General Information

  • At a certain time after Kirin is spawned, he will begin to summon weaker versions of Seiryu, Genbu, Suzaku, and Byakko. There is no order as to which one will be spawned first.

  • Has an auto-regen effect.

  • Grants title: Kirin Captivator

Kirin Special Attacks

  • Stonega IV: Strong AoE Earth based magic damage. (Circle of effect originates from spell target)

  • Stone V: Strong single target Earth based magic damage.

  • Quake: Strong single target Earth based magic damage.

  • Rasp: Single target Earth based DoT that reduces target's Dexterity.

  • Sleepga: AoE Sleep Magic. (Circle of effect originates from spell target)

  • Deadly Hold: Strong single target physical damage.

  • Tail Smash: Single target physical damage with Bind additional effect.

  • Great Whirlwind: Single target magic damage with Choke additional effect.

    • Carbuncle: Searing Light

    • Ramuh: Judgment Bolt

    • Shiva: Diamond Dust

    • Ifrit: Inferno

    • Titan: Earthen Fury

Historical Information

Qilin (Kirin in Japanese) was a creature in Chinese mythology said to have the head of a dragon, the antlers of a deer, the scales of a fish, the hooves of an ox, and the tail of a lion. It is said that the Qilin is a benevolent creature, only becoming violent when a good person is threatened by a sinner, in which, among other ways, it will attack the sinner by breathing fire.

While the dialogue spoken by Kirin when he is spawns suggests that he is one of the Shijin of East Asian mythology (see Seiryu, Suzaku, Genbu, and Byakko), he is never in actuality associated with them, but is another prominent creature.

that is because a lot of people feel that you can measure a linkshells success based on how fast they kill things. Faster =/= good linkshell. Just means they have the proper jobs to do it and blowing out 2 hours and whatever. Not every linkshell is geared that way with those jobs. When you do it with tactical burn style it leaves a very small margin of error to where one person can mess it up or you get really unlucky. I have heard stories of shells doing TP burn and kirin did stonega IV followed by tidal wave and completely obliterated the alliance. All 2 hrs were gone and used and they lost their pop items due to kirin depop. I'd rather take it slow and stead, you rush things it less room to deal with things that can happen

congratulations. . .how many days do u play already ? Kirin is years old, from a time when the 3 great wyrms and sea didn't exist, when krakens or abjurations were a rare sight, merit's didnt exist along with many other abilities or equipment. He was meant as a challenge for that time, same as Behemot was once hard to kill. Times did and do change, your "challenge" Vrtra or AV will sooner or later turn into joke as well and make place for others to come.

And besides, even after all the time 1 thing about kirin did NOT change, the fact that stonegaIV or stonegaIV+ astral flow is beyond devastating.

Edit: there's ls's plainly kraken&souleater burning Tiamat for a lil cash.

Well, there were many skeptics that thought our beastly ls could not do it. Yes, it was a fight that was ages in the making. At dawn we ate the best cuisine, made love to our significant others, and threw on the finest armour for what could have been the last time (forget raises). As the sun rose in full splendor, the gleam on the brass and steel matched the shimmering tears of our kin.

The fellowship of the beast otherwise known as LordsoftheBeasts, gathered at the divine grounds of the gods. These brave beastmasters and honorary bsts (rdm and whm) entered the dominion of the GOD of gods with one united message, "Kirin: we've come to kick your arse!"

Undeniably, Kirin did not stand idly by. Left and right, we saw the horrific events unfolding...pop Byakko...pop Seiryu...pop Suzaku...and the montrous rock known as Genbu. We fought with all we could muster as blood and sweat mixed with an unsavory taste, the bitter taste of death.

One by one we heroes fell, and just as quickly another was there to take one's place. Spectators were present just to gawk and jeer at us in such an unsightly way. We did not give in, we could not forsake the promise we made to everyone who said the brethren of LOTB could not succeed. It was our commitment, nay our destiny to prove unto us and the world that an even the gods were no match for our beastmaster power.

Little by little Kirin's strength was waning, Courier Carries, Panzer Galahads, Fungar Familiars, Lifedrinker Larses, Chopsuey Chuckies, and Amigo Sabotenders flanked him from all sides....piercing his every orifice. Even this ultimate deity eventually bowed down and conceded defeat. We won one for the clipper...err...I mean gipper.

