Contents [hide]

General Information

  • Has an auto-Regen effect during the daytime that cannot be dispelled. Has no auto-Regen effect during the night.

  • Sabotender Bailarina's kick attacks are significantly stronger than its punch attacks.

  • From 100% to roughly 40% of its health, Sabotender Bailarina will only perform one TP move whenever it obtains 100% TP. Between 40% and 20%, it will perform two TP moves instead of one, and from 20% down to its death, it will perform three TP moves.

Sabotender Bailarina's Special Attacks

  • Photosynthesis - Self target Regen effect (Effect can be dispelled).

    • Sabotender Bailarina is only able to perform Photosynthesis during the daytime.

  • 1000 Needles - AoE physical damage.

    • Damage is equal to one thousand divided by the number of targets in range of the attack (i.e. Five targets in range of 1000 Needles will take 200 damage each)

Historical Information

Bailarina is the Spanish word for a female dancer of classical dances.

Sabotender is a portmanteau of the words saboten, which means "cactus" in Japanese, and pretender.

Our ls just took this NM down as our first major feat. Party consisted of:

75NIN/WAR(me)
75BRD/WHM
73RDM/BLM
63SMN/WHM
61WHM/BLM
61THF/NIN

Our basic strategy was to mambox2 and have me being the only person feeding it TP. In addition to that, keeping Ward up as often as possible. The thf handled despawning the cactuar whenever it roamed too close to our party, and just played meat shield for absorbing 1k needles.

There are 3 stages to this NM's ws spam. For the first 2/3 of the fight it used one tp move infrequently, then started using two back to back. Finally in the last 10% or so it would use 3 in a row.

Mambo and Haste are definitely essential to this fight, coupled with elegy/slow. With our setup it made for a very long fight (almost an hour and almost two stacks of shihei), but very little tp was fed to Bailarina, and made it capable for the support that was there to keep everyone full.

Also, as for those who say he doesn't hit hard, I consider 300-400dmg crits hard (:

Killed this fool for my dune boots on Phoenix. Twiggy(bst/whm), Iyaca(bst/whm), Diamianos(rdm/blm), Xaea(brd/whm), Saltypotatoe(drg/whm) and I(mnk/nin) defeated Sabotendor Bailarina. We had no real tank so hate was a huge problem. All I can say is bst own! All of us died more than once except for Xaea. We didn't have the brd on our first try so we lost. We didn't wipe though, but gave up because the bsts ran out of mobs to charm and jug timers weren't up. We won our second try post brd ^^. We had to zone in and out to get rid of hate. We had at least one bst up at all times. Love bst! Love them I say! Was a long, crazy battle. Man when it started spamming 1000 needles it got hectic but it made me laugh oddly enough. Maybe I'm nuts hahaha... The killing blow was a 300dmg chi blast from me, Aero III from Diamianos, and Banish II from Xaea, and some melee from me as well. Was tons of fun. We were all 73+ by the way.

About 30 minutes ago, I was running around in quicksand caves as a way to relieve my boredom when i saw this thing. I had never heard of it before, so I decided to kill it. Note; I am currently a Tarutaru 72rdm/blm. Well, I buff up and pull with slow. The start of the fight was pretty frantic, because it hit alot harder than I thought it would, but I managed to do ok. Stoneskin was always up for 1000 Needles, so it wasn't that big of a problem. He did start spamming 1000 Needles towards then end of the fight, so I chainspelled and Finished him off with Fire III. No drop, so I came here to find out what it was. Thats my story, the real trick is as far as I can tell was to keep it debuffed at all times. I had no problems with spell or melee accuracy on him. Really, compared to the Maat fight, this guy was easy.

That's because you didn't fight this one. The boots are 100% drop, and this guy is not soloable by a 72 rdm, you're thinking of a different Cactaur.

Ok, ive been reading some posts about how its impossible to trio this NM, so i will tell you all the strategy of how to do it;
I had to post this over 3 posts, as it wouldn't let me do it in one single post.

3 Man strategy for this NM is as follows:

Tank: either mnk/nin, ninja or theif. I tanked this as Mnk/Nin when we were getting the boots for my friend. I have maxed merits on my monk, and pretty decent gear, so dont expect to be able to tank this as a freshly leveled 75 mnk. You wont be able to. Theif tank may be a bit tricky, you need to be able to deal large amounts of damage as its nearing Low HP (due to 1000 needles spam), theif cant do this where as mnk and nin can.

Mages: Any combo of Bard, Red Mage or White mage. Im going to say bard is a must, this thing attacks really really slowly with elegy and slow on, making it so easy to tank. When i went as a trio, the Bard landed all debuffs, the white mage had alot of trouble sticking anything. Red mage can definelty stick slow/para/blind, they have all been able to in the numerous other times i have killed this NM.

