Twinkling Treant Picture

The "Twinkling Treant" was part of a post-Christmas 2003 event. Each server that killed all of the treants gained the ability to teleport from their home city to any outpost to which they had previously made a supply run.

Does anyone remember what Job Twinkling Treant had... if it even had a Job?
Somewhere out there, there is a road with 2 signs on it. One says "No Trespassing". The sign right next to it says "FREE KITTENS".

lots of ppl asking if their server has completed the quest - and plenty of answers - EVERY server has the ability!! =P

You speak to a guy who is in charge of it for your home country! The guy in san D'Oria is near the gate in Northern Sandy...dont know about other cities, but I dont have to =P lol

You gotta pay an amount which depends on the region you're going to, and also if your city is still in charge of the region...you can also tele back from outpost to home city! ^^

You must have completed the supplies quest for the region though, and also some areas have a level restriction on them as to who can tele ; ;

I'm 99% sure about this, but I can't say with complete certainty:

All but 1 or 2 of the servers completed this event (don't remember those that did not; there's probably a thread buried in the forums here somewhere). However, I believe SE was a little surprised at the failure (**cough laziness cough**) on those servers that didn't complted it, and ended up granting the feature to all servers, regardless if this was completed or not.

This event was loooooooonnnngggg! It took a few days of these things being attacked constantly before they finally died. I fought against the one in S. Gustaberg on Leviathan, but we made little progress (seemingly). I logged in a few days later to find out from my LS at the time that they were dead.

Hope this helps clear up some of the questions and sheds some light on this.

they gave the teleport ablity from your outpost to all the servers as a job well done sort of act. it would only seem logical for them to transfer this ability to new servers when they are started. noobs. doesnt any ever read the INFORMATION section of FFXI, jesus christ. primates.

After you complete the supply run, who do you talk to to be teleported? Are they free of charge? Since I'm making this post, no point in not asking if Odin has cleared this. I don'tt know since I joined in june 2004.

I didn't join until June 2004; did Caitsith get the teleport system? And even if you don't know about Caitsith, which person is the one who gives you the teleport in each town? After all, if I know that, I can check to see if the system is in place myself!

yes it's completed on pandemonium, you don't talk to a moogle to outpost warp, you're job must be lvl 20 or higher (and of course the supply run must be done before that weeks tally), the guy to warp you in bastok is in metal works, the one in windy is in port i think, not sure about sandy, i love outpost warping, it's all i do to get anywhere, forget that bird! lol

oh, and depending on your job lvl, youre restricted to warp to certain areas.
i started playing when it was out on ps2, never even heard of this quest haha, oh well, i love it anyways

You don't. This notorious monster was part of the Christmas "Gift" S-E had set up for players. The trick was to kill all of the Twinkling Treants on the server and they would setup a teleportation system for us. Ifrit server treants were all killed, so now there is one person in each major city that will teleport you to a zone where you delivered supplies to the outpost.

So in other words....don't camp them. ^^

- Assuming they meet the necessary requirements, other players, parties, and alliances will be able to attack any Twinkling Treant you are engaging without being asked for help. These treants do not drop items.

My story

More information: When you talk to a Moogle in the wilderness, he simply says "You have to do something about these trees, kupo!" or something like that, and that's all he says. Then your character is affected by a deleveling status ailment, which is visible. This is the best indicator that you are "participating". This effect runs out after... I don't know, 30 minutes Earth time? Anyway, if you talk to the Moogle again, he says "Are you done fighting trees, kupo?" or something like that, and he automatically removes your level restriction status effect and you stop participating.

In North Gustaberg, the level restriction was Level 20. There was a Twinkilng Treant who roamed/warped all around the east side of that area.

I helped fight the Treants last night. I was Level 18. Since Treants are weak against fire (yet I'm not a Black Mage), I bought a Fire Sword and tons of accessories (like Sardonyx Rings) to enhance my fire and strength. I ended up with +10 Fire ability. Even so, I was doing only about 10-20 HP of damage per hit. Occasionally I'd do a Red Lotus Blade weapon skill, which would provide extra fire damage, and in many cases would contribute to a skillchain, since our group was working together pretty well.

I fought with an alliance of about 14 other people last night. They were all about Level 20. Our blows on the treant seemed to range roughly from 0 to 28 HP, not including weapon skills and skillchains. We fought for several hours Earth time. The treant's HP didn't seem to budge. Its HP probably went from 60% to 55% after several hours of pounding on it.

