Lol how did you kill it if you dont know when it spawns? It spawns when you trade a quus to the ??? at the back of the lighthouse. If you wanna know what the clock is for it says at the top of this page under "Involved in quests"

buy a stack of quus and its level up time!!
I was about to spawn this sucker when I saw two level 10's (no subjobs) fighting it. When they were done they told me to go ahead. I spawned it and did Jump + High Jump = Dead Bernie. I got lots of /cheers from the level 10's. ^^ On my way back another newbie complimented me, "That's a very nice dragon."
And all I was expacting was going out to fetch 500 gil and some fame.... Heh.

The best part of Final Fantasy XI is its rich storyline. It separates this game from other MMORPGs. I chose to give my character a storyline that goes along with the game's storyline. I find that this is a more fun way to play the game. Playing the game just to fight in the endgame and collect elite equipment is very boring and is totally missing the main objective of the game, which is to guide your character through the storyline which is to save the world.
the real question is how long would it take you to die if u aggro'd it and then let it keep hitting you ^^
it would depend on how leveled his/her evasion was.

This guy isnt much of an nm pffffft. All u have to do is get quest for it in Bastok (shouldnt need too much fame) get the quus by any means possible and bring it to the lighthouse on the circled area above. Trade it to the ??? mark and pretty much immediately it spawns very close to u. Kill that little punk for your steam clock and turn it in for a few gil and completed quest.
So there I am in Bastok just waiting for friend to come so we can go camp Mary and i decide to raise my fame up...I go and spawn Bernie and I take my time opening up attack menu since im on phone...This lvl 15 WAR no sub jumps out at it and steals it from me and laughs at me a bunch of times...I get angry at him and tell him that this is a forced spawn NM..then i am called a n00b a lvl 15 WAR using a sword called me a 41 WAR /THF a n00b. I got angry so i left o_o

The quest that Bubbly Bernie is involved in sucks because you have to travel back and forth if you wanna get fame from this quest

after you kill it and get the clock can you fihgt it again over and over without having to run back with everyclock you get? like get 6+ clocks at a time or can you only get it for 1 clock then have to run back give the clock to the lady, run back fight it and get another?
You can only hold one of the clocks at a time, if you kill him while you have a clock in your possession, he will not drop another one.
But you don't have to run all the way back to the lady before getting another one, just zone to Mines then send the clock to yourself, then when you have nine (8 in your delivery box and one in your possession, techincalloy you can do more if you have a mule or 2, give them to the lady (still have to do it one at a time). I'm not sure if doing it this way is actually quicker, but it certainly seems to go by quicker.

Here try this one out. Get four friends, have two stay at the gate to Bastok mines and have the other two stay in Bastok Market, while you camp beside where the ??? are that spawn Berni. Now kill the crab and make sure one of the gate sitters lot on the clock. They will then run to the Mines AH and send the clock to one of the Market sitters Mog House. They sitters in turn will run from Mog House to the old lady to drop off the item. At 500 gil a drop you will make some easy money really quickly. Then change around positions to get a chance to build up fame. I'm Maxed out in Bastok thanks to this little trick ;)

you can also put the clocks in the AH for 500 gil and then go back and forth from markets doing the quest but you will need to zone from markets to be able to give the clock to her again

omg bubbly bernie is such a great NM for starting out and making quick gil...not only is it easier to not have to camp him, but I made a fortune off of selling stacks of quus in bast^^<3

heh, bubbly bernie became my best friend while getting fame for titan, though...i hate it that others can steal your spawns...because there were a lot of people at the time who jus waited there...and waited for me to give a quus to the ???...they were japanese people at that...never thought i would see someone that noobish ><...heh...they tried to get him each time before me...lucky for me poison is faster then what they were trying to use...so, while gettin rank 3 fame in bastok, i also made me like 20k from the clocks!
On what level could a 6 person party kill it? 5?(thinking about doing this just for kicks in a party, maybe it can turn in decent xp too ;) )

This NM can help u with ure bastok fame and ull make sum cash at the same time. It helps if ure a blm with warp so u can get bac fast. If u see quus cheap(100G or less) in some1s bazaar buy em.

Reapeat the quest for the Steamclock for 500gil for as long as possible might make you enuf to buy somthing half decent

from what u guys are saying, it seems he's hard to kill...well after reading ur posts i decided to try it i went as thf/rdm he wasn't hard at all just sleep then SATA and he's dead...maybe it's just cause im' higher lvl than u guys but i'm stilla noob nonetheless :)
