There seem to be a lot of people around Giddeus doing whatever and exp parties also. Competition! My tactic was to keep the entire pop area clean of all mobs the entire time so nobody else would even bother to come there. Worked well and earned me quite a few beehive chips and yagudo necklaces. Also got a Foe Lullaby for my BRD from Yagudo Piper.
not worth much though anymore as its only going for 40k atm on Gilgamesh server, and yeah Funkie the second time he was on the lower part but only just as i ran towords him he popped back up onto top part of map so i think he just stepped off slightly >.<
anyway GL anyone going for this xD

As is common knowledge, this NM has 1 placeholder, which is a Yagudo Mendicant. And they have a respawn of about 8 minutes.
So how do you know which one it is, aside from using Wide Scan and following the "second Mendicant" theory?
Every Mendicant has a spawn time of precisely 3 hours and 20 minutes (this is Vana'diel time, not Earth time). That means, that if you take the time down when a Mendicant dies, it will respawn at precisely 3h20m later, game time. This is what "about 8 minutes" means.
What's important to note, is that the NM follows the same 3'20 pop rule. This means, that if you witness the NM's death, either by you or someone else who claimed it, you can start counting 3'20 from that precise moment, and the Mendicant that pops on the 3'20 is the placeholder. Kill it, and start counting again. The next 3'20 is once again the placeholder. Starting from about 50 minutes later, any of the 3'20 placeholder pops can be the NM.
So long as you keep an eye on the other two Mendicants, you're golden. Back when I camped it, window opened at around 50+ minutes. I never had to wait 2-3 hours for a pop. Maybe they've changed that.
All you need to do is to be aware of whether the other two Mendicants are dead or not, and if they died, when that approximately was, so you don't confuse yourself with all the Mendicants running around. The other two Mendicants don't have to be killed, and I personally didn't, since I usually knew which one the placeholder was. This way if competition showed up, they had to figure it out for themselves.
I used two convenient macros when hunting Hoo Mjuu:
ALT-1: claim macro. I used /ja "Provoke" <t> for this. I have also used /follow <t> on the second line after the provoke, and filled the rest of the lines with provoke, but I don't like this as much as it seemed to occasionally interfere with my running towards the NM and voking it "manually".
ALT-2: /clock. Simply, this made a lot easier for me to keep up with what time it is IN GAME. Once I determined the placeholder and killed it, I instantly hit my clock macro to note the time, then in my head I just added 3 hours and 20 minutes to it, and remembered that time. Then I hit the clock macro occasionally, and once I got within 10 seconds I went into 3rd person view and kept an eye out for pop, since I didn't have Wide Scan available to me at the time.
Using this method is obviously for the patient, but then that's how it is with all NMs, really. I made a decent chunk of gil with the Signa drop back in the day. It's cheaper now, but still worth camping if you ask me. If you have the patience for the low drop rate, which I no longer do.
This method is also convenient because you know when it pops, so you dont have to stand there watching every mob. You can run off to nearby areas and farm yagudos and bees there for drops to sell or trade for Norg fame. However I suggest you don't kill all the yagudos in the immediate NM pop area, just to throw off possible competition. Good luck.

I don’t share the complaint about the drop rate of the Monster Signa, its fine. I do have a problem with the value of this item. Hoo Mjuu the Torrent is a relatively easy kill for even lower level players (not that they have a chance against the 65+ players there killing him). This guy has got to be one of the most heavily camped NM in the game and this particular drop is used by only a small group of players. Changing his spawn rate will do nothing more then make this item more expensive at the Auction House. I suggest they make Signa an exclusive item, if they need game balance change the Aspir Knife or the Parana Shield that drop in the same area to normal items. I’m sure both of these will attract less attention then the Signa. Just one Bards opinion (Who has still not got the drop). 4 for 4 on Cuffs after a week of trying, I’m so sick of Giddeus, but I’ll be back today!

