Magian Trial 579

This NM is also used to Magian Trial 579. Needs to be killed 3 times with the appropriate Trial Katana equiped.

Earlier my friend had told me that he has seen the rampaging ram so I was kinda interested and since rampaging ram was gone a started looking for this guy, started searching in the circled area and not even five minutes into it i was up near the middle portion of the circle. Killed him using my level 33 pld/war, it was little rough at some points, he'd be lot more devastating if he didn't miss every other hit. In the end I only had 210 hp left after using my 2 hour. .

Soloed this guy no problem as 40Monk/Thief. Here are a couple tips:

1. If there is competition, you will have a challenge. Get some help otherwise you'll be counting on luck to get the claim. I camped LL for four hours only to lose claim twice - even if you have widescan, competition for this will be frustrating... though not impossible. Get a friend to help - keep him/her on the East side of the path and you stay on the West.

2. Run along the path from the East Side of the zone all the way to the clearing right before the Crag... on the East Side, the Place-holder Rams pop a bit off the path but you can still spot them.

3. Bring an empty inventory if you can... especially if you are subbing THF. You will get tons of rams skins and horns (currently going for 1k and 2k respectively on Sylph. I made like 30k during this whole ordeal... would've earned more if I made more room in my inventory.

4. If you are up against another person, see if that person already got the other horn from Rampaging Ram - if not, make a deal to either camp in Kon. Highlands or see if he'll move... he probably wants the competition just as little as you do. My only competition today offered to go to the Highlands while I camped in La Theine... once I got the horn, I let him know and he did the same for me... it worked out so we both got it done simultaneously without having to compete against each other... (good looking out SpaceGhost)

As for the fight... pretty easy for my lvl 40 monk (with a gimped THF sj). Had like 380hp left in the end.

Good luck!

Lumbering Horn

Soloed as Bst58/Whm29 Just dropped, I think it's 100% drop . I've had the Quest and the Rampaging Horn for ages. I wasn't doing anything particular so went over to see if I could finish the Quest. No rams on wide scan, I didn't see anyone else there, less than ten minutes pop H9 next to the wall near the path, engaged, crab familiar hitting for over 200. Watch out for max HP drain took over 750 hp. My pet could have soloed it, I should have let it, I ended up with less than 300 HP from over 1000. Easy fight at this level just watch out for the max HP drain, be prepared for it. I was lucky with the pop, I've tried to get the Horn a few times and never seen the Ram. Good luck and keep trying.
Lucky S.O.B ?

Hmmm. i must be the Luckiest S.O.B ever.

I had this quest for 6 months before I decided to complete it the other night. I subbed my gimpy RNG11 for wide scan and ran out to Konschtat Highlands for Rampaging Ram.

I ran around like a nutter between the crag and Valkrum Zone killing Tremor Rams, make sure you go out as empty in space as possible because I had over 20 Ram Horns selling for 1000 a piece on Leviathan, and 15 Ram Skins going for 500 a piece. Any way after about an hour of Tremor Ram mutilation, I get the pop at H8 along the mountain wall.

Bolstered by my good fortune I legged it to La Theine Plateau for Lumbering Lambert.

I was there for no more than half an hour killing Battering Rams between H9 - I9 when to my amazement there was Lumbering Lambert on my Wide scan. So I hot foot it over only to see it claimed by some random guy that had just gone by me 2 minutes before on a Chocobo (I know because he Checked me as he passed). To say I was pissed was an understatement, especially when you get the emote /em grins roguishly at <t>. Anyway, I put that behind me and cracked on for another 3 hours killing Battering Rams. No pop, so I called it a night.

The next day I spawned on La Theine so I thought, what the hey and started killing Battering Rams again, when a LS member said they were looking for Rampaging Ram, so after imparting my word of wisdom on how i got it the night before, he got Rampaging Ram about an hour after starting, and came over to La Theine and helped my cover the area, 2 Sub RNG's help take the load immensely, and after killing Battering Rams for and hour and half, Lumbering Lambert popped by the Trees at J9.

WE are going back tonite to try get Lumbering Lambert for him, i will update once we get him his horn.

Good luck to you all.

Was out farming rams with a my friend Madtown (57RDM) and this guy popped. I'm 57 SAM at the time.
I had already done the purple belt quest but Mad had not so I ran up and started fighting. Took him down in 4 hits with one Tachi: Junpu at 1117 dmg.
Piece of cake.

