You can't use it, I don't think. Weathers for the Summoner quest only count if it's outside - people have discovered that the hard way after camping out in Qufim and still not getting Lightning. You'd have to navigate the area and get to Beaucedine Glacier for ice.

I've looked and looked but I can't find a map for either the pass or the glacier beyond. Is it a quest item or what?
RE: Were to buy map?
# Feb 27 2006 at 1:55 AM Rating: Decent
This is indeed a quest item. The quest is in the Chateau d'Oraguille, "Her Majesty's Service". If you don't know the quest, you can find it here:

For SMN quest
# Nov 04 2004 at 11:20 AM Rating: Decent
I passed thru the pass with my 30 rdm so i had sneak and invis but I totally overestimated the challenge. I could have done it with any lvl with a handful of prisms and sneaks.

The tunnels after the one way door are just like the tunnels on the way to the door. There are plenty of quiet spots to reapply the items to get by. Just make sure you have a printout of the map of the pass and use <pos> and the compass to find where you are.

It took me about 4-5 mins to run through the pass, in which time I only needed to apply invis twice and sneak the once. Im not sure how it works for items but aslong as you de-equip armour so the sneakoils work the longest possible.

The most dangerous part of the whole trip was just after passing through the doorway into a rather busy spot for monsters. Just run to right into the corner and apply the goods.

I would probably recommend taking a low lvl char incase you die. I would try that if I had to do it again.

me and my friend decided to do sum adventuring in here (lvl 5!!!!!!!!!!!!) we enter it and find its suprisingly easy, sucky bats, we saw our first slime and made fun of it! then we saw a huge scorpion and ran out...we entered it and we decided to go past the big door of doom...we died!

The reason "nobody ever freaking tells you" is because it's not true. Invisible and Sneak do not cancel out. I can run around for several minutes with both on at the same time.

Urakh is right. That most assuredly is not true. Casting any other spell while under Invisible will cause Invisible to vanish, but Invisible/Sneak coexist fairly peacefully unless you Invisible first - something that's easily remedied by an extra cast of Invisible. I can walk all around Yuhtunga and Yhoator Jungles sneaked and invis'd, and not have to recast for three laps around them. Other times they wear off almost immediately.

Your enhancing skill may be low? I don't know. But they do work together.

How do the lower lvls (30s) get through here for SMN?

If its via prism and sneak, how many of these do you need to successfully make it through? Is it a fairly quick trip?

Thanks

Getting through here

I am a 36 rdm, and it is a pain in the ***!
I tried to get through about 4 times, with sneak/invisi when I was lvl 32-34 and kept dying at the second door, where there are 4 gobs who agro @ that level...
You have to drop the invisi to get the door open, and then 9 times out of 10 they agro...if you're lucky enough to get through that there are scorpions on the other side of the door, who will also agro, so you have to be quick and reapply invisi, and get through the door before it closes!!

All in all, the next part isn't so bad, although it has much higher level mobs - there are plenty of opportunities to get by them without agro, as there are less of them!

At level 36 I managed no probs, as I didnt get any agro - none of them up until the 2nd door agro'd at least - I used sneak/invisi which got me to almost the end, from there and once it dropped I got agro, but simply ran to the zone (and would you believe it - ice element was present - smn quest was complete!!)

PS, It is very handy to do the quest for the map before you go in if you don't know your way around, as there are a few dead ends later on...

I forgot to try this out when I was there ><

When you enter the pass from E. Ron, you have to go through a gate which is a "one-way" only gate. If this be the case, can I use my Escape spell (BLM) to wind up at the other end of the pass in Beaucadine Glacier? This would be a nifty trick to save time =).

Otherwise, does the Escape spell only zone you to the location from where you entered the dungeon (thus BLMs 29 and up and their party members being exempt from the pass' "one-way trip" rule)?

Or maybe Escape warps you to the nearest exit (as opposed to the one you entered from)? If so, can Escape be used when you are near the zone to Beaucedine Glacier?

thats all well and good but this idea spruung to mind when trying to figure out a method of getting through this place alive to get the last weather I need for SMN so anyone know what the so called "Preset escape point" is for this place?

I tried to find out on my own by using escape on myself but didn't realize how freakin slow it was to cast the spell cuz I had never needd to use it before so I got pwned :P but if it does spit you out closer to beaucedine then if I went with my 2 friends who need the same weather and they ran interference so I could cast it then problem solved

but somehow I don't think they would make it that easy lol

Escape has a preset exit from any escape-able area in the game regardless of when you entered, where you entered, proximity to other exits, etc.

For example, escaping from Quicksand Caves will always deposit you just outside the entrance to Korroloka Tunnel in Eastern Altepa and escaping from Korroloka will always deposit you in Zeruhn Mines.