The Twinkling Treant has a move called Pinecone Bomb or something that does like 150 HP damage to everyone around him. And he's not shy to use it. He probably uses it every 2-3 minutes on average. He also has another weaker group-damage move called Arbor Storm or something similar. One of his moves puts everyone to sleep for several turns, despite our efforts to resist it with Barsleepra and Spicy Crackers. Another one of his moves adds the effect of "weight" to your character such that your character runs slowly and can't catch up with him if he decides to move somewhere. This is annoying when trying to coordinate skillchains. He can also use Drain to cure himself... as much as 150 HP, that I've personally experienced... talk about adding insult to injury.

Another very annoying ability is the treant's ability to Warp. Every once in a while, when we had been fighting him for a while, he would just disappear and appear somewhere else halfway across the map. This was particularly annoying in North Gustaberg because sometimes he would appear on the hill, two levels up in some cases. Luckily we occasionally had a Ranger with us to Scan for him to find him quickly.

We all died probably 20 times helping fighting the treant over the course of several hours. You don't lose EXP if you're participating, but it's still annoying because you lose all your positive status effects like Protect, and you have to run back to the Moogle to get your protection, thenrun back to the Treant, and then when you finally reach him he warps somewhere else. Grr.

Anyway, I was feeling really proud of myself since I thought I contributed so much... buying expensive weapons and armor at the AH and what not. I was 1 out of 14 people, and together after several hours we decreased a single treant's life by about 5%. All this happened last night.

Then, today I get online and find out that all the Twinkling Treants on our server (Valefor) are dead! Thanks to Japanese players. I didn't even believe it at first, but then I noticed that Moogles are no longer there. The only way I can see how it's possible is... maybe you can fight Treants without talking to the Moogle. By not talking to the Moogle, you would bypass the level restriction, with the unfortunate side effect of losing experience any time you die... unless you have a high-level Raise spell. But this would allow characters to fight treants at Level 75.

Oh well! At least I contributed... even if it took me several hours to reduce a single treant's HP by about 5% divided by 14 (people)... I contributed what I could!
RE: My story
# Dec 31 2003 at 6:53 AM Rating: Default
There were 12 Treants on each server. 6 of which you had to fight at maximum level of 20, 4 could be fought at level 30, and the remaining 2 could be fought at level 50.

Since the treants are all of the same strength, this made the level 20 cap ones the hardest by far. I would say it takes about 50 people 12 hours to kill one of the level 20s.

For comparison, it took about 20 people, 5 hours to kill a level 30 cap. I expect the level 50 one could be done by a single alliance in 2-3 hours.

There was no cheating these guys, you could only fight with the level cap on, so large linkshells of dedicated people got involved on each server. The level 20 treants probably caused thousands of "deaths" among the people fighting them.
RE: My story
# Dec 30 2003 at 2:07 PM Rating: Default
When I tried to attack the Treant on Asura without talking to the Moogle first, I was told I couldn't. I think you have to talk to the Moogle and participate in order to be allowed to attack the Treant.

I was able to fight it with out the level cap. Seraph server and I was lvl 18. I guess because I was under the level cap. Wish I had it on though, died once and never forgot it again.
Teleport Service
# Dec 30 2003 at 12:14 AM Rating: Default
For those of you wondering what the purpose of the new Twinkling Treants is... once they are defeated, a new teleport service will be opened!

The two official news articles on the treants and new teleport service are found here:

Please refer to the above links for official information, but below I will give my unofficial personal summary. (I hope my understanding is accurate.)

1. There are more than 10 Twinkling Treants throughout Vana'diel.
2. Anyone can start attacking a Twinkling Treant, even if other people are attacking it.
3. You can talk to a Moogle to acquire "the right to participate", which will "become invalid after a certain amount of time." If you are participating, then you will not lose experience if you die from battling a Twinkling Treant.
4. There will be a level restriction while fighting the Treants.
5. Once all of the Twinkling Treants are defeated on a server, a teleport service will be made available on that server.
6. To use the teleport service, you must complete the "refueling quest" for that region after the teleport service is opened, and you must be a certain minimum level (region-dependent).
7. For a "usage fee," the teleport service allows you to teleport "from the Outposts in each region back to the players' country of origin, and from the country out to the outposts in each region."
8. See the article for the names and locations of the Teleport Service dispatch NPC's.
