Bonze Marberry Picture

Spawns approximately every 20 minutes.

Apparently, an adventuring Ninja saw this Tonberry and named it Marberry, but the details are unknown. 坊主 (bouzu) is a Buddhist monk

So I decided to have a go at the entire Windy mission as far as I can soloing. Now I have a pretty good job set to carry that out, and so far the only mission I needed a group for was M5-1 Skeleton BC. So that's the backstory anyway.

Anyhow, I went to down this NM on my NIN72/DNC30, thinking it should be a piece of cake, since I cleared my tonberry hate beforehand too. Well, it isn't particularly hard I must admit, but you have to keep your eyes open and anticipate all the moves he will pull off, because one oopsie, and you will be licking the temple ground.

My mistake was failing to take into account the tonberry TP wiping move. With my TP gone, there was NO WAY I could stop the -ga other than pray my melee hits will interrupt him... as if you could interrupt a NM casting... =/

So while Everybody's Rancor did a grand total of 0 damage, I ate a ThundergaII, took a melee hit, and promptly ate a BlizzardIII before I could get my shadows up (-ga wiped my freshly casted Ni), so I was licking the temple ground that day... /sigh

Think I'll just go SAM and zerg him...

As my linkshell learned today, this is why you call for help on the tonberries...

We still beat him with no trouble, though. Now I have my Master Caster's bracelets. Woot!

1222 Freeze II(me)
1182 Flare II(me)
1195 Freeze II(me)

I just killed him tonight with a 75 BLM/RDM (me), 75 BLM/WHM, 74 SMN/WHM, and a 75 WHM/BLM. To be honest, any one of us could have probably done it alone.

The key to taking the wind out of him is CLEARING TONBERRY HATE FIRST. I cannot stress that enough; even if you've never done the quest, it takes a grand total of 15 extra minutes (maybe two or three extra if you're repeating the quest). You're only down the cost of 3 gold beastcoins, and a maximum of 1500 gil.

"Everyone's Rancor" hit Garuda for a grand total of zero after hate was reset. When we fought him a second time, it hit for 50 ... the only Tonberry hate we had was from the last kill.

Clear Tonberry hate first, THEN kill this guy. Don't get lazy and skip that step. Without that move, he's an absolute pansy. The hardest part becomes dealing with the peripheral aggro mobs, and potential links. Train to the zone if you have to; the other mobs will disappear, he'll remain.

His only other tricks are the occasional ancient magic and "aga" spells. Any respectable mage should know how to guard against those with their various skills.

You and the other people I've heard all had it easy.

I got nailed with this for 8050; enough to kill me seven times over.

Is there really a need to give these Tonberry's such superhuman powers? >_>

I mean seriously...they're just Mutant Turtle Yoda Ripoffs.

Could a good 68 ninja solo this nm? Will Everyone's Rancor hit shadows?

You bet your sorry butt it eats through shadows..probably stoneskin, blink and Third Eye as well. Rancor and Grudge work like Paladin's Spirit's Within..ignores the targets buffs and goes straight for the organs with life-withdrawing vigor.

How exactly do you do that? I keep hearing funny stories about it. Do you just open the door and sight aggro him down the stairs to the RMTers?

BLM duo
# May 07 2006 at 2:47 PM Rating: Decent
Duo'd 75 BLM/WHM and 68 BLM/WHM. I was shopping idly in Jeuno, and this god-level Taru BLM noticed my nation and rank and /tell to ask if I need the mission. After a short while we gave up looking for anyone else who needed it, and set out.

Almost at the NM, I realized I didn't talk to the NPCs in Kazham yet. Dude says no worries, just get the key and come back after you talk to the NPCs - but let's get the fight out of the way.

The Hover Tank in that room proved to be more hassle than the NM. Took forever to kill when we first cleared the room in preparation, and then it respawned in the middle of our fight with Bonze. Silence didn't stick on Bonze, but we had no problems Stunning and Sleeping him when he tried to start a big nuke. He never had a chance to use Everyone's Rancor. The 75 BLM did eat a Thunder IV or something at the last moment, but I finished Bonze off, Raised my taru companion, and we both got our keys.

I Warped out, returned to Kazham, talked to the NPCs, then went back to Uggalepih to trade the key to the door for the CS. Easy-peasy.

We had gone into the temple looking for a coffer key <which we got first kill with no form of treasure hunter> and found this guy after deciding to look for Carby Mitts ???. We wrecked him. We had a 73 Whm, 74 War <me>, High lvl rng, 72 Sam, and 58 Smn. Fast death. Ranger pulled sidewinder for 800+ then I did Rampage for 1035 with a Distortion for 670, that killed it. One Coffer key, two cursed keys, and two happy Taru ^^

If I remember correctly, there was a BST who was bored as hell, and spent like a few weeks ******** around in the Temple, using pets to tank. Eventually, he released the pet and let Everyone's Grudge go off. It did somewhere in excess of 13k. I'd hate to see what Everyone's Rancor would do. There was a picture of that around here, but I can't seem to find it.
