I camped these 3 all day (barricader, wallbreacher, and thousandarm). I got a total of 6 spawns so far from each and got 6 obelisks, which seems to be a 100% drop... but no shield, no strikes, and no belt. These items aren't even worth that much. Obviously my luck sux or the drop rate randomizer has it out for me.

Just reactivated my character recently. Used to kill these 2 all the time and get nothing. Checked the Ghelsba area and saw it was empty so I ran in, killed these 2, and what do ya know? nothing again lol. Run out and to the left, kill Thousandarm and get a Plate Belt. Take the trip to the Outpost and kill the Panzer but the NM doesnt come out afterward. So I just go back to Barricader and Wallbreacher and wait. 1st one pops about an hour 10 mins after i killed them before... kill him quick and finally get a Lantern Shield! Never kept up with the exact numbers but I mustve been like 0/20 if not more. In a good mood on my way out, I head to Yughott Grotto real quick and there's Ashmaker standing around waiting to die. Drop him and get the Hermit's Wand. All in all a pretty good run if I get any of it to sell. I'm Bloodfeast on the Phoenix server if you're in need of the shield and would like to make a deal.

they pretty much are in every aspect besides there being able to be checked as not "impossible to guage" every other aspect: long respawn time, above average items, that u cant craft, and have horrile drop rates (for me at least) and there names exist no where else in the game, so they might as well be classified as "NM's"

I camped this guy last night. I got the shield on the second kill. I went afk for awhile, so I figured I'd wait till the next spawn, nothing.

why all the talk of such bad rate on these guy
Im 4/25 on the shield and 3/25 on the h2h and I don't have TH2 but almost always fight them with TH1 and both are up to 70k or more on Pandy last I checked

1/87 on these two machines together. 0/12 with treasure hunter. Someone said try killing them with a job around the lvl they are, so i came back as another job and gonna try again. Need the shield for an equip and none in ah ><

To answer a couple of questions.
1. They spawn a little over every hour.
2. My drop luck 0/7 on both. A few fire crystals that's about it. (20RDM/10BLM)
3. Locatec in the tunnels. When you enter Ghelsba, go to the right and go up the hill. Make another right and go down the next hill over the wooden bridge and back up. Go around the right of the fence and you'll see a tunnel straight in front of you. Go through the tunnel. On your map you should be heading east. You'll exit the tunnel onto a ramp. Head left and down the ramp which will lead you into another tunnel. At the end of this tunnel is where they pop. There are two bats inside the tunnel. There's only one way in and one way out. Hope this helps.

I dropped in on him the other day. Won the pop, got the shield. 1/1. Course I also Lotted something at 917 and dice rolled a 998 that day too.... musta been a lucky day for me :)

i have camped these 2 (what i thought were nm's) orcish barricader and orcish wallbreacher, numerous times and i have yet to see a drop....they must be extremely rare?

The spawn time for these two is about 1 hour i dont camp them but everytime i am in Sandy i run biu and normally they are there so i kill them and go on my merry way..... as for the drops they are pretty rare drops... Wallbreatcher who drops the Strike Bagks is the more common drop.. Barricader on the other had drops the Lantern Shield (+5 attack) is alot rarer the sheild currently runs about 120k on the Titan server and i am 12/20 on the shield and 16/22 on the bagks

I have a far less interesting theory on these guys. On the mob list these don't come up as NMs, so maby they are just regular mobs (but one of a kind), and they just spawn after a certain amount of time after their last death. I killed them both once (no drop), waited half an hour (no pop) got bored and left. Came back an hour later and they were both back. Killed them both again (no drop).

Ok, ive camped these guys a few times and have come up with a theory of possible triggers. On the ramp that leads back to the main part of Ghelsba, an orc normaly spawns there. Its either a Fodder, Grappler, or Mezmeriser. If you kill htese guys, <all three> then the Mobs seem to spawn. I dunno if this is just a coincidence with the timer or what but it seems to have worked for me. Im currently 0/20 for both of them [/sigh]
Order of appearance:
Orc Fodder>>Grappler>>Grappler = Barricader
Orc Grappler>>Mesmerizer>>mesmerizer = Wallbreacher
Like i said, this is just a theory of mine, Ill need to do some more testing with it.

