Emergence of the Shadow Lord

Twenty years before the Dawn of the Age of Adventurers, a terrifying demon emerged from the frozen heights of Xarcabard. Nobody knew where this demon came from, and none of the nations were prepared for his wrath. This Kindred demon united the beastmen of Vana'diel against the five races of Altana in a war referred to nowadays as the Crystal War, or the Great War of 20 years ago.

This demon was called the Shadow Lord.

At the conclusion of the Crystal War, an elite squad of warriors fought through Castle Zvahl Baileys and cornered Shadow Lord in his throne room. There, the mighty demon was defeated... or so the world thought.

Come the Age of Adventurers, the dark spirit of the Shadow Lord began to stir once more. Motivated by this great force, the beastmen of Vana'diel set in motion a plot to revive their revered leader. Before this plot can envelop the world in a second Great War, a young adventurer joins forces with veterans of the original war to foil the sinister plot. In the end, the Shadow Lord does rise again -- but the adventurer is there waiting. An epic battle ensues. When it is over, only the adventurer is left standing.

The Shadow Lord then reveals his true identity: he is Raogrimm, the former Galka Talekeeper, consumed by the torment and pain of generations of his people.

In this final defeat, the Shadow Lord believes he can rest peacefully.

SPOILERS: Origins of the Shadow Lord

A decade before the Crystal War, the three nations of Vana'diel launch an expedition to the frozinvestigate a lost civilations . The expedition included Ulrich, a powerful Hume swordsman; his friend, Raogrimm, the Galkan Talekeeper, keeper of the race's memories; and Cornelia, a beautiful Hume female warrior.

The expedition through the northlands was going as planned until a rift began forming between Ulrich and Raogrimm. The Galka was advocating peace with the beastmen, a thought Ulrich didn't agree with. Also, Raogrimm had proven to be the better warrior of the two, despite Ulrich's prowess with his blade. Then there was Cornelia; the Hume female and the Galka had developed a secret affection for one another, and Ulrich was green with envy.

The day finally came when Ulrich could no longer control his jealosy. The Hume surprised Raogrimm, pulling his sword and moving to kill him. Cornelia, faithful to the end, stepped in front of Ulrich's blade -- and he ran her through. Raogrimm took her dead body in his arms, and then Ulrich killed him, too.

Ulrich hid the truth of what happened when he returned home from his expedition. However, the rage and saddness of the betrayal resonated through the world, and into the memory of the magicite crystals.

Thirty years after the fact, as you find pieces of magacite crystals hidden throughout Vana'diel, you catch the first glimpses of the horrid betrayal, the event which ignited Raogrimm's hatred and allowed him to ressurect himself as the Shadow Lord.

Solo'd as 73pld/whm 27 minutes 34 seconds. 3 yag drinks 5 hi-potions. Recommend bringing more of each. Also recommend bringing a couple of hi-ethers. Joyeuse, swift belt, parade gorget (soil gorget swap for Vorpal Blade). Rest is pretty normal gear. AF body and feet, adaman legs, I.R. sallet and gauntlets, bibiki shell, shield/hospitaler earrings, jelly/herc. rings, koenig shield, knightly mantle.
He can be solo'd by a 75 RDM/ NIN

I just fought this guy with my LS as a 75 RDM/NIN. We had a 75 WHM, and a couple other random players who tagged along.

Basically, the RDM/NIN (me) just solo'd it while everyone else stood around and watched. This guy could barely cut through stoneskin, let alone actually hurt me.

Everyone in the party that helped me was over level 60. The BIGGEST pain in the butt about this whole mission was getting up to the tower. Our guide was relying on Online maps, and we were running around lost for about 2 hours before we even found our way to Shadow Lord's tower.
The setup ended up being something like:
71SAM, 72BLU, 69WHM, 63DRG, 60WHM(me).

This setup seems like it would be pretty simple. I figured if some 75 jobs can solo Shadow Lord that with this many people it would be a breeze. The first few minutes were a piece of cake. Melee attacks were doing great damage. Once he hit 50% health, he switched to his "magic damage only" mode, and the other WHM and I were forced to waste all of our MP casting Banishga II and Holy until he was done with. This was a problem because once he started spamming AoE magic attacks, us WHM had no MP left to cure. Those AoE attacks hit HARD and he'll spam one once every 10 seconds or so, but luckily in this stage melee attacks deal critical damage and he can go down quick. I almost used my 2-hour because by the end of the fight, everyone was down to orange or red health.

I was really hoping to go into this fight without having to find a whole party to go with, maybe just one or two 75's to help. I really suggest finding more than just one or two people as it will shorten the fight and you won't have to waste time getting all the way back up there if you get wiped. Kudos to those that can duo it, and try to find a kid with a map who knows where they're going!
Duoed WHM 75 and me THF 75.

Was a pretty easy fight he never hit me once with a melee attack only AoE and Implosion did damage on me, after some time he got imune to psycical damage so took long time at this stage the wHM had got hate because I could not hit it but I did get hate back WHM nuked him with light magic to finish him off.

Second shape we killed fast WHM was resting and I just hit it and used bloody bolts, only the implosion he spammed did 19-158 damage on me but was never really a big problem.

It is said a NIN can solo him but if you do sub /whm or /rdm and have potions ready and refresh drinks.

You will need elemental nukes as NIN also so bring tools.

