I'm at argus, and I see the iron door, and behind is just a "Chest" not a treasure chest or anything...anyone know what it does?

People say to solo here in the 17-20 BST range. My question is: why??? I soloed here to 18 from lv16... it's torture! It's infested with aggro and links, it's pure hell >_> Is there something I'm doing wrong?

When I first started playing FFXI upon the US release for PC, this is where I partied from level 9-16. It's THE best place, just fight maze makers and gobs and whatnot. It's much much better than Valkurm. It used to be very popular on Alexander, but after a while people started going to Valkurm instead. Now I hate leveling low levels because I have to go to Valkurm... I wish people would just start partying here again, it's amazing.

JP secrets are slowly coming out, yes exp here is sweet. better then dunes, after u get to 15-16 u can head to korralla tunnle, ( in bastok mines through zerhuns gate) , and get the same exp. little tricks of the trade. argus now drops the peacock amulet, RARE/EX. happy exping

This isn't, and never has been, a "JP secret". People, JP and NA alike, used to exp here all the time a year ago...only upon the release of EU did the parties here cease, most likely because the EU people always went straight for the easier-to-reach dunes (even though Maze is just a boat ride and short run away...but most people aren't willing to take the risk of dying on the run thru Bubu, so they miss out of this much, much easier zone. Oh well..), which in the end drove people to start to goto the more crowded area (Dunes) since they consider that the "normal" place to exp.

im on the boat to mhaura i was in the dunes but i was asked to party in the Maze of Shakhrami
i accepted because i wanted to see the area i have never been there but i never knew lvl 10 blms could go there well wish me luck my boats about to dock and then im off the the crag of mea to meet my pt

My experience .. at lvl 14 as BLM, got invite from some Japs.. nice ppl I would say...at Koroloka Tunnel, for 5>6 hrs. just killing worms,everyone lvled atleast 4x, i left the tunnel at lvl 19 blm.... woooot.

The maze is probably one of the best places for low level blackmages. You fight worms, so hate isn't much of an issue, if you get a couple blms and rngs, the xp will flow in though.

North East corner. I would just go the the eastern wall near crag and follow it north. there is a small cavelike entrance there and if your low level be warey of undead near the entrance.

The door is used for a quest in Windurst, the quest is called Heaven Cent and here is a link for you. You need to get Rusty Key for it and it drops of most of the mobs in the Maze. Hope this helps you out------------>

And being a 50 Drg you can complete this quest with ease it just takes time getting all the items for beginning to end of the quest.

"best" is the wrong word to use here, "most frequented" would be better. Everyone and their brother goes to the dunes like it's the greatest area of the game...and complains to no end about trains, lag and undead aggro.

Buburimbu Peninsula is comparable to Valkurm and hardly ever camped. Maze of Shakhrami is good from 11-14, if memory serves...I XPed there as an 11 PLD, off worms.

There are two NPCs that sell this map. I don't think there is any quest to get this map, I can't find it...

this is my favorite place ever...i dont know what others may say but this place is PARADICE.

but what really makes me wana cry is no1 is ever here to party. there are no level 10-15 people to level here with me. if ther are they are just solo anon JP's.

i havent ben here sice i leveld my sub(blm).

well im on the shiva surver and if ever wana level with me here then my name is wal.

P.S.- my ls got together and we all leveld snm together...lat me just say 4 carby killing team. (me and my other ls mate had garuda). we where level 10-11, and at the end of the night we where all level 15. hehe so much for that "alkword(sp) level 11-14 valk nightmare :)

uhm..thought i would add the minimum level is 9 o.o;; when i first started lvl 9 parties would stay there until about lvl 15 then go to dunes. sometimes left at lvl 13 though. however now on Midg. server no one goes to exp there anymore...why...i dont know but it's stupid....

I was a 32 monk and went with another 32 thief, a 31 warrior and 31 whm. Getting the eggs were easy, the goblins didn't aggro us but the scorpions, jellies, and some certain kind of the 3 bats monsters aggroed, but they were easy prey for us. Jellies were the only ones putting up a halfway decent fight.

