Buy a quus, go behind the lighthouse, trade the quus to the ??? in the bush, and there he is.

I went there as a fully unequiped 20 monk, I thought it would put up some sort of a fight, My first swing took about 1/4 of its HP away. I just sat there wasted it, it didn't even get a hit on me because I countered it. It was pitiful, and I made 370 gil off of it, so I guess it was worth it, I also got a land crab meat so thats even more gil, not a bad job I did.

Hah, I didn't know it was a non-spawning mob. I was a bit on the inebriated side and decided to camp it seeing as how I've never taken down an NM before. Well, sure enough, it spawned, I beat the hell out of it and severely pissed off some taru BLM. I feel kinda bad now, because I really thought I had bagged it fair and sqaure, but not much I can do now. Oh well, that's a lesson learned, I guess.
lol very weird way killing it

You CAN cast cure on other monsters but it wont have an effect. it will only have an effect on undeads.

Bernie does not have a spawn time. All you have to do is trade a Quus (fish) to the ??? near the left backhand side of the lighthouse and he will appear. This is just a simple quest from Bastok. The reward for this quest is 500 gil, and it is repeatable..So nooooooo...this isnt just like the other NMs that u have to camp out..and noooo.. its not good for stealing other people their Monster. :D:D Hope this helps you out.
It easy

RE: spawn time

Bernie does not have a spawn time. All you have to do is trade a Quus (fish) to the ??? near the left backhand side of the lighthouse and he will appear. You can do it as many times as you want for as many clocks as you want. (Like in a full party, trade 6 Quus one at a time and collect 1 clock for each person) Then you run back to town for 500gil each, wash, rinse and repeat!
O.o

This guy is easy. You shouldnt have a problem at lvl 10. Not to mention the person that asked about him at 13.
warp.
# Feb 05 2004 at 4:08 PM Rating: Decent
if your a blm and you have warp you can make money rather quickly by yourself, and you dont have to split it with three other people. you run to bernie, kill him, warp to the markets, give the clock to the girl, run back down and repeat.

it really doesnt take that long considering it maybe takes 2 minutes to get from the girls house to bernie, then another minute to get back. all in all, not a bad way to make money for the amount of time.
Fast Money

Ok, advice on doing bubblie bernie if you want to make money off of him:

1. Form a party of 2-4 people depending on how fast the HARDEST HITTING PT member can kill him. If he can kill really fast then 4 people is optimum number of people.

2. The hardest hitting member takes all of the group's quus and heads out to where bernie spawns.

3. All other PT members are "runners" and the runners all head to the gate in Bastok Mines district.

4. One runner takes 2 steps into the South Gustaberg region while the bernie killer is in position to kill.

5. The killer spawns bernie and kills him, he then PASSES ON THE CLOCK while the runner bids on it and the other 2 runners are both still in town. This will cause the runner to get the clock.

6. The runner goes into town and mails the clock to himself (or the killer depending on how many quus are being done).

7. The next runner steps into South Gustaberg to get a clock to mail, and this process can go on as long as the killer has quus to trade bernie, and the ruuner's mailboxes are not full.

If you're mailing list is full then you can clear it by having all people who were sent items check their mog house. For this reason it is recommended that the runners mail to themselves 1st that way they can go check their own mog house to clear their mailing list. Yes this will work if done properly and you can make a lot of money really fast once you understand the system. You will have to still turn the clocks in 1 by 1, but you can turn in 12 clocks in well under 10 minutes just by running back and forth between your mog house and Malene. I've never actually timed myself, but doing it with 4 people as a lv. 28 thf killing bernie I've managed to get 12 clocks per person in under an hour probably under 30 minutes even. I hope this has not been over-complicated and I hope it helps someone.

I crushed it and I'm a level 14 warrior. It's not really meant to be hard at all and it always drops the Steam Clock as long as you don't already have one.

I bought a dozen quus at the AH (on Bahamut) for 500 gil, so completing the quest paid for that. And using the other 11 quus made me a profit of 5500. The only problem is that it takes some time to run back and forth between its spawn point and the lady who takes the clock.

Notorious Monsters are always Impossible to Gauge it would matter if it was lvl 1 and you were lvl 9128481781375735.... it would still be impossible to gauge....

Yes, but keep in mind that some rare spawns are listed here as NM but are not actually NM. For instance Spook is in the NM list, but he cons "Easy prey" to me.
RE: hmmm
# Jul 07 2004 at 11:44 PM Rating: Default
The thing is that it will be Impossible to gauge the first time you fight it. As soon as you kill it then it will show its true sign.

#Anonymous, Posted: Jan 05 2004 at 10:32 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) They all check Impossible to gauge when you're too low to kill it...yes it does mean something, means that you can't kill it!!!! -_-;; At lvl 50 NMs that are low lvls check too weak to be worthwhile, the check will lower as u reach a certain lvl.
RE: Kai
# Jun 30 2004 at 4:12 PM Rating: Decent
Thats wrong, a Notorious Monster will check "Impossible to gauge" whether you are a lvl 1 or a lvl 75. It just doesn't let you gauge their strength to make it harder on you to fight a NM.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jan 03 2004 at 10:26 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I killed him many times.... whenever i kill it i sell the steam clock instead of doing the sorry quest
