Soloed it to finish the quest tonight as RDM42/BLM21 (Tarutaru).

Spawned it with sneak on, and promptly ran a short distance to buff - Refresh, Protect II, Shell II, Blink, Stoneskin, Phalanx, Blaze Spikes, Enfire, Barwater.

Pulled it from the Labyrinth Scorpions with Bio II, then proceeded to land the other debuffs - Gravity, Slow, Paralyze, Blind, Choke, Shock. Didnt need Elemental Seal for any of them.

Proceeded to melee away at it, recasting Stoneskin once or twice. Got hit by Fluid Toss once for around 150-180 iirc. Only brought me into the low yellow range, but I never needed to cure myself; rather, I used drain and kept regen up. I also never used Elemental Magic until the end, at which point I finished it off with Thunder I. May have used Shining Strike once, although I can't recall using it.

Finished the fight after a few minutes and recieved 39 exp and the Burnite Shell Stone. Had plenty of MP (50-75% somewhere) and HP (yellow, maybe barely orange, had regen up).

If anyone's curious as to the exact gear I was using feel free to post a reply. If you're on Gilgamesh and are too low to take this, gimme a holler to see if I'm free and I'll see what I can do.

EDIT1: Updated a few things I forgot.

EDIT2: Just checked screenshots I took with FRAPS. Final stats:
HP [340/498] (yellow, 68%)
MP [277/480] (58%)

First off I didn't even know what this was, so suffice it to say when I hit the spawn point I was rather surprised. Just FYI (though I'm sure it's been said) you do not need to have the quest or trade an item to activate the spawn just touching the point is enough.

As a 49 thief / 24 ranger sub with about 100 hp below max I spawned this thing. My average hit was between 11-18 damage with criticals in the 23-25 range and almost every blow landed (atk 182). Gust Slash landed for between 100-110 each time.

Ire hit me in the 27-32 range hitting about 15%-20% of the time if that (def 144, eva 159). Like most oozes Ire attacks with relative speed and hits harder than average.

Special Attacks
Ire used fluid toss twice and fluid spread once. Fluid toss hit 1/2 and did 240+ damage fluid spread hit for 80.

Notes
No food was used; at the end I had 12 hp and had to use perfect dodge to finish the fight -- though this would not have been necessary had I been at full hp to start; drop was the shell only.

ok this thing is a ***** bad, if your not ready for it. I went the other day as a 65 BLM / 32 WHM basically ran outta MP killing stuff otw there. Anyway I started killing the slime thats by the stone you touch to spawn him and then touched stone. I had like 200 MP left and started meleeing them. Well he hits hard like 15-30 damage and I only got 652 HP. I kinda let it go for a while till I noticed I was under 250 HP so I sleepga II and then drain got all my HP back. then it was cake from there on. So word to the wise be ready to pay attention to killing this thing it ain't a pushover.

Here are my details on defeating this NM

LVL 41BLM/WHM (yeah i know!!!!)
Taru..

Earthday..

Cast Protect I, Blink, Aquaviel, Shell I, BarWatera, Sneak, Barpoisona

Ate: Crayfish (+def)

The mobs in the room with him are all easy for me.. this means as blm... they will kill me without any problems...

i ignored them walked into the furthest corner of the spawning zone and called the NM.

used Sleep on him, then Cast
Blind,Slow,Paralyze,then Bind
Then Bio, Water II (which worked ok actually 170ish..) Fire I, and thunder I in alteration, only took one break from this to cast Drain, at around 370hp..

Defeated him with 7mp and 200hp...
(i would have more mp but i didn't take a full rest after buffing, was worried about aggro from resting near scorpions)

while resting from fight proto* slime attacked me... I managed to sleep it and use escape.

A tough battle, for Taru blm, I think 41 is the absolute min.lvl you could do this without dieing..

!!!!!!!!WOOHOO!!!!

As for howto get to this monster listen up...

When you enter the maze you enter at C9, go down the map transition point at G6, from there you will come out again onto the upper map at H5 (one way path in between the two points)

Go down to the lower map at point J7 from upper map.

