Poisonhand Gnadgad Picture

A martial artist who soaks his hands in deadly poison to create fatal weapons from his fists. It’s rumored that those who are susceptible to poison can die from but one strike.

Some/all of the information in this article has been culled from various FFXI guides, and translated by Elmer the Pointy.

just in case u didnt already know this, if u see a NM use his 2hr, especially 100fists, just shadowbind him and move out of range. at level 58 my shadowbind held him for 30-40 seconds roughly. i killed him from a safe disstance with barrage and a sidewinder. oh yea, and with tp over 100, a thf, or anyone using a knife actually can just use shadowstitch. thats what i did, b/c i used my shadowbind to claim him and its a 5min timer, so i just used my dagger ws, (probally the only time ive ever used it).

Seriously I'm 0/11 on Poisonhands...

With this Orc's greed and the chiniese gil seller camping him 24/7 It's ridiculously hard to get that god damn gi I so need for my nin..,

Now wonder the priced got jacked up to 230k on Odin.
I like this guy...

I was PLD52/WAR26 at the time and i was camping all the possible NM in the Davoi area. I had gotten about 4 archer's daggers that day too. So i go to the area where this guy spawns and there was only a MNK camping him. The MNK and i stand there for a bit when a Orcish Warmachine pops and he gets it with his Chi Blast. At this point i'm almost positive imma get him so i get happy but am silenced when t5he MNK defeats the warmachine. Back to spamming Provoke i go when this thing pops and is claimed by the MNK, at this point i'm bashing my head against the wall in anger. The fight lasts awhile and it seems like the MNK is gonna win when all of a sudden i see a black-ish cloud surround the NM a sec. I've seen this before when mobs use their respective 2hour ability and at the time didn't know what his was til i see him hitting that oor MNK non-stop. I tell myself....maybe i should cure the poor MNK but right as i start casting Cure III he drops. I wait about 1min while i recap on what just happened and claim him for myself. To my uber surprise i see, "You find a jujitsu gi on Poisonhand Gnad-whatever." I cried ;;

amusing encounter with him today
was a hume 55war/27thf
within 30 minutes of camping him, he pops
but he pops while im currently engaged with another another orc and i have around 300 hp left
i was pretty far off to the side but he still linked
popped a fish mithakabob and a pear a laut
was doing fairly well til he used his 2hour
being the only person in Davoi at the time, i fled and zoned
healed up, came back and there he was waiting for me
engaged him again
i guess they can use their 2hour so often as well
cuz he didnt use Hundred fists at all during the 2nd fight, making it a very easy fight
dropped only the sitabaki

i then came back aprroximately 2 hours after i had last killed him
killed the orc that was there
Gnadgad was the next pop
this time i was prepared with full hp
used a pear a lait again and engaged him
no worries this time with full hp
when he used his 2hour, used defender and equipped phalanx rings
since no orcs were around, i took the advice posted earlier about running around
after his 2hour was up, started beating on him again
once again, got only the sitabaki

Hate to burst your bubble, but attacking this NM @ lv.45 anything will more than likely result in a horrible, bloody death.

Gnadgad has a bad habit of unleashing his Two-Hour, Hundred Fists, on any hapless adventurer who fights him. As a thief, I imagine Perfect Dodge would balance this, but it's still going to be a sticky fight.

Just a good strategy to monks when he uses 100 fists: counterstance. This will more than easily turn his attack against him. Though i am still 44 on monk, i havnt been able to test my thery, it seems logical ^^;

Just want to clear this up, as it has been before. Counterstance, unless you are at a point where the damage you are taking from the mob is essentially 0, does not help the way you think it might. The counter rate does not raise enough to make the MASSIVE defense drop you get when you use it, worth it. You end up taking much more damage, much more quickly, and die that much faster.

hah check this out.. some chick from china named xaolie (or something like that) on valfor asked me to party with her to kill NMs with her. ( i found out later shes a real **** and sells her gil over the net, but thats besides the point) im was a lvl 50drg/15thf and she was i believe a high 50s low 60whm. well anyway, she tells me in broken english to wait for a pop while she checks on hawkeye (the archer knife guy) and shell be right back, if it pops fight it. well, pop.. im kicking this guys *** baaad... wait.. hundred fists. my hp drops like the hindenberg.. the whole time im telling her to come help fast, "xaolie defeats the orcish cursemaker" WTF so.... basically im lying there dead as hell she rolls up 2 minutes later raises me, goes back kills the archerknife guy wins lot and disbands.. im left with nothing but a bruised ego, and the knowledge of not to farm with people you dont know.. oh and not to fight this guy with out potion untill im a higher lvl

Same thing on my server. Gilsellers are everywhere in FFXI and hopefully SE is doing something about it soon. On my server it's the Fox group and alot of of others, but that is the only group with the same beginning part of their names.
And it is REALLY bad on my server too......Sniper Rings are up to 1 million, the Haubergaun is up to I think 4 million......and thats just the beginning.

Yeah, I have a bunch of people like that on Ramuh. I call them the 'LS' crew because they all has LS in the beginning of their name. Lucky for me though, whenever I decide to camp NMs in Davoi, either myself or someone I meet in the process gets the pop and the drop off the NMs. I guess its just me, but the 'LS' crew has some bad luck if I show up.

