Description

This natural labyrinth was formed long ago, when water from the rivers above seeped through the crust and ate away at the rocks below. The fossils of great ancient beasts can often be found deep within this natural wonder.

hey guys, can you tell me how far in the mining site for the DRG egg is? Like how far in i have to go to get to is and if it is near a crap load of arggo mobs?

The spot to mine the Wyvern egg is actually very close to the entrance of the Maze. It's in the very big room directly north of the first room you come to when you enter the Maze (room roughly encompasses E6-H7 on the map) Since you will be in the 30's when doing this quest, there isn't a whole lot in this room that you will need to be too worried about. There are ALOT of goblins, however, and a few Ghoul huts in the room, so you still probably want to be careful.
You'll enter the room at the southwest corner, and you'll want to head east to the opposite side. Eventually, along the northern wall, you'll see an elevated "platform" with some bones on it. The ??? from which the egg is mined is in that set of bones. (beneath the skull, if I remember correctly) This spot, however, will likely have your biggest worry, monster-wise, as there is almost always a Maze Scorpion lurking on this "platform".
As a level 30 monk, this guy checked "Decent Challenge" to me, and he was still a pretty rough fight, so take care. When you have him cleared away, I would suggest immediately mining the egg and getting off of the "platform" to heal yourself, (assuming you are solo) as there is a pretty good chance he will respawn within the time it takes you to recouperate from the first fight.
If I had the exact coordinates of the spot, I would give them, but it is really easy to find, so you should be fine by following the directions I've given. If you are careful and patient, this part of the quest is a cinch to do, even if you are solo, as I was when I did it. Good luck to everyone striving to attain one of the best and most fun classes in the game, in my humble opinion!

I didn't find it on the platform. I found it in F-7. More specifically, I found it about one fifth of a block east of E/F and one half of a block south of 6/7.

rooms with no apparent use
# Feb 17 2004 at 2:50 AM Rating: Default
has anyone found a use for the hidden room behind the cerment door on the lowest part of the map (its in the room with the big shells, with 3 wight spawns, and alot of leaches close to the exit to bururimu peninsula) it looks like the inside of a craig, and has a ??? in it.

Also what is the room behind the iron door for? I found the rusty key and opened the door and there is a "treasure room" but you get no cutscene or items.

this room is a good room to get your carbuncle ruby for smn quest. i spent about 20 min in here with a high level smn looking for the ruby. we trained and killed the whole room like 5-6 times til a thf showed up. offered thf 2k for treasure hunting abilities, next fight had the ruby drop.

Honestly, I find melee characters to be nearly useless against the MMs, at least at lower levels. The damage they deal is rather bad compared to the damage they take, and it only gets in the WHM's way. I once constructed a memorable party of 3 BLM, 1 WHM, and 1 BRD, all levels 10-11. Every fight got us 200 exp, and sometimes 240, when we chained. The only death happened when a gobbie aggroed us. Otherwise, it was exp paradise.

Eco Warrior
# Feb 16 2004 at 12:41 PM Rating: Good
Thought I would bring this up, since it hasn't been posted here yet. The Maze is also the location that the Windurst Eco Warrior quest takes place.

For those who don't know. Each of the kingdoms (Bastok, Sand'oria, and Windurst) has its own version of this quest, and there doesn't seem to be any fame required to get the quest. The reward (for the Windurst version, not sure about Bastok or Sandy) is 5000 gil and a Page of the Dragon Chronicles. The Page gives your character a random amount of experience points between 500 - 1000 (I think. Someone else may want to confirm or correct this) when you use it on yourself like an item. The quest is acquired from an NPC in Timbre Timbers tavern in area F-7 of Windurst waters. I don't remember the name, just speak to all of the patrons in the room and you should get the quest from one of them.

For this quest it is highly recommended that you have an alliance of 3 full parties with a healer in each party. This sounds excessive, however, you will have a level 20 cap placed on you when you get to the Maze and speak to the NPC at the entrance. The monsters you will have to fight -for the quest itself, and those that lurk in the room the quest takes place- will be MUCH stronger than you with your level cap.

There are plenty of places online where you can find instructions on where to go and what to do to complete the quest, and it would take too much space here, so I woun't go into detail. Basically, you will get the level cap, go to a particular room in the maze (a very small room) with a Ghoul Hut that has a "???" to target inside of it. Don't examine (target + press ENTER) the "???" until you are ready to fight. Once examined, the "???" will spawn 3 Wyrm Flies. Once the flies are defeated, examine the "???" once more and you will receive a key item: Indigested Meat. If anyone dies, they can still come back and get the Meat, as long as the rest of the alliance suceeds in defeating the flies. Take the Meat back to the NPC in Windurst (just speak to him/her to automatically give it to him/her) to receive your reward.

I've heard this quest is repeatable, but I am not positive on this. Someone may want to confirm or deny that point.

Sorry for the long-winded post, but I hope it's helpful.

