In Greek Mythology, Alkyoneus was a member of a race of giants known as the Gigantes, created from the blood spilled after the god Chronos castrated his father Uranus. While within the lands of Pallene, which was his homeland, he was immortal, which is why, during the great battle known as the Gigantomachy, he was forced across its borders and slain by Heracles.

Alkyoneus is one of the royal Uranos, who are worshiped amongst the Gigas. Out of all the Uranos brothers, he is the largest and the toughest. The Gigas boast that not even god can kill him.

Moldy Buckler drop rate is rare. I think was about 1/20ish. Pallas is definitely harder than Alkyoneus. I got triggers and soloed both as 75NIN/THF and lucky for me there was a SMN nearby curing me. Pallas is harder because his pet bat eats utsusemi and takes about 3 WS's to kill. Just ask the other real campers to help kill the bat and they gladly will help any non-RMT.

Alkynous is easy but if he spams his lightning breath move, he can be hard. I recommend taking potions unless you have a healer.

The RMT don't dominate the area like people say at least on Siren. There were plenty of gigas and the ??? was up for several minutes.

^ what the title says.

I got to solo Pallas first and many times as the buckler won't drop that often. Pallas was a tad difficult but if you pay attention and do everything right you can do it. Alky is higher level so I was worried about soloing him. Alky turned out to be easier than Pallas.

Pallas was hitting something like 65 and his bat about the same for 120 each round. Alky was hitting for something like 92 every round except for his 133 ish mighty strikes attacks. Easy Prey.

EDIT: another thing that makes Pallas a little harder to kill, is the fight area. You have to clear 1 - 3 bats depending on which is in the way and clear some gigas. If there is heavy farming you are in the clear. Otherwise, I had to kill the 2 incubus bats by the stairs to alky and the bats in the middle. Then killed one or two gigas in the path. Then pulled pallas before others can repop (pulled to stairs going up). I only have to do all that clearing if i'm alone. It's actually easier if others are there killing stuff.

I've been making my way up to Upper Delkfutt's Tower, never really expecting any profit on these ventures. Some of the other farming camps I visit are too weak and offer little challenge or amusement so often I bring myself up here to sharpen my skills and never let my daggers get a dull edge. Honestly, farming the Moldy Buckler is a hassel most times. I went up there and killed for 3 hours before getting one, and thats the norm usually. Jotunns up there are a joke. With the proper status bolts, EVA gear, and shadow casting skills. I can take on three Jotunn without dipping into the yellow, and when things get ugly I can pop hide if I really wanted to. This THF doesn't like running from a fight, hell no! I only ever have slight problems with the Jotunn Hallkeepers (Monk Type Gigas's). I kinda cringe when I get one because I know I will be using some Bloody Bolts on it and those things are more of a GilSink then a Buckler Dropper so often times I avoid those all together. The area up there usually contains about 2-8 players solo'ing regularly. If you think you can't hang, do a search for Qufim Island region to get a feel for how crowded the camp is before going. Great thing about this place is that its a Outpost Warp away and a 5 minute walk to camp up the tower using a key. Once there, its Jotunn Mayhem. I'm grabbing them left and right and slaughtering them. One after one, Gigas sock after Gigas Sock, Kindred Seal after Beastmen Seal, just endless hours of boredom farming until finally it drops. You all know the feeling. You instantly tab "I" to check your inventory for space just to make you have room for the buckler and the Alky Brac. when it drops. Then, its up to the 12th floor. As you make your way up the staircase, suddenly, the ******** on your server come out. Their one goal is to MPK you and steal a popped mob that you work so hard to get and they will do just about anything to get it. I've seen taru's die next to me while they had two Incubus Bats on them. MPK attempt? Coincidence? I think not! I've seen a thief Flee and gather all the Jotunns on the twelth floor, get up next to me and pop hide. I mean come on, that the best you can do... "Dajabola" Yes, I know who you are. The same maggot that later said "Sorry, I wouldn't do that to you!" in /say mode. If your going to be flagerant and deliberate about it, atleast have the balls to not apologize about something you meant to do. You're weak bro. If your gonna MPK, do it and don't look back. Now, I have your characters balls in my Assassin's Vest pouch. When I get back to the woodworking guild, im going to have my friend craft a plaque and Im going to hang your nuts above the fountain in my windy mog house. I run up and pop Alky's punk ***. Too me, he's weak. He's like a Porphyrion except he don't drop a Delkfutt Key. What a punk. For me, its all about EVA and bloodyBolts. Let another THF tell me its about haste and they get a slap. I've counted two thieves with haste builds wipe and I get the claim. I have not died once with a trusty EVA setup and I never use perfect dodge. Alkyoneus uses Mighty Strikes, Oh No! Brock casts Utsusemi: Ni. Damn, that takes care of that. Bloody and Blind bolt this fool to 1%... Moment of truth! Ah @#%^, "you find a Mohagany Shield on Alkyoneus" God!@%^ it, piece of !@^& mutha !@#!in clown. Back to farming. Did this a couple times and then one lucky lucky night, I managed to net two in one night. FFXIAH.com search for 'Brock', Bam!!! close to 1,600,000mil for a 6 hour stint. After selling the items, I went to the Merry Minstral and toasted a tall pilsner glass of my favorite San'dorian brew. "Cheers to the peckers who tried to steal from me, Cheers to Alky for not being a !@%^& for once, and Cheers to my new found wealth." I head back to the MH and find two sexy elvaaness's waiting for me. Treasure Hunter helped get the Alky Brac. to drop twice, maybe it will also help me drop some underwear off these two cuties who knows. Alky, I'll be back at you again soon. You and the rest of the "A"holes...
RDM/NIN
# Dec 14 2007 at 12:08 PM Rating: Decent
Killed him today as rdm/nin. Took roughly 20 minutes to take him down. Really an easy fight if you know when to fight and when to turn and run. Any time my shadows and stoneskin went down at the same time I'd bind him and run to the other side of the room. Just keep doing your regular rdm/nin stuff and eventually he'll fall. Only time I was ever in any danger is when Lightning Roar hit me when my stoneskin was down and I dropped to 300 hp. All I got were some socks and a mahogany shield but still a really fun fight.
Alkyeoneus
# Nov 07 2007 at 7:19 PM Rating: Decent
/sigh... Alkyeoneus is simply pathetic in my opinion. I mean at times the pop item Moldy Buckler can seem like a hassle to get, and at other times its like, kill 1... "Moldy Buckler drops off <insert Gigas name here>".

