Description

The ice-covered Qufim Island sits directly north of the Grand Duchy of Jeuno. Traditional access to the island begins as a long tunnel that lies beneath the Sea of Shu'Meyo, beginning at Port Jeuno and opening up onto the frozen surface of Qufim, near the cliffs. Due to its being so close to Jeuno, adventurers often use this place to further hone their skills and prepare for dangerous battles by seeking out the Gigas and other monsters that make their homes here. However, the undead come out at night, often sending less experienced adventurers running to find safe haven until the light of day.

Points of Interest

  • "Worm Lake" at (H-7), a popular exp camp for quickly leveling from 19-22, since there are worms and crabs available. The only drawback are the three Bogies that spawn around the icy lake in the center.
  • Hieroglyphics for Dynamis - Qufim are found just inside the northeast tunnel from "Worm Lake", at (H-7)
  • Garrison can be done in this zone.
  • Dosetsu Tree and Trickster Kinetix can be found here.

Map

The Map of Qufim Island can be bought for 3,000 gil from Promurouve in Lower Jeuno or Rusese in Upper Jeuno.

The Swirling Vortex is a portal to Misareaux Coast. To use the portal, you have to complete the 3 Promvyion areas.

I don't know if it's been pointed out before but...

There is an alternative place to lvl from 19-23 or so. There is a canyon on the western wall of Sauromogue (clearly visible on map) full of beetles that give great xp with no AoE's to worry about. Also, you don't have to hide in a corner from 20:00 to 4:00, all you have to do is make sure you don't link because beetles are all that are in there.

The hardest part of this is actually convincing a party to go there. I was skeptical at first but the 270xp from a fight that wasn't terribly difficult changed my mind. Think outside the island ~_^

Ok I was running around in the tunnel on the way to Behemoth's Dominion and saw a "Swirling Vortex" it was green and targetable. I was afraid to hit enter on it or walk into it since God only knows what it does. Has anyone seen this thing or have any idea what it's for?

On my former character, I went to Qufim Island as a level 19 Black Mage and soloed them. I remember being cheap, and having a gimped sub, so I definitely didn't have as much MP as you but I would solo ITs and do ok. The key is to poison/dia them/nuke them, and run back out of range of a counter attack, rest if need be mid-fight. It took a good long while, but it is doable if you're patient and persevere.

-Escape does not work in Qufim thus it is not a dungeon.

-Chocobo Mazurka DOES work in Qufim Island thus it is not a dungeon.

-there are plenty of outdoor areas that are not dungeons that you just cant get chocobos too.

-and yes carby ruby activates here.

-also, there is a signet guy out there. Signet guys are never in dungoens.

If there was any way you could get TO this area with a chocobo, you could ride one here. Are you saying baucedine, xarcabard and so on are dungeons too because you can't ride chocobos there?

Weather effects DO stimulate the ruby if you zone in from another area than Port Jeuno or log on here. You can't get the weather effect for the ruby if you zone in from a town (same happens with rabao->altep).

What proves this IS an outdoor area is that Escape does not work and Chocobo mazurka does.

While I agree that Qufim is outdoors and not a dungeon, it is not true that the Ruby fails to activate if you zone from a town.

I would think that many people receive the "clear" weather effect upon zoning out from Windurst after receiving the quest. I know that I did on both my characters.

My bet for the Carbuncle Ruby is that it won't get the weather effect if you zone in from Jeuno Port, as the tunnel leading to the outdoors portion of the area is an underground area. I know, I tried and it didn't work coming into Qufim from there, even after the third consecutive try.

Yes you can. It just doesn't work when you zone from Lower Jeuno into Qufim. That's probably due to the fact that you're in a tunnel when you zone to Qufim, and the sky needs to be visible for the element to be collected.

If you logout and then log back in when you're out in the open areas, I've heard that you can get the weather element. Same thing if you Warp to the Home Point just outside of Delkfutt's Tower.

Not sure if it works entering Qufim from Delkfutt's Tower or Behemoth's Dominion though.

No, it doesn't work from Delkfutt because of that pesky little hallway it also has. I was in a rush at the time so I didn't realize I didn't get the weather until I got it while chocoing through Sauromongue.

Perhaps, FFXI doesn't follow the classifications that this site follows.

They are all probably individual area flags.

Can_Escape off
Elementals_Spawn on
Carbuncle_ruby_quest off
Chocobo off
Weather_Overhead on

FFXI doesn't have to limit themselves to 2 or 3 classifications of areas. They could make a dungeon where escape didn't work. Only allakhazam has to make the distinction based on how they sort, and what they choose to sort by and default to is entirely up to their discresion.
RE: Not Outdoors
# Nov 07 2004 at 12:12 AM Rating: Decent
also, Elementals have nothing to do with Dungeon/Outdoor.

the only real way to tell is the battle theme. Qufim is the outdoor theme, as was said below.

Not true...the only reason you can't ride a choco into Qufim is because there're no connecting zones where you're able to ride a choco. like Beaucideane (sp), you can get weather there, but you can't get there on a choco.

Double-Element Weather
# Aug 12 2004 at 11:33 AM Rating: Decent
I saw on here that somebody else has witnessed the double-light weather in Qufim. I've only seen that once... it was very pretty, and the Light Elementals are almost hypnotizing (I want one for a pet)... but I've got a question about double-element weather:

What's the purpose of double-element weather? I knew that the element of the day itself could intensify spells (Lightsday, for example, tends to boost Curing magic a bit, etc) but I did not know that weather could play a role. So rainy weather would, say, boost the damage dealt by a Water spell? And double-rainy weather would intensify Water spells even more? And double-rainy weather on a Watersday would boost Water spells by a great deal?

Or does double-element weather just indicate that there's gonna be a ton of Elementals out? Or even that the Elementals will be stronger than usual because their spells are enhanced? (I dunno much about Elementals... I'm not quiiite strong enough yet to just go around hunting them down for their clusters.)

yes, Weather effect does effect your magic spells
not sure about the day of element.

let said.. Light weather Effect is "ON" right now.
when you cast Cure, you will find out the extra healing points, manybe 10-40% extra more!!

and when it's Dark weather effect is "ON" your Cure spell will go down alot too!!
example: Cure III, normally it will give u somewhat heal 190 HP, but when the dark weather effect is on, u only got heal somewhat 100 HP or less....

From what a friend tells me, day elements do affect spells, ie: cure works well on lightsday while it works poorly on darksday

Did anyone else happen to witness the double Light element present today in Qufim? Not a big deal I suppose, EXCEPT that it happened at 23:55 Vana'diel time.

Anything special known to happen when there's a solar event at midnight? Or was this just some freak programming accident?

i think its related to the "northern lights"(i forget the real name, auroa borialis or something along those lines) that occasionally appears in qufim.
iv yet to see then, but my 48 pld buddy solos giants for gil and saw them about a week ago, didnt ask him what weather it was though.

it's a Light weather effect
which means... light elemental is pop-ing somewhere in that area!!

Double-light weather is also nice because, as with single-light weather, it improves the healing power of Cure.

Cure I with double-light weather on Lightday will heal for up to 42 rather than 30.

It's a great time to go after the undead. :-)
