Meltdown

Not quite sure why everyone is saying not to fight these things, perhaps your thinking about a different mob?

I was farming Giants in the tower for Gil with my 50 WAR. Came across 3 of these in a room and proceeded to slaughter them all without a problem...

None of them cast anything called Meltdown. One cast berserk but that was it..
no stealin

If im not mistaken that is the one for a CoP mission. Its been so long since I did that NM I have forgotten the name. Im almost certain thatIm right though. He pops from clicking on the blank door in lower delk. I dont know why he would be up unless someone wiped trying to kill him.

meltdown vs barfire+phalanx = 22 damage

also try keeping your tp up so you can flat blade them or something. stunning stops it.

XD

they are checking too weak to me however [level 45 rdm] but i guess it's still good advice

Where is Disaster Idol?
# Dec 05 2004 at 7:45 AM Rating: Decent
Hello!

Where exactly did you see it?
I camped with friends the first floor I-8 (I mean the ground floor with the zone into Qufim but in map is called 1st) and the second floor in I+J-6.
7 hours killing Chaos Idols... no NM.

The good news is that an NM so strong can easily kill the gil-farmer inside Tower, but the repop time is toooo long. ;)
NM Idol?

Just wondering if anyone has seen an overly large idol in Delkfutt's Tower? I was farming these and grabbed aggro from one that was about 2 times bigger than the normal. Name was Disaster Idol. I was on lower when he hit. I had stoneskin/phalanx up and was half-way through finishing off a chaos idol. Fight lasted all of about 60 sec, after stoneskin got stripped he was hitting for about 110-120 damg. I was doing about 0-10 dam to him. I got a in-game pic but sadly in my panic i used the FFXI snapshot. I can't find anything here on this mob and was wondering if anyone else has seen it.

I was in the tower to do the 3-3 mission and we had a full pt 50-30 exp all meley DRK's,WAR,NIN,DRG and a monk. I cast Stun and it stops Melt down every time. we had fun smashing every thing we saw even some nm's we ran into. I was suprised with no healers we had very little down time. and lots of tp in the air.

Without looking these guys up on this site, my husband looked in the guide book instead. He was a 34 Paladin, I was a 35 Red mage. To both of us it checked EP with HD. So I casted stoneskin and blink on myself, and waited for him to pull one since we weren't entirely sure if the book was right about them not linking. ((There were two others besides the one we pulled.))

So, we fought one, and it went fine. I only had to use Cure II on my husband twice, and took no damage myself since he was voking it. So, along comes his little buddy, about 3/4 into the fight. We got the first one down, and started to beat away at the second one. Three hits into the fight my stoneskin wears off, and I see. "Chaos Idol prepares Meltdown." Okay, I'm thinking, I'm gonna take a bit of damage, no big deal, I have 531 hp, and my husband had full hp.

Well, Meltdown occured alright, and all of a sudden I'm staring at the little 'Return to Homepoint' button. I just stared for a minute, not really sure what had happened. My husband was still alive, with 230/587 hp....but I'm laying face down on the ground. So I scroll through the the log, and see. 'Nydanna takes 534 points of damage.' O.O I only had 531.....

Just a word of warning, don't fight these...seriously, unless you have reraise. -.-

My friend and I took one of these on I was on my lvl 30 rdm and he was on his lvl 30 thf. Make a long story short it used meltdown on us, and I diesengaged it, but my thf friend didnt in time. I took 172dmg with no barfire. He took 506dmg and died.

the disengage tactic works :) 43xp and no loot. :(

These will drop the Tractor scroll as well. Can anyone confirm this? I won't be fighting them again for awhile.

We let our BLM take that one of course.
Barfire saves lives
# Apr 18 2004 at 11:53 AM Rating: Good
Once I was fighting those and my LS suggested I cast Barfire. I thought, "They don't use fire magic," but I cast it anyway. In that battle, the Chaos Idol used Meltdown and everyone else was killed. I was still alive (albeit at low HP) so I /shouted for 5 Raises.

I looked at my fire defense and it was +50, to my surprise.
the trick

does not work
# Feb 16 2004 at 1:26 PM Rating: Decent
Your trick doesn't work. Was in a party of 6 24s and some Seeker Bats had aggro'ed us. I was busy keeping them off our tank when the damned thing uses Meltdown, hitting us for 200-210 damage

Bodies littered the ground.
vial of mercury

was killing these without too much difficulty in a full group at lvl25. However, meltdown hurts a lot. Most of the time they only use it when their health s down, but one time he used it right as we started attacking. It did about 520 dmg to our entire party and killed us all.

Also, we got a drop of a doll shard from killing these. Any clue what theey are used for?

Halfway through, Chaos Idol will use "Meltdown". A level 24 warrior with a defense of 129 took 340 points of damage and died (The Idol also kills itself).

After checking the log, it seems that they also drop a Vial of Mercury

I also got a vial of Mercury from the doll.
DO NOT FIGHT THESE
# Dec 27 2003 at 4:06 AM Rating: Default
There's nothing special about these... except they like to blow up and do 200+ damage to everyone in sight. Took out an entire unsuspecting alliance once. Not cool. Got 36 XP out of the deal! Bleah...
Ice Crystals

This dropped ice crystals, not light crystals.