They kinda connect. The lower level you are, the more time it takes to kill it.
Being a 29THF/14WAR(New char.-havent hit 30 w/ any jobs to unlock NIN), it takes me a decent amount to kill him but, I do it w/ ease.I don't know what to say other than I'm lucky as sh*t. 2/4 on Hoo Mjuu the Torrent. Both times I got the drop, I had links(probably means nothing). All in all, level probably has nothing to do w/ it but, meh.

I think that only so many yag can spawn in one spot, so I had it a little easier watching a smaller spawn area than normal, other than when the occasional person ran through and killed everything, messing up my spawn.
0/3 on the signa so far, but I'm 2/3 on the mitts and 1/3 on the scroll.
To everyone complaining on the drop rate, deal with it! Most NM's have a very poor drop rate, especially when not influenced by TH (such as Torrent isn't influenced by it).
I also am a firm believer that making connections with a WS or letting a mob (NM) hit you influencing the drop rate is just conjecture and a case of your mind influencing the perceived outcome.
For example, on most 'big' NM's that I've gotten drops from over the years, I have always used WS' on. In fact, I let the 'crowd notion' get to me a bit for awhile and was scared to use WS' on NMs. There is no link and in fact, the crazier I get on destroying an NM with a ws and such (contrary to the mindset), the higher a chance I've noticed on the drop. This leads me to conclude in my mind that there is no connection whatesoever.
The problem with the human psyche is that when we do something that has a low probability of a favorable outcome and succeed finally, we sort through everything we did at the time to see what "caused" it. I put the word caused in quotes b/c that is what our mind automatically reasons as a conclusion.
Take gambling. You will see more superstitions of the geriatric (old folks) population when in a casino than probably anywhere else (maybe MLB players as well - it's crazy). They will have little "isms" to help influence a winning streak just because that is the connection that there mind can think of as a causative factor in the past as to why they succeeded. In reality, of course, we know it is luck.
So when you throw a partial skill into the mix (i.e. as in baseball), you REALLY think you are influencing the outcome. That is why baseball players cannot deviate from their 'ticks' as it were. Some players have it much worse than others. Take a look at a baseball game this summer for a bit. Notice the batters and how badly they have it (pitchers too). They are in control of the game at the moment more than anyone else on the field. This, combined with the notion that they have caused things to happen in the past as favorable, leads them to pattern exactly what they did in the past. These set patterns, ticks, whatever you want to call it, are imprinted; that is why you will see some batters take off their gloves and put them back on/re-tighten them in between each pitch practically.
Woah, I know this is way off the subject, but in a round-a-bout way, I'm actually making a point here. It is to point out that, when you step back and look, the connections that we make as to why we get a monster signa, a rare NM drop, or any treasure in this game are simply laughable at best. Now I know there are things built in that perhaps influence drop rates (moon phase, day, the mysterious treasure hunter trait), but the less plausible ideas such as letting a mob hit you more or using a WS seems just ludicrous to me.
It is as if you are fighting an NM, and you turn off your TV during the fight and turn it back on again, and viola: drop! It is like making the connection that turning the tv off caused a drop.
That's the same causative event as using a WS. It just simply isn't true. I've gotten signa 2 times out of somewhere in the 30's. I've used WS' about half the time and there is no change in rate.
So to sum up my dissertation for some useful tips perhaps:
-this guy isn't influenced by treasure hunter
-he is a bad drop rate, so expect this going into the camp. You may get lucky and go 1/1. Bravo and you have just arrived at a good place at a good time. Nothing more, nothing less.
-When you let all the yags spawn and there are 4 mendicants, his window is open. He will spawn in place of one of the PH's after their death and respawn time is up. May take a bit.
-If you see 3 Mendy's, one of the pipers can be a PH. It just happens randomly, so his window can still be open. To test this, kill all Mendy's and Pipers and see how many Mendy's repop, rinse and repeat.
-Finally...please note that sometimes there are 4 mendys but you only see three. Check to see if a Mendy has wandered off the cliff. He is suicidal and can be one of the PH's! I've seen the 4th Mendy wander off of the cliff many times but people always fail to catch it.

