owned this bad boy today
10 ppl prty about half of which were rdms >_>
fairly easy cept Paladin lvl 62 got down to less than 100 hp once
Other than that went smoothly
Guardian Statue's special Attacks are as follows
Berserk, Gravity field, Kartstrahl, Panzerschreck, Blitzstrahl, Typhoon, and Panzerfaust.
Typhoon evil small radius AoE
Blitz Panzer and Karts all Just attacks on a single target
Berserk obvious
and then Gravity just slows everyone in AoE
It spams these at a rate of about 1 per 5 seconds
Not joking
I think it barely even ever Physically attacked.
Paladin is definetly best tank for this if ur in a big group. cuz it spams things faster than i can imagine any NIN keeping shadows up for
specially with its occasional AoE's
As far as damage to a 62 pld Attacks only hurt from 50-300.

The only reason it spammed them like that was because you had so many people hitting it and giving it TP. Try it with 1-2 people and see if it still does 1 per 5 seconds.^^ Just use this for future reference fighting mobs, this is why people just use Chi Blast, Spirits Within, and other WSs on Kirin, so they don't give him a lot of TP.
No Problems with this Mob
# Nov 26 2005 at 10:44 AM Rating: Decent
I shouted in Jeuno when i was ready for this one. (Already awhile ago... Just stepped on this Mob again when i gathered some information for a friend.)

A NIN75/RDM37 offered to solo it. I didn't believe that this is working until i saw it with my own eyes. (Since a full PT of 60+ is recommended for this fight)

The Fight took about 15-20 Minutes. I only tossed him Haste, Cure and Refresh. I hadn't to cure very much, though. The NIN/RDM was able to switch between his Shadows and Stoneskin very fast so the mob didn't do much damage. :>

Cure II or III was enough since the NIN's HP never reached yellow during the whole fight.

So, to all the RDMs out there that want this pimp hat: Dont waste time to get a Party (or even an ally). Better get a NIN/RDM and u're set :D

Decided to help my RDM friend in my LS take this statue. I offered to solo it for him since I wanted to not only add another AF mob to my defeated list, but also since it's RDM AF ^^. 75RDM/37NIN I was for this fight. The Guardian Statue has quite a lot of HP and takes awhile for RDM to solo, especially since this thing has very high physical resistance (13 dmg a hit) and also a good magic defense on it. Luckily, Poison II and Bio II stick on it, so some DoT always helps. Pretty much all other enfeebles were resisted.

Not too much a problem with Utsusemi. Due to RDMs Fast Cast, I could recast Utsusemi as the statue attacked. Likes to use some AoEs such as Typhoon which wipes out all shadows, and really hurts the lower levels (300+ dmg each time on the 54 RDM). Panzerpaust can also kill 2 shadows. Since I was the only one actually attacking him, AoE spam wasn't as bad as some people were saying. The statue does hit fairly hard, anywhere between 60-80 damage with Phalanx on. With 4-5 hits before Stoneskin broke if it got through my shadows, not a problem.

Two of my friends needed this finished today (our NIN had to leave after doing Miser Murphy) so I figured I'd take the adventurous route and try to tank it. When I was their level, the typical mindset was to throw as many people as you could at an AF3 fight, sometimes as many as 12 or even 16-18. Fighting something that almost took my full alliance of 55-65s ten minutes to kill with three people? Impossible! But I was up for the challenge. I picked up a tavnazian taco, switched my sub to WAR28, and headed for the Citadel with a RDM58 and a BST70.

Equipment of special notice includes a Jaeger Mantle (just because my SAM wears one and it was going to be better to use than my Rainbow Cape), a Jelly Ring (soloed Sewer Syrup the week before), and a Joyeuse. Everything else was my artifact armor and my generic gear set (Bastok Golden Medal, Morion/Moldavite, Electrum Ring, Forest Rope).

I put up Protect, Shell, Stoneskin, Blink, Phalanx, Aquaveil, Shock Spikes, Haste, Enthunder, Refresh, Regen, Defender, and probably some other things I can't recall right now. I saved up 300 TP on skeletons and had the statue pulled. The beastmaster pulled up Courier Carrie for damage support.

One thing I can recommend... do not let anyone who won't contribute useful melee damage engage. We had our other RDM meleeing and I had to make her stop because it was just spamming too many WSes. There was a noted decrease in WS spam after she stopped, but it still loves to use them non-stop.

Other than that though, I was not getting hit hard at all. Maybe 30-40 damage a hit while I had stoneskin down and keeping hate wasn't difficult. I did notice extreme difficulty in getting any debuffs to land because I didn't bring any of my casting gear, so I stuck with Dia II and didn't bother with anything else. It's also very resistant to physical damage, and light chains are worthless. The BST and I did Savage Blade - Mistral Axe and it barely put a dent in the thing. On our second fight we just started soloing Rampage and Spirits Within.

Near the end of the fight the statue spams WS even more. Just keep fighting and it'll go down.