Tired, hungry, and in need of some lovin', we marched out to our respective nations as comrades-in-arms as we looked up to the sky above Sky and cherished the moment.

.........so.........what is next for these great warriors? Only time will tell, and it will say that --------> LOTB RULES, FTW!

Having done my first battle with Kirin last night, it's not unusual to see non-allianced groups/parties on the playing field. For our purposes, we had a separate group just for the summons he spawned...they had to be non-allianced for the provoker to Call For Help (CFH), then the spare members took care of the summons, while the main alliance kited Kirin. Many of our group was rotated in and out as needed during the long battle. We did *3* Kirins last night. @.@

fought him a second time today. drops where osode and dryadic body. second time was much harder. he went on a few rampages and his hp stayed still for 45 mins at a time.

Uh then strait tanking doesnt help you if it takes you an hour. My LS on Bismark uses 2 kites and thats all we do, tow him around, he has too many stun/bund/sleep and AoE moves to be smart strait tanking it. Between me and the other kite NIN/WAR and WAR/NIN, we might die 1-2 the whole time and thats cuase we goof off. We kill him everyweekend and everytime in 30-45mins. KITING. Dont change what works.
Get 2 good kites stack +20 enmity and go at it.

Pole: 2/3
Shining Cloth: 1/3
D. Body: ...3/3

No idea why we keep getting that and nothing else, but it was the only thing to drop from our first one.

I have fought Kirin twice personally and for my LS it dropped the second time along with a Raise III scroll. First one gave us an Osode. I heard the droprate for the abjuration isn't that common, so take note of that. If it's common... then have fun getting the togi :)

Took my LS less than an hour both times. Fun fight.

Just to clarify this discussion of Absolute Virtue:
BlueGartr did NOT spawn AV and has not even killed JoL. JoL was killed by an alliance of some JP and NA linkshells on Pandemonium server.

AV automatically spawns after JoL dies. It's most common spells are Tornado II, Aeroga IV, Aero V, Meteor, and Comet. All of which are insta-cast. It's believed he uses all 2-hrs and is highly resistent to magic and most physical damage. However, Chi Blast, Spirits Withim, and an Aegis'(AF Shield) Shield Bash seemed to do moderate damage. The main issue was its powerful magic and insane regen. It recovered 1000 damage almost as fast as it was dealt.

About SE being able to beat it. You know they are in a practice field with nothing on it, using characters whom they artificially maxed out on everything, merit points, gear, etc. They also created the beast so they know exactly what to do and what not to do to kill it. Not a very good barometer of whether or not a group of players will be able to beat it with the vague and otherwise lacking information they have.

I'm curious, has anyone here ever seen, or fought AV (Absolute Virtue)? I've heard about him not too long ago, and from what I hear, he's unbeatable. He is basically immunie to melee, magic, bard song's, etc. He has never been beaten on any sever, and even full alliances of 100 players (each lvl 75) couldn't put a dent in him.

I guess this is a God... but he is like the Ultimate-God, like he's not meant to be defeated or something. I'm guessing Square probably place some kind of secret in the game to beating him... just hoping someone will find it soon. ^^;

Absolute Virtue was spawned not too long ago. It spawns after Jailer of Love dies (i think JoL), by (i think) blue Garter. Which server it was on though i dont remember. I know there have been numerous links posted all over that give the links to an insane long message board that was being updated during JoL fight.

AV was a huge suprise to them, and wiped them all with some insane spells.

Yeah, it was Blue Gartr (think they teamed up with a JP ls-Feather?) killed JoL which popped AV. To kill JoL they had loads of BLMs and kept rotating them for continuous nuking. Couldn't get AV past 98% or something, uses all 2 hours tier2 AM, insta-cast Meteor..(the list goes on), and is gonna take a while for any ls to take down for a while.

My LS just fought Kirin for the first time and won after 2:25hrs. We had around 40-50 people there (99% of which have never seen/fought Kirin before). Numbers for each may be off but had about 5 BLMs, 2 or 3 RNG, 3 NIN, 1 SMN, 4 or 5 PLDs, and then the rest. LOTS of death. Namely in the beginning with the 4 Gods summoned (one at a time). Several deaths there, but after the last was killed... deaths just kept rolling constantly. At around 50% health, we finally got the hang of it somewhat. Deaths started to simmer down, maybe 1 every 5min average. Sometimes less sometimes more. PLDs were kiting it for most of the fight after SMNs. So it was inevitable that they were gonna die at some point. Around the last 1/3 hp, it stopped casting spells. Is it possible for mobs to run out of MP?