Me and my dad always take on Alkyeonus. I am 9/21 on him so far. Mostly because i can time when to pop him and when to kill him using the Moon Phases etc. Honestly when it comes right down to getting the drop, just use the Moon Phases as a guide to getting it.

Just owned Alky for the fifth time as THF75/NIN37. EVA Skill 257 +35 evasion. Barely used any bloodies. 1/5 ~900k on my server^^. Not that bad of a fight, just takes some intelligence and skill with shadows.
Higher than 75
# Aug 20 2007 at 12:58 PM Rating: Decent
Not by much. I soloed him as RDM/NIN and got an odd 140 exp. If I'm not mistaken, if he was 75, and I was 75, I would have got 100 exp, no?

Anyways, it was a long fight (But very fun), at least 20 min, maybe even 25 min, and no drop.

Alky
# Aug 13 2007 at 11:52 AM Rating: Decent
Well we got the buckler to pop Alky and we had doubts and didn't know if we could kill him w/ just 3 people so we talk it over and decide to fight it and might as well try so we clear the stairs of the bats and our DRG goes to pop it no aggro on the way which is good

Setup: 75DRG/WHM 71BLU/NIN 75BLM/RDM

We did really well and killed him he wasn't as hard as we thought and from what I saw he doesn't have good acc but I was to far away to notice and his 2 hour did the most damage when he got a hit off but he was easy and no one died =D

So it's been a habit of mine to attempt to push Paladin as far as I can possibly go. I solo things like Novv the Whitehearted and similar NM's. I set about trying to solo Alky.

I was finally able to do so and I have my Ice Trousers and Ice Shield to thank for that win. Subbed Ninja and I brought medicines with me just in case I was getting really jacked up(Vile Elixir+1 and a bunch of Hi-Pots.)

Took me a while and I had to fight him on the stairs inbetween levels but I was able to take him with 93 HP & 8 MP left. I had to use all of the medicine I had, but it was definitely worth it. No drop as usual though.

