Vana'diel Bestiary: Bisque-heeled Sunberry  

I'm 68 RDM, with so many jobs levelled to full sub level it isn't funny. I'm also 60 thf, been playing since Oct. 2003, and both rdm and thf would be 75 by now if i didn't level too many damn jobs. (I have 4 jobs left that are under 20 >.>)
Anyways, getting back to the point, my LS was doing ZM-4, so I decided to sub drk for a little extra dmg and still have drain and aspir (and because i'm too low on funds to afford decent arrows for rng sub). I OP warp to yhoat and head to the entrance to wait for LS, decide to look up my old friend Bisque (I tried to solo him before as 58rdm/nin, got him to half hp, then couldn't get utsusemi timed right and kept getting interrupted, I died ;.;).
So Bisque is there, but since i didn't have nin sub i knew it would be risky to tackle him head-on, so I went with the old grav+bind kiting routine, and bind worked beautifully. However, as most rdm's should know if they're halfway decent solo'ers and don't have blm sub, i saved most of my mp for buffing myself with stoneskin, haste, phalanx, etc., as well as for drain, refresh, and the infrequent cure needed when I didn't notice stoneskin wear around the same time bind did. For attacks, I mainly used bio (for the initial damage), dia, for def down, and bow + bodkin arrows. My archery is 196, caps at 195 at lvl 67, so it's not capped for 68 yet (all levels obtained in rdm, i had Sidewinder when rng was 15 XD), so i was hitting fairly decently, about 60-75% accuracy, and each arrow doing 68, crits for 85. the only time I ever got close to him was when grav and bind wore, or when i closed in for a quick vorpal blade.
Fighting this way can take a long time, but I find it extremely satisfying to solo a long fight and win when someone tells me i don't stand a chance solo. (I solo'd the thf AF gob NM in Sauromugue as 62rdm/nin, and that shut a few people up, let me tell you XD) I did have to convert twice, because, let's face it, keeping buffs like stoneskin and blink up, as well as haste (to cut down on bind recast) eats more mp than refresh can account for, and this thing is not aspir-able. But on the bright side, i never went into yellow hp, apart from converting, and the only ws Bisque seemed able to use was "Sigh" (evasion up) since i was never in range for anything else.
Overall, fight took about 14 minutes, but I was immensely satisfied with myself, and I got the Rancor Handle and a light crystal. If this NM was 72-74, the fight would have been much harder with drk sub. I only got 2 xp though, since LS invited me to the ZM pt halfway through the fight and were waiting for me to finish.

Anyways, sorry if I rambled or patted myself on the back too much ^^;; I'm just stoked at soloing yet another NM that people said I couldn't.

I have such a great story for this NM. We were headed to the Temple for Wespes to get larvae for Hornetneedle. (Two THF and myself, blm playing healer) We padded up to the temple and highest level thf says Hold on. (On choco) we walk up the stairs right in front of the entrance to the temple and there, sitting a platform, is Bisque. I got some awesome screen shots of him and then suddenly the thf gets off his chocobo. I am just staring as he walks up behind the Tonberry and happily mugs it for 450+ gil! It agros him (duh) and he just beats feet with Flee, this tonberry running (slowly) after him. Me and other thf are laughing as we chase the pair on chocobo to the entrance of the place. No kill there and some awesome SS of him mugging the Sunberry! (Also, great side story - someone linked almost 10 tonberries to the zone. That mugging-higher thf was afk and they still agro'd him. We had to run like hell but I managed to invis him before I zoned (almost died doing it) and luckily, the invis held long enough for the tonberries to leave! - worst part is he came back and just went 'huh?' - I smacked him -.-)

More confirmation on what's been said since mid-June of last year that this NM is nowhere near the level Allakhazam.com states him to be. I got 14 exp with a pet at Lv70. That would 18exp at Lv70 if I didn't have a pet. Has all the tricks any other Tonberry has, but nothing else that I noted.

We were doing ZM 4 and our Thief wasn't there yet so we were wondering around that entrance to the Temple for ZM4 and there he was right above us

We started attacking him and he was God Awfully easy

party was 68blm 66blm[me] 70 pld 70drg and 63 whm

my spells were doing Full damage on him. and not getting Resisted at all.

we even got the rancor handle

this NM is a joke.

me and 2 buddies owned him about a month ago for fun, me a 56 mnk/whm, a 56 whm/smn and a 55 rng/nin, we ended up using everything we had but we still beat him. I got the handle ^^

I'm level 25THF/MNK. I thought it would be fun to fight this guy, to see how much damage I could do, and how much it would do. I sneak attacked it for 0. it critical'ed me for 500+. got some nice screenshots.

