RDM Soloable...
# Jan 04 2005 at 10:33 PM Rating: Default
Soloed this bad boy @72 today...

Cleared the 2 Weespes that spawn in this room, pulled him to the next square room, Gravity/ Bind as much as possible, Bio II and Poison II do all the work...Don't let him come near you, keep Blink + Stoneskin up AT ALL TIMES...Haste helps too with recast times...

Not too hard a fight this way, he don't gain TP to use pollen, at 72 I had ZERO aggro, and it was just a matter of letting him chase me around while Bio + Poison II DoT'ed him to a SLOW PAINFUL DEATH...

Converted once, fight lasted less than 30 minutes...

I solo'd this for a thf friend, with pretty much no gear on... though having some staves and my cloak would've made it easy to do without astral flow, it's easy to do. Also, you can pretty much do this without having to clear the room out. Things to note:

I was lvl 71, you need to be lvl 70+ to do this. Nothing leading up to or in that room will aggro you at 71, except the doll but he only magic aggros. The person popping the NM can stand on the small "island" by the doll without invis/sneak safely, as long as they dont cast magic (again, the doll)

The avatar of choice for the battle is Ramuh, I'll explain why in a bit. When summoning your avatar, do it out of range of the doll and then come to the bridge before the tree with that ??? mark with Ramuh following.

Immediately as you pop the NM, hit Astral flow and Ramuh auto-attacks DFA. He attacks fast, and your prime concern in this fight is making sure he gets no TP to pollen. How do you keep him from getting TP? Ramuh's lvl 70 pact, Chaotic Strike stuns a mob for a pretty long time, especially mobs that are lower in level, and DFA happens to be just that kind of mob. Immediately after ramuh gets the hate, fire Chaotic strike, then as soon as it lands, hit Return and run for the door to the room. (Mind you I said return, not release, return makes the avatar follow you). DFA will stand around like an idiot for a while, stunned by the Chaotic Strike. this is what you want. Go out into the room that's a square loop (right outside the door and get on the far side of the circle, and keep DFA targetted to keep track of his location. Once he gets to the loop start running circles AWAY from him and Ramuh will follow.

Keep this up until your BP timer is ready again, then stop and fire Chaotic Strike again, followed by RETURN and get on the opposite side of the loop from DFA. When he starts to move again, repeat the same tactic, running laps in a circle until your BP timer is ready. It took me 3 strikes to kill him, and he never once got a TP attack off (that means no Pollen *whew*). The main tactic as you can see, is to avoid giving him TP to use Pollen, because he does indeed spam it otherwise. It may take less than 3 shots to kill, or more than 3, it depends on if it lands or not. You may or may not have linked the couple wespes in the room, but releasing your avatar will fizzle the link easily.

And that is how I do it /bow

Duo'd this little fella today.

61 Rdm
60 Smn

Killed the branding iron. Killed the "Death from above"

If I as the smn would have been prepared for the fight (ethers, staves, all that) I could have easily solo'd him. He hits like a girl. >.> Just a lot.

I just changed nations from Sandy to Windy and in the ruins doing a missions when my 60thf/nin buddy sent me a tell saying "HAHA! Sucker =P I'm getting my hornetneedle!!!^^" Oh man that made me soooo mad. Being a 50 thf/nin I wanted this in my offhand so bad to balance the delay on Corair's knife. So naturally I aked "Mind helping me get one?" Then my jaw hit the floor as he said "Sure thing dude, get here as fast as you can..." O_O

So I ran to windy, warped to jeuno and hauled *** to Kazham then the temple. When i got there it took about 3 or 4 Wespes to get my larva, he had gotten his dagger right before i showed up. We then got help from a 74thf/nin and headed to the room. There was a 61(i think)pld helping kill wespes, but he had no invis so it was just the 3 thfs duking it out with Death From Above... EASY!
At one point durring the fight my buddy SATA+Dancing Edged off me for about 1120dmg. I had no problems keeping Utsusemi up, and this thing hits hard, but not much harder than any exp mob I pull w/o shadows up. Took about a couple minutes for this to go down, and I'm LOVING my Hornetneedle <(^.^<)(>^.^)>

Killed this NM pretty easy with my 75 RDM/NIN... The only thing dangerous about this NM is that it keeps doing pollen to recover hp and it hit so god damn fast just like hundred fist...

