Historical Information

In Mesopotamian mythology, the Girtablulu were creatures with the upper body of a human and the lower body of a scorpion that guarded the gates of the mountains (which they opened and closed to allow the sun god Shamash ascend and descend from the sky), as well as the gates to Irkalla (the underworld). They were capable warriors, being able to not only fight with weapons and their stingers, they were able to induce death with their gaze and terror with their presence. They were originally constructs of the goddess Tiamat (see Tiamat) but some survived the war they were created for and began working elsewhere.

we beat this mob in about 10 minutes with not much DD
Key is keep tank alive
We had 75 cor 71 rdm 75 whm 70 blu 72 PLD (me) and someone else? thinking it was rng? we built tp on the mobs around to 300 and took a big chunk out of his health then the rest was pretty slow.
was pretty easy though ..

Unicorn Server Setup: (8 people)

We just did this with 8 people...

TsukiakariUsagi RNG72/NIN
Xobuwai NIN69/WAR
Laike WAR75/NIN
Kaylani PLD75/WAR
Kyen RDM75/NIN
Shinjikoto WHM75/BLM
Kyn 60-something RDM (he's picky about his level lol)
Numare RDM75/???

I barraged right at the beginning of the fight after using sidewinder and it had 3:11 to go on recast, so it took us approximately 2 minutes to kill.

We did with just 4 people:

75 MNK/WAR - Crosius
75 WAR/NIN - Molokai
75 WHM/BLM - Barthelmy
75 RDM/BLM - Borfax

Clean room (save TP), rest MP, pop, Asuran Fists, Rampage, gain TP, Hundred Fists, Asuran Fists, Mighty Strikes, Rampage, dead mob. RDM did his thing and WHM kept MNK alive with cure bombs. Easy enough.

this thing hits just like any of the other WSNMs... hard but innaccurate. we took 7 ppl on this one. PLD (me), THF, RDM, BLM, SMN, WHM x 2. the blm made quick work of it off of a frag SC. A good group of SMART (not noobs) ppl is what you need. We could have done it with 6 but we wanted to be sure. Quite abit of fun and some very pretty colors :D. Getting there wasnt a hastle at all, aggro was a concern in 2 parts of QSC. other than that very straight-forward. toook maybe an hour to get to.

Thanks to Chichi, Luckygoddess, Garytwo, Metticus, Boodles, Shalamar & a whm that was too quiet to find in my log <.<

You need 7 good ppl ? <.< Actually on many not too strong mobs, having more ppl makes it harder since the mob gains TP alot faster.

This was my 3rd WSNM, long time ago.
I ended up going as mithra rdm75/whm, bringing a mostly naked elv THF75/nin (af and some random junk, he gave up on thf months ago) and a taru BRD75/whm.
For reasons i cant understand my para devastated him, paralyzing like 4/5 attacks (para1, not iceday, rather low mnd . THF had little prob and it was over quite fast, tho the brd died taking the AOE twice. . . an unnecessary victim tho.

Again, easily duoable by the usual combos (support + blinker) or soloable by the usual classes (rdm, nin, thf. . .). Be prepared, know ur job and know ur enemy (esp his TP moves) and the WSNM are no problem at all.
This NM was suprisingly easy...

Just killed this NM tonight with a 75DRK/NIN(me), a 75PLD/NIN, a 75WAR/NIN, and a 75BLM/WHM. The fight went suprisingly well. We were worried due to a number of ppl not showing up. The WAR went into the red once dure to an unblinked Death Scissors but everything else went very smoothly. The only hard thing was dealing with the amount of time just to get to the area.

Edit: fixed spelling

Did this today with PLD 74, WHM 74, MNK 75, WAR/NIN 75 x2

Hardest part was to get to the actual fight location but when we got there and cleared out antica we killed him in no time.

He use high damage AoE and hits a Taru WHM hard if he is near so take distance if you are mage.

Soloable by RDM/NIN. Did so tonight.

He's immune or highly resistant to Poison II and Nukes will range from 200-320 for a nonmeritted Hume.

Good Luck.

Soloable in a straight up fight? I'm confused as to how you fought him. DoT? Just curious because as I understand it, a rdm/nin wouldn't typically be nuking at all.

So a few of my LS mates and I have been on a WSNM spree lately. Most of my LS just recently obtained 70+ levels and have obviously been enjoying themselves. Now my LS is quite small. The usual set up is 3-4 people between 73-75. We've done this on Decimation, Retribution, Ground Strike, Tachi Kasha, Asuran Fists, and Savage Blade. The set up is usually 75 whm/blm, 75 drk/nin, 74 nin or 75 pld/nin depending on the fight. We don't usually lose. As a matter of fact I can't think of us ever losing. No u don't need an entire PT, or an Alliance of 18 75 players to kill this. A few good players and a bad attitude work just fine.

