I read through the threads on Lumbering Lambert and Rampaging Ram, and I was told that their spawn times are 1 1/2 real time hours. Well that just isn't true. I camped Lumbering Lambert for 5 hours with no spawn. I killed Rams every 10 min and I made sure to note, whenever I didn't get to kill him, their time of death. So I'm sure that I couldn't have missed him. So to those that were lucky enough to get him really fast, send some of that luckiness over here when I prepare to camp the next three NM's for my brown belt.

for those that are camping this; The Battering rams that are placeholders for this spawn exactly every 10 minutes, so after you kill a Battering Ram, in 10 minutes either LL will spawn or a Battering Ram

no good drops??? he drops one of the items for the purple belt quest which is required to do the brown belt, which I think is also required to do the black belt quest. seems like a really good drop to me, you being a 75mnk should know this. and if you already have those mentioned belts killing him is rude.

I thought it might be useful to point out that although Rams have a 4 hour respawn timer for a specific location, you will find that a new Ram pops approximately every 11 minutes. This is only a general rule. I've found that another will pop about 4 minutes after the last one died. So keep checking your widescan. This might be considered common knowledge to people who are familiar with Ram camping, but I was fairly new to the experience and found this out only from doing it, even after reading the posts.

On my three camping trips, I've seen him spawn twice (didn't get the claim on the first one). Once was at the edge of I-9 between the mountains, and the other time was H-9 in the ruins.

Also, if you find that you seem to have competition for Rams, I encourage you to talk to whomever might be competing with you and find out what they're up to. You might discover that all they want are skins and are willing to team up. Two pairs of widescans are better than one! Of course you might find that they're out for LL or RR as well. At the very least you'll find out if they're a jerk or not and whether your competition is friendly. ~.^

I hope this helps! Happy hunting! (*^_^)b

Finally took this shoop out yesterday. Camped it for only about a half an hour after numerous 2-3 hour camping trips. Killed him as a 50mnk/14rng. No problem at all of course but he did use a petrify attack that I resisted. I don't know how I managed to beat out the 50rng/25thf who was also hunting him. It was my time, I guess. Got the horn and completed the Bastok Purple Belt quest. I only activated the quest some 2 and a half years ago...<sarcasm>
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 22 2005 at 6:30 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I just fought this guy yesterday as 60PLD/30WAR, it was not as easy as I imagined.

Ram Spawn Times and Information

The normal Rams in the area (Battering Ram) respawn @ 4 game hours from Time of Death.

I killed 2 placeholders around the northwest side of the valley around the G-10 area. Lumbering Lambert popped between the mountain ranges @ H-8. This is a bit outside the range shown on the NM maps I've seen, including the one on this page.

Best bet obviously is Widescan - a level 1 Ranger's is sufficient. Beastmaster 20 isnt as good, but better than nothing.

Follow the road east and west from H-9 to I-9. Scan every few game minutes. Once you've found and killed a Ram, note time of death, and expect another to pop in this area 4 game hours later.

I easily solo'd this as a THF43/NIN21.
Kept DEF Down, Poison, and Blind on it (Bolts). Kept casting Uts: Ichi, I hit him for 20-40 a Dagger. He hit me once for 46 DMG, Great Bleat Missed me. Dropped 5 Skins, a Horn, and the Lumbering Horn. I would say a THF/NIN around level 36 could solo this, just use Bloody Bolts if you get hit.

41MNK/10RNG

Just killed this guy after 2 and a half hours of battering rams, and a death from the evil Bloodtear Baldurf.

I used hundred fists because he made me wait so damn long and he went down within a minute, Ragingfists did 403 damage.

Now I can finally start the brown belt quest.

Good luck all trying to get him.
not for lvl 30's :/

I was raising Jeunonian fame, and was passing through La Theine to get to Selbina. "Heh," I thought to myself. "If I see a Battering Ram, I'll dismount my chocobo and whack it around." I reached (H-9) (I was taking the shortcut to Valkurm by going through the pass between the mountains and the ravine), and sure enough, Lumbering Lamberts big fuzzy behind was right next to the road! I dismounted, popped Hundred Fists, Berserk, Dodge, and Focus (nobody was around, for some reason) and wailed onto the poor sheep. He was down in about 2.7 minutes, and I was down to 66 HP from the extra damage I was taking from Berserk. I got two ram horns, a skin, and a Lumbering Horn. Now I just need to find the Rampaging Ram and I'll have two Purple Belts! (Got this one as a birthday present, will use 1 in the brown belt quest)
Can we please get some useful information?

Guys, as much as I loath all your life stories, would it be possible to tell us what you know about he mob? Not how it killed you, or how you encountered it leveling, passing by, spotted it, ect. I get pretty damn sick of reading through everyones story about seeing the mob!

LOL, well im replying to my own posting. Mins after I posted this, i circled thru the area to G-10, rumored to be a expanded spawning ground to the LL. I retreated to I-9,85% probubility rams spawn there. I saw the Lumber before my eyes and took him down and had the bragging rights of the day. I also had a spectader to applaud my work. 5 hours in waiting well worth it when everyone gives up ;). MERRY CHRISTMAS FF fans ! 05
Why do peope need to rub it in?

