Tungs'iton Picture

This Tonberry is fought in a BCNM battle during Zilart Mission 4. Fights alongside Grav'iton and Molyb'iton. It begins battle with a random elemental pet; and even if the pet is slain, it will use Astral Flow at 50% HP to inflict massive damage to anyone within range. Highly resistant to Silence and Aspir. Can be Sleeped easily however.

This one will be on the far left with a pet (for us it was lightspirit but that may not always be the case). He was relatively easy. My advice is to kill Grav'iton first and then pull his pet. His pet is very low on the hp side and a fairly easy kill. After killing the pet proceed directly to killing him. It is important you keep his pet and him asleep or they will be a nuisance. After waking up, his pet went straight for our whm. Luckily, Ramuh was ready to thunderspark it and knocked off 1/3 of his hp. After Molyb'iton murdered our pld, I used astral flow and tidal waved the smn. It knocked off 1/2 of his health and finished off his pet. He's not a hard NM but he can be a problem if you don't keep him asleep.
tonberries = physicists?

Anyone notice odd similarities about these names?

Molyb'iton - Molybdenum, (Mo)atomic number 42.
Tungs'iton - Tungsten, (W) atomic number 74.
Grav'iton - Gravitons are, theoretically, the elementary particles (a particle that forms bigger particles, like quarks > electrons, neutrons, and protons > atoms) of gravity, when described in a (normally) quantim gravity system. Quantum gravity tries to unify quantum mechanics (which describes three fundamental forces: strong nuclear force, weak nuclear force, and electromagnetic force) with general relativity (which describes an additional force: gravity.)

Okay, I'm done. Haha. I can't really relate all three together, but they are all very "sciencey" (how technical of me.)

*SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*

At the End of the BC, Grav'iton the mage comes out, and says shes like a spirit of some sort. Kinda sounds like what the OP was stating in the Graviton definition.

Bah, still, Grav'iton has a great theme.....

Slight Spoilers if you haven't done ZM4...

Anyways, if I remember right, the Tonberry actually were a highly advanced race before they were forced into hiding and devolved into lizard things. As such, yes, probably those names may have something to do with the fact that Tonberry are supposed to be friggin' geniuses...

detail* XD

**Edit**- I forgot to mention the title you recieve from doing the tonberry hate reset quest its something like "Honorary Doctorate in Tonberry..." something or another i forget how it ends, just something to add to your science theory ^^

PS Quadavs are stones, Yagudo are like Roman/Greek type names, and Orcs are like cavemen type names. Each race seems to have a running theme with their names.
ex.:
Ruby Quadav is a RDM, Darksteel Quadav is a PLD
Yagudo Theologist is a BRD (I think?)
Orcish Bowshooter is a RNG, Orcish Gladiator is a MNK.

Pay more attention to the mob's name and maybe you can figure out what type it is before you fight it. Also maybe there is a link to the types of names each race has?
