Emergence of the Shadow Lord

Twenty years before the Dawn of the Age of Adventurers, a terrifying demon emerged from the frozen heights of Xarcabard. Nobody knew where this demon came from, and none of the nations were prepared for his wrath. This Kindred demon united the beastmen of Vana'diel against the five races of Altana in a war referred to nowadays as the Crystal War, or the Great War of 20 years ago.

This demon was called the Shadow Lord.

At the conclusion of the Crystal War, an elite squad of warriors fought through Castle Zvahl Baileys and cornered Shadow Lord in his throne room. There, the mighty demon was defeated... or so the world thought.

Come the Age of Adventurers, the dark spirit of the Shadow Lord began to stir once more. Motivated by this great force, the beastmen of Vana'diel set in motion a plot to revive their revered leader. Before this plot can envelop the world in a second Great War, a young adventurer joins forces with veterans of the original war to foil the sinister plot. In the end, the Shadow Lord does rise again -- but the adventurer is there waiting. An epic battle ensues. When it is over, only the adventurer is left standing.

The Shadow Lord then reveals his true identity: he is Raogrimm, the former Galka Talekeeper, consumed by the torment and pain of generations of his people.

In this final defeat, the Shadow Lord believes he can rest peacefully.

SPOILERS: Origins of the Shadow Lord

A decade before the Crystal War, the three nations of Vana'diel launch an expedition to the frozinvestigate a lost civilations . The expedition included Ulrich, a powerful Hume swordsman; his friend, Raogrimm, the Galkan Talekeeper, keeper of the race's memories; and Cornelia, a beautiful Hume female warrior.

The expedition through the northlands was going as planned until a rift began forming between Ulrich and Raogrimm. The Galka was advocating peace with the beastmen, a thought Ulrich didn't agree with. Also, Raogrimm had proven to be the better warrior of the two, despite Ulrich's prowess with his blade. Then there was Cornelia; the Hume female and the Galka had developed a secret affection for one another, and Ulrich was green with envy.

The day finally came when Ulrich could no longer control his jealosy. The Hume surprised Raogrimm, pulling his sword and moving to kill him. Cornelia, faithful to the end, stepped in front of Ulrich's blade -- and he ran her through. Raogrimm took her dead body in his arms, and then Ulrich killed him, too.

Ulrich hid the truth of what happened when he returned home from his expedition. However, the rage and saddness of the betrayal resonated through the world, and into the memory of the magicite crystals.

Thirty years after the fact, as you find pieces of magacite crystals hidden throughout Vana'diel, you catch the first glimpses of the horrid betrayal, the event which ignited Raogrimm's hatred and allowed him to ressurect himself as the Shadow Lord.

I personally have killed the shadowlord for myself and others 3 times here recently. None of those times have we gotten anykind of drop. I believe this drop info should be for the dynamis boss mentioned previously.
True or False
# Mar 06 2005 at 9:29 PM Rating: Decent
I couldn't believe it when my LS mates went extatic over the update on alla here stating that the Shadow Lord now dropped the shadow mantle and ring. Now, after a week or so of time I notice the speculation from the users over it has stopped, and that the site now only lists him dropping the ring and not both. Has this been tested true and that's why no one has said anything about it or what... and why remove the mantle and not the ring? Is the ring a confirmed drop now?
ring and mantle? -_-
# Feb 25 2005 at 1:47 AM Rating: Decent
FALSE'd!

whoever sent in that the shadow lord drops the shadow ring and shadow mantle was thinking about DYNAMIS LORD (ruler of dynamis - xarcabard and easily the hardest monster in the game), who is already listed in allakhazam's database as dropping the ring and mantle.
RE: ring and mantle? -_-
# Jun 08 2005 at 2:09 PM Rating: Default
wrong, Dynamis Lord is NOT the hardest monster in the game, Vrtra is easily the most difficult mob in the entire game, without a challenge.

I agree. A level 75 VIT+20 item dropping from the SL that you can kill with 4-5 people? I think not. Unless its a 1 in 1,000 drop.

That is, if this is the item your refering to...

75 RDM / NIN soloed it for a few members of my LS. He had a few other 60's with him, but they didn't get involved because he wanted to see if he could solo it.

My advice would be to just kill the demons near the teleporters. Its alot better then just standing on the teleporter and hoping you dont get aggroed by the 2 surrounding demons. I got killed this way b/c my party just ran off ahead and I got left behind; ;.

Dark Crystal?
# Jan 27 2005 at 8:05 PM Rating: Good
I don't mean to be picky but how did they decide that he drops a dark crystal? It's a burning circle fight and the closest to a direct item drop I've seen is some beastmen BCs drop gil. I seriously don't believe he'll drop anything like a crystal.