Tanked this as a 73 NIN for a friend tonight. Had him down to 5% and he used his AOE stomp twice in a row killing my Ni and my Ichi shadows. RDM cures me to full HP I hit my Ni macro and see "[utsusemi: Ni] 0:01". Before I could hit the macro again I got hit with a TP move for 1,392 damage and he dies on the next hit after I drop -_- Kinda pissed me off but I know it's something I'll look back on and laugh about later =D

This NM is easy we took him down as NIN75, RDM75 and me (BLM71), first attempt we all died because the NIN get caught with his shadows down and got death scissored for 1.6k. On the second attempt the NIN virtually soloed it i left with 400mp and the RDM had 3/4 mp left as well. Dissapointed as i was hoping for a harder challenge, well hope this helps and good luck with him!

Woot! Savage Blade is mine now!

Huge thanks to friends for all their help....

Gates(75mnk), Sparky(74blm), Bubbz(60whm), and Souleman(54rdm)

I was planning a my usual day. Head up to Lower Jeuno and begin shouting for a few hours, but, the other day, I partied with a long time friend of mine, Jerivalu. He told me about how he (75mnk), and a rdm had duoed that scorpion, o.0. So, I was hmmm, Gates is a good friend of mine that's a 75mnk, I'll give that a shot as well.

Lol, to no surprise, Gates is up for the task. Any chance he gets to show off the power of mnk, and display it's one of (if not) the best job in the game, he does it. Also though, I figured, we don't "have" to duo it. I could bring along some others if I wanted. I was looking at it in a whole new light, because I've always tried to put a whole alliance together. So, I ask more friends in my LS if they weren't busy, and had about an hour or so to kill. I needed my friend Sparky for More DD, Bubbz and Souleman to help me keep Gates alive at any cost.

Well, after we open all the gates and everything, we zone in. Ran into a few snags here in there with aggro and things, but, nothing too serious. Once the WSNM was up, we went to work. Gates opened up with Hundred Fists to gain instant hate. Everything went just fine. Had one MAJOR issue when Gates went from near full life (as a monk mind you) to 75hp, o.0. Needless to say, he was then hit with Cure III & IVs from all of us instantly. At all costs, we had to keep Gates alive by any means, ^^. Well, that was the only bad thing that happened. We finish it off, and now.....

I've spammed Savage Blade on just about everything I've fought, lol! {Thank you}{Everyone} so much!

I've found his AoE to plan for and not ignore. I was doing this for a PLD friend of mine and after he was starting to get low he constantly spammed his temper tantrum (whatever the aoe is called, all scorpions do it) and it required to do quite a bit of healing. Two mages died because they weren't paying attention. The AoE has some distance so you can still get hit even if you are not immediately on him.

Not that it's new advice but mages should definetely stay back and be prepared to probably have to use some low level curagas.

LOL, now I just need to gather up people soon to do this for me at 73 and Evisceration at 71.

EDIT: LOL mispelled weren't

Although you're information is great, you've got one thing wrong: Swift Blade is the Paladin only Weapon Skill. Yes, Savage Blade is for Paladin, but it is also for Dark Knight, Red Mage, and Warrior.

Savage Blade

Savage Blade is the final sword weapon skill for PLD and unlike your other WSs to date, it can only be obtained on completion of a long and difficult quest. The reason that Savage Blade is essential to have is not because it is the most damaging WS in your ******** but because it occupies a great place on the Skillchain chart where it's useful for making Level3 Light Skillchains, which are the most damaging SCs in the game.

Savage Blade Quest: Old Wounds

Quest Giver: Curilla
Min. Job Lvl: 71+
Min. Sword Skill: 240+

If you're ready to accept the mission, head to Chateau d'Oraguille in San d'Oria and speak with the leader of the Temple Knights, Curilla (Elvaan female in IM armor). If you meet the requirements, she will tell you that you have progressed sufficiently in skill level to compete in the San d'Oria tournaments, but that you need to perform one last feat of sword mastery before you may challenge San d'Oria's best.

She proceeds to hand you a key item as well as a sword, the Sapara of Trials. She instructs you to master the sword by weakening it's powers, which roughly means you need to remove the latent effect off of it by participating in skillchains and performing weapon skills. The number of SCs and WSs you need to do before the sword is sufficiently weakened goes by a strict point-based system:

Solo-WS: 1 pt. (Any Sword WS can be used)

Start LVL1 SC: 1 pt. (Reverberation, Liquefaction etc...)
   Close LVL1 SC: 2 pt.

Start LVL2 SC: 2 pt. (Distortion, Fragmentation etc...)
   Close LVL2 SC: 3 pt.