My first encounter with this little bugger:

I logged on and decided to do some farming (leathercraft). So I was running through La Theine Plateau, omw to the Konchat Highlands. I ran past a group of 3 people (level 30 at the most) and they were fighting him. By the time I got there he had a little less than 3/4 of his health left and they were all at about half (I knew that they were all gonna die). So I decided to stick around and watch. This caused me to get that stupid HP down affect...it took me all the way to 190 (I had 760).
I then walked off to the side to heal myself when they called for help. I got back to about 300 health so I figured that I was ok to fight. Well...they all 2-houred which brought him to about 1/3 of his health and then they all died. So I fought for a bit and took him to a bit less than 1/4 and then he got me really low so I'm like, "ok, f*** this."
So I start running then I see this level 75 rdm who laughed at me and some little dude he was PLing who also laughed (btw, both of them are now on my blist). So I am running and make it near the zone and then he kills me. I figured that this was expected so I wasn't too angry.
What really pissed me off though was that a level 60ish whm walked up behind me right as I clicked "return to home point". And once I zoned he sent me a /tell saying, "hehe, thanks for the drop ^_^". Needless to say...I got pissed off and shut the game down.

Ugh. Finally got my purple belt quest because I had Rampaging for about 2 weeks. Being a 33RDM/RNG I figured my chances were better. I'm on the Remora so things are bit easier/tougher then most servers. Lumbering is annoying, I killed everything in the area and waited for a hour no pop off my Widescan and tried again every few minutes. Finally after about 3hrs he shows up, I run in, casted Dia and I was brought down 1/4 of my HP. Anyone about 30 shouldn't try him, he can petrify you. I had to chainspell at that level to keep up healing, stoneskin, and phalanx.
Well...

Well, I was standing around Jeuno and decided to finally get around to trying on the Purple/Brown Belt quests. I've had the Rampaging Horn for quite a while now, and so I got a Teleport-Holla to go kill Lambert. I'm a 70THF and I subbed RNG.

Ran southwest... widescan... sure enough he was there, Flee, Steal. Probably wasn't necessary because nobody was around anyway. Barrage hit for 611 with acid bolts and Slug Shot hit for 1117 or more (killed it). Time for brown belt quest now.

Took it down about 4 hours ago with my 40MNK/10RNG (for widescan). Killed 4 Battering rams (got the lanolin cube too) and it spawned about 1 hour after I began camping it.

Got the claim, used focus and dodge and then slapped on hundred fists and took down his health quickly. He used rampage halfway through which didn't cause any problems, I had a big smile on my face as I had him down to a sliver of his health left and then I saw him ready Petribreath(I'd read about it having a long effect on you and my heart sank, I didn't want to lose when I was so close) my hundred fists ran out and he used his petribreath but missed! Got two more punches in to finish him off before I could do the honours with combo.

Got the horn drop and completed the quest. Too easy.

Ok, so I was running through La Thiene Platue and I was like, "Ok, gotta get the Lumbering Lambert for the purple belt quest!" So I rolled through there on my choco to where i thought he would be, I was looking almost 15 secs and found him. Dismount'ed, and {Chi Blast}'ed it for the claim, got him down about to 2/5 life and he used great bleat, my hp went from 1022/1022 (He had never hit me, i countered everything) to 255/255. Then he started laying the poundage on me, he got 7 criticals, and I used {Raging Fists} for 605 dmg to end the fight.I had 50/255 HP. Score ended up: Faudy:1 Lumbering Lambert:0
Lucky?

He spawned after in less than an hour of Ram farming/Lambert camping. Made 15k in the process too, and got my Lumbering Horn. Wouldn't mind if it took longer, at least Ram Horns are good money.

Ok as i post below i have spent a crap load farming him, well i was up in the 17hour mark of farming him. still no spawn, well after the update i loged in, (when i search world i was about the 500+ person to log into the new reset server.) and after about 25min. he spawn almost dead center of G-10, (so his spawn area is a lot greater than listed above on the map) so my lvl 42monk/20ranger (ranger for wide scan)took him down without loosing 150hp just bost chi blast then let loose hundred fist then into bost chi blast, boost raging fist and that was about it. then i ran over to the highland and got the other ram in 10min, after that i got two other NM that day. (love server reset day)

I was feeling a little cocky, I just got my Purple Belt and was Ram hunting. I turned around he popped. right there, So I thought Ill try (was a 30 Monk/12 Warrior) I provoked him and slapped Dodge on instantly. I was giving him a run for his money, assuming he couldnt touch me with Dodge. I kept spamming Boost and got Focus on after Dodge. I got him down to about 1/5 of his bar, I was about 221/593, then the bugger goes and uses Grand Bleat, It took my Max HP from 593 to 177 and he started hitting me hard. I almost won, but he beat me. I long to challenge him again, and I firmly beleive if my Sub Job was devoloped, I could have killed this bad boy