Have fun!

Soloed him 2 nights ago as a 75 MNK/NIN using no items.

When he used his physical immunity shield I popped Formless Strikes. He never landed one melee hit against me, all damage was AoE that went through shadows. I won with about 600/1700 hp left without using Chakra. Overall an easy fight.

Baude - 75 SMN with 10 merits - EZ FIGHT. Single carby and 1 Searing light, done. We had a PT that went in but the mele's went down and I was left there to solo the remainder of the fight. I was shocked at how ez it is.

Just solod Shadow Lord as a 75DRK/37NIN in a 15 minute battle with no items except a Meatkabob. I did 8608 + Bio II DoT to his first form, and 3145 damage to his second. Was a slow fight on first form under 1/3, as i had to kill most of him with Drain. For the second form, I was forced to Souleater Bloodweapon, but I managed to win with 493 HP and 79 MP left. Was one of the most fun battles i've had in a long time! So for 75DRKs wanting to beat this, try to solo it if you have NIN subbable!
will i ever...

Not a chance at 65. Your best bet would be with Carby Mits. My buddy Choompo and I attempted to Duo him last night twice as 68's, SMN & RDM. We had the best plan, and it worked great(except the first time when i got smoked in between stage 1 & 2). Carby would tank, occational blood pact, and an occational nuke from me. Had to cast Gravity and Bind a lot to keep him from wallowing on me. We were doing great, cept one problem. Time. Either he or I would have to take time to heal, especially between stages. And Avitar DMG wasn't all that great unless you were spamming Blood Pact. IF you had Carby Mitts, and Yag drinks you might be able to pull this off. His AOE attack on his second form is impossible to run from so expect to get hit with it, a lot.

We had him down to < 1/4 his life when we ran out of time the second round. Oh well, no loss. So, I called in a long time buddy of mine, Finalcloud (PLD), and we rocked the Shadow Lord's world. Was a joke, seriously. So, we trio'd him as 68RDM, 68SMN, 75PLD. No issues.

You know, I could reply to this and tell you why you're an idiot, but I've decided to go ahead and not try and educate someone as ignorant as you. Just let it be known that each job has their moments of glory and their weak points. You'll change your tune quickly when Tiamat touches down and erases your shadows, uses mighty strikes and prepares to rape you in two hits, but doesn't because the "fail" PLD/NIN in your party covers you and saves your ***.

Good for nothing? You are maybe.
going to solo...

I've been wanting to take this bad boy on for quite a while and now that I got 5-1 out of the way w/ my rank points at max already... soon as I get exp buffers, it's time to try it...

I'm a lvl 65 smn... Going to try this as 65 smn/32 whm...

Going to use Carby for this battle to reduce perpetuation costs... probably poison nails for melee attack and meteorite for magic attack... searing light in the end to finish the job... Or I'm also thinking of using Ifrit's Burning Strike for the physical portion and Fire IV/Inferno for the magic portion... It would cost me more MP, but may be more effective.

Either way, this guy should start out as border line EP/DC and move up to border line EM/T... so after he's EM/T and weak to magic attacks, that's when I bust out my TP built + Astral Pot Inferno... Hmmm... ideas....

Any smn's think this is pheasible? Any smn's know for a fact it's not gunna happen? or most smn's uncertain and now thinking of the probability of survival?

Well, my try was with this party set-up:

75 DRK/NIN
73 BLM/WHM
62 PLD/WAR
60 RDM/BLM
57 BRD/WHM (me)
55 DRG/WAR

Wasn't to hard, only a few times the lower lvls were in yellow. The DRK kept using Rampage. Oh, can anyone tell me when Banishga doesn't work on the Shadow Lord. I used it when he became immune to physical and it showed "Banishga has no effect on the Shadow Lord". Then, when he went to his AoE form, the DRK activated Souleater and Rampage'd him to the other world lol. Hitting him for over 1500 dmg. Well, that's it. We could've got the time record cleared but me and the pld wanted to record the event and battle.
My shot at him

I just beat the Shadow Lord today, here was our setup:

68PLD/WAR
60SMN/WHM (me)
62THF/NIN
61WAR/NIN
59BLM/RDM
57WHM/BLM

Wasn't too hard. The melee worked down his physical form pretty quickly, then the blm and I devastated his magical form.

The third part was difficult, but fast. He was spamming his AoE move, and I used astral flow, and the white mage used benediction. The problem was, I was out of benediction range and I was killed.

So I was lying dead for the fight, but the others killed it pretty quickly. I'd say a party of level 60's can handle him pretty easily, as long as they're careful on the last form.

My gf needed this, so we decided to duo it for more fun. Me as WHM75/NIN37 and her as RDM53/BLM. Fight took 20 minutes, 52 seconds. Only annoying part was when he was immune to physical damage. I got him down to 72% before my gf even finished her CS though. Used exactly 30 shihei for the fight. She died when his last form was at 23% cuz neither of us had mp to heal her. ; ; We won anyway, and it was fun. :)

Did it last night

PLD66 (me)
BLM58
WHM58
DRG60
DRK50

Tanked him no problem and kited him when he started going mental with his AOEs. Towards the end of the 2nd fight I hit my 2HR, which was probably unecessary as I had about 1k of HP left. In the end only the BLM died and we all walked out Rank 6 ^_^
