nin or pld tank works for this. pld tanks just need good mage support
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 28 2006 at 7:34 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'm a level 70 WAR and I was wondering what a good setup for this NM is? I hear the fight is about 30 minutes long, so I want to be with a goos party that can do this with no deaths :)

For all those who commented about NIN's tanking this.

Get off the NIN bandwagon. Pld can tank this just fine with proper supporting staff. 3whm's, at least 3 stunners who have a good rotation, and good DD's 70+. Rdm to refresh also a plus.

Granted, if a stunner misses, chances are pld will die. But, if NIN gets interrupted on shadows, chances are he will be dead before whm cure spell is complete.

There are pro's and con's for each tanking class. PLD can hold hate more effiently and more time for mages to react to physical damage. NIN wont be as strong in the hate, but if he can keep his shadows up almost perfectly, than he is the dominant tank for this fight.

But please don't go saying NIN is god and hyping up that NIN is the only tank. Because the chances of getting a nin that is good enough to tank this is maybe 1 in 10.

This cluster is either very time consuming to collect each item for the synth, or very expensive. In order to synth it, you must have around84 Alchemy skill, the higher the better, or find someone with alchemy that high.
The ingredients are:
Burning Hakutaku Eye x1
Damp Hakutaku Eye x1
Earthen Hakutaku Eye x1
Golden Hakutaku Eye x1
Wooden Hakutaku Eye x1
Vial of Fiend Blood x1
Crystal: Light Crystal

The eyes are all found off of various Hakutaku type monsters. Burning eye drops off of Thousand Eyes in King Rampere's tomb. Damp Eye drops off of the Hakutakus in Ifrit's Cauldron (exact name eludes me), Earthen Eye drops off of Blubber Eyes in Sea Serpent's Grotto, Golden Eyes are from mindgazers in Sea Serpents Grotto, and finally Wooden Eyes, which drop off of Million Eyes in Den of Rancor.
After obtaining your cluster, head to Den of Rancor with your alliance, to the door with Lanterns in front of it (used in ZM4), and there should be a ??? which when examined says there are five eyes stuck to the rock.
Hakutaku, is one bad **** lol.
Good luck everyone, hope this clears up how to get your clusters.

It is synthed so you'll find it in bazaar's or Jeuno shouting.
Alchemy 92 or something.
Ingridients can be farmed, cannot be sold on AH

Go Item Lookup and search for the cluster if you wish to see what ingridients are.

RE: noob question
# Mar 28 2006 at 4:08 PM Rating: Decent
I had some alc friends saying they got a .1 skill at 84 so chances are the cap is 85.... but good luck finding any alc to synth it at that lv. All fails on this synth are crit meaning you lose every ingredent if it breaks. For that reason most alc won't even touch this before 90.

anyways can a 2 pt alliance of 70-75 take him down?

Nipper is (from what i can see) SAM75 subbing nin
Using 2 Different Sapara's of some kind, Ochiudo's Kote (hands), Sam AF (legs),
Haubergeon (body), and Wyvern Helm (head)

(EDIT: I may very well be wrong, aspecially
about the subbing nin-part, and 2 sapara's)

And a 2 pt alliance may defeat this if well
organized and nicely played

I've also seen 3 bst75's with a rdm killing this
over a very long period of time

Yea, we BST and SMN own Hakutaku. We're like 8/8 on him now. I was there when Stormie got his O-hat (i just got mine last night). Haku is fierce... i'm not sure how a normal party would bring him down.

Recieved my hat tonight from a kickass party of BSTs and SMNs. There were a few rough spots and deaths due to some hate issues, but that was overcome and the run was successful. I was expecting at least 14 people, but to my suprise it only took 3 SMN and 6 BST to take down Hakutaku. Took them just over half an hour to do it. The HP this mob has is rediculous, I mean its gotta have close to... well its a ******** of health is all.

Much respect and props to the BST and SMN out there. Amazing work!

O hat is rediculously pimp for a reason, and you find out when you see exactly how much it takes to drop Hakutaku ><
Strategy
# Nov 19 2005 at 7:00 PM Rating: Decent
We went for this last night, unaware of how strong it would actually be. This mob is not fun to fight unprepared, whole alliance was whiped on the first fight within 5 minutes. Didnt even bring it down 1/4 of its HP. However second fight we tried again after a long battle strategy and won the seconds time. Our alliance was somewhat low ranging from 64-75, I highly suggest you dont attempt this fight that low, we learnt our lesson.Just a tip for those who try this, you want your Melee and BLM's to be as close to 70+ as possible, healers and refreshers can be as low as 65.

