{too weak} of an NM solo.

Gear used: Hybrid haste/bootleg evasion build (W. Turban/Byakko's/Fuma & SH/Corse Cape/Evasion Earring/Scouter's Rope) only other gear of note was Hagun & Platinum Grip +1, starting off with 300 TP using a Coeurl Sub.

I was a little nervous about my chances but I didn't run into any problems whatsoever. The {Blind} effect from Tachi: Yukikaze and {Paralyze} from Tachi: Kasha were extremely noticeable, but I kept Seigan & Third Eye up full-time despite the mob's poor accuracy. I didn't bother two-houring since he didn't connect with a single swing of his Mighty Strikes and finished the fight at 73% health walking away with about 10k in gil, 2 iron ores, a pauldron and a shiny new Tungi (currently 1/3).

Anecdotal aside: Has anyone else noticed that this NM seems to Double Attack far more frequently at lower HP? From ~50% on it seemed that he was Double Attacking every other attack round.

K, well I got smoked by this guy as a 66 Drg, got him down to maybe 3/4 health before his Mighty Strikes beat me down. HB III triggers couldn't keep up. But oh how 4 levels help so much....

I beat this punk last night as a 70 Drg/Whm.......easily.

What I did was build up around 200% on TP from the hovering Ant and another one hanging around just outside the nook. I buffed with my usual for NM fights, Protect 2, Shell, Blink and Stoneskin. I also cast Regen on myself before popping as a safegaurd do to previous loss. Oh and I was using Meat Cheifkabobs.

I opened up with a Penta Thrust, which laughably barely even took a dent out of his HP, even though it hit for around 1000. But the fight after that was pretty straight forward, he was hitting me for upwards of 150 with a base of 97 and crits of up to 250 a shot. But it still took him a good 2 minutes to break through my buffs.

As soon as he 2 houred I Super Jumped out of it, and with Wyvern having hate I recasted Blink and Stoneskin. And when he had my Wyvern down to about 10% HP I 2 houred to get something out of my Wyvern besides his death^^. I quickly Penta'd for 1200, Jumped, High Jumped and took 2 hour effect off and recalled my Wyvern.

As soon as I had 2 houred though he quickly blew through my buffs, since his 2 hour was doing pretty close to 75% more per hit.

But after each of our 2 hours it was pretty straight forward with the fight, when I got 100+ Tp I'd Penta, when I'd dip below 50% health I'd trigger HB III.

Soon enough I had the punk laying on the ground, and me with a Tungi in hand.^^ 2/2 on the thing^^(I had my friend help me before, but he got the Tungi instead of me) with no TH I, II, III, IV, V, L, MM, MML in sight, lol.

Like I keep saying TH (Treasure Hunter), is completely pointless on most(if not all) NM's. I (by myself, and anyone I've helped not having TH either) am 2/2 on Tungi, 8/11 on Shaman's Cloak, and 1/5 on the damned Bow just from the NM's in Quicksands. Not to mention many more NM's I've popped outside of Quicksands and still managed to get the drop without TH, in timely fashions.

But all in all this NM is a {Decent Challenge} at best to a 70 Drg/Whm. And I am now the proud owner of a Tungi, I will happily use on my War.^^

I soloed him as 75 black mage/ 37 red mage. It was a pretty simple fight; I didn't have any close calls at all. Bind works insanely well on him. I fought him twice, both times I popped him, then bound him. He would stay bound for about 3-4 nukes, then I'd stun, bind, then start again. He has a huge amount of HP, so Manafont is essentially a must. After Manafont, let loose with Thundaga/Blizzaga III, and/or Burst/Freeze II; that will knock down his HP in no time.

I went 1/2 on Tungi.

1/2 on him. He definatly does hit hard, so /nin or nin main is really the way to go. First fight his acc blew. Got hit maybe 4x the whole fight. Second fight he might have been a lvl or two higher, cuz he cut shadows down much faster and hit for 50-100 even with def food on. Parsed it and he had a little over 10,000 hp. A high-evasion person with /nin would be ideal on him. War/nin might have it rough w. low evasion and no reliable self-healing method. Not terribly hard either time, however.

soloed it last night as BST/RDM 68. Here is how i did it. kill the antican that hold the place, and call anoth CC. Rest up, and then sneak pop Tribunus. Had CC fight him till CC dropped to 1/3. Ran to entrance where 3 beetles are around (sneak still on). Heel CC back, and release to de-link any hate/link he got on the way. Grab an beetle to fight and rest a little bit for mp and some hp. Keep Blink and Stoneskin up, also regen cause Tribunus hit hard. Call another CC while beetle dies, and repeat. Engage only when it seems no more pet swip is necessary. It was not hard at all, used total 3 beetles and 3 CCs, and got Tungi.

