Description

Currently unused by the Kingdom of San d'Oriah, this prison is accessible through the basement of the Chateau d'Oraguille. A few guards remain to patrol the halls and warn adventurers of the perils lurking in the shadows. The deepest levels of the oubliette can be reached only through a guarded trap door. Even the most talented and grizzled adventurers may find their demise here.

Sadly although we are all Mistified by it's wonder and secrecy, 1 fact remains. Bostaunieux Oubliette is the place where bodies go to dispose themselves. I know I met the same 2 slimes, and as they pimp slapped my lifeless corpse, I remember them fondly in my Nightmares!

I was running around Sandy and was looking for people for the call of the wildcat quest. I got a bit lost and thought that there was more people down in the dungeon, maybe a prisoner with a story or something. At any rate I figured I could get back up, never anything to aggro by a city zone I thought. Drop down(lvl 26ish WHM) and there is not 1 but 2 of those jellies in the area you drop into, as a matter of fact I fell ON one of them. He hit me for a weak hit(only 250), so I had about 30 life left, got about a step before the other 1 hit me for 500some.

Why are all the cell doors labled 'cell door' ...is there a quest that requires you to find the right door?

Good party combo for this place for me was level 48 PT of 48Nin/24War(x2), 48Thf/24Nin(me), 48Rdm/24Blm, 48Blm/24Whm, 48Brd/24Whm. We all leveled in about 1-1.5 hours, I was 1.2K into level when I went into here. All mobs are sound agressive. Mobs we pulled were Hounds and bats! The skillchain we were using was Blade: Rin >> Viper Bite. SaTa VB was doing between 600-678 Damage and our SC was hiting for around 300-350 damage.

lol, all the stories are the same... not even going to bother telling mine. For the love of god, Sneak BEFORE talking to the guy who lets you enter. I'm lvl 70, and one of the Aspics where you drop in is still EP to me.

Map is from a Mhaura quest that has you killing pirates on the ferry for a sand charm.

Everytime I try to finish this, an NM pirate spawns and smears the 75s over the deck and proceeds to eat the leftover low levels. Someone tried kiting Silverhook around the cabin until he got Freeze cast on him.

Tips for just exploring the area

- be a lvl 25 whm at least. (invis and sneak both to rest for more mp, as things aggro to healing)
- have sneak up before going in.
- divine seal Sneak whenever you can.
- do "The Sand Charm" quest in Mhaura for the map.
- there are several north/south hallways that are relitivly safe to resneak in.
- everything I saw in here aggroed to sound (sneak) so, keep it up at all times, obviously.
- taking screenshots is fun and all, but you won't see your sneak fading if you are taking screencaps ^.^

Other than that, this place isn't scary. Yes if you get aggro, you die. ^.^ Death is just part of the game.

Also in answer to a question, it comes out in West Ronfaure at (E-8). Long way from Sandy...

There is a ??? just outside, and I'd like to know what it's for. It reads :

"Something seems unatural about the outcropping."

Just curious. I didn't have anything to try trading to it at the time.
RE: Tips and a question

FYI Divine seal has no effect on Sneak spells (or Invis for that matter) nor does Elemental Seal. You can happily get around without either of these abilities as long as you remain sneaked at all times.
RE: Tips and a question
# Oct 24 2005 at 9:37 PM Rating: Decent
It is confirmed by several of the lvl 75 WHM in my ls, and myself, that Divine Seal INCREASES length of time Sneak or Invis lasts.

The thought Divine Seal decreases xp loss with cast with Raise, is false, however it 'might' slightly decrease the weakened time...

We've timed it repeatedly: there is ABSOLUTELY no difference in weakness time between Raise/Divine Seal and Raise w/o Divine Seal. I wish people would stop perpetuating these myths.
RE: Tips and a question
# Aug 29 2007 at 7:28 PM Rating: Decent
Aw, come on; "perpetuate these myths" after he said "might". Every piece of information in a body of information sufficient for conclusions to be drawn from, is insufficient on its own. The fact that someone draws conclusions from insufficient information is not the fault of people who supply that piece. Furthermore, it belittles their efforts to compile a useful body of information. If a poster says, 'might', their statement is obviously speculation, and suitable for testing; it makes no claims of proof.
As for implication that this poster failed in their responsibility to the game community, you make mention of 'repeated' tests, and none of -any- postings on the subject. None of us are crystal ball readers, capable of knowing instantly the results of your testing. You would have contributed far more by posting your data, than irrelevantly criticizing the speculation which is the inevitable result of the lack of such data.

It seems to be a random time. I've used both elemental seal and bare, have had both wear in under a minute, and had both last believe it was over 10 minutes. I haven't used elemental seal with sneak alot, but percentagewise, it does seem to have a better chance of staying on longer, but it doesn't seem guaranteed(used it on the way to unlock PUP and had an elemental seal sneak wear off right inbetween a group of bats and imps)
my story
# Feb 07 2005 at 1:23 AM Rating: Excellent
oh and here's my story:

I read all this and think about how dangerous it was but being my stupid self, i decide to go down there anyway to check it out. I was already scared out of my mind passing the drain guy, but i finally get the courage to open the sewer lid. As soon as i hit the ground a dark aspis does some 400 damage to me and i die instantly. What a nice day.

