Contents [hide]

General Information

    • Respawn time on the ??? is approximately one minute after Nidhogg is defeated or despawns.

  • If continually engaged for sixty minutes after being claimed, Nidhogg will "rage", resulting in significantly increased attack power.

  • Has a draw-in effect.

  • Grants title: Nidhogg Slayer

Nidhogg Special Attacks

  • Absolute Terror: Single target Terror effect.

  • Dragon Breath: Frontal cone AoE Fire based magic damage.

    • As with all breath attacks, damage is most potent when standing directly in front of Nidhogg. Standing on either of its front feet will mitigate most, if not all, damage from Dragon Breath.

  • Horrid Roar: Single target Dispel effect.

    • Will remove all status boosts on the target.

  • Hurricane Wing: AoE magical damage with an additional Blind effect (Circle of effect originates from mob).

  • Spike Flail: Massive AoE physical damage (Circle of effect originates from mob).

    • Nidhogg will only utilize this ability if its primary target is attacking from behind

  • Unknown: Self target Attack and Defense boost (Effect cannot be dispelled).

    • Denoted by the characteristic mob two-hour animation. Additionally, Nidhogg will hold its wings up in the air during the duration of the effect.

    • Nidhogg will use this periodically, with the duration lasting roughly 30 seconds to 1 minute. There is no message in the chat log for when Nidhogg performs this action

Note: All AoE abilities will hit -everyone- in range, regardless if they are in the alliance or not.

Historical Information

Nidhogg (originally spelled Nidhoggr) was a dragon which, throughout the ages, gnawled on one of the three roots of the World Tree Yggdrasill. While gnawing at the root, he would insult the giant eagle that sat utop Yggdrasill through a squirrel named Ratatoskr, who would run messages between the two creatures daily.

It is said that Nidhogg would herald the beginning of the Ragnarok by finally managing to break through the root he chewed upon for millenia, and torment the bodies of the dead during the epic battle.

the adaman hauberk doesn't come from nidhogg directly, but you are right.
He drops the abjuration for it, but after you get that you need to get a Cursed Hauberk or a Cursed Hauberk-1 or whatever and hand in that with the abjuration to an NPC in sando
a new discoevery

i killed this today, i've been going to dragon's aery for past 6 days or so, it went like this
Day1= nidhogg,
day2= fafnir
day3= fafnir
day4= fafnir
day5= fafnir
day6= nidhogg.
he pops every 5-7 fafnir kills. The title granted is Nidhogg Slayer and he does look exactly the same as fafnir, if you wanted to fight it, i'd recommend an alliance of 16-18 70+, his dragon breath is lethal, i'd suggest all whms that are going to have smn subjobbed for garuda's aerial armor.
the fight lasted roughly 2 hours and he dropped dragon scales, talon, nidhogg's scales and an A abjuration which, i lost the lot on all of them><;

Reason is, not a lot of lvl 30's know about gods ^^)b Why? Because high level (70-75) don't tolerate "OMFG HAHAZ U SUX I TEH W1NZXX0RZ" in their HNM LS's. HNM's are about ultimate teamwork -- Those types are only out for themselves.

Fafnir is a placeholder for Nidhogg...

i.e. they spawn in the same place and are the same mob type (Dragon).

I heard melee are pointless on Nidhogg... and also that he is the hardest HNM in the game is this true?

Anyone who gets close to this guy, take a pic, I wanna see it ^^

Kirin is the hardest HNM in the game. Him and the four sait beasts WHICH he summons when you fight him, and as for Hellbeacon, well, some people have said hes actually a lvl 20 MNK... but thats neither here nor there...
#REDACTED, Posted: May 31 2004 at 6:30 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) uh-uh, nidhogg is definetely the hardest HNM. i've fought every HNM in the game so trust me, i know from experience. he's at LEAST lvl 100, and king behemoth and kirin are both lvl 90, and i'm not sure what the saint beasts are but when i fought them they were a LOT easier than nid. when i killed nid, my group was me, 2 BLMs, 3 PLDs, 4 WHMs, 3 RNGs, 3 WARs, a RDM, and a THF. we all used our two-hours (some of us used it twice!!), and each of us died at least once (luckily our WHMs had enough MP to raise us), but it was all worth it about 3 hours later when we FINALLY killed it!!!!!

he isnt hardest HNM in game... the 4 saint beasts, king behemoth, and kirin are more powerful then him. and all melee are pretty much useless against nidhogg king and aspido. if you ever watch kking behemoth fight, the alliance is 3-4 pld or ninja, 2 rng, maybe 1 drk and the rest whm brd rdm blm.

Nidhogg ("corpse-renderer") is a Wyrm that lies at the base of the World-Tree, Yggdrasil. Nidhogg tears away at the roots of the world tree trying to destroy it. Nidhogg lives above Niebelheim (the underworld) and feeds on corpses to sustain itself. (Probably why he won't spawn until you kill Fafnir.)

There are other Wyrms at the base of Yggdrasil who work to destroy it: Graback, Grafvolluth, Goin, and Moin.

Not sure if this is true or not...maybe someone had just finished killing Fafnir when I arrived there. But when I got to Dragon's Aery, Nidhogg was the one I saw (and the one that killed me). I never saw Fafnir.

Not all HNMs are above level 75 (although all god HNMs seem to be). King Arthro is a good example of a HNM that is lower in level.
