soloed it as a blm75/nin37 started fight with flood2 to see if it would resist me and it didnt took about 40% HP off with that spell, noticed it couldnt even hit me i put up shadows got in melee range welding a pair of Misericorde's and went to make a sandwich came back it was dead, pretty easy.

Yes, easy.

I just soloed this thing...as a 75brd. It took 16:47 for me to finish him, but between 2 ballads and Spirit Taker, there was no way I was gonna run out of MP. I wasn't able to cause much damage, so I just used all the DOTs I could manage (Requiem V and Dia II) and slowly killed him like that.

Would've been FAR faster if I took a friend with me!
Easy for 75BLM

Went as 75BLM/37RDM, and the SMN brought her 51WHM. We melee'd it down to about half ( each using Jupiter's Staves, took about 4 minutes or so ) and then I nuked three times. It seems to resist magic a little, but not enough to help it. Silence, paralyze, slow, and any other debuffs work well against this, unlike some AF mobs. With Stoneskin and Phalanx, I think it managed to hit me once, for 30, during the whole fight. Not really scary at all.

One thing I will say is that this thing likes to spam Hex Eye, which will paralyze anyone standing in front of (and facing) and the mob, assuming it actually hits. While meleeing, it only managed to nail me with paralyze once out of about six tries. Once I decided to nuke I simply turned my back on it to avoid any mid-cast paralysis. ^^

Overall, I'd say this is one of the cooler AF fights I've helped with. It takes place in the Cloister of Tremors, and you get the cool "Prime Fight" music, too. The music makes the NM seem a lot more dangerous than it actually is. ^^

My setup:
59Rdm(Mithra)
Gear: all the +Int you can aquire except the tortise shield, I used Turtle+1 for the Vit. Rose Wand +1 was Casting weapon, brought Hornetkneedle for Enstone + rapid attack. (Just incase I wasn't gonna be able to kill by Spells)

Stratagy:
Reverse tank this thing to negate paralize, Bind, gravity, Silence, aspir, Drain, Bio2, Drown(lower it's str so it hits softer), then normal buffs, Protect, Shell, Phalanx, Stoneskin. Dark based so use Earth spells.

Went 1/1 on the fight. I reccomend this fight to most anyone who can keep their calm, nothing new here to any Rdm that ever solo's or has skill
Easy

Extremely easy fight as a 75whm/37nin
Was only taking off 1~2% per hit, but hexa done about 10~15%
Wouldnt advise a 40~45 smn soloing though, dont think carby would last long to be honest.

fought it as rdm65/blm32.

waited until lightsday.
food: steamed crab
weapon: wise wizard's anelace, darksteel buckler
rest are all exp pt gears

buff up and start the fight with silence, and then rdm routine enfeebs, choke burn shock too.
it doesn't hit hard and has bad accuracy,
death ray and hex eye miss a lot.
blink was on me for a while.
i got tp300 and stoneskin was still up.

i only have 587mp with int gears on, and after i finish the fight with stoneIII i have about 50ish mp left.
aspir whenever possible, nuke if you wanna break record.
and of course refresh.

I knocked this Guy down as Solo @ BLM66/WHM33 Malee Style Staff took 18 minutes tho I had Stoneskin & Blink up the whole time the Eye move that paralyzes you stuck like 1 or 2 times it is very powerful I couldn't cast Paralyna on myself
Finally after 10-15 tries I finally was successfully or it wore off I would not attemp to Solo this yourself Resists Sleep. Castable Spells Paralyze Dia/Bio Silence. Uses Firga Fire II etc I forget what else. The Accuracy is Greater then you would think about. I had a Few Close calls
I used Drain and Aspir Mostly ( Key is to conserve as much MP as possible ) if you Fail to do so then you could fall

People keep asking if you can switch jobs to do AFs. Here is the answer....

Yes and No and here is why

Any Quested af (IE af1, 2, 3 and hands) can be completed by another job IF you have the quest activated (and yes that means you can unlock the coffer with another job IF you have the hands quest activated).

The 2 pieces that you must find in a coffer (thats are NOT the gloves/hands) you must be on the job that the af is for
Not too bad

This was really easy.. I helped a smn friend do this, I went in as a 60 RDM/blm, we took the mob down in less than 6:30.. Not setting any records, but that was never my goal.

ok so when i fight this guy... shud i use elemental avatars to fight then just summon carby for 2hr? (themob wuddo extra to carby as dark element and carby would do extra too bein light) so shud i keep carby all match, dont use carby at all, or switch to carby for 2hr but use others to avoid extra damage from being weak to darkness?

Might help with the level mystery, I soloed it as a 54 SMN, and got 23 xp, so that'd make it around level 44-45, right?

This guys would probably be cake for any lvl 50+ SMN, all you need to do is kite it and 3x Astral Flow it. At 54 I screwed up my first Astral Flow and I still took it out.

It does spam spells/specials like they're going out of style though. It uses Death Ray/Hex Eye like crazy, and it seems that his strongest spell is Waterga 2. If you do plan to 3 Astral Flow it, make sure that your avatar isn't paralyzed when you use it.

23 exp(-6 levels), 36 exp(-5 levels), 43 exp(-4 levels), 50 exp(-3 levels), 72 exp(-2 levels), 83 exp(-1 level), 100 exp (even match). At least I'm pretty sure that's close anyways >.>

I would guess it's 46-50 after everything I've read up here... however congrats on the solo... I plan to solo as well with Ifrit once I hit lvl 50.

Yeah are you able to get the quest as your SMN then do it as another job? Because if so I would do it as my RDM, anyone know?

As 52 DRG I landed a 1008 Penta Thrust on him. I think I missed a hit, too, all I had was a Mithkabob and Berserk, with 100 TP.

Soloed as a 62RDM easily. Took 9+ minutes, but hey, who wants to be taking any damage when you can take 0 for the entire fight ^^. Just meleed him for a bit then finished it off with nukes.

Yay they added my pic! I took one before the fight but forgot to get a closer one during it ><.

Did him easy... very easy.

Had 60 Pld, 64 Blm, 58 Sam and 43 Smn.

Missed the record time with 5 seconds even though the Blm used ancient magic.

Could probably have shattered the record otherwise.

(note: this comment is not directly about you, but this is the only place it will fit)

well of course it was easy! you had level 60's helping you. you know..for once, i would like to see people say it was 'easy' if they did it with a party of 'properly' leveld people, instead of people who are 15+ levels or so higher than the recommended level
Question
# Oct 17 2004 at 10:37 AM Rating: Default
When I unlock the quest, would it be possible to switch to my black mage (its 62) and go that way? Or must I be my summoner to do it?
NM Fight
# Jun 01 2004 at 2:57 PM Rating: Good
Went after this guy for Smn AF-1. Had a party of 3, which included a 61 Rdm, a 50 Whm, and me a 40 Smnr. The fight took perhaps 3 minutes and change. The Rdm fought the jelly and we just kept him buffed and healed. At some point near the end of the fight the nm did an attack that hit me the smn'r for over 400 dmg. Left me with 39 hp. Nothing really hit me again so had plenty of time to heal out of it. I was a good distance away but still on the upper level. So if you are the 40 Smn'r in this match dress a bit more fo HP so you can get past the attack. IF you go on this fight try and bring a 60 plus to do the tanking, it is the key to success.