Well, I've gotten a Dark Crystal drop from the Rank 3 Dragon, so it's not unheard of.

So Much Fun
# Jan 23 2005 at 12:20 AM Rating: Decent
I just did this mission now on Kujata, PT setup was as follows:

Martyr - SAM55/WAR27 (Me)
Cen - ~RDM69/??
Bankotsu - PLD55/WAR27
Hakamaru - BLM62/??
Planeswalker - WHM62/BLM31
Bringer - RNG57/??

When we arrived a Castle Zvahl Baileys, we went in a little bit, but then demons aggrod/linked, so we escaped. I asked my PLD60 friend to guide us to Castle Zvahl Keep. almost at zone, quadavs, demons, and arihmans aggro. My friend died, everyone else made it to Keep. The whm died from poison II. once we were at Castle Zvahl Keep, it was a cakewalk to the Throne Room. Instead of sneaking and invising everyone, we fought our way thru. Once we got to the Throne Room, we buffed up, use foods, and entered the room.

Phase 1: After everyone was done with the cutscene, we commenced attack on the Shadowlord. The pld got down to orange hp a few times, but whm was on the ball for healing. When he used invincible, the blm spammed magic attacks. He ran out of mp before he died, so the rdm spammed magic attacks. He went down soon after.

Phase 2: Man, it was an overkill. Pld, and me 2-houred, rng also did sidewinder. He had 1/2 his hp left after that. After spamming a couple of AoE attacks, the pld and I almost died, then whm did curaga 2. He went down really soon.

All in all, this mission was real easy, and fun
LOL
# Jan 22 2005 at 2:52 PM Rating: Decent
Haha, just solo'd the second one, my PT defeated the first one BARELY and then got owned quickly by AoE's on the second one, so it was just me and the WHM left, 60 WHM/BLM 60 RDM/BLM, so im like "Aww hell i didnt come 2 hours to get up here for nothing" and i engage, then i kept stoneskin up, and attacked, and beat him ^^ WHM had no MP left i had like 10 MP left lol
RE: LOL
# Feb 22 2005 at 3:31 PM Rating: Excellent
I hate to break it to you but if you had a whm healing you then you didn't "solo" anything. Solo means 1, uno, ichi, hana, singular, opposite of plural.

Pretty Easy
# Dec 19 2004 at 11:06 AM Rating: Decent
Well my PT took him down last night. Was a pretty easy fight...I thought it would be much, much harder.
PT was:
59 drk/war(me)
?? thf/war
63 nin/war
71 smn/whm
60 whm/blm
59 rdm/blm

Well we defeated him fairly quickly (8 mins) and were about 40 sec shy of the record on Pande ^_~
Nice cut scenes involved in this mission and I got to see Lion again. w00t ^^

Alliance. Bah i did it with 4 folks . All 60 or under.Didnt plan on it that way. But sam left on the way . and whm d/ced right at the throne room and never came back.So we had 55drg,60nin, and 2 lvl 58 blms. Needless to day it was dumb but we had spent over 4 hours gettin party together and getting all the way to the throne room so we though why stop now. We had both blms heal at begginning. by the invincible part our blms where at half MP. They hit 2-hr's and nuked him till they where both out of mp. Then came the aoe part. Hell that was fun...... By this time blm's had recovered about 100 mp each. Divine Seal Curage...Curaga...Curaga. We won but the poor taru taru blms had died... along with the mithra nin.... me the drg was the only one left standing to finish the last 5% of its HP. It doesnt sound like much but i was only lvl 55 at the time and i fought my hardest. I killed him with 3 HP to spare. It was a great fight. Now rank 9. That was the hardest mission by far in my oppion. And i wish i could spell

Party
70RDM/35BLM (me)
67PLD/33WAR (d/c in Castle Zvahl Keep ; ;)
51THF/25NIN
58WHM/29BLM
50MNK/25WAR
56RDM/28BLM

When we reached the Throne Room as you can see the PLD d/c ; ; so i had to tank this fight. For me to keep hate off a MNK the THF had to SATA me everychance she could. 2nd Time Shadowlord became immune to physical he casted Blizzaga II and killed the THF. He died shortly after all HP was in red.