How u get the map
# May 11 2004 at 10:57 AM Rating: Default
U get this quest from the guard in front of the mayor's house in Selbina. U have to go to Beadeaux and kill a NM calld De'Vyu Headhunter who drops a charm. Then go farther N-E till u find a "Jail Door". Trade the charm with the door and a cutscene will begin.
After the cutscene u will get a key item, return it to the guard at Selbina who will reward u with 3k gil and the Map for Ranguemont pass.

I took a peek into the pass to see what it looked like, when I saw a weather icon I hadn't seen before. Do the 2 blue orbs indicate frozen weather? The only 2 places I had heard of for that were Xarcabard and Beaucedine Glacier. But if I only have to leave E Ronfaure briefly to get it, then so much the better. Thanks.

No dungeon with weather can count towards activating your ruby with the corresponding color, Only outdoor areas work when aquiring the weather patterns, :)

That is because what you saw was not ice or blizzard weather, but gloom, which is darkness element weather. (Dark and Light are not required for the summoner quest).

I have a lvl 10 SMN

For some reason, the weather in this pass will not activate your ruby, you still have to go all the way to the glacier. I passed through here getting the SMN job, saw the ice, zoned out and back in, and no cutscene. I did get the cutscene at Beaucedine though ^^

I have the Northlands map... and every map that can be purchased... as well as the fei'yin map....

I have to say I am disapointed with you all for giving false info... if you don't know about it... don't post about it.

NatalieM and Baazl Scholar are THE ONLY ONES who speak the truth so far.

It is a Selbina Quest... it is called "Rescue" it takes you to Beadeaux not Davoi... as the anonymus person pointed out.

I have the quest currently but I can not tell you how much fame it takes... all I can say is I have ALOT of fame (180 bastok, 100 San'doria, and 16 Selbina quests done at the very least... not that you need that much... but it has to be under that)

Selbina fame is a combo of Sandoria and Bastok fame... and then has fames to add to it specifically. Rabao I believe uses the Selbina fame also.

The quest info is here :

Please do not listen to "northlands" or"Fei'yin" or "you buy it" posts... it's all lies... follow the link for the truth.

If you want more map quests...

The only one that I have no been able to complete is "Map of Bostaunieux Oubliette"... stupid pirates rarely spawn and when they did I could only kill about 3 and none of them gave me a sand charm.

so that's what the sand charm is for. i recently acquired this during a pirate attack on mhaura-selb boat about 2 weeks ago. i was only lvl 30 at the time of the attack but luckily there were other 50+'ers on board who needed help (crazy aggro). They were throwing out invites to everyone on the ship and luckily i noticed in time or they might've taken too much dmg and could've been brought to death. So with about 6 ppl all at least lvl 30 (it hink) we took out all the attackers and when i checked the treasuer list, there were about 4 sand charms. i lotted for one and got it. best thing i'd suggest is camping the boat alot, but of course that's probably what you are indeed doing and to that i say good luck. because luck is what got me the sand charm.

also thank you very much for bringing up the fact that this is a quest item.

That's pretty sad because from the three pirate fights I've been in, I've noticed something rather peculiar about these so-called "pirates". They don't aggro (or even link) all too much (the pirates should not have aggro'd on the 50-'s, they check as Too Weak at level 49). At level 49-50RDM I was able to solo them (a sprinkle of Phalanx was all I needed). A level 23 DRK was sorta helping me but that's about it. I got the Sand Charm after two of these Pirate raids (and it wasn't until I looked it up on this site that I found out it was for a quest). The Pirates are pathetically weak and were coming up as Too Weak on cons. The only thing I've seen on the ship that has ever come up above Too Weak was the Sea Horror, which killed me and 2 other 50+ players in under 10 seconds flat.
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 02 2004 at 4:04 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) this is the map included in the "northlands" map, quest is the one in the gardens of the Chataeu with Derfland Humus, check out that item for the quest.

This map comes from a quest in Selbina. I know because I finished this quest a few hours ago so Im obviously 100% sure of the reward and information. ^-^

Talk to the guard outside of the Mayor's house in Selbina. He will ask you to rescue two people from Davoi.
Head to Davoi and located the headhunter NM. (Also used in the mission to earn rank 5) Kill him for the charm he drops and then head NE past the gates. Head off the ledge and behind you should be a "jail door" trade the charm with the door to open it for a cutscene. You'll recieve a key item to take back to the guard in Selbina.

Upon returning to the guard you recieve 3000 gil and a map of Ranguemont Pass

The map of the Northlands quest you get from the Chateau only contains maps of Xarcabard and Beaucedine Glacier. Both map merchants I know of in San D'Oria do not have this map for sale.

I have no idea where else to get it.

You might try these ways:

1. There is a quest to get maps of the Northern area, which is what this pass leads to. Might include this map.

2. Might try the map seller by the East or West gate, near the big tree. I forget which is which. One guy sells the maps and the other woman gives a quest.
