Dunno if this has been brought up yet... but why the HECK is a black mage ant holding the Summoner AF1??!?!?!?!?! that's so friggin STUPID Ugh! :(
Ever think that there might be some items that look the same or very similar?? (ie. Cloak & Black Cloak; Cmbt Caster pants and those other ones I forget the name).

The antican tag is used to spawn NM ant at a different area of the quicksands. Forgot his name but we fought it and useless drops but it does drop adamen ore apparently. We camped Centurio and got him after the pld died then I died the others kept him busy till the Pld got his health back. We were just able to beat him. The shamen cloak dropped and the whm and blm there lotted on it along with me and the whm got it. Not sure what he is gonna do with it though since his whm AF is better.

he also drops antican robes stone4 and some gil.

If you /nin this guy is cake. Blinks will absorb the ancient magics. Just bring a whm to heal/silence. Easy.

not lvl 62-64
it's lvl 58, but since NM it is harder than normal mob lvl 58
I fought it with a BLM friend of mine, not that hard, but can't gangbang him, cos' he'll spam firaga II which hurts

Like all Anticans, he detects by sound. Ran past him and his friends in Quicksand Caves last night with Sneak on. Scared the daylights out of me because my Sneak started to drop. Ran out of there right quick. He looks exactly like all the other BLM Anticans except his staff looks different.

Enter Quicksands from the East Altepa Desert at K-7. Once inside Quicksands, go over to H-9/H-10. Kill the placeholders to force his spawn. The WHM killed Anticans for about two hours before Centurio popped, however I have heard from other people that the spawn time ranges anywhere from 1-3 hours.
Because you will not be able to solo him until lvl 68+ as a RDM (so I hear), I suggest you bring down three other lvl 60+ people to help you. Make sure at least one has a non-TP based stun like Shield Bash or the spell Stun.

Centurio is NOT lvl 72. After killing him today rather easily with the help of a lvl 71+ WHM (he was anon, but wearing errant gear so he was at least 71) I am fairly certain this NM's level is somewhere between 52-55. He did not resist any of my nukes or debuffs (except for Silence, which he appears to be immune to), meaning he is at least a couple levels below me, a 58 BLM.
He casts Ancient Magic, so be ready to stun him when he starts casting. In addition, he will use the two hour ability Chainspell at some point during the fight...fortunately, it does not appear as if he casts Ancient Magic during Chainspell, so we don't have to worry about getting hit by an instant, unstunnable Flood or Quake.
I *think* a party of 55s would be able to kill this NM....things could get ugly very quickly, though, if he casts a lot of -ga 2 spells on your party. He used Firaga 2, Blizzaga 2, and Aeroga 2 multiple times when I fought him, but because only one of us was getting hit with the spells (The WHM was tanking and I was standing FAR away), it really didn't hurt us that badly. A party of 55s would probably have a lot more trouble dealing with the -ga 2s.

Anyone have any information on the level of this mob? I know it drops the lvl 56 Shaman's Cloak so I figure it's probably around 56 right?
its around 63-64. Pretty easy to kill with a 5 60+ :P

Do you think a party of 6 lvl 55s could beat it? How often does this item drop? Every single time, fairly often, or very rarely?

It's Rare/EX so I wouldn't be suprised if it was a 100% drop.