About a week ago while me and my friends were hunting argus/leech king. me and 1 of my friends was in argus room while other was in leech king room. suddenly all we see is "OMG YOU GUYS I JUST WENT HROUGH A WALL COME SEE" so we went to go check it out, went through the wall and we ended up in sorta a craig looking thing, like being inside delkfuts tower, and there was this strange defice called "item replicator" that required a password for something. anyways im just curious on what it is so if anyone knows please tell me.

added bonus is the nin/war can serve as a blink tank against gobs if the need arises in an aggro and saved many a life. GREAT place for a rng to lvl and blm too ^^

oh, and i left the maze lvl 16 having started at lvl 12 in about 4 hours

i recomend going into shakrami from lvls 10-14 and then lvling in korrlokoka from 14-18 i did it till 20 tho and if u dont have sub job yet go to valk from 18-20
but this is just my opinion P.S in my humble opinion also valk is hell to lvl in to much aggro not to mention bubu it like valk lol ciao

The two easiest MOBs that drop the Shakhrami Keys are Abyss Worms and Caterchipillars. These tend to have the least annoying special attacks and defenses. As with all other worms, Mages can use the Nuke From Afar technique on them as needed.

Other MOBs that do drop Keys include Wights, Labyrinth Scorpions, Goblin Shaman, Pathfinders, Furriers and Smithies, and Protozoans. These tend to be much harder fights, however. A good rule of thumb for what drops keys is "Any MOB that can be Level 31 or higher". For a complete listing of Maze MOBs, click here. Though as I said before, the easiest fights, especially if you are below L40 or so, will be Abyss Worms and Caterchipillars.

The scorpions arent bad actually.
This is a very aggro-y place, even for me at lvl 36 i hate having to fight my way thru everything. being in a pt helps a lot

best place lvl 10-12 players can lvl in. u get 200-240 exp a fight and the worms dont deal out to much damge ether so the waiting time isnt that baad. Once u reach lvl 14 or so i suggest goining to the dunes for u get much more exp there.

There is a map merchant in Windurst Waters who will sell you a map to the Maze for 600g. Her name is Pehki Machumaht and she's set up shop in a tent just south of the Bomingo Round.

There are two NPCs that sell this map. I don't think there is any quest to get this map, I can't find it...

map vendor in windurst. i know of two one on the end of the dock in port windurst near the shops. and the other is a tent in windurst woods between the fountain and the east gate exit to the south.

I don't know about bats. When I went there to get my RSE key I killed Scorpions and Wights and I always got the key from Wights. Hope this helps

Is there any specific area that the wights drop better for the Key like in Giddeus or any wight will do? Finding the chest is the easy part but getting the key is an entirely diffrent matter!

The scorps in this place terrify me.

Actually, in all honesty, most of this entire place terrifies me.

In fact, since Windy 2-1 Mission requires a trip here, I didn't get Rank 3 til 30. =/

I'm such a baby, I made a 60 RDM from my LS who knew the maze well (since he was from Windy) escort me and show me they way. ; ;

However, I must admit, killing the gobbies in the first room from from Tahrongi entrance to help out random PTs of level 10s (was in maze for DRG quest) made me more confident about this place.... But I'm still not going in there unless I have to. =P

I use this link for all chest locations. It's a japanesse sight I believe but if you place your cursor over the links the name of the dungeon will be on the address of the link at the bottom left hand side of your window. Hope this helps

its up in the northeastern corner of tahrongi canyon, past a big pile of bones, you have to go all the way into that corner to see the little tunnel that leads in.

You can get the Wyvern egg at ANY mining point. They simply appear randomly in a few places.. so camping one point in the place can be boring, but if you lvl 30 or so its the only way to stay alive.. So just be patient...

I tried to solo here while raising my Blm (level 11) to sub to my Whm (Level 35, I'm a bit behind ;) Been subbing Summoner so far)
Honestly, the experience was terrible. I got about 400 exp in 10 minutes. Went to the Dunes, and got twice that much in 10 minutes.
I suggest going to the Dunes before the Maze any day. To get there from Windurst, go to Mhaura, the town in Buburimu. You can take a boat from there to Selbina for only 100 gil, which is in the Dunes.