I read a lot of posts and I thought I'd share my experience to those looking to do the Purple Belt Quest:

1st off I honestly think the only PH for both Rampaging Ram, And Lumbering Lambert are the southern Ram pops. Given the NM spawn location, and the pop time after kills.

2nd: Rams or NM will pop almost exactly 4:20 in game time after you kill them.

3rd: Make friends with those in the Area. I talked to a JP ninja that was killing rams in LTP, and turns out he just wanted materials for synth, so i traded him what I had from camping Rampaging Ram, and ended up having 2 sets of wide scan, to cover the entire pop area, and 100% claim rate on Battering Ram pops.

4th: Be patient. I got Rampaging Ram 1 hr after arriving and clearing out PH. (Also killed Haty at H-8 95% moon 13:45 firesday for anyone interested) However, I have since been camping Lumbering Lambert for over 3 hours. I have not missed a single Battering Ram pop since then, so whoever tells you its on a 90 minute timer is lying. I have not yet seen Lumbering Lambert pop. I know between me and this JP ninja I've teamed with, that we have claimed all Ram pops, and are covering the entire area, and its taking a LOOOOONNNNGGG time.

5th: Go prepared. do not show up with a level 4 bst sub and expect to see/claim the NM. It is a pretty large area and I cannot cover the entire area alone with wide scan as 56MNK/24RNG. If you can arrange it have something to do in the downtime between 10 minute pops.

6th: If your are a monk, realize that though you likely do not need the purple belt, or perhaps even the brown belt, you cannot obtain your best waist armor without camping these NM's.

I'll update when I finally kill this NM, because I am not sleeping until I do. too many favorable conditions at the moment with 100% ram claim rate for me to log lol.

EDIT: ok, so i fell asleep after 7 hours of camping this NM with my JP partner. I did not have a chance before maintenance to camp him, so I'm hoping to snag him soon after. as for the above poster talking about how he incredibly solo'd it as 57 sam, WHY!? i personally do not want to hear about people's "ZOMG I SAW A RAMZOR AND WTFPWNED HIM AS (level) (job)!" It has already been established that any job at 40 can solo him with ease. Please add something useful.

Edit2: ok after 1 pop cycle I tagged and bagged LL. he popped in the ruins for me at H-9. GL to all.

This is an informative post. I've had this quest active for nearly three years, and reading this gave me new resolve to get it done.

Here's my experience:

The biggest point of annoyance about this quest is that you're not only competing with others trying to complete it, but people farming the ram skins/horns and lanolin cubes. Plus, there's the occasional group of level 75's hunting Bloodtear Baldurf and Steelfleece Baldarich.

About a year ago, a linkshell friend helped me get the Rampaging Ram. I've had the Rampaging Horn sitting in storage since then. I've tried multiple times to get Lumbering Lambert to pop, with no luck.

Determined this time, I went on my 64 White Mage and subbed my level 1 Ranger so that I could have widescan. I hate to say I've tried tracking down Lambert more than once without it. Using it was invaluable. No wonder I never succeeded until now.

I spent four hours last night, killing each pair of Battering Rams at every 10 minute pop. I got a handful of Lanolin Cubes to vendor for nearly 700 gil a piece.

After I killed another two Battering Rams, I spotted Lumbering Lambert in my widescan. I can confirm that the spawn time was indeed 4:20 Vana'diel time. I set my widescan to track him and went running. He was in I-9, on the path between the ruins and the Crag of Holla, at the edge of the mountains. I had just seen a high-lvl Blue Mage go running toward the Crag, which had me in a panic. What if I spent the last four hours camping this ram, just for someone else to get the claim?

But when I got there, he was all alone, waiting for me to take him down.

Got my Lumbering Horn, completed the quest, and got the Purple Belt. It's a great Monk belt, but I hate to say that for all the work I went through to get it, I'll never use it. I only play mages, Summoner, Bard, etc. Anything that casts spells or songs, or else it doesn't hold any allure for me.

Sometimes I really wish they would give us a choice of quest rewards in this game.

Anyway, it's another quest cleaned up (and one I've been wanting to finish). Maybe it'll give me Tenshodo fame?

Fought this yesterday with my DRG friend.

Was just out from the night before killing rams, hadn't even killed one the next morning and I saw him standing out in front of the craig! I shot him with my bow and began kiting him since I saw a load of gilsellers real close... think they had some funny ideas lol.

My friend gets a tele and we take him out pretty easily (DRG and SAM both 75) Was a fun fight though and I was finally able to get my horn for my Brown Belt. One more item to go and I can sport one for my mnk!!

