Vana'diel Bestiary: Blubbery Bulge

I just did PLD Flag, this NM was waiting for me at the well. Thankfully my Sneak was up, I got the soul and Warped out before it aggroed me.

Yep that sure is a Bubbly Bulge :D
Yeah, it does guard that well.. It's just not always there. I was hanging around Purpleflash spawn point (RDM AF1 NM), just to try a solo for something to do...
He doesn't pop and doesn't pop so I run down to the well and find this guy. I got it down to about 15% health before it became a "him-or-me" fight, and I knew he doesn't drop anything worthwhile so I gravity/slept him and got outta dodge.
It's *possible* that this mob and Purpleflash spawn in each other's places. I have never seen the 2 both up at the same time, and that being said, 1 of the 2 is always up.

Blubbery and Purpleflash are not connected. A friend and I had just taken out Poisonhand (no drop) and they left. I decided to take a tour of Davoi (with invisible...don't leave home without it). I came across Blubbery and told my friend about it and he said it didn't drop anything so I left it be. Walked around the corner and there was Purpleflash, whom my friend informed me was for RDM AF1.
So, the 2 can be out at the same time.

I can confirm it as well. It would seem that the Davoi Mush is the placeholder. It's an interesting theory that Blubbery Bulge may be tied to Purpleflash.
We came to the well, just the mush was there, killed it, and the to-be-Pld hadn't gone to the towers yet. -_- So on the way out we grab the thyme moss for "To Cure a Cough" and run into Purpleflash on the way. Not knowing what he's for (we're a war42 and whm53) we engage it. The battle is going well until we get three links. Then I get the tell, "You doing Rdm AF?", so I ally with their party and let them have the key, after they jump in and save us from near certain doom. ^_^ We go get the moss, and head back to Sandy. When we come back later, the Bulge is at the well. I don't notice it's an NM, just engage it like the mush. Almost owned again without the help of an anon whm/bst or bst/whm named Mary (thanks again Mary!) who pulls us through the battle. No drop. -_- On the way out we took a look for Purpleflash (I'm vengeful and wanted another shot at him, avoiding links this time) but he wasn't around, so that could support the idea that they're not up at the same time; I didn't stick around to see if he'd show up.
But yes, the Bulge is at the well, sometimes... which is how NMs tend to work.

I can confirm it spawns at the well. We ran into it with a few PLD wannabees. Fluid Spread hit me (41 RDM) for 333, so this is no piece of cake...
This mob doesn't guard the well to do the PLD Flag quest, that mob is called Davoi Mush. Looks identical, but I've done the PLD flag quest several times for people (and myself), don't be confused.
ur wrong its a nm spawned by killing the mush a few times like most other nm's it has a place holder that which is the mush . to back this up i just killed it not 5 mins prior to this and it almost took down my lvl 60 self i say almost because i was down to 500 hp :P
ok heres the story.me(lvl 30war) my freind(24 nin) and the leader(level 37 pld) were doing the pld quest. we get to the well and the pld starts fighting this so we could go back. he checks it and says OH ****.we were like whhat? so we checked it and it was an NM. we all start fisghting it.we get it to about 4th health and the nin does 2 hour. doesnt even dent it. i used mighty strikes a long time ago. i die. the pld runs and makes it out alive.lucky him.Morale of the story: check things b4 you engage.

Found this thing last night by accident. Party was seeking Purpleflash Brakdok, and we came across B.B. While debating wether or not we could handle it, it aggro'd our MNK. Party was:

We actually killed it quite easily--nobody was even close to dying with Regen and Refresh and 2 RDM's. It hits hard, but our magic was good enough to kill it. Didn't drop anything. It was still pretty exciting to fight a 'higher level' NM.

My friend lvl 55 sam killed it with me healing him (lvl 31 whm), then we ran into purple brukdok a mob posted around same lvl. The sam injured about 1/4 power b4 we warped away, i use benediction and the didnt look twice at me. :s
I solo'd the PLD flag quest a lvl 30WAR/15MNK. I used Prism Powders and Silent Oil, made my way to the well and used Defender to shake off the powder and oil. I got the Key Item and this thing started in on me a second later. I had 629hp and I triggered my Scroll of (not so) Instant Warp. When I arrived in San d' Oria I had 63hp left. I guess it would have been a good idea to eat a fish Mithkabob.

You can turn off self-inflicted effects such as meals and protect/shell, berserk and defender by pressing the 'plus' key on the number bad until there is a red box around an effect in your buffs/debuffs window.
Use left and right arrow keys, select the buff you wish to remove, and press enter.
This works with Sneak and Invisible, but you should have only taken off Invisible in this situation. You can still interact with NPCs if you have Sneak.
Just thought I'd share this with you. It is incredibly useful if you're berserking and end up moving into a tanking position. You can cancel Berserk and trigger Defender very quickly.
But it has other uses as well.
I'm not sure about the PS2 controls, you'd have to consult your manual or experienced PS2 players.

From 629 to 63, it's probably a good thing he did use Defender. ^_^ Although, since it only aggros by sound (or so the info says) losing just the invis perhaps would have been safer.
Unfortunately, you can't cancel meals. There is a potion for removing meals though. Anatacid. And yes, it's a real potion. Click the link if you doubt me.

a notorious monster is not always for killing for its uber loots. There are many notorious monsters that you must kill that offer you other rewards, actually about 90% of quest/mission related nm's don't drop anythign of merit, and seeing how this is one of them....
I dunno about you but it kicked the crap outta me at like level 44. I'm a taru rdm, but it was still doing over 100dmg to me for most of the hits it was doing. I didn't do more than 15% damage to it. Maybe a party of 46's or 47's would kill it but sure as hell not solo ^^;

okay peeps.. this "nm" isnt really lvl 45.. cause ive now helped THREE of my ls peeps, and always had a whm there, and in general, if an nm is the same lvl as you, you're as good as dead in about 3 hits... but this thing is a wuss... didnt ever even get me to half hp... sure it help to have a whm, but seriously, its no lvl 45-47... its a big wuss if it is... if any of you are on fenrir, and want some help, send me a tell... im on... a LOT.. >.< anyway... good luck to all of youZ!

WTF, this thing is so gay I was just doing my pally quest when this thing shows up. good thing i had a lvl 61 pally helping me ^^
I'd assume its a NM simply because it guards a very important point, namely the key item for the Paladin Quest. That may in fact be its only point.

because the game makers were cheap, basicly i've come to figure that there are some NM's prolly higher lvl, that drop good stuff, and some that drop crap.... but i think NM's just = that its a mob with a unique name.. doesnt always mean it will drop something uber *shrug* but thats just my 2 gil's worth

Wht does this NM drop, if it only drops the slime and a crystal as is stated by the picutre, than how can u call it an NM? neway, just wanted to throw in some logic lol

what's the point of fighting this thing?
it spawns next to the well from the Paladin quest, and it spawns quite often. i was lv33 and it did an area attack that took away 230hp