The fight itself: When you get to the area bailarina spawns in, head to near the back of the tunnel, where the zone to altepa desert is. Have one person zone out, then back in, so you can see exactly where the zone is. This part is very important. If you fight right next to the zone, you will not agro the spider and cactuar spawns in the tunnel. As a trio, the fight itself will be quite long, so things will start repoping when the NM is still on 40% hp, so if you agro them you are sure to wipe.

Once you have found the zone, kill the cactuar and spider to build tp. Then pull Bailarina right next to the zone. Bard should sing March/Mambo if you are a Monk, if you are ninja or theif you can probably get away with March/Minuet, this thing had terrible accuracy on me even with my semi decent evasion, i doubt it will even be able to hit a ninja or theif (especially seeing as a ninja can debuff it a bit theirself e.g kurayami, hojo etc.)
Obviously haste should be kept up on the tank at all times, and the whm/rdm should try to stick slow/para if you are a mnk, a nin can debuff it themselves though easily.

Obviously, a Ninja/thf will just straight up blink tank it, a Monk however will Counterstance/Blink tank, using counter to get up shadows if you are caught with them down.

Bailarina itself is a typical Monk mob. However, it has an extremely high delay, especially with Slow/Elegy on it. To give you an idea of how slow it attacks, once it had finished its last attack round (and take off all my shadows in the process) i was able to just cast Utsusemi:Ichi, then about 5 seconds after i had finished casting, it began its next attack round. It is so so easy to get up an Ichi cast against this NM is untrue.

However, although it has a high delay, it can do all the normal monk/war moves, including; Double attack for 3 hits with its fists ; Kick attack, Often two times in a row!

Which is cheating, because us players can only kick once in an attack round; Counter your hits, wiping shadows in the process :( .
It does however hit like a bit of a pansy, even with counterstance up it was never hitting for more than about 150 dmg.

So, its normal hits are very very easy to tank, but its TP moves make the fight a little more challenging :)

I have heard alot of rumours about its 1000 needles move, and i will tell you the real truth about it.

During the day, Bailarina can use either 1000 Needles, OR Photosynthesis.

During the night , it only uses 1000 Needles. (plants can't carry out Photosynthesis during the night, can they?)

So basically, you want to fight it during the day, so it will use the crappy photosynthesis sometimes instead of the damaging 1000 needles.

In the first 80% of the fight, it will just use 1000 needles OR Photosynthesis, like a regular normal mob. As a monk with subtle blow, it was using TP moves about 1/2 as often as i was. It does in no way shape or form spam 1000 needles through the whole fight. Sure, if you have 10 people meleeing it of course its going to spam it, but if you have just one person hitting it, then it will hardly use it at all. Go and have 10 people melee any mob and tell me how often it uses its TP move. Bailarina is no different.

So, for the first 80% of the fight its just a regular mob, but when it gets to around 20% HP, things start to get interesting. At 20% hp, it will start using 1000 needles (Or photosynthesis during the day) twice in a row, straight after each other. When it gets to 15% it will use it twice every 15 seconds or so. And under 10% it will basically just spam TP moves every few seconds. Under 10% is where it gets rather hairy. If you are a monk you are best off saving Hundred fists to around this time, to kill it fast.

When i killed this, it was during the day, and towards the end (last 5%) it was feeling nice i guess, so it just decided to use photosynthesis all the time :P If it spams 1000 Needles though, you are going to all need your 2hrs :P preferably a Whms Benediction if you have one.

Anyway, if all has gone well to this point, you will have your shiny new pair of dune boots. They are a 100% drop from this NM, and they really make a big difference to your kick attacks damage. The best pair of boots for MNK by far.

I hope you found this guide helpfull, and i hope it will show you that this guy can be killed with small amounts of people. Even if you aren't sure you can kill it, you may aswell try, as you can always zone if you get into trouble. When i killed it trio, we weren't sure if we could kill it either, but we went down there and decided to try anyway, and it worked out in the end :D

We had 13 people, mostly in the 70s. 2 MNK, a NIN, a DRK, a PLD, three WHM, a RDM, a BRD, two WARs, and a THF. And we wiped horribly.

I can't believe any story of three or less people killing it straight-up. He SPAMS 1,000 Needles as he gets lower in health. If you don't have 8 or more people at LEAST, you probably won't fare very well facing him.

So, yea. We wiped once, but one WHM was able to zone and stay alive. We got everyone up and un-weakened, and did it again with a little more planning time. Pulled the mob to the tunnel zone, fought it, got the drop! My first piece of Rare/Ex dream gear. ^^

Thanks to everyone who helped! Sorry about the mass death. =X

This NM is different, it can use 1000 needles whenever it wants, 3 seconds back to back it used it. I'm Hal's LS leader, and honestly only reason we wiped is cuz everyone aggroed the entire room while I was checking stuff out >_>; Anyways, once we took care of mobs & rested after the initial wipe it was easy as hell.
Just Trio'd this NM today.