Ive camped this guy and now im at 1/4 i normally camp it at the begining of lighstday and it normally comes out at random times.Also i think u need 2 kill the bats in the cave for triggers im not sure though. shield going at 85-90k on Odin server.

The bats have nothing to do with this mob as I have seen it pop a dozen diffret times for me and never once thought about killing the stupid bats in the tunnle

0/20+ on this drop. been camping it since i was a lvl 17 war, and never gotten the drop. makes me very angry. thinkin about going back and subbing th1, maybe then i can get a drop.

Another side note, Kujata server has a THF/RNG botting this. walked up and saw 4 in this bazaar for 100k a piece. so everytime i camp it now, i just train a bunch of orcs in, maybe i can mess him up a bit. i just wait till pop, use Circle Blade, and find the Machine i'm looking for. still, now 1/36 on baghnakhs, and 0/33 on shield.

I'm 1/2 on this one and 0/2 on the wallbreacher. Lantern shield goes for about 55k on lakshmi. I also got on my first try ^^

Are these two NMs still in this game? I've been standing in the area for well over an hour now.....probably over an hour and a half, and they havn't spawned....given their horrible drop rate I'm about ready to give it up, anyone know?

The Drop rate doesnt seem so bad...
I went as THF30/RNG15, found both of these and camped for a few hours. Came out 1/3 on each and 75k richer in total. I have TH1, and for what its worth a 4leaf if you're superstitious...

Lantern Shield goes for 50 k on my server, and I ended up just buying one after awhile.
Me and my friend decided to camp this and the Breacher, by taking turns at them. I'd camp for 2 hours, he'd come back after 2, and all that (Basically so we could get stacks of other items).
I am 0/15 on this guy, 0/15 on the Breacher. Same thing with my friend, only he's 0/20 for both (With TH1).
Annoying little..grr. Horrible drop rates.

This and breacher have horrible drop rates (im currently 1/25 on wallbreacher and 0/26 on barracader)... which they almost make up for with quick spawn times (:30 to 1:30 from my experience), the ability to camp 2 "NM's" at once, and being strangly uncamped.
I stand at the exit of the tunnel (which deters most would-be campers even if im afk), and play a game on my other new, flat, shiny PS2 and check in on this every few minutes.
If you get competition... good luck. I'd recommend having provoke should some come along, im quick with my darts but thats usually not quick enough against those with provoke.
If you need something to do to pass the time between spawns there are plenty of Chieropetras (spelling?) around which frequently drop Bat Wings (great for Sandy Fame) and Toadstools to train in the tunnels to the SW (i get about a half a stack of sleepshrooms every time i clear the tunnels).
If you find camping lizzy for hours on end frantically scrolling through wide scan screens only to have 4 people reach the NM b4 you frustrating, stressful, boring, and unrewarding... this can be a nice alternative for a while.
Deglesh also spawns nearby to the south... but drops are pretty worthless and long spawntime... i'd only kill if u want to check him off ur list.

I'm about 5/85 on them, 4 of thoughs were shields. I find this the best way to make gil not many people know about them and camp them they have a low spawn time of a hour- a hour and a hafe there is that outher nm close by that hass a 100% drop rate of a 1k item and I can farm about 2k-3k betwine the spawns. The rate is realy bad so you shouldnt realy try w/o TH1 or TH2 shield sells for about 50k in sandy and 60k in Jeuno and btw i go as a 40WAR/THF and it takes about 3 hits to kill them w/o SA.

I must have killed this thing at least 40 times. Everytime Im in the area I check in, and its usually there uncamped. Today was one of those days.... and it finally dropped the Lantern Sheild.

I spanked the Barracader on the first try no problem and I am a level 19 War. First frop was a Fire Crystal I am camping and see if I can try again.

I swear i think NMs just don't like me... camped this one and the wallbreacher all day with TH2 not a single drop... that's 0/5 for barricader, and 0/4 for the wallbreacher... and everytime i camp lizzy i get nothing as well... >.< am 0/6 for it too

i was walkin along mindin my own buisness with my lvl 16 nin/war an i see this orcish barricader alone. I think to myself "hmm wonder y i havent seen this mob before??" so i check it, reads (tough) i decide with utsusemi i could prolly take but.... it slaughters me i barely get half its kife down i was soo pissed. Now i see its a NM.. wow what a n00b

Actually it could read tough.... its not "technically" a NM, its just a rare spawning, slightly harder, normal spawn, same thing with wallbreacher. (also all NMs can be checked after you've defeated them once, tho the nin obviously hadn't beat the barricader, but as i said, its just a big scary normal spawn)

Not true. Notorious Monsters will never check as anything but "Impossible to gauge!" You are correct that this is not a Notorious Monster, but simply a rare-spawning monster with a valuable or quest-related item, like Stroper Chyme or De'Vyu Headhunter. I call them named monsters to differentiate.

oh really? can't check NMs ever eh? how come first time i fought warchief vatgeit (or w/e he's called) he was impossible to gauge... then when i fought him again with my lvl 30 whm he was easy prey?

