutabaruta. There are usually lots of goblin fishers on the Zanbibi River. J-6 is a good area.

Twinking Treant?
# Dec 27 2003 at 7:57 AM Rating: Decent
Oops..misspelled the title of this post. Anyway, saw a mob called Twinkling Treant today while running around West Saru. Watched idly by as a
20 PAL/10 WAR tried to take it on. Needless to say he didn't scratch the thing before it wiped him. So, I guess my question is....does anyone have any info on this beast? It's the first time I've ever seen him.

Tom Tit Tat
# Nov 24 2003 at 9:33 PM Rating: Default
About what level is this guy? I was hunting at the outpost with my lvl 8 BLM and tried to con this guy and it said something like "Impossible to judge???" So of course I was curious and hit him, whack wack wack, he cracked me about 3 times for 20 and I was DEAD. So I know he's higher than 8th but that's about it. What level were you when you killed him?

PS I've been playing the game for about a week now and only seen him twice so he must be pretty rare.

Giant Wasp
Goblin Thug
Goblin Weaver
Goblin Digger
Goblin Fisher
Carrion Crow
Savanna Rarab
Baloon
Yagudo Initiate
Yagudo Scribe
Yagudo Acloyte
Crawler
Freshwater Pugil ( I think this is its name )
Mad Fox
Freshwater Crab ( I think thats the name. )

QUESTS:

Quest Items Dropped in West Saru:

1. Crawlers drop Crawler Calculus's you give to the lady at teh Dhalmel Farm in Windurst Woods. Reward is 600 gil. Do not give her silk, it sells far better elsewhere. Crawlers also drop Smooth Stones for Chamama in the "Rarab Tail" Building around the Holstery in Windurst Waters. She will say the first four arent correct, and the fifth for me was the correct one. Any you give her afterwards ( If they are the right type ) are 200 gil.

2. Savanna Rarabs can drop postcards, and other mail assortments. These go to Ambrosius at the North Auction House in Windurst Walls. The more you give him at a time, the more gil you are awarded.

3. Remi Shells from the Freshwater Crabs and Beehive Chips from the Killer Bee's ( Possibly bumblebee's have them too? ) go to a lady at the alchemist guild in Windurst Woods. 150 - 200 Gil reward.

4. Two Leaf Mandragora Buds and Bird Feather's go to a teacher in the Aurastery in Windurst Waters. 250 Gil reward. You must have both items, not one or the other.

5. Bumblebee's drop Rarab Tails which the (S)tar (O)nion (B)rigade wants you to deliver to them in thier first quest. Give it to the kid tarutaru on the topmost crate for a 1 Def, 3 MND badge. His 2nd quest requires you to deliver him 4 Wild Onions from Goblins for a L10 black mage spell "Blaze Spikes". The third quest requires you to go to Tahrongi Canyon though.

6. If you are lucky to find the rare spawn Bomb near the Mission 1 tower, and it drops some bomb ash, save it. That, along with two bone chips to Shanton in her manor in Windurst Walls gives you a Brass Rod. Bone chips come from skeletons, which can be found in West Sarubaruta, but you can find them elsewhere too.

Quests Involving West Saru:

1. The Sparkle Tree on Starfall Hillock... You need "a handful of pugil scales" from Giddeus fishies in Giddeus, and trade them to the "Sparkle Tree" at night time when it displays the obviously correct message about a frozen object on the ground. I cant remember the exact message, sorry. Take the Starfall Tear you aquire to the man on top of the Opistary in Port Windurst for a shield.

2. Map of Inner Horuto Ruins Quest starts at the Library in Windurst Waters, it's close to the gates. I cannot remember the name of it though, it's yet another Something-Stary building. It's easy to tell if you are in the right spot though, there are magical quills scribing away in the building. Talk to the first tarutaru on the left, he will ask you to visit Ipipu ( I believe ) and to hand her a note with symbols he cannot translate. Exit through the northern gate, and go inside the hollowed out tree-dungeon on your left. She's right inside... But not inside the dungeon itself. You'll recieve the map for your good deed.
