Would it be possible

Is it possible to sneak spawn it or anything?
Information Please!!

Hi Everyone

This is the first time I have ever posted on Alla. Any way to the point. Has anyone fought these enough to understand what their strengths and weaknesses are? My major concern is Treasures & Tribulations if we have to fight this, I just want to know my enemy.

Here is what I know they are light based, & hit hard and fast. Furthermore they have an AoE Poison Attack that is rather nasty plus draw in. What I would like to know is since they are light based are they vulnerable to sleep? If we chainspell drain anyone have any idea roughly how much damage a Red Mage lvl 49 could pull off on it with a mana dump-covert-mana dump, with around 800hp and 400mp..maybe 1/2 life, 1/4 life. or barely make a dent? Can you stun them with headbutt or the stun spell? Also I know it hard to say exactly due to their level range but in an educated guess roughly how many HP's do they have? Or is it all just futile and they resist everything you do?

I appreciate any help someone is willing to hand out!! Have a great day all and happy hunting.

Thanks

Well, went with a friend the other night to get the Beadeux coffer key where he can solo the coffer mobs and I'm on thf for TH2 (lvl 47). We thought to ourselves that if a coffer popped, I could attempt to pick it using living key to pop a mimic (killing will give key 100%). However, after a number of times i failed to open the first chest, i finally opened it only to get 10k. Second coffer got some useless item. The third time I popped the mimic (yes, we couldn't get the key off of normal coffer mobs cause of crappy drop rate), where I got my key then. Unless you got extraordinary amount of time on your hands, I would rather place my luck on the coffer mobs than on mimics to get my key.

hmm.. helping a buddy with his af, is there anyway to pop one of these on purpose... maybe kick it or something?
A fun experience
# Jan 14 2006 at 7:08 PM Rating: Good
I was in Garlaige helping a friend do the sleepga II prequest (70THF/35NIN (Me) and 75WAR/37NIN) And he aggroed a Tainted Flesh by accident, he lived with 64 HP and I tell him to heal, and I'll let him find me on the map when I get to the door. Along the way, I see a treasure coffer, I pick it, and out comes my first mimic. ; ;

I tried to run a bunch of times without realizing the draw in, and, with no warp cudgel, I said "***** it, I'm gonna fight it" (The WAR was at about 100 HP at this point.) I start fighting it, keep Utsusemi up, and start attacking, it had surprisingly low Accuracy, and with 203+45 Evasion, I killed it easily, got poisoned by it's special attack 1 shot before I killed it (The Poison does 10 damage a tick and takes a long time to go away) Luckily, a BST that was helping us with the gates was nearby, and he gave me a poisona since I forgot my antidotes. And ironically, it dropped a coffer key... Well, a tip to THFs 65+, if you get a mimic, and don't have a way out of it, don't panic, keep shadows up, and don't expect to take more than 200 damage, they have extremely low accuracy :D

Zvahl madness
# Dec 20 2005 at 2:53 AM Rating: Excellent
I just got a mimic trying to pick open a coffer in Castle Zvahl Baileys for my body AF. The first thing it did was poison and stun. I hit my panic macro (perfect dodge, wait 1, warp cudgel) but Perfect Dodge couldn't be activated because of the stun. It got me down to roughly 200 hp before I could finally get my 2-hour to work, warp, and enter my mog on the verge of dying. But I made it!

If you're gonna try to pick a coffer, have a panic macro and have your HP close to your mog house, because a mimic's poison is very nasty, you don't wanna warp and die in Jeuno.

I'm THF57/NIN28 and I was using Thief's Tools. My first experience getting a bad result with those.

sleep?
# Oct 18 2005 at 9:35 PM Rating: Default
Can you put them to sleep? To be more specific with sleep bolts or arrows? Maybe hord lullaby or blm spell sleep. It'd be really helpful fighting these suckers as a thf.

I am pretty sure about that mimic belong to the demon family since my Demon-Killer Job-Trait kicked in 2-3 times while fighting one in a skill-up/key party in Castle Zvahl Bailey when it was facing me.

Picking Locks

I know this may be a stupid question but I am a 30THF/15NIN do you have to be a certain level before you can pick a lock?
RE: Picking Locks
# Feb 18 2006 at 11:58 PM Rating: Decent
No. You can pick any lock with a level one THF. You might have an increased amount of failures of opening a lock with a level one THF, but eventually after at least 5-10 tries you should be able to open any lock. I would suggest using a living key for better results.

This website may say so, but.. these guys aren't Magic Pots. They belong to their own race, called the Mimic family. Oddly enough, they are the only member of their family, so Allakhazam just probably chose a random race to squeeze them in with.. I don't want to make this website look dumb, it's a fabulous website. I wouldn't have joined it if I thought otherwise. ^^ Just.. they aren't Magic Pots. I think I've made my statement clear, thanks for listening. :O

#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 04 2005 at 6:30 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) well. after it comes. will it stay there forever? or will it return back into a chest? because i was planning to purpously fail and unlock this monster into giddius and kill all necklace getters. but will it stay or go?

