well i went in as 75whm/nin and got it down to about 85% before i died. from what i can tell, if you have good enough eva, and enfeeble you should be able to take him as whm. sadly my whm needs more enfeeble skill so i couldnt stick slow or paralyze so couldnt get shadows up faster than his hits.
Just some thoughts...

Well he definitely is soloable with a RDM. I soloed all the avatar primes as a 74 RDM.
I went /NIN and just used NI to get SS back up when it fell:
For Ifrit I used SS, Haste, phalanx, barfire and enwater as primary buffs. I used martial anelace and misericorde and used SW when I got 200 TP. For the most part things go well although occ he will get an unresisted astral flow on you and boom your in the red.

But you should go toe to toe with him. He won't be slept and DoT Kiting is tough since they are strongly magic resistant to anything but their own elemental weakness.

Well firstly getting your SMN to 20 if you havent already as it says its 16 on here.
Secoondly, getting some Carbuncle Mitts helps alot with mp when fighting with carbuncle and give u some possible life saving mp or time.
Thirdly but most importantly is your strategy, you need to go in there and get off as many Searing Lights with Astral Flow as you can, idealy 3 and not getting hit by Inferno because your basically dead if that happens. So engage him with Carbuncle at the top, Searing Light, run to the bottom, wait for carbuncle to die, resummon before ifrit gets to u, Searing Light again, run to the top, and repeat. It helps to bring items such as yag drinks and ethers as well.
Hope that helps.

Ive solo'd every avatar and taken no more than 200 dmg in each fight. They are insanely easy. I am thinking of trying a fenrir solo now :P
Now I'm a real rdm :p
# Sep 11 2006 at 3:26 AM Rating: Decent
I just duod and triod ramuh, shiva, titan, and garuda with a 75 brd ls mate and a rdm ~68 (He was anon). These fight went smoothly except the brd got caught twice on two hours of primes and ate dirt. I raised him both time mid-fight. I went as 75 rdm/nin with Martial anelace in main and Sapara of trial in off hand. My sword skill is 247 atm. I was wearing life belt and o-hat. we were on our way for Ifrit and everyone got sleepy. I said No way I'm gonna try and solo that big red bad boy. I kept buffs up including haste and spammed Spirits Within everytime my tp hit 200. 17 minutes and 0 seconds later I beat the red devil. My first solo prime avatar! Now I feel like a real rdm..you know the kind that does all that uber soling that you wanna be like :p Now if I can solo Fenrir I'll really be uber >.<

It's me Seistellis (on the pic of Ramuh too) after my fight lvl20 with him, and it was a cool pic in front of the crystal.

Ifrit is not the easiest, nor is he the hardest. I'd have to say that the hardest is reserved for Ramuh, simply because every single time I fought him as a lvl 20 smn, and it was many, first shot he does is his Thunder spark! can you say paralyze me and carby? I know I can and did many many times. His paralyze screwd up either my 2 hr, or carby's searing light and if you try to use it and paralyze blocks it, you have to wait a min to get it back and use again! But I solod every single one as a lvl 20 at least 2x except Ramuh, I couldn't get Ramuh the 2nd time. Instead just did a simply lvl 65+ group lol. Anyway, back to my main point of battles. First off they are simple, just need 2 hi potions, 2 ethers, and boiled crab and just follow the info on the smnrs site and relax. Most of the time it's your nerves that screws something up! When carby is about to 2 hr, be next to the avatar! if you arn't close enough to the avatar and carby, hate will switch to you and the avatar will move out of range! So you have to take a hit. then use ehter, and hi potion immediatly and run far far away! when carby's name goes away resummon, carby gets instant hate and then you can searing light again! Again, be next to the avatar! Also in beginning drink yag potion too! forgot about that one.

Yea, I agree Ramuh is the hardest fight, Mini or Prime, want to start a "We hate fighting Ramuh" Club? Prime sucks because if you don't have a RDM you hit his Shock Spikes and get stunned, mini he likes to use Thunderspark to Paralyze you... I say we start this club.

I went in for Ifrit Prime in the lvl 20 solo SMN battle. Took me three tries, but I killed him. And I currently hold the record on Garuda server for it. 5 min 11 sec.

