Description

Mount Yuhtunga rises above the trees of Yhoator Jungle, but within the mighty volcano are numerous tunnels filled with goblins, bombs, dragons and more. The inner sanctum of this large mountain is known as Ifrit's Cauldron.

Adventurers can enter Ifrit's Cauldron from two places in Yhoator Jungle. Inside, adventurers can move through vents and caves, occasionally blocked by lava spouts and ledges. Paths circle around the fiery crater at the center of Mount Yuhtunga. Deep within the caves is a chamber holding a protocrystal said to house the mighty avatar of Ifrit.

So like... Bombs are weak to fire, duh... so, why the heck can Volcanic Bombs pass through Flame Spouts? Honestly SE, do some research on your own game XD

Coffer keys
# Nov 20 2005 at 10:53 AM Rating: Decent
I was in here eariler this morning trying to get the key to get my drg body. I do not know the drop rate for the coffers here, but I got my key on the 2nd mob we fought. Needless to say, everyone who went there for skill-ups was sorely dissappointed.

So, we decided to stay around because someone else needed a key. No more then 10 minutes later did we find another key. ;>.> Okay...slightly odd. I thought this was a very vexing drop.

As it turns out, it was a full moon on iceday. All 5 members of the pt got their keys (even the whm who already had the map!) in just around an hour. So were we lucky or what?!
For Those Who wonder...

Ok, Ifrits cauldron, my favorite place...
Maybe not to other people but to a BST 60+ it's exciting.(bst74 almost 75~!) On odin we used to have a gil seller named "Benediction" who would always mine here, smart man...smart(wo)man...(how would I know) I have to give him that.
But he was a lv. 25WHM/NIN12, tried to get a PT in kazham like that...sad. WHM33/NIN9 is good enough for mining here if you have it Reraise, Sneak, Invis.
Before you mine here:
1. make sure you have something to be reraised if you are going to be dedicated.
2. be ready to get crap over an hour or more
(I was lucky enough to just bring some picks and over like 2 mining points I got a orichlum ore(250k) and an adaman ore...(95k) USUALLY you will at least get 1 adaman over an hour.(unless you get stupid colored rocks! %$#%! them all.)
(Usually they are rated about the same rarity.)
3. It's all about luck, or something else unknown.(maybe moon phase...day?...something.) I've gone for hours on end with about everything, and it's just about luck: When preperation meets oppurtunity? Not in this game.
(die philosophers!)
4. If you are dedicated, make sure all you have in your inventory is all that is needed.
5. if you are a bst70+ its kinda cheap... charm a lizard...either kill it, or attack, pull it back, mine, log off, log on, recharm.`('-' 7)
I usally bring like 10(BUY IN UPPER JUENO 240G I think, in that shop closest to zone with the flowers, the other npc sells pickaxes) stacks of picks and I have like 2 spaces...and in the case where I got 2 ores first off I had to throw out pickaxes ><;
So make sure you have inventory lol... every time before you mine make sure, it could make the difference hehe.
For those who mine elsewhere, its safer, but taking dangers might just be heaven ... wait...well hell looks more like ifrits...but ...ya...
Hope this helps for people who though about mining.^.^
(I'd also do a background check on what aggros to what just so you know... instead of standing in the middle of death land trying to search it up on another computer)

Oh wait 200-400.

Still, those are some nice numbers... that's about 40k - 80k per hour. You sure you're not exaggerating? You're getting that out of Palborough Mines? If that's the case I need to seriously look into mining there (I'm on a different server, but the prices are probably similar).

my minnig in ic
# Oct 19 2005 at 10:45 AM Rating: Decent
Hi i have been a minner for a long time now and i started in gusgen i know all the mine spots there from walk hours on end looking for them i then moved on to pal mines and did the same.Since mine is my main source of income i take my time walking around looking for good sopts.I have tryed ic twice now first time i died second time i lived but no mine points. The reason i am sharing this with you is it was the same for the other mines when i started them no mine points and running around for hours marking them when i found them. Now i can make 200-400k in 5 hours of minnning so i am going back to ic and stick to it.I would say ic is for serious minners or at least those who have time patients and the rest is luck.I am on lakshmi server and if you see me around as for help i will be glad to.And good luck to new and master minners

I just don't find mining here appealing or efficient. Maybe when I gain some more levels?