That's a pretty n00bish thing to ask, let alone do. Rate down. There's little money in the necklaces in AH, (tho that little can help newb players), people farming these are doing them for fame for Utsusemi quest, more often than not, something you will likely want to do down the road, so if you don't go the zinc ore route, you could very likely find yourself farming necklaces as well. And if you're trying to mpk rival farmer's, that makes you not only a n00b hypocrite, but puts you on the same level as gilsellers. {Congratulations}

btw, for those who don't know the difference between n00bs and newbs;

n00bs - can be any level from 1-75, but either have no idea how to play the game WITH other people, are complete asses, or (usually) both.

newbs - just a new player, doesn't know much but willing to learn.

only THF can pick locks?

Perhaps this is a noob question to ask, but I'm not an experienced THF player... Can you pick a coffer/chest as a THF sub?

Would it be possible switch the .dat of the mimic with something else so that you know if that chest is a mimic or not? I tried this by switching the regular chest .dat but it didn't change to what I set it to until after I opened it.
RE: hmmm...
# Mar 25 2006 at 12:14 PM Rating: Decent
No it wouldnt work because all chests are the same thing, and as you pick it it then becomes the other thing if you ***** up. Thus you still wouldnt know its a mimic until its too late.
RE: hmmm...
# Oct 26 2005 at 7:41 PM Rating: Decent
no it wouldnt because the mob becomes a mimic after you pick it so it wouldnt do anything until you pop the chest and get eating by a giant treasure monster.

hmmm. that might work, but that would make you a hacker. i dont know about all you people but I play this game because i love it. not because of competition, not just to say i did, not for work(gilselling); i play it for FUN. and i LOVE it, and hopefully if your playin it u love it too. and if you do, why are you hacking it? how could you do such a thing?!

I always thought mimic was a mimic of me, like a shade or spriggan.
Expected to be fighting another taru summoner or something when I read "mimic".

Fixed for rediculously horrible grammar and spelling; sorry, this was apparently one of my first posts. whoo

Mimics (like a LOT of other stuff) are WAY TOO obviously ripped off from the Dungeons and Dragons' monster, the Mimic, which in most pictorial representations are shown mimicing treasure chests. In D&D, of course, the Mimic can take ANY form, and has a couple of varieties (normal, killer)...

You say "ripped off" from DnD... but 90% of DnD stuff is "ripped off" from Tolkein or various mythologies, so...

RE: Level Range
# Oct 17 2005 at 12:27 AM Rating: Decent
the level range it says up there is the same in all areas. if you fail to pick a lock in a lvl 1 area, the mimic will still be lvl 50+

if u dont use a coffer or chest key theres a chance ull get a mimic depending on your stats and lvl,living keys r better for low lvl thiefs because as far as im aware they work on a percetage ratio that is not affected by stats, and as ive been told skelliton keys work using INT and theif tools work with DEX,<not completely sure this is theory only and not even my own> but if ur low enough to need a living key u probly wont get anything work the cost of the living key anyways, drawn in from what ive seen has a small reset timer so if a thief makes a fake run gets drawn in then flees and a zone is near by he can make it but the warp out is the best way. Mimics are SE's way of saying u dun ****** up boy :D
False information
# Feb 28 2005 at 3:36 PM Rating: Decent
Mimics can spawn from ANY failed pick, no matter what you're using. I've tried skeleton keys, living keys, and thief's tools, and I've gotten mimics from all of them. I suggest Thief Tools from my past experiences, but it's all luck (And possibly +INT gear) anyway. Good luck with your AF coffers, and make sure to bring a warp cudgel.

# Feb 22 2005 at 4:42 PM Rating: Decent
Up until lastnight I never had to deal with coffers, but I was doing my AF2 and the only thing available in the AH were living keys. I bought a stack, made my way to Monastic Cavern with the hubby and got lucky. All it took was one try, no mimic, and got my hands on the old gauntlets.

I realize I'm responding to an old post, but for any perusing this thread who don't know, and at least as far as I know, when you're trying to get either THF AF, or old gauntlets for any job, which you can do by picking the lock as thf, picking is 100% success rate, giving you the item you're after. I may be wrong, but experience from full thf AF, as well as old gauntlets for 3 jobs (I lvld rdm before thf was high enough for coffers) tells me i'm right. It probably says the same thing in thief forum, but i haven't looked there.

I got one of these bad boys in monastic cavern at level 45. I saw an unattended coffer (no orcs looking i mean) and went for it. The surprising part is that i got it using thieve's tools. I was under the assumption that tools didn't pop mimics. Beware guys.

Needless to say, his AoE curse/stun got me. Orcs saw me before my stun wore off, so i died before i could 2hr/warp. I got sent back to HP with about 700 less exp but a stack of mythril and a couple gold coins in my pockets^^;