Yes, You get the money and the page. And yes, you can repeat this quest. You just have to talk to the person again before you go to the maze. It's the same for San D'oria and Bastok too.

im from bastok and came to windurst at lvl 10...i absolutely was owned at lvl 10 going into the maze with an alliance of about 12 people or so...that is only because of the goblins... if you are going to go in at low levels then only .. and ONLY fight mm's... and make sure u have blm's and whm's because warriors and such cant do sh*t.. after lvl 15 the maze should be really good at soloing.. i lvled my blm from 16-20 soloing mm's in the maze...

Soloing BLM

This is a very good place for BLM to level up. I solo'ed as a BLM from level 17 - 20 easily on Maze Makers - even at 20 they still give 72+exp per kill on the average with a high of 120's. They do link if the Maze Makers are close together. I recommend at 18 of getting a subjob of WHM for the occasional heal when the Maze Maker casts RASP on you (Damage Over Time spell) and just get WHM to level 5 (easily done in a few hours) to get barstonra to help against the Maze Makers Stone and Stonega Spells they cast on you.

MM'ss (maze makers are the best)...
that's because they dont move
to attack your magic casters
(but they do cast stone etc.)

Overall .. this is a great place for those magic casters to levl up in a party ... should get around like 100+ exp for each mazemaker in a party of five or six levl ten's
Kewl and very simple

Very good place for like lev10's to get exp
(near the entrance)
You could easily get to lev 15 and take on stuff at Bubu peninsula in the same party of lev 15's

i love this place. with a good group of people, who doesn't do stupid things like run off on their own and start attacking without the others, you'll level up fast!

i leveld up from 12-15 easy.. took some time, but it was fun and a lot faster than i've ever leveld up!

should def have a whm.. two would be nice to have, but def have a whm and a blm.

a ranger is nice to have, so that he/she can attack from far away.

MMs are your best friends here~ they give you up to 200xp.. i havne't had any more than that, but who knows?

most of the people in here seem to be between level 10-15.... stay away from combats and gobs.. they link... no fun. MMs are the best since they can't run after you.

No disrespect but Rangers dont just stand back and fire arrows. We are in the melee and use our daggers to build TP as well as hit the mob quickly, but yes a Ranger in any party is a plus with the damage our ranged attack can cause.

Map vendor is at the tent closest to the AH path in Bomingo round, Windurst Woods.
It is in the far top right corner of Tahrongi canyon, past the crag as you look at your map.
I've solo'd from lvl9 on Maze makers here as blm, avoid Goblins without a party before lvl 16+, avoid ghouls without18+ PT.

#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 19 2003 at 6:00 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) It is squishy so it will make a great pillow for naps! But if you want to have it installed above the neck and inside a circular bone casing then maybe it will help you make wise decisions while soloing =)
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 10 2003 at 8:48 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Who is the map vendor in Windurst? Just for knowledge it's K-5 of the Canyon. And does anyone know of anyway to "power level" a character?

Is it hard for someone trying to complete their dragoon quest as a lvl 30 warrior to go it alone?

RE: Dragoon Quest
# Jan 22 2004 at 1:32 PM Rating: Default
YOu can solo the DRG quest up to where you need to fight the dragon. Getting the egg in the Maze is east, just have to use a pickaxe on an excavation point in the first two rooms. You can solo the Mazemaker, and Goblins (which won't agro you anyway cause the Check as Weak at lvl 30) The only thing that might still agro are the ghouls, but they are easy enough to avoid.

The Hardest part of the Dragoon quest is all the Runnning back and forth between the Sandora Cathedral, and the Windurst area. (You have to start the quest in Sandora, Go to the Maze to get the egg, go back to sandora to get the next part of the quest, go to Meriphataud Mountains to bury the egg, go back to sandora, then go to geshba outpost to fight the Dragon and become a Dragoon)

I do Recomend a Party of atleast 4 LVL 30+ people to fight the dragon... It whiped me and friend off the map the first time we tried it with just the two of us.

Shakhrami maze map?
# Nov 19 2003 at 5:23 PM Rating: Default
And where do I buy a map to the maze? I'm lost everytime I go there, and can never find the exit. Does the map seller in Windurst sell a map to it? I've bought all the maps he's selling except for the 6000 gil castle map. Does the Shakhrami map come after that one?
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 15 2003 at 5:38 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) If you're a BLM. Be sure to come here at lvl 14 or even earlier if you're brave. Fighting Maze Makers will net you 200 exp at lvl 14 for sure for only around 5 minutes effort! Want to level once every 2-3 hours? This is your place :D

It's In the section J5 of the Tharongi Canyons. to get in the Maze you should be at least 12-15 but only in a group. I was a level 15 monk trying to solo and everything I can con'd tough which means it will be tough to survive. While I was there I saw an s'load of goblins and they just home in on you when you get too close to them. :)

Place for Windhustians to get good EXP at lower levels (10-18) the higher the level you are the less people you should have in your party, I personally trained my thief from 18-21 here solo and it was easy. Maze makers should be your only enemy here, if your taking on gobs your in he wrong area!

Where is the best area for maze makers then? I ran through here as a lvl 30 to complete the dragoon quest with my partner, and didn't see any areas where there weren't goblins to deal with. I find myself in need of leveling my BLM subjob, and maze makers would be perfect...