Any RDM70+ with WAR sub or RDM74 with NIN sub leveled will be able to tank this with the proper precautions easily. I'm looking to find more AF3s to tank now.

Did this last night for a 58RDM friend. Went in with 71RDM/WHM (me) 71NIN/WAR and 72RNG/NIN and killed it no problem. I am almost absolutely sure a NIN could solo it... even at 71. It'd be the longest fight ever... but the Ninja would win!

Edit: Oh... and I'm not sure if this has been said before, but... I'd recommend pulling the statue out to where the Banishing Gate door is. If you pull him all the way into the corner, it gives RNGs and Mages enough room to stay out of AoE range.

THF tankers beware

If you're tanking as a THF for this, be sure to have at least 227 evasion (that's cap of lv66) plus some more from any +evasion you can get your hands on ( I had +46). And even then you will still get hit. The normal attacks aren't a problem. It's the TP attacks and hate controlling that you will one heck of a time dealing with. I went in as 66THF/33NIN with 62RDM/WLM and 58DRK/29WAR. Obviously we didn't expect to win, but I entered in hopes of gathering battle data. Well with 217 evasion (10 off cap) plus the 46 extra, the normal attacks connected about 1 in 5 rounds. Wasn't too hard to deal with. It threw out ALOT of TP attacks, which caught me by surprise, and was what caused our battle to end (we had to warp out). If the THF is the only one hitting it, be sure not to cast hate heavy spells. This includes Stun, which, as I found out the hard way, pulled hate far too much for me to get back in a reasonable time. I had barely landed about 300 dmg before the DRK stunned it and it came rushing towards him.
But after that I pulled it back, but was never able to fully secure hate (due to having to recast utsu, and the RDM curing lots). The TP attacks will hurt. ALOT. Blitzstrahl did on average 200-300, as does Panzerschrek. I did not have the chance to eat Typhoon, but I'm sure it will be around the same damage.

In conclusion, if tanking as THF, get a BRD with double mambo (for +30 evasion?? I don't know the exact values), start off slowly (i.e. let yourself hit it for 5 minutes or so) and hope to god it doesn't pull off too many TP attacks.

not that hard ... get a good PLD and people that know what a SC is and it should be np ^^

I really wonder if that NM is the hardest of all AF NMs ... from my experience, it doesn't seem so ...
right..

Went and did this twice today, as a bit of a challenge expecting {Death}.

First time we went as 61 THF/NIN, 60 RDM/BLM, 60 BRD/WHM and 60 BLM/RDM.

Read about the suggested numbers so were pretty much expecting to get ownaged but wanted a feel for it's difficulty.

Cut a long story short, we won with little difficulty, then another 61 RDM/WHM who needed the fight joined and we done it again.

Both times 0 deaths and taking 15 mins approx per time. The second time, RDM/BLM came as 60 WHM/SMN.

For those interested in specifics, we cleared the room first for TP, the skels didn't aggro us at 60. We buffed up and the RDM popped it, the THF initiated with a Dancing Edge/Spirits Within for initial hate and dragged it into a corner. Mages stood on opposing corner.

The BRD kept 2x Mambo (Evasion Bonus) Songs on THF at all times! The THF had pretty much all evasion gears on - nothing spectacular like elusives earrings, but a good +20 eva from gear.

THF didn't really get hit much, so mages just kept up the DOT spells and nuked in moderation keeping hate on THF and cured when necessary.

Only problem was when it did AoE catching the BRD - we just tossed a few regens/cure 2's.

MP never dropped below half with refresh and ballad going on mages side. THF hp never dropped below 600.

I guess the key is to keep hate on the THF and the evasion songs if you want to try with this setup. Also make sure to keep mages and melee seperated a good distance so less people get hit from AoE.

Good luck, it is not as hard as it sounds - but since we only had 1 melee, the mob rarely got enough tp to do the nasty AoE techniques.
No Alliance needed, 4 ppl can ^^

Killed him today with a 75THF/NIN, 71WHM/BLM, 70+ WHM (was annon) and me a 59RDM/BLM. Easy fight as the THF barely got hit, and when she did cures were plenty. I only refreshed, dispeled and cured^^. Now Miser Murphy was another story :(

I had to kill this thing 5 times in a row yesterday( one time for each rdm), with the assistance of a full alliance. The lv range on the alliance was about 52(a pld too) to about 74(a rdm, which was a bit ironic) and this thing was either be a complete pain in the *** or a total pushover, depending on how it behaves. Sometimes, you'll get one that'll spam its aoe every 5 seconds while other times, you'll get one that do it once. Also, out of those 5 times, it didnt explode once. Guess I got lucky. Btw, why do people keep suggesting that you can solo it with a ninja? Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't a ninja's shadows ( I don't know how to spell that name for it) unable to block aoes?