Found Antican Tag in 1st room I checked, went to other map, built up TP on a few anticans, rested, used squid sushi, utsusemi-ni and popped it.
Barely took 5-6 hits all fight (capped accuracy on my Thf75/nin), was down only 300 dmg at any time (using venom, acid and bloody bolts).
Drops (with TH3 and 3 lucky items): antican pauldron, iron ore, mythril ore, darksteel ore, dark crystal and.. the Tungi.

Good luck to all others going for this.

Solo'd this guy as 75PLD/NIN after a first attempt to fight him as PLD/WAR that didn't go so well. This guy hits hard and I made the mistake of underestimating him. He killed me with about 10% of his life remaining when he somehow hit me with a magnetite cloud for 504 O.o
So I went back /nin which I only have :ichi so I was a little gimp, I kept my shield on for blocks to prevent spell interruption and brought 2 yag drinks to make sure I wouldn't run out of mp. Well, it turns out this guy is a joke with shadows, he never got me below 1000 hp and I finished the fight with 140/311 mp. I got the Tungi on my first time actually killing him, so I am 1/2 on it!

My War is at 55 now, so I can't wait to use this axe :)

Finally, the Brock has come back to Quicksand Caves!

For those attempting this you will need some things before you start...

Patience, silent oils, and a THF with TH2...

I started out searching for this last Thursday. I'm level 60WAR/30NIN so everything pretty much aggros still at this level. I did the research on the locations for the spwn points of the "???". I started out on my own searching for this "???" You can pretty much do this on your own without the help of other players. I would suggest zoning into Quicksand Caves from the South entrance in East Altepa Desert. You can actually loop around the area to check the four spawn points. I would zone into the area and head south and then east. there is a "???" spawn point in the room where you can drop through the sand ****** hole. Check the spot and then drop down the hole if there is no "???". Head north and take the tunnel to where NM Centuro spawns. In this room, there is a "???" in the southwest corner of the room. This is perhaps the best locaction for lower level melee searching for this "???" cause often times, people camping NM Centurio will be killing the placeholders so you wont have as many problems waiting ther efor it to pop. If it is not there, head west and then drop down the ledge and continue heading south through the tunnel. Half way through the tunnel is a room with many mobs. Just spam {Tab Key} and see if is there. If no, continue heading southwest and then head over to the room where you drop down to the Fountain of Kings. There is a "???" spawn here too. What I suggest when I did my run is do the loop twice and then camp the NM Centurio room for the "???". If your high enough, you can actually somewhat camp NM Centurio and the "???". The spawn points are elusive and will dissappear on a moments notice. When I did my run the first time, I clicked on the "???" when I accidentally had Invisible on and when I cancelled Invisible, the "???" depopped. You dont need invisible on anyways so just dont use it. I got my first antican tag in the Centurio room after two days of searching. I made my attempt on NM Tribunus VIII-I and got a whole lot of drops but no Tungi. Thanks Jadoogar for the help though. Right after the fight, I headed back to the "???" spawn points and the first one I checked had the "???". My sneak was wearing though so I made a split decision and said ***** putting up Sneak. I grabbed my second Antican Tag and about 4 angry Anticans along with it. I was in the room that linked to the zone of the Fountain of Kings. Zone was about a 3 minute run from where I was so I spammed Defender, Utsusemi, and hauled *** to zone. Unfortunately, an Antican Signifer cast Stonega II on me and hit me for 400 damage. I got the tag, but I pulled every Antican in that hallway and died. Thank God for great linkshell friends. Bliran came and R3'd me and they decided to help me with the NM Tribunus. I got an invite from party. Checked party makeup and found that I had a fellow linkshell party member who was a 75THF (Satii). Great news for me. We head to (J-9) West Altepa Desert and enter (For a second time) to go knuckle to knuckle with our friend Tribunus. Went in, killed the creep at the end of the hallway to build TP. Went in as 75THF/NIN (Satii), 75WHM/BLM (Bliran), 63something? (Canormille (SP?)), and 60WAR/NIN (me). We all had probably over 200%TP. I had 285%TP after we faught those two Antican in the hallway. Hit Utsusemi and got my buffs. I traded the Antcian Tag to the "???" and the there he was in all his uglyness. I hit WarCry, Aggressor, Beserk, and tried Kurayami: Ichi. The NIN blind spell didn't work though. The other three party members started a skillchain and just told me to solo WS after they were done. All's I know is I saw a crap load of hit points come off of Tribunus. I hit Rampage and did my own damage. I actually received enough TP to finish him off with a second round of rampage. We kicked his lily *** without any trouble, and the Tungi dropped! YAY!?! I lotted for my Tungi and passed on the rest of the loot; a prize for the rest of the party for helping me.