It dropped the Osode, Pole, and Wyrmal legs abj. Pretty good drops apparently compared to what I've read about.

kirin takes 36 people to beat comfortably, that means kicking and inviting another full alliance when other members die or w/e.
it's one of the most planned out battles anyone will have to comfront, you need certain jobs to stand here and do this. blah blah blah
kirin is a tough mother but if you plan it right and have skilled players it goes smooth

There is a thing called a Linkshell that is how you get these people together. You say 18 people, try more like around 36 people. I know some can do it with less, and I know some need more, but 36 is the average for Kirin.

There are -much- harder mobs in the game then kirin.

Wow, dude you're an idiot... lol, its called an HNM/gods linkshell, and normally you need more than 18 lv75 ppl to beat Kirin, I'm in fact omw to fight him with my LS for my first time :)
You don't gather random 18 lv75(Well, prolly need more anyway) ppl, they're normally already willing to go, being in the LS and all, and besides, making a mob higher than the normall limit carries some pride to beat... Plus the items... but mainly, you can say, "my LS beat Kirin!"

Plus any lv75+ limit quests would suck, subjobs would change everything, lv75 limit is fine where it is. Honestly man... <.<
(btw: ppl xp off mobs that are 75+ at like lv 66+ or so, not sure)

Edit: My god. . . We did horrible, lol... Killed little gods, easy, kited kirin, easy, people very very rarely died, however we didn't do enough dmg. Kirin barely went below 90% HP, his regen is crazy, but he normally stayed in 96-99% HP. I was playin on my GBA (golden sun, good game) most of the time w/ my friend also in the LS lol, and then we saw they had given up because kirin was chasing everyone unclaimed, lol... So we wasted like 6hrs

My LS took him down for our first time Sunday evening. From what I heard before the update, he wasn't too bed - RNGs and BLM (Yes, Please). After the update... he's a beast. RNGs do nothing to him, BLM and SMNs were the only way we made it through.

He welcomed us to Kirin fighting by popped all 4 mini gods in 20 minutes. At the time we were finishing Byakko, Genbu as up and Seiryu was spawning.

Also, the 2nd full hour of the fight was earthsday - tanks were one shotting every spell. If Stonega hit you and you weren't a PLD, you were dead.

Astral Flow only killed 2 people but took everyone in alliance to below 300 HP. I attribute that to our using Bio before Astral Flow to weaken it's attacks.

He has massive HP regen, worse than I've ever seen (maybe worse than Aspi). We counter it by consistently keeping him Bio'd before Astral, and Dia/Poisioned afterwards.

PLD tanks kited him along a set path, Gravity was a must. Have SMNs constantly buff PLDs. PLDs must keep hate from BLM, who will be unloading on him. BLMs just nuke away, disband, heal, repeat. Random melees come in and WS or use abilities. BLM will be the main DD after the update.

We beat him after 4 hours... truly an amazing experience after we were sure a wipe was at hand, and one of our more experienced white mages had told me to consider packing it up. Our drops rewarded us: Shining Cloth, Kirin's Pole, Damascene Ingot and N. Body Abjuration. Congratulations AncientsXI on your victory over Kirin!

bio has nothing to do with how strong astral flow will hit you -_-, it is a considred a magic attack.

Wouldn't wanna SC: Dark and heal him ^^;;

OK, silly question here.
Does Kirin use riddle? The manticore max MP down move?

Yea I know its dumb, and its probably the least of your problems, after dealing with Stonega XVI or whatever crazy stuff he uses.

We did Kirin tonight, the fight went as it normally does for us and most people, a death here and there but nothing major. Strangely for this particular fight... Astral Flow seem unusually stronger than normal and killed quite a few of us, but we managed to recover with proper strategy. After the smoke cleared, my Osode was one of the few items that dropped ^_^

The Japanese unicorn, an animal-god who punishes the wicked with its single horn. It protects the just and grants them good luck. Seeing a kirin is considered an omen of extreme good luck - if one is a virtuous person.

Kirin, i guess you could say its good luck to see him, if hes unclaimed :D