Ok so first off this NM may seem like a joke when you have an alliance but not with 3 people. I was there as Rdm (75/nin37) trying to get boots for my 75 mnk. I got my 2 BLM(both 75/whm) friends to come help. We applied reraise and let the slaughter began. We used a DoT scheme to keep it from regening while we zoned. As soon as I pulled it to zone with gravity I placed a Bio II on it whlie 2 blm nuked with thunder IV. We all zoned and rezoned about 10 seconds later. Bio II kept it from regening while no hate was distributed among pt members. I would wait for "Bio wears off on <t>." and grav and Bio and blm would nuke again. We did this for about 40min till it finally went down and got my shiney boots. I'm pretty sure this NM could be duo'd if this strat is used will just take alot longer. So if you say this NM can't be duo'd you are sadly mistaken. a very skilled Rdm and a So-so Blm cn take thi down in about an 1 hour and 15-30min. As for solo, Impossible. At one point or another he will use 1000 needles back to back which will put an end to you. Just follow the Bio II Nuke scheme and you should be fine duo/trio+. You just need to make sure once you zone into west desert you zone back fairly quickly to be able to watch for when bio wears. It regens 10% hp back fairly quickly when no DoT or hate is aplide to this NM. He did use his Photosynthises move a few times but with grav on you will easly have enough time to apply disple. Hope this helps anyone out there.

75RDM/nin and 75RDM/blm, we got him to 60% with a spider add on us, which we kept slept, had to zone because stonskin got low and he used 1000needles, need to remember to reuse stoneskin next time x.x I dont think "We" couldve won on that run, But it could be "Possible" If somehow could avoid spider at zone, he builds resistance to gravity quick, and hits for about 30-60 with 150-200 kicks, With 327 enfeebling magic he resisted bind every few casts, and grav began to wear instantly after 15min of fighting, He doesent appear to build resistance to bind duration so I guess, with 2 amazing rdm he could be killed, but the spider makes it a coin toss, He can definitly be killed by 3, All in all it was a very good learning expirence, and /nin (for running past him when bound, and recasting bind,) Is definitly the way to go, He has, Very roughly, 25000HP, Kick attacks every, or almost every time, He builds tp rather quick, so, if your high on numbers its prolly not too wise to fill your group with monks, nins, or...anyone with a kraken club :p It may sound somwhat bizzare, but with a full group its far wiser to keep very close to him, where as with 2 people in range of 1000 needles, 500 dmg to each could be hard to recover from, with 5 people in range, only 200 dmg a peice, eaisly recovered from by curaga 2. He poped the first round of cactuars we killed, around the room he pops, 2 in one stone hallway, and 1 in a tunnel, in place of one in the stonehallway he appear in the room, So hes definitly lottery, any job with stonskin or a lot of HP can solo PH, (Although they are hard to pull) And are EP-DC to 75, fairly weak hits. The boots are so worth it and I am looking forward to getting them someday, Best of luck to anyone who tries this NM! ^^

It was a tough fight, but with a few vital Curagas from the BRD and BLM, we managed to survive. Well, almost everyone, I died at about 30% remaining... but we still managed, and I finally have my Dune Boots.

Wow so many people on this forum posting that they killed it with 1-3 people. Apparently they didn't read all the posts like i just did, or else they would realize that this mob has a few things make it very different than Sabotender Bailarin. 1. IT ALWAYS DROPS DUNE BOOTS 2. ITS F@#$ING TALLER THAN A HUME. 3. its level 80-82 and 4. in my experience gravity paralyze slow sleep do not stick at all. I had a pty of 12 people camping this for me and after about 3 hours ppl got bored and left/went to bed. Of course about 20 mins later here comes a giant cactuar. Well its not giant to a tall elvaan but it was to the mages. Ended up fighting it with 6 ppl i think. 73mnk/war(me) 73blm/whm 75whm/blm 65-70rdm/blm 67mnk/war 73rng/nin. Pld and 3 others left before it popped. Well we decided to give it a try since hell at this level 2hrs do pretty good damage.

OK THIS IS THE PART NEW POSTERS MUST READ.

73mnk/war Hundred Fists
+
73Rng/nin EES
+
73BLM/whm Manafont
+
65-70rdm/blm Chainspell
+
67mnk/war Hundred Fists
+
75whm/blm Benediction
=
5 deaths one whm running like a ***** to the zone and a mad *** cactuar with 90% hp chasing him out.

In short, read the other posts before you call someone stupid or whatever because YOU are on the wrong forum. You nor anyone else have ever duo'd solo'd or even trio'd this mob and nobody will believe otherwise until you give them a video.