So, i'm now 1/2 on the Tungi. I wish I could dual wield this but I'll settle for a Fancisca from NM Aquarius in The Boyadha Tree. That fool is next on my ********* :) Goodluck to all. It's not entirely hard, just gotta find some friendly THF's to help you out.
Not too bad
# Dec 18 2006 at 1:57 AM Rating: Decent
This NM wasn't too bad. I went in 75RDM/NIN with a 70WHM/THF. I was going to go /WAR but I didn't want to underestimate his attack power. Just Make sure you kill the other Ant thats in that area before anything. It's a REALLY good idea to debuff asap, make sure you have at least 5 Echo Drops. He spawned behind us, about halfway through that little nook his ??? is, and it king of caught us off-guard. He did Might Strikes with about 40% on him. The most you have to worry about is that Sandstorm attack, and his Jamming Wave. The WHM i went with didn't do too much damage, but he put on any debuffs that wore off on the NM. I am 1/1 on the Tungi, and i think that the WHM/THF really helped that a lot. It was also funny to see a WHM SA and TA Earth Crusher. Try it out :-D

Just wanted to say WHM/NIN can solo this guy easy. Cleared out the Princeps, buffed up, popped, and killed before Princeps respawn. I took a grand total of 8 damage through the whole fight.

Went 1/3 on Tungi, no TH around.

I also just solod this guy as whm/rdm. . . i took a lot more damage than 8 though.

i cleared princeps, buffed, spawned and went crazy. This guy hits hard and often. if i didn't have primate staff and spirit taker, i don't think i would have been able to beat him.

when he used his 2 hour i bound him and stood off until it wore out lol.

i didn't get the axe, which i wanted for my bst which it 56 atm. . . i did get a darksteel ore, which is almost as good. . . :p

anyways, i'd say /nin is definitely the way to go.

2/2 on axe. One for my friend andone for me. The first one we did as RDM75 and BRD75, the second I solo'd as BRD75/NIN37 with mainhand dagger and Joyeuse offhand spamming Evisceration. Very easy fight, I barely even took any hits.

Ok, so me and my wife just took this 2 times. 0/2

First time:
<me> 59 WAR/NIN, <wife> 74 WHM/BLM
Took it down pretty easy. No really big hassles involved. I used my 2 hr for fun, and not becuase we needed it.

Second time:
<me> 59 WAR/NIN, <wife> 74 WHM/SMN
She subbed SMN cause it was easy the first time, and with SMN sub she has more MP. This fight didn't go to well... Started off fine, but about 1 minute into the battle he started to take control. We both came really close to dieing. Still beat it after pulling some tricky stuff though.

Going to go to sleep now, but I think when I try it tomorrow I'm going to bring a THF along with me ^^.

BST Duo
# Jun 09 2006 at 12:34 AM Rating: Decent
This is easily duoed with 2x 63BST/WHM and it definitely seems like we could have done it sooner.

We each charmed a beetle or lizard near the spawn point to take out the paladin ant camping the ???. After it was dead, we got new pets and the one without the tag took up position at the zone. The other put sneak up and popped the NM.

The NM gets pulled with a pet and pulled towards zone. All the ants in the room will link on the pet and if done properly, (Leave) ditches hate and all the others despawn. If not, zoning is fine since the NM won't despawn with the others.

Once the NM was all alone at the zone we stood back out of AoE range and let our beetles beat on it. I kept Dia on the NM at all times since it's the only enfeeble that I could stick.

Pets repop faster if they despawn rather than if they are killed so right before a beetle died, we used Leave and charmed a new one. There aren't enough beetles near the zone to take out the NM even though our first two came from the middle of the room so we both used a couple Carries in between. Right before it died, we both engaged just for luck. ;)

It was a very easy fight both times even though I disconnected in the middle of the second fight. We were lucky and had the Tungi drop both times. The hardest part of this was finding a time to fight the NM when there wasn't a PT there fighting the beetles.