I went to the site summoner.info printed out directions and followed them exactly. Garuda was simple I went 1/2 on her only because in the first fight I hit the wrong macro. Ifrit and Titan are just ridiculous lol. 0/4 on Ifrit and Titan using the same method. Titans 2hr is what kills me. Ifrit I must just suck lol. I'm giving up on the mini battle lol and going straight for the prime. MY WHM is 63 now and I have some good HL friends that hopefully will help me out XD Can't wait to get my Purple Doggy!!
#REDACTED, Posted: May 20 2005 at 8:42 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) wow mostly all of you beat him the lvl 20 way... i think thats gay how they made that, takes the fun out of getting a job 60+, even though me 62BLM/31WHM and a 75RDM/37NIN beat him >.>

Solo'd avatar with smn 20. 2nd time through (lost 1st) I beat him and luckly got record of 3min 41sec. All I used was one HI-Ether, Yag drink, and 1 HI-potion. I could have used a Ether too, but fight went very fast and Carbuncle hit really hard this time through. Don't think i am good though because my first avatar fight [Titan] i lost 4 times XD.
Mini Avatar Battles
# Apr 26 2005 at 2:37 PM Rating: Decent
I did the same thing as Miniyou. I fought Shiva, first avatar fight, and won. I then went to bastok to fight Titan, and forgot to l;et 2 hour reset. Haha. Jokes on me. I have now beat Titan after 4 tries, lost to Ifrit twice, and Garuda 3 times. I am SOOOO frustrated. I am 23 SMN now sitting in Qufim with Shiva and Titan ONLY. Meanwhile, these other summoners are blasting out Garuda, Ramuh, and some even Fenrir. I just blast out my Light, Dark and Thunder Spirits and hope I impress. LOL...Kidding. I dont have Light and Dark. Anyway, I need Xanax now for my nerves because of these damned avatar mini battles.

I just fought Ifrit and I personally thought he was remarkably easy. If you go under the Shiva Prime forum i have a post there for a strategy that will work for all the lvl 20 mini avatar battles. It is cheap, only costing about 10k per battle (on shiva server neway), and it is effective, because i am 1/3 on shiva and 1/1 on ifrit. I am 1/3 on shiva because it was my first one. I am also 0/1 on ramuh but that is cuz he is a lttle b**ch, but that is beside the point. Anyway i hope that post helps some of you summoners out there :D

P.S. The info in that other post came from www.summoner.info (very very good site for help with anything about summoner.)
Is this true?

As far as difficulty goes, I'd say they're this order:
hardest: Shiva - Ramuh - Ifrit
medium: Garuda
easiest: Leviathan - Titan

The thing is, they're all lvl 20, and all have the same basic lvl of stats. What makes one seem harder than the other is how you do in the fight. Maybe Ramuh was harder for you bc for some reason you got more hate that fight but using too many items, carbuncle missing attacks, agroing before assault, etc. Or having badluck of being hit with a special attack or 2hour. YOur luck kind of determines how difficult they are for you.

They reason I say ramuh shiva and ifrit hard the hardest is that I believe they can use the spikes, which gives them an edge. The reason I say Titan and Leviathan are the easiest, is that at smn20/whm10, you can use barwatera and barstona.

I think thats they only thing that truely seperates them apart. Other than that, it's just your luck in the fight. This is all in my opinion, of course.

ifrit and ramuh cannot use spikes man.
As for ifrit i beat him yesterday 2hrs after i beat shiva shiva was easy ifrit was not. Shiva i used 1 yag drink 1 boiled crab 1 potion 1 ether during the fight as for ifrit i had to use all 3 oh my potions my hi-potion both my ethers 1 yag drink 1 boiled crab Garuda should go up with the hard avatars cause i cannot kill that freak she keep using 2hr like today after 2nd searing light (this was on her weak day too) im waiting at the spawn point where you first find her she shows up and 2hrs me i had 2 hp left i ran like hell at first warning used 3 potions summoned somehow and carby ****s it up[ by now killing her she had like 5 hp left i even survived the aero II while carby was doing the last searing light all for nothing

sorry, I assumed Ramuh and Ifrit used spikes because Shiva does.
Anyways, like I said it's usually luck that determines how hard they are.
oh by theway, you said Garuda had like 5 hp left when you died, next time that happens, IF you're subbed whm use Dia before you die. If you die and it has dia, stick around a little and dia will kill the avatar. even though your dead, you still defeated it, and it counts as a win.
easy?
# Jan 20 2005 at 10:28 PM Rating: Default
Ifrit isnt easy hes a nightmare. The only avatar i killed was Titan and he took me 5 times. I tried to kill Ifrit because everyone says hes easy right. 5 seconds before he would have died he used inferno and smoked me and carby he is mean and not to be taken lightly. Oh and hey miniyou HELP ME KILL THIS BUM were in the same ls for god sakes GIVE ME MONEY PLEASE