I messed around with him earlier today while out in the jungle to get the teleport crystal.
I wasn't able to kill him but being a 60thf/nin, and solo - I think I did fairly well on my own.

I Sneak Attacked him from the beginning, but didn't realize I had 100% TP - but prompty used that. I was able to recast my shadows fairly well.
But he still got some crazy *** hits for 100+ in on me. And him being a Thief as well, weilding a dagger, you can imagine how long my shadows last x.X
I shoulda cast Hide and ran, but instead I stacked SA to it >.>

Anyways, I got him down to 75% HP before I had to turn tail and 2hr+instant warp outta there with about 13hp left.

If he's really that high of a level, I'm surprised he wasn't harder.

I had my first experience with this NM and the temple of uggaleph today. I just hit lvl 59rdm last night so im feeling pretty cocky and buff up with protect, stoneskin, phalanx, blink, haste, enblizzard, regain MP, bind him, give him some elemental debuffs, enfeeble, bioII, then started to whack at him. Stoneskin lasted about 3 hits before he hit me for around 70. His dagger is fast too so i knew this wouldnt work out too well. So, using my rdm tactics knowing I cant sleep him with debuffs on i throw him a gravity and kite him around this circle near he spawned. Very convenient I thought, so I proceeded to rebuff with stoneskin and phalanx, turn around, give him a few swings, drain, and run around again. recast gravity, reland some elemental debuffs and so on.

At this point i see ive been fighting him for roughly 5 minutes already and his HP was at about 7/8th full. So I figure i probably could have kept up my routine but who knows if i would last so I sent a message to a lvl 75brd/nin who was killing some tonberry near there and he agreed to help. After the bard arrived he was pretty much dead within another 5 minutes. I recall getting a little bit of exp and he passed on the item since he said he had it.

Yesterday, a friend (60rdm) and I (62mnk)were out exploring the jungles, it was both of our's first time to the temple. So we climbed the stairs and I spent a minute looking at the view. When I turned around Artemls(rdm) had already run ahead, and this NM was where I was hoping to see Art.

Of course it checked as Impossible to Guage so I tried to regroup when he agrroed me, which at level 62 is a bad sign when things start gunning for you.

He hit me for about 100 a swing, making me a little nervous. When I engaged though I hit for roughly 80-110 a punch, so we decided to stay. He had a move called "vorpal slice" or something to that effect, it wouls stuck out but it missed me so Im not exactly sure the damage on it. Later he did the standard "throat stab" for 1000+ damage but it wasnt enough to kill me and soon after he was done for.

We got 25 experience each for a total of 50, which seems kinda low if he is level 72-74. Plus his overall stats didnt seem all that much for an NM of that apparent level range.

So out of that trip we got an NM drop and three pretty pictures. In my opinion that equals a good trip ^^

I'd really have to disagree with the lvl 72-74 given to this guy! Yesterday me and some other 5 LS members came to fool around in yhoator jungle, and kill some stuff!! Well when we got to the temple we came upon this little guy! Nobody could chk the net for its lvl, so we decided to rest and give it a try! (The whm had tele-yhoat rdy just in case) We saw some ppl coming so we decided to get it before they came. We started fight and saw it did to me (lvl 52 pld with earth staff) dmg around the 70-90's normally, and 120 critical attacks! It didnt look good! We kept fighting anyways, i had hate controlled, until the guy does some technique (cant remember the name) which resets hate! WHM casts cure III or IV or me, since that same attack leaves me in 268 HP out of 1013, WHM dies, followed by the BLM! I re-gained its attention using invincible, and told the rdm to raise the whm! WHM raised, used bene, i still had agro, but just in case the whm got behind me, used cover! We were able to kill the guy after 20 mins, having 2 members die, but one was raised, so its really one dead at the end! The thing dropped the handle, and we r now figuring out whats it for! Me, being 52, got 128 xp, which would b something VT or maybe low IT, dunno! The pt we had was:

Lvl 72-74 NM would've raped us, dont u think?

i've soloed him in 5 min...the time to cast three eclipse bite with fenrir, it's more easy then a tonberry dismaier, maybe 72-74 is just a BS?

I saw him the other day and he was standing there. My brother was about to attack him when he asked a friend for a check on him. He said that it was a level 72-74. So my brother did not attack him like planned well good luck bye!