I killed this today as THF75/NIN37 with my friend SAM70/THF35. He presented no real challenge to us. I had no trouble keeping shadows up. We got the Tungi, but neither of us really wanted it. We only spawned him because we got the tag while camping Shaman's Cloak. So we let it auto-drop and I think he tossed it.
Duod with BLM75 and support mage
# May 26 2006 at 10:11 PM Rating: Decent
I got my Tungi today... Duod with BLM75 WHM75. I am 1/4 on the drop, and I easily defeated the mob with a BLM75 WHM50 as well. Strategy is as follows:

Pop the mob, bind it, nuke it. The end. :p

I cut it really close (mp-wise) with BLM75, so I don't suggest trying it much lower than 75. But when I popped it, I immediately bound it, and started spamming thunder 4 blizzard 4 and fire 4. I suggest using an mp drink, and some food... just in case. Once out of magic, commence with the manafont, and destroy it with your tier 3 -ga. Thundaga 3, blizzaga 3, and a thunder 4 polished it off. During manafont, don't move. If he loses bind, have your support mage spam cures on you. Every ounce of mp is necessary in this fight. If done right, you can kill it in less than a minute.

This mob has 10,000 hp, based on multiple parses.... here's one parse with me and the WHM50:

Radian - The Tribunus VII-I(4)
Spells: 1124 (Thunder IV), 1067 (Blizzard IV), 980 (Fire IV), 1124 (Thunder IV), 1067 (Blizzard IV), 1342 (Thundaga III), 1243 (Blizzaga III), 1126 (Firaga III), 1124 (Thunder IV),
Recovered: 206,206,297,
Total Damage: 10197

And here's another parse with me and a WHM75:

Radian - The Tribunus VII-I(2)
Spells: 1124 (Thunder IV), 1067 (Blizzard IV), 980 (Fire IV), 1124 (Thunder IV), 1067 (Blizzard IV), 1342 (Thundaga III), 1243 (Blizzaga III), 1126 (Firaga III), 201 (Thunder),
Recovered: 394,669,394,
Total Damage: 9274

Upitupi - The Tribunus VII-I(2)
Critical Damage: 113,
WeaponSkills: 635 (Hexa Strike),
Spells: 7 (Dia II),
Heals: 394,669,394,
Total Damage: 755

As you can see, I finished it with a 201 thunder, bringing the damage total to 10,029. I would say this mob probably has EXACTLY 10k hp.

Popped him last night after gettin an Antican Tag from one of the 4 ??? soawn points. Got my NPC out as 75 pld/war and was killing him pretty good, though he has high HP. A Thf then ran by and wanted to join in, so we kicked his *** together. Only concern was when he did the AOE silence move, but my NPC kept lost silence quickly and cured me. Drops were >
Tungi
Adaman Ore
Darksteel Ore
Mythril Ore
Iron Ore
Iron Ore
Antican Pauldron

So all in all, a great NM to kill, a cool Axe and over 100k in drops. XD

Knocked this out tonight as 75MNK/NIN. I brought my NPC along (Radille, L65 soothing healer) but I don't think I needed her. I wrecked this guy bad, I think he hit me all of 3 times. Got the Tungi, 2 iron ores, and a pauldron. My WAR is 900 from L60 so this will be very handy.

With the new expansion out alot of people who could be camping this aren't. Take this opportunity to make a run. Right now Radille and I are the only two non-monsters in Quicksand Caves.

Just duo'd with a RNG friend. Not hard at all. We got TP before pop'ing on a few mobs around, and did:

Savage Blade > Arching Arrow = Light

Which did some nice damage and just kept at it during the fight. Jammer wave went off twice but no problems till the end when he critical'd my RNG friend for like 500 damage and almost dropped him lol.

Anyway, made out nice with drops:
- Antican Pauldron
- Iron Ore x2
- Mythril Ore
- Adaman Ore
- Tungi
- Dark Crystal

1/1

Got 1 more pop to do as well :D

I trioed him with DRG/WHM72(me), WHM/SMN70, and THF/NIN 60. Basically I tanked, healed and dd'ed the fight. WHM did decent damage with Hexa Strike. The THF was just there for TH basically.

1/1 on the Tungi. Very nice for me.

Ran around and got my tag withing 10 minutes. Went ahead and popped the ******* as a 73 Nin/Whm. Brought only 2 echo drops and Kurayami, was planning on waiting till nightime, but it passed soon after spawning him so I said crew it.

He has a lot of hp, opened the fight with a 700 Jin and it barely dented it. I only used Kurayami once, and it was pretty much over from there. He had a streak where he missed 23 straight times, yes I counted, mobs in the Dunes barely struggle as much as he did D;

In the end he didn't drop anything, but I'll head back some other time >_>

/sigh....

I'm now 0/4 on the tungi, the best drops i've got was 3!!!! iron ores and an antican pauldron, normally i get 2 iron ores. Killed him twice tonight with 2!!! 50+ thfs tagging along and still crap drops......

Does any1 know if moon phase could effect drop rate as it's about 25% atm, maybe wait til it's nearer 100?

sadly whm died on final run, tp building and shadows is a must for any sub 70 fighters
