Anyone have any idea how long it takes for the ??? to respawn in a location once you pop and kill the gob?

I soloed when i was lvl 46RDM/23WHM, he droppped 7,000gils, gold beastcoin and a case of rusty bolt. he wasnt worthing the trouble.

I was in the highlands as a 51 RNG wearing nothing but wool slops and my bow killing T-rams and hunting Mary when all of a sudden i got an invite and i was like wtf hmm so i accepted the invite to find out it was an alliance trying to kill this Goblin Alchemist so i was like ok i'll help so i travel to the crag just as they get this thing to spawn needless to say everyone died but me and the BLM so i shadowbinded it and stepped back and started to fire while he nuked after about 1min and 30 sec later he was dead we both had about 122 life left but we killed it i lotted on a gold beastcoin got it and disbanded i think the BLM got the rest lol cause everyone else was dead.

My boyfriend and I were farming in the Highlands when I noticed a little ???. Having done extensive research on NM's, I wasn't surprised to click on it and see that he was VERY CLOSE TO THE SURFACE! I traded him a Ram Skin, he liked that and wanted more! So...after hearing the rumors that he is quite powerful to the last person who trades to him, I decide to sacrifice my boyfriend to the little beast!

I tell him to trade something to the ???, he does, and then runs like a little girl as a mean old gobbie hits his low level butt for 60+ damage! Luckily I was there to save him! We ended up with some silly stuff along with a Gold Beastcoin:D All in all a fun fight, and not without its benefits, a highly recommended NM.

Does this gobbie really have that wide of a level range? If it does, when is it ever safe to hunt him down? Unless he drops something valuable that is not listed here, this gob is a big waste of time

Myself and a few others took him out today...blah blah blah got the gold beastcoins and something that isnt on that list but not worth much...he managed to drop a Broken Willow wand

We killed this yesterday with 8 people we took it down in about 20 seconds lvl 40-60

I would bet that some of the randomness of the drops results from him dropping whatever was traded to the spot to spawn him.
A broken willow fishing rod, I mean, come on ^^

This is an old story, but I thought I'd share:

I was in Jeuno and my DRG friend was at Dem and said that the ??? was extremely close to the surface. He asked me to come and I did. Reading all the stuff on here I was worried we were going to get our asses handed to us. If it was bad, I would just Chainspell >> Warp out.

I got the idea that maybe he was the level of the person who popped him. So, to be safe, we found a random newb passerby and asked him to trade something to the ???. He asked what he should trade, and we said anything. The newb was like "But I don't want to trade everything in my bag." Omfg, no joke, it took us 15 minutes and 4 ??? spot changes to convince him to trade him it SOMETHING. We invited the guy to our pt, and sure enough, he traded a Bird Feather we got from an Akbaba right beside us.

Up the NM popped, and my DRG friend voked it. He used Jump and it took 3/4 of the Gob NM's life. I couldn't even finish enfeebing it (I thought we were in for a tough fight) before it was dead. DRG Jumped, and swung once and the Gob was dead. The only time the Gob attacked the DRG, he missed.

Which makes my theory as such: The NM's level is the same as the person who feeds it the last item before it spawns. The random newb passerby was a Lv14 MNK, if I recall.

If anyone wants to verify or test it out, go ahead. Some hard proof would be good.

***EDIT: Doh, forgot to give our levels. I was a RDM52/BLM26 and my friend was a DRG55/WAR27.

Fought him tonight with 60 BLM, 61 THF, 61 WHM... it was an easy fight, i started to over nuke when his first hit landed on me and it was only for 7 damage, but that's because he took my stoneskin off in one hit >< got cocky and overnuked. So I took about 800 damage total, had to spam cure to keep my tarutaru butt alive, lol. In the end, we all walked away with 502 gil, Thief mugged 760 gil, we got 1 beastcoin, a ton of other junk listed on this page, and 56 XP each. It was fun.

fighting this guy makes very little sense. in my experience, his level directly corresponds to the amount of gil that the items you trade then ??? are worth. either way, unless you're level 75, and have another level 75 with you as backup, don't bother. the items it drops are certainly not worth a 10% exp loss.

A week ago i was at the Crag of Dem,i was about to hop off the side of the crag then i saw a monster named "goblin archaeologist" so i takea closer look, he comes towards me and hits me 3 times, boom! im dead

There were some high levels standing not far from it, they were probably the ones that popped it out, so im sure that level of the ppl who are doing it has sumthing to do with it

just to be safe, dont do it before lv 35 hehe...

was passing by with a 51 drk and me(41 drk)

tried to spawn him. came out on the 2nd item. i do it damage to it...we r like oh ****. i had told the other guy to flee if its too strong i didnt mind dieing. soo i died he fleed to jugner.

i feel sorry for anything that ran across that thing after we died. had to be 60 atleast XD

Okay, so I went as a 45 BLM - something around there and I wanted to try it out solo but got there and there was a 75 WHM waiting. We traded both our stacks (Oh, trade a full stack of ANY crystal to the ??? once a day [not 24 hours] to get it to pop depending how far under the surface it is). So the gobby popped and literally it was dead in like 3 nukes from me and the WHM casting junk on it. It tossed a bomb and did nothing to either of us. It dropped a gold beast coin and some other junk. It must be random if people are getting their asses kicked when it did nothing to us.