Best thing to do is debuff the NM with bio II, paralyze, slow, blind then hit his hp down fast as you can since its gonna pollen non stop... Its not that hard to defeat this NM...

Just got this thing last night^^
65/32 nin/whm
Hardest part was the links but overall it was an easy fight. Hell, even the Doll link while i was fighting but evasion saved the day. I was never endanger.
As far as getting the Larva took like 1 1/2 hrs so not too bad i think.
Well Good luck to all that plan to get this dagger^^
Very fast attacking NM

Soloed yesterday as 75WHM/37THF, but I wouldn't recommend anyone but a 70+ RDM to try it (phalanx, stoneskin, haste+fast cast, refresh), or maybe some blink tank with awesome starting evasion (thf/nin, nin/thf). It was a narrow finish as I used my full MP and still lost my last stoneskin - probably cast it 8 times total. It hit me for 30-50 every other swing with some criticals, and this is at 335 defense, 200 evasion, evasion bonus II. Almost used my 2-hour, but it wouldn't have helped much anyway. Came out as ~430/852HP,0/929MP after landing at least 4 hexastrikes.

The NM feels about the same level as a Wespe, or maybe just 1-2 levels higher. What really hurts are that it attacks THREE times as fast and heals itself for twice as much as a Wespe (1386hp vs. ~680hp maximum). It also has a poison move, but as far as I can tell, casting poisona those few times wasn't worth it. The secret to beating it is like with any bee: Blink or stoneskin so it doesn't gain TP off you to regenerate so much HP. As my WHM went after it, the only HP heal the bee landed was a single 1380'ish recovery, but I did have considerable trouble keeping stoneskin up and had to haste myself during the last 2/3 of the battle.

I later went with a 71 paladin/warrior buddy who had savage blade. Savage blade (90-300) + hexastrike (550-750) + light chain damage (550-750) made for a comfortably quick and safe kill. However, since he had the hate most of the time, the NM gained more TP and recovered a total of 3 times during battle: 1386 hp to full, 650'ish hp to full, and 860'ish hp to 1/2 life. It only has about 3k life, so just two renkei rounds finished it anyway.

we owned him last night with a small pt ..
PT = 57 NIN(me) - 65 BLM -53 THF ..
we killed him really fast ..
i think he`s lvl 58~60 tops .. he was hitting me for 70~80 dmg each hit .. i don`t think he`ll use Final sting too .. just sharp sting (which always missed me ) SC distortion .. MB Blizzard 3
he`s dead ..
the worst problem was clearing the room .. so we were lucky to find a high lvl RDM that helped us clear room before fight ..
Good Luck to ya all ..

I soloed this as a lvl 67 RDM today becuase my LS members were busy and I didn't want to have to come back later to get it. So I figured what the hell, might as well take a chance. I had to do a scary convert with 110 mp but i did it immediately after stoneskin and I was using ninja sub so I also Ut. ichi. It was not an easy battle solo because he hits FAST...and I mean FAST! It took me about 20 kills to get the larvae from the Wespes. I guess I was lucky. Thankfully, the room was being cleared by some Japanese farmers farming tonberry coats and lanterns. There were no linking bees right at the spawn point, so it wasn't that bad. I don't think the Doll mob aggros, at least it didn't aggro me at lvl 67. The crawlers do not aggro either (rumble crawlers). I have to say, this dagger is every bit worth the trouble to get it. It only hits for maybe 15-20 dmg or so less than my Wise Wizard Analace but twice as fast. With -en spells it definitely does more dmg overall easily. With haste and -en, this dagger is unreal. A must for RDM! I highly recommend getting it. It's a nice piece of equipment. I'd say 3-4 lvl 55-60's or so can take him and clear the room fairly easy. I would not recommend soling him. I got lucky. No final sting and the farmers clearing the room... I was just feeling a little daring and luckily I lived.

Did this last night with:

64pld
64drg
52whm(me)

We totally thrashed him. What was hard was clearing the room before spawning the NM. Our first attempt the pld accidentally ran right in, and thus agro'd half the mobs in the room. We might have survived, if me and the drg didn't D/C at that exact same moment.

