Historical Information

The Leviathan first appears in the Book of Job, 3:4, and was later described as a giant sea monster that was said to be up to three hundred miles in length and capable of expelling from his mouth a level of heat so intense that the waters of the ocean would boil.

It is said in Hebrew legend that, after the end of the world, the Leviathan will engage in a battle with the Behemoth and will kill one another. In alternate tellings of this legend, the Behemoth and the Leviathan will fight eachother, only to both be struck down by God.

Caught me a big one!!
# Apr 09 2008 at 10:49 AM Rating: Decent
Went home today on my lunch break and hit the Mini-fork for leviathan. I've learned that trying to win and not trying to break a record helps a lot. It costs more to keep losing than it does to just make sure you are stocked up for about a 6min fight. I took 4 hi-pots, 4 Ethers and 2 yagudo drinks and Fish Mithkabobs. Summoned, drank and had Carby attack him for a bit until Carby dies, resummoned had Carby attack him again, then before I moved off, Levi fired his 2 hour and killed Carby. So once I got him out again, after making sure my HP/MP was good with pots/ethers I started the AF/SL chain and wooped up on Levi.
It made for a great lunchtime success! Very smooth and, seemed like, very little risk, although anything could go wrong. I'd learned my lesson after taking 3 tries to kill Garuda, while hoping to set a 3minutes-ish record, trying to just start AF/SL and then getting my *** handed to me when she didn't die on the 3rd strike.
I set the record against Titan ( 3mins 49 secs ) and against Garuda ( 6mins...which seems high but the old record was over 7mins ^^ ) on Ramora server.

Hints:
*Don't rush! If you want to win, be patient, Let Carby work on them a couple times before starting the AF/SL chain
*Spend a little more on supplies instead of not having enough and it costing you more in the long run.
*If Carby dies make sure you're gonna live before trying to resummon Carby.
*If Carby dies unexpectedly DON'T freakout, unless of course you miss a SL...then it's ok, but if you have the supplies, there is still a chance you can use Carby enough to finish him, remember you have 15mins.
*I have noticed that using pots/ethers like a madman seems to draw more aggro...but so far, so good, just don't run out ^^

Did this for fun last nite, Pld/War Whm/Smn Blm/Whm. We started late and finished up during Waterday (ya I know, that's a no-no). Got it done in 6min, no deaths, so not that hard with a good tank and healer (my nukes got resisted big time however). Enjoy !!!
few tips
# Nov 12 2007 at 10:14 AM Rating: Decent
He's mostly easy pray but he will use a healing ability and if you dont use Red mage correctly he will make you use all your mp and you will not get a chance to convert so use stun at the start. His 2hr will mess you up unless your a level 75 or a high redmage with stoneskin (or whitemage useing stoneskin)
(his 2hr is known to kill rdm's at level 75 who dont use stoneskin so get it ready or else) also utsusemi:ichi utsusemi:Ni both will not pertect you from his 2hr so making it deadly to ninjas well............. Gooluck as i said its easy pray...............if you know what your doing that is
LOL

Leviathan Prime is a joke. Went in with Sam67/Thf (me Coyete), 75whm/nin (Syther), and 75Pld/nin (Ciric). So we go in and i TA the PLD, Gekko missed, whm start DDing, Remed up TA pld lands this time, fight for a few mins like its an exp party pop 2hr fragmentation x2 with yuki > Gekko > swift blade > Gekko > pop another gekko then he's dead. nothing to it.
mnk thf pwnage