For now I'll stick to the Goobbues in Sanctuary of Zi'Tah and havesting in Giddeus.

i mined in ifrits cauldron as my 28 whm, a mined for 3 hours straight with no other miners in the area, and all i got was 4 iron sands and 2 iron ores and 1 flint stone, so i would say that you sometimes have to depend on luck... also, you could bring a reraise earring alog incase you die.
Mining

Very safe to mine here as RDM/BLM since you can Chainspell a Warp if you grab aggro. Went to mine there the first time the other day, equipped with Field gear for body and hands. I went through 15 Pickaxes and got one Adaman Ore and enough Iron Ores, Iron Sands and whatnot to pay for the trip and the Pickaxes used.
bad luck
# Sep 10 2005 at 12:04 PM Rating: Decent
I just can't figure what I'm doing wrong here. I wanted to try out if mining in IC was worth the time & danger and headed there as 71 WHM. Handling invisible and sneak was no problem at all, and i didn't get aggro for like 3 hours. within this time I ran around in all accessible areas from the eastern entrance. There are like 8 or more mining spots. At the beginning, a lot of them were up and some repopped a few times. out of 28 digs within this time i got:

-2 iron sands
-2 iron ores
-5 sulfurs
-1 stack bomb ashes
the rest failed or earned flint stones.

Pickaxes broke: on 23 out of 28 tries.
of course WITH full field gear equipped.

After this 3 I, already deadly frustrated, wanted to move over to the other entrance area, since no spots respawned anymore on my side but on the way out i managed to pull a bomb from miles away when recasting invisible. I warped out with 63 HP left and trashed my mining gear when back in jeuno.

So I'm wondering what was the matter there. Would I have to go deeper inside, does everyone but me only mine inside the ohter entrance anyway because there's where you get the rare ores (I don't believe so) or was it just real bad luck?

In any case IC is not worth the while at all as I learned for me. Wish you good luck guys.
Rate of gil per hour?

Could someone tell me what the gil rate per hour would be if you really knew what you were doing here? I know it will fluctuate across servers, but from the descriptions I'm seeing here, I wonder if people are getting tunnel vision (no pun intended) for the orichalcum and adaman and not really adding up how much gil/hr on *average* (across all farming sessions) is being made. I mean...yeah you score a couple of orichalcums over the course of several trips there if lucky. But is the payoff worth it when compared to how much total time was spent mining? No offense to the experienced miners, I just want to know before I venture out there someday.

I'm just trying to compare this to something like harvesting/crafting where some simple & cheap recipes will net you 100-110k for a 12/stack. On average, just harvesting and crafting for a night in Giddeus (4-5 hours) will net me about 150-200k in thread and drops. That's almost 100% guaranteed.

Is the gil/hr rate substantially higher mining here? In total of maybe... 6 hours of farming, what would the average payoff be on your server? And I mean average , not another anecdote about 'that one time I went there and mined 450k worth of ores in one session.' Those are cool stories, but I'm assuming they don't repesent most of the mining experiences in this place.

Hey, I was wondering about the mining at Ifrit's Cauldron. I have been mining here about 4 times now and only have gotten 2 adaman ores out of 2 stacks of pickaxes. I have the body, hands and feet gear. I was wondering why i havent been getting any of the oreachium or whatever they are called ores. I have heard there is a skill to mining and that you can lvl your pickaxe, is this true? If it is then when should i go to ifrits cauldron to mine? if anyone has some info plz send a reply
mining is fun, but also...
# Aug 12 2005 at 7:59 AM Rating: Excellent
I couldn't help but noticed that most of the posts here are with relation to mining, and naturally they would be. The frits is the best mining spot in game; granted you have the guts/lack of sanity to mine in an active volcano filled with ridiculously powerful bombs, scorpions, gobs raptors.. and the list goes on and on. These are the things we evade with our sneaks and invis in order to make our millions. Now I'll ask you, have you ever once considered soloing some of these said mobs? and no I'm not asking you beastmasters this because I see you here doing it every day :P

I've always come here to mine, only about a week ago I decided to start fighting the mobs here also as rdm 69, fighting the EM - T volcanic Gases, Sulfur Scorpions and Raptors. I don't know what other jobs are capable of this, if any but I'll let you know now how I do this.

I start with all the refular buffs, Pro&Shell IV, Stoneskin, blink refresh. then pull my target with a ranged attack, I'll use sulfur scorpion as an example. when he gets close its Sleep II> paralyze, blind, slow. Then I use this macro..

/equip "Main" "Wind Staff" (for eva+10)
/ma "Water III" <t>
/wait 8
/ma "Sleep II" <t>

recast buffs dark staff heal wait until first increase in mp re-enfeeble, recast my buffs then use that said macro again. at a point when mp gets critically low and the mob was just put to sleep...

/ja "Convert" <me>
/wait 1
/ja "Divine seal" <me>
/wait 2
/ma "Cure IV" <me>

After one convert you can bring this "Tough" Or "Very Tough" down rather quickly by using the first macro I listed, get your 150-200+ exp and move on.

