Hawkeyed Dnatbat Picture

An unparalleled archer who is said to have eyes of a hawk. They say he can shoot a human right between the eyes.

To pop this guy just kill the cursemakers around L-8, his spawn radius is fairly large so keep an eye out. He is very rarely camped and when I killed him I got the archer's knife 1/1, so he's well worth the effort!

Yeah the spawn point for this NM is wrong. He might spawn at L-9, but when he spawned for me he spawned @ L-8(the crossroads going to the L-9 pond).

His PH is the Cursemaker standing next to the pond.

Good Luck.
Hope this helps

I went to Davoi to gather some weapons for my BST and RNG, Archer's knife was obviouslly on that list. I went as a BRD68/WHM34.

Hawkeyed Dnatbat will spawn anywhere within grid L-8 or by the Wailing Springs (area circled for him on the map). The drop rate seems fairly high for Archer's knife, as I went 2/2 on it. Of course, it was a Full Moon (98%) the first time and Waning Gibbous (90%) the second time, which would contribute to the drop rate.

His placeholders are the 2 Orcish Cursemakers in the area I described above. There are also 2 Orcish Serjeants and 1 Orcish Fighter in the area as well, and 2 Wood Bats spawn by the Wailing Spring at nighttime. The 5 Orc mobs each have a respawn time of roughly 10 minutes and I didn't pay attention to the bats respawn time.

His spawn time is roughly 2 hours. My first claim on him was at 12:50am PST (I'd been killing the Orcs in the area for about 2 hours and 10 minutes by then) and my second claim was at 2:55am PST. (Inbetween that I had time to go claim Tigerbane Bakdak).

The fight was super easy, at least for my level. I just cast Army's Paeon V and IV on myself and hit away at him with my gimped dagger. His ranged attack missed me a lot (again probably because of my level) and Eagle Eye Shot hit me for about 170, but since I'd keep full health from regaining 15hp a tick that wasn't an issue. If this info helps, my Attack was 166 and my Defense was 207.

Happy hunting, and I hope my information was useful.

I was in Davoi hunting for a NM that wasn't even here. Much to my dismay when I learned it was in Beadeaux. But looking for something else to hunt I found Hawkeyed Dnatbat within my level range. With good stats I thought he would be good to go after but after hunting for 3 hours near the wailing pond, no Dnatbat. So going out to hunt more cursemakers I found him between the K-8 and L-8 quadrents. Easy kill easy knife for a 42Rdm/20Thf.
I thought you guys would want to know they've expanded his spawn range abit.
Finally I have something to sell other than eggs and skin. ^_^

Camped it with my WAR59

Took about an hour to pop, and it DID pop next to the pool. Maybe it's just random around there. Killed him in about... 30 seconds, Rampage took him from 70% to 0, he didn't even get to Eagle Eye Shot me. LOL.

Anyway, got the drop, 1/1 on him! :D b
Needed two knives for my COR which is currently 21 (I'm duoing with my friend's BLU with a PL to 40 cuz I can and yes it works without much death at all and it's faster than going through the jungles and the deserts)

So yea.
Archer's Knife FTW!

When he popped for me (1/1) he wasn't near the pond.
I found him just north of the pond in L-8. Maybe his spawn point moved to a broader area...

So, saw this nm and decided to camp him to get two archers for my rng.

I get to davoi after reading blackwidow's excellent guide^^ and head to the spot.

I killed the 5 orcs to be sure, and exactly 4:15 later he popped. 1 knife down...The 2nd not so easy.

Waited 1hr then came back and started killing the cursemakers 1st, then the rest just cuz i could.

Using blackwidow's guide i got every placeholder as soon as he popped... too bad it took 2hrs rl!

Inbetween ToD and his second pop it took 3 hrs. But he popped right on time (instead of ph) and got my second knife.

Yes, it was well worth the wait for my rng, but damn. He can take a long time to pop if he wants to.

The actual placeholders are the Cursemakers. You can disregard all the other orcs in the area, and just use the same strategy that I posted previously in regard to the ToDs. Also, the repop times for these orcs are roughly 4 hours and 15 mins game time. Repop for Hawkeyed is usually very close to every RL hour.