This exits out to West Ronfaure on a very slim ridge, Where you spawn a NM Orc for San d'Oria mission 7-1, Prestige of the Papsque. If you're not on this mission, It is completely pointless to go out here.

The other day i was trying to raise San D Oria fame to get drain scroll for my DRK. after trading 5 or 6 stacks of bat wings i went to Bostin...(ya know what i mean). well i figured i had enough fame.. WRONG! so i got realley PO'ed at the game and found the guy standing at the "Entrance of death". i dropped in and next thing i knew 3 bats and 2 jellys aggroed me. As a 32WAR/15MNK this is how it all went down. I start running. then im hity for 250. then 180 then like 275. Bam! im dead noone offers to help, and since i had to respawn back at my HP in rabao i fell to level 31 again.............................. (>.<) (T.T) (>.<)<^> to that dungeon of death
Big Mistake

I did somethign similar at lower level. Afterwards i started using it as a place to death-warp in sandy. I have been afraid to try it as lev 60 pal cause there's so much to lose in exp and all my experiences there have been short.
Site says the dark aspis is 55.. doesnt sound toooo bad ...

Quick question on this area. I'm a 62PLD ATM, and am curious whether I would be able to get to the Jelly Ring monster (Sewer Sludge?) without much trouble? Chances are I'll drag some random BLM to come with me, but I figure I'm gonna try and find my way through the area so I don't get lost when I'm goin for the NM.

Not to burst any bubbles, but i just partied here till 3 in the morning with a japanese party 50-51 the EXP is incredible... we partied at the stair base near the zone to West Ranfuare. that made it very easy to zone once we fought a haunt. Only downside to it is getting to the camp, it is a very long walk and many turns and sneak must absoulutly NOT run out or your dead. and their is a low Spawn rate for the Werebats that you fight.

I remember going in there as a level22 Warrior, and getting killed by the Dark Aspis. Then i recently went in there as a level 49 PLD and i thought i would be able to take out that Aspis to get some revenge from my prior attempt. But noooo. He was still IT to me and gave me a good whooping. But before he could, i made it down the hall some ways, where some bats joined on on the killing. I think i'm going back there when i hit level 65 to try to kill that thing. Cause right now i'm 0/2.... :(

I actually read in the Beastmaster Forum that this is a decent and safe place to XP if you camp yourself near the W. Ronfaure exit. I decided to check this place out with my RDM as usual and go in fully buffed and ready to hit my Chainspell + Warp macro just in case. I had to redo my Sneak, and that's when I got in trouble. Further in there are so many g*damn mobs bunched together that I was forced to sneak inbetween two sets of bats and hounds. I almost finished casting but a bat decided to patrol the place where I stood.

I thought "well, I'm close to zone and no one is here, I'll just run." After a couple seconds I realized my *** was grass if I did that, so I hit my macro. I died so fast I didn't see my HP fall to 0 before my Warp cast.

Am I a dumbass for planning on going back there later? ^^
I hate this place

I was bored one evening so I bought some silent oils and thought I'd scout out the area for the Sewer Syrup that I'll eventually need to kill for the Jelly Ring. I went in as a pld/thf so I could flee if I got into trouble. I'm not certain is the silent oil would stick if I put it on before dropping through the manhole so I decided to put it on as soon as I dropped down. So I drop down and land on a couple of the dark aspics and immediately get aggrod, no time to put on oil. So I immediately flee for the zone, and on my way I aggrod every single mob along the way so I hit invincible. Get bound by a haunt, uh oh, flee is almost gone. I get unbound and I'm still fleeing and I see the zone, I'm close! But no, I hit a trap door of some sort and fall in the basement and there are bloodsucker leeches everywhere. I die almost instantly after invincible wears off. So lesson learned...don't ever explore this place w/o a full party. 3k exp lost and no scout of the area.

Something to try, just for fun... Cast Escape while you're in here and you'll end up in a fun location. It kinda makes sense, but you'd think you'd end up in town or in the castle or something. Listed below if you don't wanna try yourself.

In the sewer, there are trap doors that open when you get close to them. Keep a close eye out. My LS was on the way to Sewer Syrup, our DRG fell down one of the trap doors. At the bottom, an extensive mini-river, filled to the brim with Bloodsucker leeches. They massacred him. 72 DRG slaughtered in literally a matter of second. Anyways, as I was saying, avoid the trap doors. They look similar to the Sewer Lid at the start of the dangerous part. Be afraid...
Yay! Adventure!

A friend and myself decided to drop down into the sewers while we were doing the Drain quest for him. However, being the extremely cautious person that I am, I recommended we change to our lvl 1 jobs (MNK and WHM) and then venture down into the sewer. So a quick trip back to our mog house and we were on our way.

We dropped down into the sewer, and came face to face with a slime. We both just stood there, frozen in our tracks, when suddenly, the slime jerked toward me! My friend, thinking he was in the clear, took off down the path, only to have the slime chase after him, and slaughter him in one hit. Now it was my turn it seemed, so I took this moment to gear up my courage and ran full speed past the slime, only to turn the corner to see a high level BST fighting a leech, completely blocking the narrow tunnel. One hit and I was on the floor and the slime was on his way. I can only wonder what the BST must have thought, seeing two lvl 1's dead in the sewer...

A good word of advice to anyone less curious than me, and a little smarter; Unless there is a purpose for you to drop into the sewer, don't do it, unless you want a quick trip back to your HP :P