Sure this is no alternative to exp parties, and sure its very time consuming, but to me its also a lot of fun and I felt I should share it with you all ^^

Ok, to make things clear to anyone who wants to mine here. I started mining here 4 days ago, im only a lvl 62rdm. If you are smart you can mine here all the time. Anyways, yes bombs aggro to magic, no problem, there are many places and open spots to recast invis and sneak, you just need to pay attention to your surroundings when recasting or youll get nailed and I have a few times, I use elemental seal then sleep 2 and escape or chainspell and escape. As long as you have sneak and invis you can mine here, mining spots are semi rare in some places the deeper you go the better more mine points youll come across. Ive gotten 2 orchulium ores in this place couple darksteels and adaman ore. Orchulium ores are 270k in lakshmi server. All I can say is I wish I would have come here along time ago.

everyone has their own unique experience w/ ifrit but mine involved a lot of joy and pain. I went there as a lvl 71 bst to try my luck at mining and I sure did have it.

Pretty much I charmed monkeys and bats to distract the bombs while I mined. I brought 3 stacks of picks, used only 1 stack and I got 2 orichalcum 200k each , 1 adaman 80k, 2 stacks of bomb ash about 10k each, and sold a damp hakutaku eye I got for 100k.

I was going to try my hand at tarasque but the bombs there were vt to me, and the bats to charm aggro and link and gave me a hard time charming. So between bats and bombs I got killed... and on more than 1 occasion too.

If you are going to mine, I seriously recommend getting the map. Also, minepoint maps won;t help much because the minepoints are spread out evenly throughout ifrit except with very few on the safe point. (imagine how much adaman and orichalcum ore would drop in price if there were a lot of minepoints on the easy side of ifrit) So to be able to get mine points expect to be travelling in places lvl 75's can be chewn up. If you are impatient and can avoid bomb aggro bring ice crystals to trade w/ flame spouts so you don;t have to wait.

maybe it would be best to go in here with a lvl 34 WHM? since u can use reraise after u die and the mobs go away? 34 is for buffer not to lose it lol
RE: maybe?

I wouldnt.. cos If you cast raise (wich is magic) that bomb gona come right back to you.. if not its hard to say if it will be save to cast raise.

you cast rereaise before you go in, or in a safe spot w/o bombs then when you die, you can rise, but its risky cause when you get up, the bomb might agro again, and you need 34 for warp, if you delvl your s.o.l. **** out of luck... but oh well, lvl 34 death isnt that bad so dont worry bout it

Hmm, things aren't going too well for me over on Bismarck. The level 70+ BSTs have the place staked out most of time. I've spent a good 5 hours there and only gotten 2 sulfurs and 2 iron ash as well as 5 deaths. I'm starting to think the BSTs must be bringing their pickaxes along with them. That's the only way I can explain never being able to find a mining point. Been searching for 2 hours for a point and as of yet, nothing. No mining point = no mining = no adaman = no gil. :(

I just finished my first trip here. For prep, I did nothing but take my 32WHM and grab some Prism Powders... only ever used 2, so they're a good safety investment.

Did some running around Yhoater Jungle, trying to find a proper entrance to the Cauldron... the first one I tried wasn't very fruitful, but the second one (Eastern of the two in Yhoater) was better. It led me to a a circle of passages, which is where I spent my time looking for points. (Is there a better place? I'd love to know if there is.) Found 4 Mining Points in about an hour and a half before I walked by a Dodomeki after Sneak just wore off (Won't make that mistake again), no good ores prised from any of them. Some Iron Ores, Iron Sand and sulfur, thats it. But it was fun, anyway. I plan on going back tommorow. :P

My suggestion to first timers here; just go! Run around, start forming a mental map of what areas connect to where. Oh, and this (click here) site, graciously mentioned earlier, is a nice starting point for finding places to pick at rocks with those Pickaxes.

Good luck to all fellow miners!

try setting HP in kazam when mining in IC.
it cuts the run back shorter.

Gold Ore is not a possible mining yield in Ifrit's Cauldron, perhaps you mean Darksteel, but Gold is impossible.

I went there this afternoon with my whm25/smn(12)
I found few minning point like 3 or 4, that was cool, but now i don't find them anymore.

I tried to look for a map with minning point but nothing.
That's the only bad thing of mine there.

I made my first trip here last night, and saw that a party was looking for the coffer for DRG AF... me being the helpful type, looked around for the chest spawns while looking around Ifrits Caukdron, I was wondering if the mining points were inside the tunnels, only hitting one with a flint stone as the payout wasnt what I was hoping for at first. For the aggro part, nothing aggroed me at all after a couple of Sneak/Invis castings.