Oh and one more thing even if gravity stuck it is in such an inconvenient place that you couldn't kite it to death because there are 3 other cactuars in the lil HALLWAY that it pops in and anywhere else there are ants scorps and spiders just waiting to take a bite out of your ***. Plus its regen is much MUCH more than any nin or thf/nin can inflict so there is no way you evaded it to death either.

EDIT: My bad, i suppose a very well trained pty of 75 maybe 5-6 ppl would possibly have a chance other than that just read up in my thing.

People are getting confused, there are 2 different cactuar NM's in Quicksands. The one that drops the throwing item is "Bailarin"

Quote:
Level: Unknown
Zone: Quicksand Caves
Family: Sabotender
Crystal: Water
Weak to: Dark, Ice
Lottery Spawn From: Sabotender Bailaor
Behavior for Sabotender Bailarin:
Aggressive

Total Spawn Points: 1
Comments for Sabotender Bailarin:
Lottery spawn from the Sabotender Bailaor.
Located at: Enter Quicksand Caves from Altepa Eastern Desert at K-7; go to the next map at F-10; found at G-7 to H-8 on that map.
Killable by: 6 characters level 65
Drops around 9000 gil
Special Attacks: 1000 Needles

Dropped from Sabotender Bailarin:
Bailathorn
Cactuar Needle
Cactuar Root
Cactus Stems

I have never killed the Dune Boots one (Bailarina) but i know it takes a lot of people.

I *have* solo'd the other one and can say it's maybe level 60-65. I was RDM/DRK and it aggro'd me on my way back to exit from the Shaman's Cloak NM. I used my tactics pearl and my NPC lasted 2 1k needles, at which point it was at around 30%. At this point I turned away to stop it's tp build and just kept stun, drain, poison 2, bio 2, and blaze spikes to wear it down slowly. When I had full hp again and decent mp I would re-engage for Vorpal Blade. Got drop for a measly 120k, meh. Did 4 1k needles in all, not bad when you have 1200+hp and SS phalanx.

First of You are Retarted if you think this.. And if you did, Id like to see a vid.. First off this is MNK type Mob with Kick Attacks thatare X2 the reg. dmg. Shadows would not stay up for long.. Also his AOE divided by 2 ppl is 500 dmg each. Shadows do not stop this! Also he has a moderate regen. So even if you Could fight this NM you woulnt kill him. You need to be putting alot of dmg out to even take his Massive HP down. 12 PPL would be nice for this fight. I think 8 75's can handle this with a mixed set up and a atleast 2 blm's. Overall prepare for a long fight. Took 8 ppl 15mins to get him to half health. End of storie!

Yes, most posts of solo/duo in this thread are BS, because they are confusing it with another NM.

But this CAN BE DUOED, by two blm/rdm binding and graving. Extremely easy, nobody got hit, no 1000 needles.

The end.

I don't see how anyone can duo this, a thf 74 and I smn 71, just tried to duo this, not only does it use 1k needles fairly often but after about 5% hp taken off, it hits for 350~400 dmg to a 74 thf with good eq.

Why do people have so much trouble with him. It was easily duoed by a 71DRG/BLM and 75BLM/WHM. The BLM accidentally aggroed it while searching for the Teleport Altep stone. It did hit me hard as I was tanking, but Super Jump put a lot of hate on my wyvern as the BLM did mostly enfeebling. Only a Bailathorn to show for achievement. If you don't believe, DRG name is Lucade and the BLM name is Minhthao on the Remora Server.

if you go fight this and you are 70 or less, you'll find this has pretty high evasion. bring your sushi if you melee. even if you're 70+, i'd recommend sushi.

when i did this, i went with 12, most 70+, some 60+. we wiped first time b/c we only had 1 support job (brd). 2nd time we did this, i bought 12 yagudo drinks and a bunch of au laits for the people who were helping me. we were also more organized using SC's instead of just spamming WS. this has a lot of HP and is just plain annoying. by the end of the fight, we were doing ok HP wise, but everyone was MP drained.

don't forget this is a monk-type. so it can and WILL counter your attacks. so if you melee, stand to the side or the back of the enemy unless you are tanking. thank god this doesn't use hundred fists. it did 1k needles about 15-20x, doing about 83 dmg each time. won't be able to solo or duo this thing. if you use nin-tank, MAYBE you could DoT it to death (without attacking) since it won't gain TP. but god that would take forever.

btw, thank you to all of you who helped me. i really do appreciate it, especially those of you who i never did a favor for. look me up when you need a favor, i have your names all written down.

dune boots are really ugly, but have to love the hidden kick attack bonus. really useless for other jobs that can equip. also has another great hidden latent effect: returns 2 mil to wallet for selling wulong shoes.