In his second form the MNK 2 hred him and i just kept wacking him. he died to AOE and then there was 3..... i had about 12 MP(couldnt do anything ; ; not enough MP for Refresh) i had enough b4 that for Phalanx, using phalanx he only hit me 10-90 with his AOE (major difference it was weird) the WHM used benediction and the RDM and WHM watched for the rest while i took him out with 400~ HP to spare

Total: 24:32 - Not bad for no real DD ^^
my rank 6 story
# Nov 22 2004 at 2:37 AM Rating: Default
About a week ago we had about a full alliance going for rank 6, well by the time we got there there were only 10 left. We thought a full aliance could go in altogether (lol) so it ended up 6 and 4 teams o.O well my pt was- SAM, THF(70^^ also tank with nin sub) BRD and DRG(me) well i looked at the top part with the 6 people party, pld whm blm i forgot what else was in it, and i saw ALOT of their HP reach red then 0 they all died >.< But my pt on the other hand was doing decent enough, Mambo evasion bonus seriously helped the thf/nin. we got Shadow Lord to about 7/10 HP, then bam Invincible, for i'm guessing 10-15minutes we were all hitting him for 0 (his invincible is crazy >.>) and no BLMs or nukers of any kind so we were stuck ; ; but then it wore off and yep he did it again after 400 damage taken -_- this one was much shorter though, maybe 5 or so minutes of 0s till me and the SAM's TP were 100%. the moment we saw damage, Tachi:Jinpu followed by Penta Thrust and gravitation SC finsihed him, at least the first form =o he comes back in his AOE form or whatever and this battle was REALLY CLOSE my wyvern dies, i summon again, it dies again ; ; so the SAM 2 hours it which was useful but bring all hate to him, he spams AOE and all of us, even the 70 THF are in yellow, followed by red. The BRD divine seals+ Curagas and we're back in yellow, another AOE all of us back the in red >.< we were all very nervous if we'd die or not, but after a bit we finally killed him with 4. the clear time was 22 minutes 43 seconds? (something like that) So you don't NEED mages to win, but theyll help alot so consider them lol. i think NINs are better tanks for this than PLDs since shadow lord has low delay, giving enough time for utsusemi recasts. Well good luck to whoever fight him^^

Took this guy on with a VERY unorthodox group from my linkshell, as the alliance of 15 people we had to help us left over from 5-1 crapped out long before we hit the Throne Room.

70~RNG/NIN Mithra, Temporal (she was /anon the whole time and nothing in Castle Zvahl aggroed her, but she did not have Utsu: Ni)
68PLD/WAR Galka, Turel (no aggro there, either)
56PLD/WAR Elvaan, Syl
55THF/NIN Elvaan, Tetrarien
50BLM/WHM Tarutaru, Gargantus (the only one of the group to actually fight the Shadowlord not from my linkshell)
49THF/NIN Mithra, Jayrih (that's me!)

In the course of getting from the Vahzl telepoint to the Throne Room, we went from 15 people to 6 as people gradually gave up, left or logged/Warped without warning. :/ In the end the six of us left were at the halfway point in Castle Zvahl wondering what the hell we would do now, and I said, "Well, we might as well fight the Shadowlord. It's worth a shot." Even though Temporal (RNG) was of the opinion that our chances of success without a WHM were 2%.

That's right, people. We had one mage, a BLM/WHM, and not even from the linkshell. We had every right to think we were doomed. >_< But we forged on anyway. Once all the deadwood was pared away, things actually went REALLY fast - after the last member left, we caught no more aggro and only got lost once, making it to the Throne Room in record time, upon which we went inside.

The five of us melees got the Shadow Lord to 20% health before his physical immunity kicked in, whereupon the BLM used Manafont (he was out of MP at the time from trying to keep us melees alive) and cast Freeze. That was enough to cause him to change into his second form, and all of us promptly mobbed him in a frantic effort to kill him. I fell first, then the RNG and BLM after me - both PLDs used Invincible and the other THF got a cure from one of the PLDs, and the three of them killed the Shadow Lord not thirty seconds after I fell. Victoly!

And after the badass cutscene, a LV75 WHM farming in Castle Zvahl was kind enough to Raise III me, the RNG and BLM. :D I was down a total of two minutes.

Zilart Missions, here I come!

(EDIT: Me kin speel so gud!)

EDIT EDIT: As accidentally discovered by Syl, CURE SPELLS HARM THE SHADOWLORD. So if you're out of MP on the mages or there are members down, have your PLD cue up Invincible and slam some Cures on him!

Heh, yea that was definitely a fun time... (note the sarcasm :P). Just glad we got it done on a night where it seemed like no one could keep sneak and invis up. Was proud of myself though, managed to tank 2 Floating Eyes while me and blm duoed 1 of them while others were trying to find another member >< Managed to stay alive to take 1 eye down and have others come to save the day. Overall though, it was fun ^^

Ugh shut up, stop throwing tantrums when you dont understand things, just wait until you acctually do it, there is a reason that the shadow lord is not a higher level, and he is not the "Ultimate Evil" or anything close, just wait and experience the story and stop whining about it >_> I'm sick of random missinformed crap all over this website.