Start LVL3 SC: 3 pt. (Darkness, Light)
   Close LVL3 SC: 5 pt.

   ---------------------
   Total Needed: 300 pt.
   ---------------------

Participate in SCs until you've accumulated enough points for the latent effects on the Sapara of Trials to dissappear. (Note: the text on the item description will remain, but the effects will expire) The best way to do this is find a SAM buddy and and do Swift Blade > Tachi: Gekko and then switch the order around on the next and so on. Chaining with a DRK and Cross Reaper would work too, but DRKs don't get TP as quickly.

After the latent effects are off of the Sapara of Trials, return to Curilla and trade her the sword. She will hand you yet another key item and tell you to proceed to Quicksand Caves.

PLD Weapon Skill NM: Girtablulu

You will Need:
- Balanced alliance of 12+ Lvl70+ people,
- Map of Quicksand Caves:(from Treasure Coffer),
- Silent Oils,
- Lots of patience.

After turning in the sword, Curilla asks you to go to Quicksand Caves, find a ??? inside and kill Girtablulu, a difficult NM scorpion. Of course, like most everything for us PLDs, it's not as easy as it sounds. If just killing the scorpion NM wasn't hard enough, getting to the ??? is an even harder task.

Getting to the NM requires you to pass through the Altepa Gate, which is located at (I-6) in Western Altepa. In order for you to open the gate, you must activate 4 seperate columns/switches scattered across Western Altepa that are only accessible through Quicksand Caves.

The Altepa Gate

You need to get this gate open before you can reach the NM. The gate is located at (I-6) of Western Altepa but is only accessible through Quicksand Caves and can only be opened when 4 columns/switches are activated. At this point, you're going to have to split up the alliance into 4 seperate groups to go after each column/switch to open the gate. Remember, mobs in Quicksand caves will still aggro at 70+ so it's a good idea if everybody can Sneak themselves.

1) Emerald Column
Send 2 party members to (D-12) of Western Altepa. From there, have them zone into Quicksand Caves and head for (F-7) on the map. On the way, they may encounted a door that can only be opened by having 2 people stand on a weight-switch. Once at (F-7) they will find a sand whirlpool where they can drop through to a lower level. Once they've dropped, have them head to the zone at (H-4) on the map. Once they are back in Western Altepa, they should see the Emerald Column. Have them click on the column and head back to join the rest of the alliance.

2) Sapphire Column
Send another 2 party members to (G-5) of Western Altepa. Have them zone into Quicksand Caves and pass through another weight-switch doorway and head for the zone at (D-8) on their map. Once there, have them look for the Sapphire Column and examine it to activate it. After they are done, have them catch up with the rest of the alliance.

3) Topaz Column
Send the rest of the alliance to (J-9) of Western Altepa and have them wait at this spot until the gate is opened. Send 1 party member into Quicksand Caves and have them head for (D-11). Then have them head to the farthest room on their right-hand side and fall through a whirlpool to a lower level. From there, have them zone to (C-6) to Western Altepa where they can reach and examine the Topaz Column. When they are done, have them re-join the alliance at (J-9).

4) Ruby Column
Once the other 3 switches/columns have been activated, gather the entire alliance at (J-9) of Western Altepa and enter Quicksand Caves. Head north to (K-6) and drop through yet another whirlpool. From there, have the entire alliance zone to (N-4) on the map to Western Altepa.

From here, send 1 person to activate the Ruby Column while the rest of the alliance heads north through the interconnected tunnels to the Altepa Gate at (I-6). The Altepa Gate looks like a tall set of double doors. Once all 4 columns have been activated, the Altepa Gate will open and stay open for about 15-30 mins. Make sure everybody hurries through the gate and once the alliance is gathered behind it, proceed into Quicksand Caves.

The ??? to spawn Girtablulu is at (I-6) on your map once you've entered Quicksand Caves. Be careful, the mobs in this area should check Decent or Even to 70+ and there is an NM that lurks around the center area and it detects through Sneak. Clear the room at (I-6) of all mobs and prepare for a fun fight.

Girtablulu

Girtablulu can be fought like any mid-level NM. The scorpion has rotten accuracy but hits hard when it connects. There's not much AoE to speak of but keep your mages well away for safety. The only thing to really worry about is to watch the tank's hp when Girtablulu performs it's special attack, which can cause significant damage. Make sure to bring adequate healing power and this fight should go by without a hitch. Once Girtablulu is dead, check the ??? again to receive yet another key item.

Now head back to San d'Oria and speak w/ Curilla again. After a short cutscene where you learn a bit more about Curilla and her eye, you will receive your long-awaited prize: Savage Blade!

Congratulations on gaining your last ultimate Weapon Skill for Paladin!!