From there just find your way to F8 and you are set.. I believe the point doesn't have the name ??? but Fossil something... click it and the monster will spawn..

When it spawned on me I had cast sneak already.. so it did NOT aggro me right away, giving me time to position myself and cast sleep, etc.

Goodluck!

i doubt u soloed this at lvl 41 but if you did congratulations because with NM you add about 10 levels to what it says up there and thats what the solo lvl is for it.(this doesnt work for low lvl monsters but as you go up the mobs seems to get way stronger so you see my point)

Even so, Slimes are weak to Magic. I believe it is entirely possible to kill this thing. It's actual level is 35-36, so 41 is plenty as a magic caster.

Just make sure Blind sticks >.<
where?

46 WHM/23 BLM

Protect II, Shell II, blink, stoneskin, blaze spikes (weakness to fire), full MP, dived right in. Blinded, paralyzed, dia II, and poisoned it. Fire wasn't hurting enough, so alternated with banish II. Used drain 2x during the whole battle. He was dead before dessert :) Easy peesy, even had MP after the battle to warp out, and then some (bout 150ish MP left and almost full health). Didn't bother to try to melee.

Who says whm can't solo? XD tee hee.

everybody seems so... scared of this NM LoL!!

I have 1031hp as 58THF/24NIN
I went in to fight with @500hp completely on accident... I just like clicking things =P

First off, someone above said they clicked it and it didn't agro, I tested that theory standing as far away as I could the 2nd and 3rd times I spawned him, he is automatically claimed no matter where I stand, so I believe it auto agros whoever clicks it, cuz I really wanted to see what an SA would do to him...

Corsair and Beetle+1 knives hit him for @30-45 dmg per hit, I use one Viper Bite for the added poison, cast 3 utsusemi's during battle and he dies like the little #%$*# that he was. Had 350+ hp left over and went back to farming the scorpions. Maybe my Divination Sphere will be ready in the morning ^^

50rng/25thf Lost to this using 2hr?!?!
51mnk had to 2-hr ?!?!

ahhh, you guys make me feel so buff! Keep up the good work dmage dealers XD
i cant find the ??? at f-8

Went in as 44 Blm / 22 whm solo, not knowing what to expect. Came in from Tahrongi canyon side, dropped down to where spawn point was. All mobs were too weak except for Wights, which were easy prey, so I casted sneak. Got into the spawn area and saw 2 scorpions and a slime. I Read that None of the mobs linked, only agrod, and since all coned as too weak, I decided to not kill anything in the room and spawn him anyways. Casted blink/protect/shell and spawned him. A few good hits with FireII and he was dropped dead. I barely took any damage. Nothing linked. I notice that people solo as warrior classes and get killed, however I rarely see people soloing mobs as a mage. This is a perfect solo mob for a mage since although it seems pretty strong against physical damage, magical damage works it relatively easy. Got item from it, warped back to windy, and completed quest. Yay! now I have rank 4 fame and can do the warpII quest.

There was a 75 rdm on our server that would hold this thing for hours on end. I have no idea why.

Just killed this guy last night with a few friends, there were 5 of us so we had no problem at all ^^; 45 PLD, 41 RDM, 3? BLM (Sorry pastry >_<) 36 MNK and 45 THF <me> Just a usefull tidbit is that he only drops 1 burnite per death. So if going with friends prepare to be there a while @_@ He has about a 10 min recharge time after a death so its not too bad.

Happy Hunting :)

Well... A friend(50 SMN/WHM w/ Fenrir) and I (43 WHM/BLM) went exploring for excavation points to get my Wyvern egg.. got the sucker on my first try :P. Then I decided to split what pickaxes I had left with him and we'd take turns on the excavation points we found, so we turned out exploring the maze. I was native to it but he was a Bastokian >>; We went so deep in that Labrynth Scorps conned EP to me e_e, encountered a wight and it dropped a Rusty Key oO;;. Now on to the story >>; here we are in this circular room and I see that fossil rock that looks odd and out of place. I press on it and he spawns. Well... it didnt aggro at all for the first 2 mins. So we just stared and poked at it. Then it aggros my friend x.x so we had no choice but to fight it :\ Needless to say we won and it dropped some... dagger thingy >> Shell something oO;.... can't remember what it was called x.x but it was a fun fight ^^
What knife
# Feb 08 2005 at 6:49 AM Rating: Decent
just curious, but what knife does this thing drop exactly? Its not listed under the drops at the top.