2nd attempt we just carefully, but QUICKLY agro'd them one or two at a time. It's very important to kill all the wespes and tonberries quickly, so they don't respawn and link while you're fighting the NM. Oh, and don't worry about the crawlers, they don't agro. And don't worry about the magic pot in the back.

Once the room is clear, have everyone stand on the steps at the entrace to the room. The person with the Larvae runs down and trades it to the ??? in the roots (the ??? in the center is for Drg AF3) and then book it back to the pt. This way you don't have to waste time killing the magic pot.

Fight lasted about 2 minutes, no huge danger. Kept using its heal ability, but no Final Sting. By the time we killed it, the mobs just outside the room were starting to respawn. That gave me enough time to rest my mp, and teleport us out. Good luck!
Very Easy

I did this tonight with a pt of 61 twice. This guy is a big pushover. He gives you poison when he hits, but that's it. At 61, he hit for 29ish, crits in the 60's. Took us around a minute to kill him both times.
Kinda hard

Okay I got this dagger last night during a Linkshell raid. Here is how it went down:

We camped at the very front entrance of the Temple of Uggalepih. There we killed Wespes, which drop the Rare/Ex item you need. Wespes are bee type mobs which use Final Sting, which can do upwards of 800 dmg. We killed all of them in the area, and then after that we took other mobs to skill up on. The second set of Wespes started to respawn and the first one we killed from the second set dropped the Bee Larvae. Since we had gotten it so quickly and had enough fire power to kill the NM we decided to go to the room that ??? is used to spawn Death from Above.

How to get to the room:
It is the same room where the Drg AF3 is spawned. Since you are camping at the zone, getting to the room is very easy. Follow the path all the way until you come to a T in the path, take a left turn and proceed all the way until you come to a box shaped room with a door on your right. The door on your right is the correct room. I reccommend that your entire party bring Prism powders to invis themselves. Have a high level open the door and proceed into the room. Inside the room there are 3 Tonberries, 4 crawlers, 3-4 Wespes, and a Doll Mob. Clear out the room and head over the little bridge. The ??? you are looking for is the one on the far left as you enter the room. Buff up and heal to full MP, when you are all ready, pop the NM by trading the Bee larvae to the ???.

Death From Above:
He is a Bee NM that is popped using the Bee Larvae obtained from killing Wespes. He is a Bee type that uses all Bee type skills. He did not use Final Sting against my party. He did however use Pollen to recover hitpoints. We killed him fairly quickly and even had a Tonberry Aggro us. The Samurai's Meditated and spammed thier weaponskills, and I was using a sword. It wasn't too hard.

The Dagger drops everytime you kill the NM. Lot on Hornetneedle and warp out, or kill it a second time if you have more than one Bee Larvae in the Party. I would reccommend killing all the mobs that respawn before killing the NM again.

The Dagger Itself:
Very, very, very quick. It is amazing to see this dagger in action. It is perfectly paired with my Corsairs knife which has a high delay. The stats are perfect for Thief, and should allow my TP gain to leap forward, allowing me to Skillchain more often in fights. If you are on the Fenrir server and need some help with the quest, or want to see the dagger in action send me a /tell, I'll be glad to help out.

My Party Setup:
57 Thief/Ninja (Me)
73 Samurai/Warrior (Tanked, due to hate gained from Weaponskills)
60 Red Mage/Black Mage
59 Red Mage/Black Mage
5X Black Mage/White Mage
5X Samurai/Warrior
6X Dragoon/Warrior
56 Ninja/Warrior

The only thing that aggro's in this room is tonberries and Wespe, nothing else touched me. We took out Death with only me and another thf, lvl 60thf and 66thf. He is a pushover as long as you have utsusemi up, he hits really really fast and pretty hard, he also has additional effect poison on his hits...

Forgot to add, Death from above is a forced spawn. You need to get bee larvae to drop off of the Wespe inside the temple and trade it to the ??? on the tree.

it's not a very high level bee, I had a lvl 70 Ninja from my LS tank, and I don't think he had to be healed much if anything.

I wouldn't take a chance without a high lvl tank ~65 though.

Once you're in the area where the NM spawns, you gotta pretty much wipe the whole room of aggro, so bring a long a bunch of friends.