If you have the resources, try for 4-5 Stunners (DRK or BLM's), if you setup an order in which to take turns stunning, you should be fine on cover for the AoE and Firaga III. Word to the wise, NIN tank this thing like gods, if you can get 2x 70+ NIN tanks, your party will have potential. We had a BRD in ours casting Mambo x2 on the NIN's which might I add made they're evasion insane, if you can get one, I suggest you try and fit him/her into your party. Anyways the rest of your party doesnt matter, I hear Spirits Within is a very effective WS on this mob, regardless its defence and magic defence is very high, and it has a substantial evasion rate. Fill the rest of your party with DD's if you can, SAM, DRG, DRK, etc.. all work nicely IF 70+.. any lower and they pretty much hit the mob for 0-10 damage everytime, which will make this fight drag out a long time.

On average if you camp to the north, put your mages along the ledge and your melee's in front of them. A clearing party isnt needed, the eyes wont aggro that far up, but if you can get one, take it. This fight should take 15-20 minutes with a good alliance setup, along with a 15 minute cool down after the fight to re-clear the area and prepare for the next spawn. Most important thing is to watch out for the AoE attacks, they will crush your alliance in single blows, so make sure your bring Stunners that know how to Stun lol.

On one of our LS O-hat runs, we only had 2 stunners and decided to try it anyway, when we could not recruit anyone. Not enough, resulted in full alliance wipe, plus outside add party, not to mention poor guy who lost his cluster. Get stunners!!!! And as 69 thf/nin, even with uber gear, I was consistently in the 0-10 hit range; was really too weak/low to make too much of a difference.

I've had, I think, four sucessful runs and we only had one stunner. Stun nothing but Firaga III and use a blink tank for Fire IV/Flare. I paralyze becomes a problem, tank it backwards with TA's.

I almost got my hat a couple days ago.. I'm a WHM, so obviously, I need it.. >.> Had a full alliance for Hakutaku of course, and another group to take care of adds. I trade my cluster, we start fighting Hakutaku, and we get an add while the add group was busy. Wasn't a big problem. A BLM from main alliance tries to sleep it, but BLM sleep doesn't work on them, of course.. So someone decides to call for help on the add.. So Hakutaku goes orange too. -.- It was a mistake, but just to let people know, if you call for help on one thing, EVERYTHING your alliance has claimed goes into CFH status. LS is paying for a new cluster, so I didn't just waste a mil, but it's still disappointing. Ah well. Next time. :p

i know i am just a lowly red mage (71...8k from 72) but i just got my hat, and i look sweet. This fight is tons of fun if you can do it safely (full alliance of 18, lvl 70-75). you may want to bring a few extra people to form a reserve/cleanup party (kill the million eyes that are sure to spawn during the 15+ minute fight). NINJAS RULE for this thing. If you have the means, bring a healthy supply of stunners. I'm goin to level my DRK to 37 so that when i hit 74 i can sub it for stun. I really like fighting this thing, i've fought it 10 times, and my LS needs about 7 more. NONPOLAR rules! Toke too. Good luck fighting this thing.

o that's why there's no tonberries now. I noticed that. I was very happy with this update as a BST. Made it a lot easier for me to do crowd control. I suggest anyone doing this to bring some BSTs and let them take care of the pops, links, adds whatever you want to call them. Bring 5 and you won't have to worry about Pops at all because there's 5 eyes that pop in the immediate area where most people fight it.

I wonder if bard could sleep the haku to stop spells as well. Someone said this mob was dark based and brd's sleep is light based i think. Maybe it'd stick w/ the right gear hmmm.

Just a little bit of numbers on the Peacock Charm drop. I have been doing this run with LS 3 sundays in a row. All runs were post update. We did 9, 6, then 13 runs. All runs we won and 0 peacock charms droped. If it does drop it is very very rare.

slasher behind the gate, easier to fight since update? i double it.

they basically replace tonb with more million eyes, so you gonna have 5 eyes there instead of 3. tonberry add is better off than FiragaSSSSSSSSSSSSs adds.

yet, the camp look much easier to farm, and for bst to due htkt.

for full alliance set up.... i doubt it will be much easier.

I can confirm that there are no tonberry spawns in the room with the ???, we just took a group to fight him today. The closest tonberries are down the hall on either the right or the left of the door, and there was one tonberry (stabber I think) behind the door.

Just a note, it seems as if the 7/19/05 patch changed the mob positions so that there are no more tonberries by the Hakutaku spawn. If fact there is a pretty big space where you can fight and only have the danger of 1 or 2 million eyes popping on you. I had not fought hktk before this, but others said it was easier like this.