RNG63 - Using Shadowbind to claim & got all claims

17:43 (Killed) - Got deoderize, pwned him in 2 Rattk hits..
18:46 (Killed) - Roughly an hour later, killed him using Sidewinder (got mitts)
19:50 (Killed) - Killed him using Sidewinder again and got Deoderize.
21:22 (Killed) - An hour and a half later, killed him using no WS, got Deoderize.
23:23 (killed) - 2 hours later, now i got a tip off from an LS member here, i used my daggers to attack him this time and let him kill me off abit, he used benedication and then protect, then warcry, he hit me a little bit more, then i killed him, bingo, got the drop.
Done WITHOUT TH1 or TH2
I noticed a slight pattern in the time's he spawned after i killed the PH's (Medicants) first 3 were an hour between each pop, 4th was 1 and 1/2 hours, and then 2 hours, i dont know if that's any help but thats my log of his time's
Notice that the longest pop dropped the Signa.. also because i let him use some of his job abilitys i think that may have something to do with drop rate on this guy, giving that i gave him NO chance whatsoever before and i let the battle going for about 3 min's when i got the drop, so let him hit u abit, see what happends.
Would be nice if someone tested this theory, and i hope this helps, thanks.
Edit: All 5 times he poped in the corner of the bend to the right of the BIG tree, in that little pool.
If this helps:

Two of the people there were killing the placeholders so I watched the order in which they killed the mobs and then the order in which the mobs popped back up. When I saw that the ones killed closest to me (left of big rock) were popping again I suspected that another was going to pop soon closer to the cave, so as one or two were killing the yagudos that had just popped I started to run towards the cave to check and there he was. Provoke, got claim and killed. 1/1, I was there for a total of 15 minutes.
I'm not sure if it was just luck that I ran over there right at that time or if watching the order they are killed and the order they come back up really does work, I've never camped him before.
Afterwards I just helped two of the people get yagudo beads for a while and then went to camp stray mary. Got her but no drop 1/6 on her -.- sold it when I didn't want to be a bard anymore.

The first time I camped he dropped it, and a few times after he dropped it. There's been an RMT camping the 24 hours I have been, it so obvious he's botting and such, lol. Level 30 something with level 7 armor, the moment Hoo spawns, he Flee's and Provokes. Then he runs back to the exact same spot with his back turned to his camp. -__-;
He pops in either 1 of 3 places. One to the far left (the side of the cave), one in the middle near a Harvesting Point, and a 3rd to the far right across from the path to the South East side of the map. Hopes this helps. I'm 90% sure this information is correct.

Worst day of my life. Though I'm grateful that there's no RMT's owning this guy. D: I felt bad when I read the comments on this thing.
TH 1/2 just offers the chance of having more items as a drop. But Hoo Mjuu can only drop 1 item. So TH is useless on him. Definitely.
And for the record: 16/35 or something like that. Never used any kind of TH.

I think it's explains my characters feelings quite nicely!
FYI I've waited up to three hours for his pop. The mendicants are in fact the place holders. They respawn after five minutes and his place of popping is random. I've got camping him down to an art.....so sad.