Q - 62 PLD/WAR
RE: What knife
# Feb 17 2005 at 9:37 AM Rating: Decent
It drops the burnite shell, which is a knife (well dagger actually). You use that knife to turn into the guy in windurst for the Blast from the Past quest.

is there something special??
# Feb 03 2005 at 9:33 PM Rating: Decent
is there something special about spawning this guy?? i checked out the spot and it said that somone had mined the ore there, or something to that effect. so does that mean i have to wait?? i assume it does, but i didn't read anyone mentioning anything like that.
Tough fight's?
# Jan 21 2005 at 12:59 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, here's my 2 cents. I knew nothing bout this guy. I was killing in Maze w/ my 46rng for keys doing RSE. I touched spot and spawned this guy, having only 1/2 hp (bad idea for rng). He came out i got him down to 1/4 hp using fire arrows, then he did special move and pwnd me. I got port back and went straight for this guy again. Full hp, arrows sucked, so i just blazed thru about 1/2 stack of sleep arrows, thus making him my
b--ch. Got dagger, cried cuz it sux, and went back to killing stuff for keys. Moral of the story is.... if you know your limits and use the equipment that is available for your job... you to could have ownage!! 8p
Where is Ichorous Ire

Well Like several of the previous posters, I had a hard time finding this, and ran into every dead end.. Grrr...

So here is how to get to Ichorous Ire:

Enter on the Tahrongi Canyon side (K-5) into the Maze of Shakhrami.
Follow the Left wall towards G-6... At G-6 Take the Right Passageway, and Follow that to the other end at H-5.
Upon exiting the Tunnel, Head Directly Left to the Tunnel at J-6... Shortly into the Tunnel there is a Drop Down.
Drop Down and follow the right wall to the Tunnel at J-7.
Enter the Tunnel at J-7 and proceed west until you enter a large open area, there will be "Fossil Rocks" all around, after crossing the main portion of the room, head to the left wall and enter the tunnel at F-8.
Follow this back to a Large Bright "Fossil Rock" up a small slope.

Click on the Rock and Ichorous Ire will Spawn.

Now how to Get out:
Exit the Tunnel where Ichorous Ire was, and head East and South to G-8.
There is another Dropdown here... Once you Drop down follow the tunnel to the exit at H-9.
Do a Slight U-Turn and enter the Tunnel at H-8 (Just north from where you exited).
Once you reach the end of this tunnel, head West as far as you can, Turn left and follow the right wall to the exit.

Mission Complete!
Good Luck to anyone trying to do this.

When I went to go fight this guy, I went down three dead-ends before finally getting down the right path. I kinda forgot about all the pits/high walls that blocked my path. Oh well.

I get there, and I see a Protozoan right in front of it. I asked my LS if they'd link or not, they responded "I think so." I wasn't about to take any chances since, as a Monk, I'm not too effective against slimes anyway. I kill it and my HP is in the yellow. Now I'm not too confident about this fight. -_-

I heal up to full, Boost a few times, then click on it. Unleash a Chi Blast, Focus, Dodge, Hundred Fists, and I kill him with 202 HP left. This was as a 49MNK/24WAR.

Was pretty fun, though. I enjoyed walking through the maze looking for this guy. =)
Tough Fight
# Nov 29 2004 at 8:01 PM Rating: Decent
I fought this NM as a Whm52/Blm26 and almost died. Magic works best against this guy ... especially fire. My physical attacks did nothing(not surprizing being a whm). I also had to use my 2hr to resore my HP to the maximum as my MP ran out. My Pinneapple Juice gave me just enough MP to finish it off with one last fire spell. I was close. Really close.

Suggest you bring a scroll of Instant Wrap so you can warp out.