Heh just for all you rdm who want your hat. This guy is easily soloable. I had a 74 monk with asurain (sp.? lol) fists solo it. Took bout one min. A 74+rdm/ninja can solo, ninja 70+ can and many more.
What i am saying is dont waste 3 hours maken an allience. just find that ninja, monk, bst or what ever. with u (a rdm) healing who ever tanking it ITS EASY.
75 THF/NIN can solo this

Party was 2 58 Rangers, 60 Red Mage and Outkast, a 75 Thief. Right before we started, we kill Old Two Wings, but he only dropped fiend blood. Anyway all I had to do is keep his health up. Fight took about 15 minutes.

Edit: added the letter 'y' to part to make party.

if you're a rdm doing this quest, all you need to do is take a lvl 75 NIN / 37 WAR to solo it. You just stand back and heal the NIN when he gets slept. If you want to be safe, take a DRK or BLM to stun the thing if the NIN needs time to utsusemi. Keep the NIN hasted as well.

Restrain training this thing to the zone!
You think bat trains are bad? How about this beast decimating 32-36 parties by hitting for 330 damage on a tank with +1 armor and food/sentinel. Funny, but NOT cool.

Well, if you can get Gravity to stick and not wear off to quickly, I suppose you could pull it around Garlaige. However, I don't think it would ever explode because I think it needs TP to do so.

No more than 10 minutes ago I killed the Guardian Statue with an alliance of 60PLD/WAR, 60WHM/BLM, 60BRD/WHM, 60DRK/WAR, 60BLM/WHM, 59MNK/WAR, and myself, 60RDM/BLM. There was one death, the DRK, who in my opinion is the greatest DRK ever and therefore a real challenge to keep hate off of. The AOE Typhoon was stunned a couple times but did get off at least 3 times. No 2hours were popped until the end, when the DRK was killed, but were probably not needed anyway. This was after we killed the NM for WHM AF3, who killed our exact same alliance on the first try thanks to Dimensional Deaths on our insane melees. I would say from my experience, the WHM AF3 NM is harder than either of the RDM ones. People may say you need 12-18 people for this one, but if you have an experienced party and maybe a little extra help, you should be fine.

This thing can't be harder than the NM we fought for the WHM AF3 NM. I don't care what it does, no level 61 Doll can match spamming Dimensional Death for hundreds of points of damage on level 70+ paladins every 5 seconds ><

# May 09 2004 at 6:37 PM Rating: Default
No, I"m gonna have to second the first opinion. This NM is no joke. Forget D-death from the ghoast. This bad boy, has an AOE that does the same damage to the whole alliance -repeatedly, and then again, and again (until several people are KO.), then he does it one more time.

This guy sucks.

Having fought both these monsters in one night as a WHM in an alliance, I can say there is a definate tactic to beating both of them. Beyond the normal tactics such as building up TP beforehand, being fully buffed, fed and prepared etc:

WHM AF3 NM, "Mr. Tavnazia" - Have multiple healers and a lv60+ PLD in full AF. At least 2 WHMs constantly casting cure III on the PLD, and have the RDMs watching for agro loss - if someone grabs agro while the WHMs are mid-cast they can and will be killed before the WHMs can start casting again; He destroyed a lv73 DRG in 2 or 3 attacks while I was casting Cure III on the PLD (please, no "tahts cuz DRG/u 5ux0r" replies). Besides that, just have the PLD do his level best to keep hate and kill the thing ASAP before it can deal out too much damage for you to handle. Alliance necessary.

Guardian Statue - When you fight it, have the RDM and an escort sneak up and blink/SS/phalanx, and pull it to the alliance just beyond the first banishing gate, where there is a nice open space. The mages should be next to the door and the doll should be at the far end of the room. This is so the mages don't get pwned by the AoE - it seems to have a relatively short range but it's powerful.

STUN is the word of the day. Load up on PLDs, DRKs and anyone with a stun attack/skill. The AoE skill is called Typhoon, it's the only one it uses that has a decent charge time - it uses a single-target WS as well which has a much shorter/non-existant charge time. Shouldn't be a problem to differentiate between them. When you see it charging (the red lines, monster charge-up sound etc.), have 2 people attempt to stun it (stun is not 100% reliable). We fought it 4 times tonight and it got Typhoon off maybe 5 times tops - none at all in the first fight, once in the second fight and once or twice in the last two fights.

WHMs are on curaga duty, one WHM and RDM or BRD (for MP recovery) per alliance party. Don't hold back the curaga II, it'll save the melees if the next Typhoons aren't stunned.

We basically pwned the doll. It's pretty tame if you're competent and stun the Typhoon attack. No deaths in the alliance, even the BRD who'd gone afk.

DOLL NM for RDM AF Pimp-Hat ;)
# May 03 2004 at 8:22 PM Rating: Good
This is the DOLL NM you must kill after miser murphy in Fei'yin, for the 2nd half of the Red Mage's AF Hat quest... it is a Doll, not a golem, and it does explode. you need to clear out all the surrounding rooms with an alliance (freferably 65+, but 18 55+ can work, if organized), just inside the 1st Banishing Gate.
Keep in mind, this is noted as the MOST difficult Artifact armour-related NM in FFXI, so start sharpening your swords and claws... ^^