Yeah, i soloed this today, i did max out my healing breaths and used 2 hour but did it, it was annoying that a 70ish whm was cheering me on and not helping and obviously wanting me to die so he could take it. Either way it rocked

Me as a level 16 thief, a level 17 whm, a level 16 monk (who just kept orcs of our back, and a level 29 rdm found this guy. Every once and a while we'd sleep him, and then rest. Eventually we wittled his health down to 0 and were'm happy yo see no worthwhile reward >.>.

I was in La Theine farming ram skins for leather crafting. Killed the first ram upon arrival, waited the standard 10 minute pop time. Turned around, and there he was. I voke and get claim. I was level 30war/thf. I was doing really well, getting alot of crit. hits (one for 356, that I'm uber proud of)). And he started going to town on me. Got me down to about 30% health and I two-houred. Got him down to 10% before he wiped me out. I asked a whm friend who was in Windy to come out and raise me. Spent 10 minutes waiting for him, while Lambert stood over my dead corpse. He got out and raised me. I turned around and a 72rdm had him claimed. I was like NUUUUU. He invited me to party with him and took all the hate while I beat Lambert down, in my weakened state. I got Lumbering horn. If you read this, thanks again Saiph on Fairy for your help!
no lottery spawn?

I'm on the Ragnarok server. This guy popped up for no reason just now in G-9. I wasn't looking for him or killing any sheep/rams, I just... ran into him. There was an unusually high amount of battering rams roaming about lately, though; I don't know if that has anything to do with it. But I guess this guy spawns even without "lottery".

Along time ago, as soon as I hit level 18 from the dunes, I headed back to sandy, to change to whm and start leveling my sub.. I saw lumbering lambert and tried avoiding him, but it was too late, he saw me ( deleveled ) and to make a long story short.. I came back at level 60 and camped him for 5 hours.. and ripped his horn off his head.. :)
Drops a lot of shit

I got the claim today as a 58NIN/THF. This guy was extremely easy as can be expected at my level, but that's not why i'm posting... This guy dropped 5 ram skins, 3 ram horns, and the lumbering horn....

I have never seen anything drop so many items at once.
Took him today
# Jun 22 2006 at 6:31 PM Rating: Decent
I fought the lambert today as my 39whm/blm and won, took lots of stoneskin and when he used berserk he blew right through the skin. so slow and paralyze were a big help
it's a strong NM for a PLD 32
# May 15 2006 at 9:58 AM Rating: Decent
i fight this NM this morning with PLD32/WAR16 thinking i can beat him, but this NM has a lot HP and i can't beat him.

I use during this combat Cure II and my 2hr(Invincible), but i only hit him until 50% of his total HP :(

LS member who was on his way to Sandy from the dunes for the 1st time saw him and asked the LS what it was. He's rather new, just got his subjob so I got a tele and headed there to kil the NM. Easily beat him as a 72Drk/Thf, hardly ever hit me. Got the horn.
omg i quit !!!!

lets get this right. quest - needs 2 horns - can i get them ? no is the answer. why ? because everytime i go out looking they are both being camped by ignorant lvl 70+. what chance have i got ? none!! make quest NMs spawnable by quest holder or quest party ffs. either that or dont make it repeatable. 3 weeks of camping and nothing.
omg i quit !!!!
# Nov 23 2006 at 8:02 PM Rating: Decent
These quests aren't repeatable and the reward, purple belt, is worth a TINY amount of gil...

Can you get the drop even if you havent started the quest yet?

Btw, if all Battering Rams are place holders then the spawn area above is incomplete. I've seen Rams spawn almost as far north as E-7.

Edit: Answering myself:

1. Yes, you can get the drops without having started the quest.

2. Are both rams placeholders? _Probably_ not. Judging from the map above and my own observations only the southern ram is a placeholder. This is _probably_ also true for Rampaging Ram.

Saw him for the second time. First time I saw him he destroyed me as a WHM36/BLM18. This time I was a WHM45/BLM22, and much more prepared after beating the tar out of Rampaging Ram (which I tried to nuke down and then had to Benedict at the end since he hits hard and has 8 million HP)> So to wear him down I would Flash>>Stoneskin, repeat and beating him down with my AF hammer (may have thrown Dia II out once, not sure). Took a hella long time but I eventually wore his 10,000,000 HP butt down. I also swear he went into some sorta weird hyper-mode at the end.

Oh yeah, some low lvl ran up and called for help from an orc (?) aggro about halfway through the battle. I felt bad since I had to say "Umm, this is a bad time", and I'm a WHM45...
(A Passing 45ish RNG took the orc down though)