Just thought I'd give my experience on this guy to help out those that may want the knives for exp, or for saving up gil for other items. First, based on every time I've ever seen this NM pop and have claimed (over 20 times now), I've never seen him spawn in the area indicated by the red circle at L-9. However, I have seen him spawn in the valley area of L-9, the open area of K-8, and the valley area of L-8.
Spawn times and placeholders:
There are 5 potential placeholders for this NM. Any of them can be the placeholder. All of them spawn in the areas mentioned above. If there are 5 Orcs in these areas, then here is my strategy...
Kill the first Orc and note the ToD (this will be your first potential pop time for Hawkeyed). You then add 4 hours game time to this time (it's actually slightly longer, but 4 is safe and easy to add to the ToD), and this will be the next pop for that Orc. You then kill off the other four Orcs in the areas mentioned above, and note the ToD for the last Orc killed. You then add the standard 4 hour time to this ToD, and viola! you have your window of possible pop times for Hawkeyed. Example: first Orc is killed at 0452 gametime, this equals 0852 for the first potential pop. Last Orc ToD is 0600, which equals 1000 gametime for the last potential pop. So, your window of possible pop times for Hawkeyed in this scenario is between 0852 and 1000 gametime. If five more regular Orcs spawn, then Hawkeyed's timer was not up yet, and you continue to go about this strategy.
If you are looking to get a set of knives from him, then after killing him the initial time, check back in the area in another hour, because his pop times are between 1 and 1 1/2 hours from last ToD. Many times upon entering Davoi, I go straight to his area, kill all five Orcs, wait the 4 hours, and pop! there he is. Many ppl don't kill the appropriate placeholder for him, so he's usually ready to be spawned. I believe that because of the red circled area they show him spawning in on the map above, that people think the two Orcs in this area are his placeholders. While they "can" be his placeholders, more often that not, they aren't. While the 60k they go for on Asura server is not a lot of gil, it sure is for the 7 minutes I spend camping him. I don't know about your server, but on mine people rarely camp him, or just don't know how. Just thought I'd share this information to help out those who weren't clear about him. On a side note, he's not all that difficult for someone level 45 and higher. Even if you're level 40 with some solo experience and have a game plan, you should do fine with him. Have fun!

Edit: Of course the first time camping him after I posted this, Hawkeyed spawned right where the red circle indicates he will >.< Anyway for what it's worth, that's the first time in over 20 spawns :D

I was check out some NM to hunt for money, damn gilsellers making everything so expencive, so I figured I'll try him. This has to be the easiest of all the NM I've ever fought. Was there about 20 mins killing orcs then he popped. I ran up and chi blasted him then started the assult. Then 2 orcs poped then he 2 houred O.O So I 2 houred and mowed through him and his two budies. Knife droped! So I logged and came back about and hour and a half later and did the same thing. He poped even fasters and this time only 1 link. Knige again!

A level 41mnk/20thf will have no problem with him even with a link. He seems to use his 2hour when hes about about half hp. By the way, the frist pop was at L-8 so he can be away from that little pond. Hope that helps.

This is really my favorite NM to camp, cause it really doesn't feel like your wasting time on a drop you may not get. On my server, it seems some people are still a little foggy on the spawning points.

I'd say the best way to camp this guy is to either sit in the T-junction fully zoomed out or run around the paths leading off the T-junction.
I could solo this guy OK going as 42THF/20WAR (for voke) buy using sleep bolts for multiple SA's. Just gotta watch for linking orcs >_>

Never had the bow drop after killing him about 8 times. Oh well, its only an extra 10k.
Got lucky.

Well, Davoi is a pain your butt if you don't know where to go. For nearly a week (RL time), I got lost and explored davoi because my mistake of re-activating the Infiltrate mission where I had to search for "!" for that NPC near the zone. So I had fair knowledge of the area. Well, here it goes I saw a few shouts for PLD 3rd flag and he shouted for a few more minutes before I decided to help him. So, we chocoed there and before I led him to the well I decided to check up on hawky here and his spawn wasn't near the pond it was just a bit north in the T-section So I decided to take him on. (35RDM/NIN) he was simple really, doing little damage but quick though, and thankfully he didn't EES me. Killed him got the knife and led the guy to the well.

I can confirm he moved. Camped him the other night, surprisingly enough the gilseller gave me all the following info, and it's correct since i got my 2 knives that i needed...
Place Holder: Orcish Cursemaker
Note: There are 2 Cursemakers in the area, 1 has a 4 hour repop time and the other is a 5 hour repop time (game hours of course)
Spawn Time: Enters Lottery 1 hour after the last NM kill.
Place Holder Repop: 5 hours, don't be like me and kill the wrong curse maker for an hour and wonder why it isn't popping.
The new Area: (L-9) the old pop area and added are (L-8) and a bit of (L-9) so the best place to stand is at the T crossing.

Hope this helps your hunt for Archer's Knife (or that bow)

I concur with the movement of this mob. I camped him tonight in order to get two Archer's Knives. The first time he spawned at K-8 on the curved pathway from L-8, the second spawn was L-8 right on the T-junction.

Not sure what the drop rate is for the bow but I'm guessing it's lower than the kinves as I got him twice in succession and both times he dropped the knife.

Lol if ur a gil seller why do you camp something with such a long pop time for a 50k drop. Camp lizzy or the emp. ******, no wonder they sell gil...

simply because it can be crafted into an item that sells for over a million. You don't think they'd go and buy the crafting components on the AH do you?

Having said that, when I camped Hawkeye there was only one GS there and easily beaten to the pop so I doubt it's as high priority as something like Leaping Boots where they can gain an almost instant turnover.

i heard they moved his spawn pos, and yes the knife is 100% drop, the bow is not. Does anyone know where he may of been moved, i know u won't tell, i'm sure someone from another server won't care, i'm on Fairy, so if u let me know of new spawn loc is its true, cuz i could use the dagger for my thf. thank u
