Super Jump?

I was wondering what would happen with a mimic if a drg used Super jump on it right after it agros. Would it just resume beating the crap out of the drg when he landed? Or does it only agro from the failed chest opening?

Only thiefs can attempt to pick a lock, therefor its ipossible for drg to do anything :( sry

However, dragoons can do the BCNM50 quest that involves mimics, so the question is still valid. I'd be curious to know the answer to this as well.

Well i've never seen super jump used on a mimic, but unlike Thief's Hide, it doesn't clear all hate/aggro (i.e. if there's no one else that has hate the monster will look around stupidly for a few seconds and then start attacking the dragoon again). But, if you have your wyvern out and are engaged with the mimic when you Super Jump, when you come back down your wyvern should take hate (assuming you turn around before hitting the mimic again) and you might be able to disengage and get back to the burning circle before it kills your wyvern and comes after you. I've never tried this with a monster that has draw-in capabilities, but in theory it should work.

Ok, here's my story about the encounter of the mimic (dum dum dummmm)

My Fiance (Ulyses, pld) needed his coffer key in eldieme, and he wanted to spawn a mimic with a living key to do so. So I offered to help, whipping out my lv9 (yes, 9 lol) thf to be the sacrifice. We had a lv56rng/nin, lv55pld/war(Ulyses) lv75pld/war,and a lv60something whm/blm. We head there, sneak up and at the lower areas we find one, first time I just get weakened (fyi, if a thf fails to open a coffer they can also get weakened) found one RIGHT behind the gravestone (the one next to the room with all those invisible holes you can fall down) of course it starts with a AOE stun, kills me. I get raised, stand up, hit it, died. My 4th death during battle my fiance raises me and I see him starting to do AOE. I'm so sneaky sneaky I'll run from it, I dodge it! Get aggroed by a Haunt, he does Stone III (I believe) and kills me automatically. Let's just say the mimic is a push over, wasn't hard AT ALL. Also I heard another coffer spawns about 5minutes after a mimic spawn, because Ulyses got his old gaunlets right afterwards.

Thanks to Trawker(rng/nin, aka titro^^) Ulyses, Eddarsdark (pld/war,you rule man^^) annnnd that whm/blm

You cannot run from a mimic. Until you're level 70+ (thf), you must either 2hr + Instant Warp or die. After level 70, it is possible to solo them if you have maxed Marksmanship and Evasion.

If you are in a party lev 60+ it isn't very difficult to kill a mimic. A mimic will always drop a coffer key, I don't think they drop anything else.

A Thf can get a mimic when using any type of key. From my experience, Living Keys, being the worst keys to use, have the best chance of spawning a mimic. However it is possible to get a mimic using Thf tools or even Skeleton Keys, you just have a smaller chance of getting one.

Mimics spawn using either Thief tools or Living keys. I don't know if Skeleton Keys will spawn them or not.
You cannot run from it. It draws you in and you can't go anywhere.
It poisons you instantly.
Best way to escape is Perfect dodge + Instant warp.
If in a party setting, the entire PT will be poisoned, but if they do NOT engage it, it will disappear after either killing the THF, or the THF warps out.

I've been killed by them twice in Monastic Caverns, while attempting to pick the coffer for my AF gloves and twice in Beadeaux, using Thief tools each time.

I also believe the coffer re-spawns instantly if it's a mimic. Because after being raised in Beadeaux the first time, I found it in another area not 5 minutes later, and the same after it spawned on me the 2nd time.
I didn't even attempt to pick it the 3rd time I saw it.

So i'm in monastic caverns looking for a coffer for my AF. After 30 minutes i find one! Awesome i feel successful. Oh ????, mimic on first thieves tools. Perfect dodge and flee (because i was idiotic and forgot the instant warp scroll). To my surprise, i start running away and "The Mimic draws you in." Oh crap it really is a nightmare. Died after 40 seconds.

Should always pick coffers with an instant warp scroll and perfect dodge 2hr ready.

Lucky enough i came back an hour later and got the old gauntlets on the first thieves tools on the new coffer.

And i'm just curious, anyone have a good estimated level that these things could be solo'd? Nobody has really said anything specific about soloing these things. Thanks.

This ability of mobs to draw you in is an ability certain player-characters have too. It simply has a different name. It's called: Provoke. ^^

The Mimic draws you in? how is that possible? did it keep you from running away, or something like bind?