So i went in as a 64 whm/smn as healer, and went in with a 75 thf/nin and a 75 mnk/nin there were also 2 level 30s in the pt but they stayed by the crystal and were only there for the whisper anyway. The mnk started off by sight aggroing it and keeping his shadows up, then when the thf had 150 tp he used sa dancing edge or blade however it is, right after that the mnk used asuran fists this took levi from 70 to 30 percent he two houred, idk how but the two hour hit the two lvl 30 whms by the crystal and killed them. I had blink and stoneskin up and thankfully only too 200 damage. right after that the avatar used spring water once and then the thf and monk did their ws again. taking the thing to almost death. I thought it was funny though when the killing blow was done by dia 2. The rest of the day was the same we fought each avater, and those 2 level 30 whms that went with us ended up being level 29, whms by the end of teh day. Later that day we grabbed 2 level 75 smn and one level 74 smn and we fought fenrir only the thf survived that one becuase one of the smn had forgotten that he had just ran a promy and his two hour was gone. He was spamming the ls chat with perfect dodge ftw. tomorrow we are going ot try and get diabolos, but this time with 6 smns me being level 47 and the rest being level 75. Lol we are hoping that 6 searing lights will kill him easily. But i doubt it lol.
are you guys serious?
# Oct 09 2006 at 9:09 PM Rating: Default
Ive done all the main primes several times on my 75Rdm/Nin owned em easy (minus ifirit dam monk) never have died and never took over 300 dmg from any 2 hour with barspells. these guys are all cake. any rdm/nin with barspells that dies to a 2-hour should slap themselfs HARD. anyway im out guess im the PIMPest Rdm in the thread...

I went up agaisnt this guy yesterday and I failed because of lag. I was screaming at my computer. Right after I did the first attack with searing light it started to lag and I couldn't move. By the time the lag cleared up My health was in yellow. So, here's a tip...turn off your anti-virus when you play FFXI...

Soloing Avatars
# Apr 05 2006 at 6:31 PM Rating: Default
I just soloed Leviathan just today, he is not hard at all. I soloed Titan and Shiva as well, I almost killed Shiva the first time but she did Blizzard IV on me for the kill, she was @ 4% health too, my computer is really slow and sometimes I cant manually wear off stoneskin and utsusemi in time so I can recast it (I start casting stoneskin before I manually wear it off to continue having defense). Well I didnt use my two hour either, so I got careless, anyways I killed her today on second try, even easier than the night before I died, I didnt need to wait for the right day either, but it helps not to do it on the day theya re strongest, Blizzard IV and some abilities go through Blink, that's why she got me unexpected XD. I'm going to kill Ramuh now! RDM75/NIN37 Enhancing Sword + Joyeuse = Impossible to Gauge. All avatars can be soloed except Fenrir, I doubt Diabolos is soloable too.

So we got a pt together to do this today:

75 SAM/NIN
60 BLM/WHM
75 BLM/WHM
65 THF/NIN
66(67) PLD/WAR
63 RDM/BLM

Well the rdm was the leader of the pt, but he decided to leave us right before we even reached the Cloister of Tides, it was like right there. So we go in and then realize it's watersday with double water elemental. We choose to wait an hour for the next day, so we fight some DC's for the PLD who had 450 tnl and he leveled up. Then finally we were able to go in.

Well the fight seemed to be going pretty well at first, the mages were up at the top, the melee down below, the PLD took hate. It only took Leviathan to kill the Paladin like 3 minutes, I tried several times to SATA Dancing Edge off of the Sam so he could take hate but it wasn't working too well. So after he died it was just me and the Sam melees, and the 2 BLMS.

Everything was fine for a little bit but then he used Grand Fall which wiped out me (the THF), and the lvl 60 BLM who was serving as healer. So then it was down to the SAM and the 75 BLM.

Earlier I had given the SAM a bunch of my shihei so he used those to cast Utsusemi: Ni and Ichi on himself to effectively tank it. The Blm did Thunder IV doing 940 damage as soon as the SAM got TP and then the SAM took back hate with a weapon skill, they repeated this several times while Leviathan repeatedly used Spring Water.

Then when it was about 20% the BLM used chainspell and continuously casted Thunder IV until it died, so basically the SAM and the BLM duoed it but we all got the avatar ^^

how by chance did your BLM manage chainspell and why did you have a BLM as your only healer in an avatar fight and who the hell fights leviathan on waterday...

well hmm first of all it says we waited until watersday was over and second the fights are reltatively easy so it's not a big deal for a blm (if they're good) to main heal

BLM cant chainspell.
And if it's the RDM you're talking about, he would have Chainspelled thunder II :)

My friend and I made a total of three attempts to duo this tonight without success. We were BRD75 and RDM75. On our best try, we got it down to 6% before it spammed Spring Water and got back to around 30% in a matter of seconds. On that attempts we got him back down to around 10% but we ran out of time.