# Oct 21 2004 at 5:51 AM Rating: Decent
Yeah hey, Odin has the same problem....LS crew, Gold crew, and Kuang crew. There are a few other crews of gil sellers...all are pieces of crap because all they do is jack up prices so ppl can't afford what they need. Watched emp pin go from 150k to 390k, and jujitsu gi go from 100k to 230k. Wish Squenix would fix that crap. ><

same prob here we have jerrys, zoees, and redapples on ours. but i always claim be fore them ne way. its annoying though because i went to the spook at 5:00 in the morning and i see zooejlwsb standing there and then zooejswsb comes and bows to the other and jlwsb logs and the other stays. and hes a lvl 60 pld and im only a 30/rdm at the time so i just got mad and left. zooes finally got kicked but jerrys r there. and redapples only chop wood and camp 50+ nms. and they r nice so i dont mind them that much, for now....

yea, i think that xaillo(sp) and moonstare work together. also a drg named macos. those 3 are always in davoi. they are not voke-bots tho b/c i have beaten them to gnatdat a few times. they are chinese, i know b/c they always ask me if i am and then reply "i only speak chinese" no matter what i reply.

btw----u can tell who is a gil camper easily. if u r camping against a level 50 (any job) thats only rank 1, thats a pretty good indication. also, they usually use dragoons to hinder your own voking.

I'm a level 40MNK/20WAR (Mithra). Could I take down this guy as a 40 with the help of a 45WHM/BLM (or SMN sub) taru? He should be EM, and I will use my 2hr. Seeing as how I have a back-up healer and he does not I should be fine no? :/

No. He uses hundred fists which would own you, he hit me with a bunch of hits and I am a 71 thf. Also in the area are a lot of orcs and firebelcher and the JPs nearby will ignore you if in trouble with links. I advise you to be 50 or above with help, solo at 60+.
Answer for "Hard or not?"
# Jul 16 2004 at 5:39 AM Rating: Decent
Not at all. All of the Beastman NM drop two different items. One being the easy drop....the second being the more harder and rarer to get drop. In the case with Poisonhand he normally drops the lvl 37 Jujitsu Sitabaki's. So, if thats what your going for go for it. Just make you sure you can beat him and you know what your doing. And who knows..maybe you'll be lucky and get the Gi. I finally got mine after the 25th kill while I was with a friend farming.
Hard or not?
# Jul 15 2004 at 6:39 PM Rating: Decent

Hermit wands is the easy drop on Godbut Ashmaker or something like that. The Priest Robe is the rare drop!

Yah, i just started Ninja 2 weeks ago, almost to
lvl 40 and me and my 73 Thf friend payne are going to camp this sucker. We've had good luck in the past so i'll see how it goes. I'd rather now spend 120k though in Caitsith ;)
Stupid Gi
# Jun 28 2004 at 1:25 PM Rating: Decent
I've camped him the last week for atleast 7 hours each day and out of the week ive killed him about 16-18 times and still no Gi. But he isn't too bad to solo or atleast if your a NIN he isnt. 52 NIN is good enough but still a good fight. If you cant take hits I wouldnt recommend trying to solo him until 54-58 unless you have someone who can heal.

hunting this NM
# Jun 23 2004 at 8:03 PM Rating: Decent
i beet this guy with a party of lvl 30s and one 40 blm. to ensure a victory for us lower lvls i say have a whm , blm, thf, and a mnk.the other two just get whatever will help you. monk needs to use huundred fists at start of fight and shwn he uses it back the thief vokes and uses perfict dodge if you got a good party he sould be dead before the thiefs perfic dodge weres off. ood luck.
spawn time??

Yeah, I would also like to know the spawn time. I have friend who might help me with it, but they want to know its spawn time. Thanks.
RE: spawn time??
# Aug 05 2004 at 12:49 PM Rating: Decent
My orriginal guess for this guys spawn time was 1.5-2 hours, but the other day it took him about 2 hours and 15 mins to spawn, so im gonna reevaluate this to be 1.5-2.5 hours
NM
# Jun 10 2004 at 8:40 AM Rating: Decent
When he uses his 2 hour would using Provoke + perfect dodge make the 2 hour just about worthless since you dodge every hit..
How to avoid hundred fists ownage
# May 31 2004 at 12:20 PM Rating: Decent
Heres a tip for all you NM hunters. For the NMs that blast you with 2hrs like mighty strikes (Steelfleece) or hundred fists (Poisonhand), when they engage their two hour, have a thf voke and run him around with flee in a big circle til it wears off. And wa lah, no ownage. NM hunting was not meant as a solo activity for the most part ;)
RE: How to avoid hundred fists ownage
# Aug 13 2004 at 3:50 AM Rating: Decent
I haven't personally hunted him, so I don't know about what mobs spawn near him...but this seems like a bad idea, as that would just get every orc in the area to link on you, which wouldn't be a good thing if you were really worried about his hundred fists...

Yeah, running this guy would be a bad idea. It works with some NMs, but definately not all. Just having a Thief use Perfect Dodge (or a Pally's Invincible), as Ozwwjd suggested, would probably be the best technique in this case.

As for Steelfleece and Bloodtear, they have the ability to 'pull you in;' so again, that doesn't really work.
Not too hard