Spawn Locations: The map on cannotlinkto isn't 100% correct. Once you get up to Hoo Mjuu's plateau, there are 6 spawn locations -- which are all over the plateau. Just take a close look at where the Yag Medicants spawn and you'll see 6 spawn points. The best spot to stand as far as viewing angles seems to be the high rock in the middle of the plateau. You can't miss it, it kinda juts out over the edge. I've gotten most of my claims from seeing him spawn on that rock, and it provides easy access to any direction you need to run to claim.
Placeholders: The Yagado Medicient is the placeholder for Hoo Mjuu. I've tested this theory on the few times I was the only one camping. There are some who say that killing anything but the placeholders will lengthen the spawn time of the NM, but idk, i think thats bullsh*t, but whatever floats your boat. Personally, I don't bother killing the rest of the Yagado just b/c I don't need any of the items they drop, and it distracts from looking for the NM.
Claiming: I've seen almost every job out camping Hoo Mjuu, and I stand firm that /bst is the best way to claim. I've had Hoo Mjuu claimed before these /thf even have time to get their crossbow out. My reasoning for /bst is that /charm is an instant claim, and has a very long range (hmm...longer than provoke, and i belive about the same as the RNG's shadowbind). You do what ya want, but ranged weapons just take too long to claim. Even if i'm out of range with /charm, I can usually get in range to use it before /ra can shoot.
Respawn Time: From what I can tell, normal respawn time 1-2hr, with the longest i've encountered being 2h20m.
Drops: I'm around 1/15 on the Signa. I got the Monster Signa my second claim with /bst on a New Moon (0%). However, I have yet to see the signa drop again, even as /thf.
Kupo!
this now puts me at 3/6 on torrent for getting the staff so idk how some people say they have such bad luck with him >.< anyway has to tell someone about this.

Funny how this game works.

He can take up to 3 hours to pop. It's like 52 minutes - 3 hours 8 minutes.
I've come to camp this guy and more then once, I drop down the hole, run up the hallway, and see Hoo standing there and no one else sees him even though they have been standing there for 3+ hours.
So I claim, pull him into hallway and kill him. If I don't get drop I walk out like nothing happened and go AFK for an hour. If I do get drop I leave and don't tell anyone.
This could be what happened to you as well.

I finally got up there, and I noticed that a lot of people were hanging around (at least five or six), so I assumed that Hoo Mjuu was going to pop soon. I didn't know how long it would be, so I decided to begin farming Yagudo Bead Necklaces. I cast some nuke on a Yagudo Piper and begin clubbing it into oblivion, at the exact moment Hoo Mjuu the Torrent popped. I could only watch as he was claimed and taken down by another camper.
I hadn't been there for very long, so I wasn't all that angry or anything. I congratulated the guy who claimed him; however, upon killing Hoo Mjuu, all he got were the Zealot's Mitts. He left, and most of the campers dispersed. I resumed farming the Yagudo Bead Necklaces. I spent most of the time doing that as well as going on to desynthesize the necklaces right then and there; I didn't have enough room in my inventory (stupid me :P) and I didn't think I'd be disrupted.
Anyways, the hour passed quickly, and before I knew it, a bunch of people had gathered to wait for him. I became nervous and stopped farming, and with the rest of them, just stood around. I realized just how intent I was on getting the claim on Hoo, even though that had never been my original intention for coming to Giddeus at all. Every time a Yagudo Mendicant popped, my heart raced.
Hoo Mjuu the Torrent popped beside that platform in the area where he spawns. I saw him pop and start walking forward, and like lightning I was on him, and I got the claim. This was the first time I'd ever gotten the claim on a NM, especially one as notorious as Hoo Mjuu, so I was really happy. The battle itself was a cinch, despite the fact that I was just a lowly Taru BLM/WHM. He never got the chance to use Benediction. I just nuked him with Water II and Stone II until he died.
All he dropped was the mitts, but I wasn't even mad about that; for one, I was just glad to have got the claim, and two, because I needed a pair. The others congratulated me. I continued farming Yagudo Bead Necklaces until I had to leave, but before that happened, a new camper showed up. I made sure to inform how long it had been since Hoo Mjuu had died, so he had a frame of reference.
Yeah, that's my very long-winded story of my first camping of Hoo Mjuu the Torrent. I hope I can get the Monster Signa at some point; it's such a nice weapon for BRD or BST. (I'm more concerned about the latter than the former, to be honest.)