Tidal Wave is a killer! On every attempt we got hit with Tidal Wave for between 1300 and 1600 damage, killing my RDM friend. This was with Water Carol and Barwatera on.

We're determined to get it now that we came so close. It would be easy to get another person or two but where's the fun in that?

DONT GO ON WATERSDAY
# Nov 17 2005 at 7:14 PM Rating: Decent
Okay so i went in just now on watersday. My party was me 64 Redmage, 75 Bard, 75 Nin, 63 Blm, 74 Thf and a 70 War. We went in and were utterly pawning him the bard had water carol on and i had bar water up on everyone at +80 resistance. But uhm then Levianthan decides to be a jerk and goes and two hours us for the following damage:1814dmg to a 75 nin with bar water on...i was lucky for some reason i only took 976 after stone skin gave. The thf and the bard and me were the only ones left alive with them only takin 799 dmg. So the thf thinking fast vokes Leviathon and then i haste and heal everyone and the battle starts to look up again. But then at 1/5 hp the ******* uses Grand Fall which one shots our thf for 1167 dmg. Me being the healer get all the hate >< I chainspell healed and zoned as fast as I could. (thank god for chainspell stoneskin) I am now a humbler man. So the lesson learned here is never ever ever ever fight this guy on watersday unless u are just kinda suicidal. But ill get revenge...

Leviathan battle at Watersday, too hard??

Party setup:
PLD66
RDM67
WHM75
RNG65
BLM65
WAR65

For those who said killing him in Watersday is impossible, that's incorrect.

Just as my party entered the arena, it was a new Watersday. We decided to fight him anyways. First of all, the WHM cast protectra and shellra, we used food, and pulled Leviathan. We did not fight him in the circular arena. Instead, we pulled him to the curved stonepath. The mages were in the upper part, and melee farther down. First, the RNG pulled it with Shadowbind, and then I provoked it. It was going down pretty easily, although he was spamming Spring water (HP recover ability). At like 30% HP, it used Tidal Wave(2 HR), but it was very weak. It did around 200 damage. When all the mages ran out of MP, the BLM used Manafont to finish it off.

It was an easy fight, even during watersday. Mages should remember to bring MP drinks. I used a persikos' au lait, and both the WAR and RNG used damage food.

I hope this helps~

I would have one, no prob, but he Tail Whipped me and it gave me Gravity! GRAVITY! So I was WALKING down the damn ramp for the rest of the battle -_- I barely got halfway down before he killed carby. So I'm walking like a snail and I'm getting hit. if he had hit me 1 LESS times than he did i woulda pwned him ; ; I hate this b****!

Fought this last night. Party set up was:

SMN 58 i think
PLD(me) 65
NIN 60
BLM 56 i think
WHM 62
SAM 61

First fight we lost, we think it was because we went in on waters day.. ya stupid idea. But the second time we won here is how we did it:

The nin main tanked because this is something blink is better for. I stood between the Avatar and the nin. I kept my hate up, right below his incase he went down. I would also cover him when he was in red hp or when he had troubles with shadows. I died because i covered him and Levithan did some crit hits and then some move on me call ground strike for about 750 dmg. I think the SMN also died from Levithans 2 hr. Whm kept Barwater up (VERY important). Levithan likes to spam Spring water, that reallly sucks because it would always do it right before it died. Finaly the blm got thunderga II off before it could use it again and we won ^_^ i'm happy now becaue i can sick Levithan on bunnys in west ron with my level 8 smn.

i just fought leviathan today and my smn skill was at 61 or 62...it has to be close to being capped, been working on it for a while. i got titan and ifrit, was knida hoping to get levi to make it 3-0 for the day... but just as carby was gonna use searing light, boom, tidal wave and tail whip... took carby out and i was right behind. it sucked, 0-2 against levi, 1-3 against titan and ifrit