I was waiting for this to appear last night, as I'd really like a decent shield. I was with a friend who I'd just helped kill Thousandarm Deshglesh, so we were standing in the canyon just chatting till it appeared. Another character appeared suddenly (logged in right on the spot) and cast Dia into thin air. The Barricader then faded into view and it had been hit by the spell - before it was even THERE!
Yeah, guess what. It was a Japanese player. He said something afterwards, probably "sorry". I was very annoyed by it, not least because he hit the damn thing before it spawned!!

I seriously doubt he was sorry. I don't ever camp this because someone is always clock camping this mob. Always Taru WHMs and usually jp players. And they always rub it in your face when they steal it from you.

This one was an Elvaan White Mage I believe. Not sure what he said, but there wasn't much I could do about it. It's very annoying to have this happen to you. I have wanted this shield for absolutely ages (to actually use for my Red Mage, not to sell) but I can't afford the 33,000g it currently goes for on my server.
I have spent some time camping the Barricader (not for long, maybe 2 hours on 2 occasions) and it's not really camped on my server. There are the odd few people who pop by, see you waiting and then leave, but the majority of the time, I was alone.
I, like many, thought the Japanese were mostly kind, helpful and always willing to help out. This game changes my mind. Most I have seen are selfish, unwilling to help and ignorant. I was once lost in an area without a map and asked someone for directions. He kept saying "I don't speak English" in auto-translate, so I thank him and walk off. 5 mins later, I see him chatting in English and Japanese to some other guy!! They are also very frugal with Raises and information, prefering to keep things to themselves.
Don't get me wrong, some Japanese players are wonderful and a pleasure to play with - clever and good at partying - but there seem a lot of bad apples out there right now...

Or... he could have just been invisible and spamming the Dia macro... but :shrugs: I only do it all the time... I have no idea what I am talking about

You can solo them at 18, I'm not sure if you can do it with all jobs, but you can definatly do it with MNK. This is how I'm camping them right now and I'm 1/1 on Barricader, and 0/4 on Wallbreacher.
0/1 on him but it was empty there!

On Carbuncle neither of these monsters are camped very much. I had just got there and it spawned no one was camping it so i killed it. no drop though :P
Fear Nothing, because it's pretty damn scary!

So i've gotten TH from thf, and in all my attempts to get the drops from these NMs they've never dropped anything, ever (with the exception of the 20 odd gil). Between the Barricader and the Breacher, I'm sitting at 0/31 drops/kills. Is there something special you have to do to get the drop, or am i just really REALLY unlucky?
You're just really unlucky, I've gotten 4/5 on H2H and 5/8 on this one and my THF is 10, so I don't sub it. So ya, like I said, you're just unlucky...

I just got real lucky, I guess. I was in Ghelsba Outpost for the first time, trying to find an entrance to Yughott Grotto so i could get me key for the Kazham Airship pass. I got lost in my wandering and found this little tunnel with both of these guys in it (Wallbreacher and Barricader). they both conned as Easy to my 24THF/10MNK (too lazy to level sub), so I took them on. got the Lantern shield form one, and a fire crystal from the other. Had no idea what the shield was...might have dropped it if I hadn't checked on here. Glad I didn't (oh, and I still haven't found the Grotto).

These are decent items that are very hard to get. This mob spawns in only ONE place, ONE at a time, every 1 - 1.5 hours... Plus the drop on this is kinda tough...
TH1 will help as neither of these two items are rare, and they aren't ex either so you can carry more than one if you are lucky enough to get more than one.
Ive got the strike bagnsmkankaknanshas I just need the freaking shield... so if anyone on Shiva is chilling here waiting to try to get the strikes and happen to get the shield... I'll trade you...