I saw Bloodtear Baldruff do the "drawn in" thing on some poor guy... he must have mistaken it for a normal ram, as it was purple. I almost made that mistake too...

no, it has an ability that will draw you in if you move away from it. "The Mimic draws you in" is the text that will appear in the chat box. There is no way to escape from it. You could have a blm sleep it, then flee, PD, whatever, as soon as it wakes up, no matter where you are, it will draw you in. I'm not sure if this will happen if you are lucky enough to get to a zone while it is sleeping, but i doubt its possible. There usually arent chests around zones that i know of.

Hello,

I realize this is an old post, but I figure I would give my experience with this issue.

There is a coffer spawn in Ifrit's Cauldron close to a zone. I didnt have any warp, but I was feeling lucky that day and tried to pick the lock.

I picked the lock and got a mimic, I have got a mimic several times using Thief's Tools in the past.

Due to prior experience, I can't kill the mimic only level 54 Thf/whm at the time. I decided to wait and see if the Death Trap/Bind wears off. I got down to red hit points and no more mps, I used Perfect Dodge. To my surprise, bind wore off. I used flee and ran to zone. I almost made it to zone but a Dire Bat aggroed and ended up killing me a few feet from the zone. So close. The mimic never used any draw-in effect.

Only buffs I had with my /whm where protect 2, shell, regen, blink, and sneak on when I opened chest. I kept curing myself trying to by time and keep myself alive as long as possible.

I hope this information helps in some way, maybe get people thinking outside the box.

Good Luck and Happy Hunting :D

I am not sure what you are referring to as BS, but killing a Mimic will drop the coffer key 100% of the time.

Almost every single one of these drops a key to the coffer the thf was trying to pick ^^; LVL 72 thf was helping me get a coffer in casle vhazl bailey's for close to 2 hours without a key drop. We were about to leave and she picked the coffer we had found, and out popped a mimic. We killed it with relative ease and there was my key. If all else fails, have a thief pick the lock before you leave ^^ Thanks bunny!!!

I hate these guys. i have yet only been killed by one so far, but then again, i have only gotten 3 coffers. i got it in castle oztroja and killed me in a around 30 seconds. so so far for me i am 1/3 on mimics and 2/3 of succesfull w/o a mimic. the only way to escape these is to get a high lvl party, and i mean very high or to use perfect dodge + instant teleport. ill be back coffer hunting in oztroja once i get 56 so i can wear 3 of my Af which adds to steal so i can get gold coins and ill have better chances of succesfully oppening a coffer.

Skeleton keys as well
# May 17 2004 at 5:00 PM Rating: Decent
Description needs to be updated. It spawns when a THF fails to pick a chest/coffer w/ ANY key. W/ Skeleton keys, you usually wont get a Mimic until about the 3rd or 4th failed attempt. BTW, the poison they give you when they spawn does 20hp per 2 seconds.

These are not Magic Pots. Magic Pots are gigantic hovering vases with creepy eyes that hum loudly but are generally immobile when not attacked.

Mimics look more or less like treasure chests, except where there should be treasure there is a gaping, fanged maw. These spawn whenever a thief fails to pick a lock using a Living Key, and as such can spawn in any dungeon that has coffers/chests (to name a few: Ordelle's Caves, Maze of Shakrami, Gusgen Mines, Ghelsba Fort, Boyadha Tree, Quicksand Caves, Crawler's Nest, Garliage Citadel, etc. etc. etc)

They're pretty hairy beasts. They attack very fast and do some unpleasant-looking AOE attack that I was fortunate not to feel (I was watching as 3 adventurers in full AF or better fought on in Boyadha Tree)

Their level appears to be at least equal to or higher than that of the THF that attempted to pick the lock. They're meant to kill the THF. ^^

From what I can tell if a chest/coffer pick fails and a Mimic spawns, another chest/coffer spawns within the next 2-3 minutes in a different spot. If the THF has survived the encounter with the Mimic they are free to attempt another pick on the new chest/coffer, or a witness to the fight can beat them to the spot easily and open it with the appropriate key. ^^

Yeah, they probably come under the same classification as pots, i.e Arcana.

But that's just my speculation. :)

Funny pic btw.

A Magic Pot is a pot that sits quietly until you use magic and then tries to kill you.

A Mimic is a treasure chest that pretends to be a normal chest until you try to get treasure from it, and then it tries to kill you.

I can see the similarity, can't you?

:)

So an Elemental is a Magic Pot too, right? xP

I think Mimics and Magic Pots would make up a good 'evil household objects' mob type.