Nah there's way too many spawns up there. Between the RMT's and the honest players camping they can't get all of them. Interesting sidenote, a friend and I duo'ed him as Pld/War and Drg/Rdm just to see if we could do it. Absolutely pummelled him.

um, no... it's not the RMT that raise the prices, its all the other greedy nonRMTs (people in HNMLS mostly ^^). RMTs drop prices to move more items, hell they undercut themselves trying to sell their **** faster. SE should make the drop r/ex as well ^^ no more greed.

Um...... Yea. I solo'd Alkyoneus as DRK/NIN with Blind bolts, bloody bolts, acid bolts, constant reshadowing and such. Dread spikes came into play a lot. and Drain and DrainII(new one) helped a lot too. I needed to 2hour at one point but yea alky is a serious pushover. Pallas is harder believe it or not because of the charm.

For any good SAM worth half a damn... Yes these are well worth it!
im 75 SAM, and STR obsessed... im Hume with with 70+66 STR when using food, right now im using Hachiman Kote and im working on getting these to boost that up to 70+73. Now any good SAM will tell you that the higher your STR the more possible damage you will do on WS, so whereas my WS damage atm is capped at around 1450, with these it will probably up that cap to around 1550-1600.
As soon as i heard that these were becoming force pop, i nearly s**t my pants! ive been camping him for the last 4 days straight trying to get ToD, but now SE have finally made it so i can get them without that much effort, and not to mention ******** over the RMT while they were at it!! /dance :D
Oh and another thing, just so you know a 75 NIN/THF/BST/RDM can solo this guy np

Alkyoneus is spawned in the same spot he popped at before using a rare ex item called a Moldy Buckler. The Moldy Buckler dropped on my first Jotunn Gatekeeper killed after Maintenance ended. I popped Alky using it, no drop... Will edit later to tell of repop on the ???

Edit: 15min repop on ???

Lean back and watch the nin75/war solo him !

Blu75/nin
THF75/nin
RDM75/nin
Nin75/???
Mnk75/nin

Those classes can definitely solo him. Other high Eva/def Classes or with healing abilities should be able to solo him (or with NPC healer) like sam/nin, maybe whm/nin etc. PLD, as only class, would be able to plainly armor tank him without utsusemi granting he has dmg reduction/vit/def gear like koenig/kaiser/etc and some mp regen food (yags/ether).

Edit: make sure you pull Alky to either the stairs or the <Stellar Fulcrum> zone to avoid magic aggro from the dolls if you wish to have the whm assist the nin or you'll find yourself with a buncha dolls beating you to a pulp (or Meltdown-fry you).

alky + pallas
# Apr 25 2006 at 10:51 AM Rating: Good
ok there lot of ppl who have there own opions about these NM pop window. i can say from expericne ( 50+ kill on each) that:
1: neither pallas or alky have any PH, the just pop
2: there both aproz 21-24 if not exact ( never seen them pop out side that window)
3: i do not think there linked in any way. i have SS of me and my freinds fighitn both pallas and alky on the steps at the same time

i am not saying that neither can not pop outside window but ive never seen it.

our normal setup is RDM, NIN, THF. Since a RMT team has recently start camping against us wiht 7+ ppl our pull strat is pretty simple... NIN climas as son as pops runs to hallway ( links and all) then 2 hours while the RDM pull NM out of horde of mobs and the rest will despawn. PRior to the MPK mob vahishe fix we would clear room and pull to steller flcrum port and kill there as is easy to not get MPKed there.

as far as the fight vs ALKY.. it very easy, hes slow but does hit hard when he lands hit and power attack and his thunder roar AOE hurt. Would suggest somkind of healer to assist you if you are a melle and /nin or nin main is a must if your tanking this, seen very few PLDs that can not get ripped to shreads by alky, ( there a few one PLD ive seen solo alky as PLD/WAR though so it all about skill.
the pull is easy and safe if you alert ( unklike pallas) and alky has no pet.
these gigas seem to be RMT territory on alot of servers even though it easy to tell when one is due. /sea all upper tower.
one more thing, i recomend a RDM or SNM as healer if gonna duu this, every time ive doen wiht w WHM they seemt oh ave MP issues. + a SMN could finish the kill as SMN/WHM if you wipe as a WHM/SMN or any SJ beside NIN will h ave a hard time. dont underestimate this guy he is a HNM but plz get the RMT OUT OF UPPER TOWER! lets stop just handing them these HNM. wanna kno why alky bracelest so pricey? cuz probably 95% of the drop RMT get so the can drive the prices however they choose ><
