Vana'diel Bestiary: Panzer Percival  

Hey all, just wanted to say I soloed this mob easily with my level 28 BST. Used the beetles nearby for pets and had to resort to a few juggies. Thing has crapload of hp but it wasnt very strong offensively. No drop though >< although I have gotten it twice out of four kills before.

could i solo this at rdm33/blm16?

i fought him once just for the axe and all i had to do is kill all the other beetles around the area. maybe i was lucky but i got him so =P

recently all of my FFXI pics were erased (most of which were NMs i had camped/killed just for a photo, and i had about 40-50) so i'm in the process of replacing each one with a Panzer Percival pic. i've only just started farming funguars near his L-6/7 spawn, and after i kill em all i check for Panzer at both spawns and clear out the beetles. in the past couple of days i've gotten him to spawn 3 times, all of which took about 30 mins. i've gotten the axe only on the third kill and it sold for 65k. he doesn't seem to be overcamped (or camped at all) most the time.

oh yeah, i'm a RDM50/THF25 and the last time i fought him i took exactly 168 damage WITHOUT any buffs at all. his defense seems kinda high and takes me about 3-4 minutes to kill him.

how come neckchoper is so cheap on your servers its 400k on unicorn =(

Decided to hunt Panzer on my 39Thf/19Mnk today on Odin as my War had just hit lvl 20, so I figured rather than spend 60k at the AH for a Neckchopper I'd get one direct from the source.

I'd read on other sites that he's a lottery pop so killed 60 Stag Beetles in L-7, nothing happened so I started using Flee and running between J-5 and L-7. Panzer was there and waiting at J-5 when I ran back up there from L-7 the second time.

It was a LONG fight even though I got Sneak Attack in at the start, but fortunately with just Monk's Dodge up I managed to finish him off with about 300/671 HP remaining (the Stag Beetle that linked did more damage than Panzer to be honest).

So after a 2 hour session I got the Neckchopper first attempt (and a beetle jaw). From chatting to others in Jugner it appears that on Odin at least a lot of people hang around the 2 spawn points whilst waiting for a party invite, but nobody seems to actively camp this drop.

I'm not absolutely sure he's a lottery pop though, because when I found him there were four other Stag Beetles in the same area, and there are usually only four there anyhow. Just to be safe I'd advise killing them anyway just in case they really are placeholders. Hope this helps :)

Out of the countless hours I have camped this guy, I have only had 2 spawns, so I am 0/2 on this NM. The first time I got him I was a lvl33 PLD everything was going good, I got him down to half health and then 2 other beetles linked on me. Well I waited for the last possible second and hit my 2hr when I was at 24HP. I finally killed him and got the neckchopper, but my inventory was full. So I scrambled to drop items to clear room to get the axe. Well my 2hr wore off and both beetles landed critical hits and I died before I could clear out enough room to pick up the axe and lost the drop.

Second time I got him I was riding thru pn my way to Jeuno and figured I would check it out, he was just sitting there unclaimed. Killed him and no drop.


The spawn rate on this guy isrediculous, SE really needs to do something about this. I have camped this guy for over 4 hours before with no spawn, and thats with clearing out all the place holders in both spawn points. Has this NM switched to a lottery spawn now or something? I'm gonna camp this guy one more time and if I don't get the drop then I'm done.

just spent a few hours campin this on remora while lfp, popped twice no drop :(.got prt invite but dam party disbands aftr less then a hour, and i less than 1k tnl. so i decide to head to jugner and giv Panzer another go,i was killin place holders for around 1hour 20mins and i run over use sneak attack and attack another beetle, i noticed i didnt deal as much damage as i usually do and realise it was panzer, since i was goin to log aftr this fight i used Mighty Strikes and owned him! got the neckchopper also ^^ 80k in Remora. sure wuda been nice to hav back when i was lvl20. my advice is to camp this, i had little to no competiton all day and claimed it evry time it popped, much betr than standin around bside 5 or more other campers in Valkurm Dunes waitin for VE to pop wit h little to no chance of claiming it nevr mind getting the drop. Something funny i found out about panzer. I was at one spawn point waiting for him killing beetles, and my fiancee was on her character at the other spawn point doing likewise. He loaded at her spawn point, and she killed him. 10 minutes later, he loads again at my spawn point.

Moral of the story..........panzer is weird.

Noooooo!!!! 2 hours camping it when it finally spawned. Killed him but only got a beetle jaw. I guess its always best to have a thf... but i need to level it!!! :( Anyways better luck next time.

i wouldnt camp him if your under lvl 35.
i was 32 drg and got linked by all other beetles round him, unfortunatley i died but went to h.p got 44 rdm and a tele holla > chocobo got to jugner and he was still waiting for me to smoke his ***.
i got neckchopper with my rdm.
i cant believe no one took him while i had time to change jobs and tele back lmao....

How much is the Neckchopper worth at Jeuno AH?
