General Information

Angra Mainyu's Spawn Location
Angra Mainyu's Spawn Location

  • Upon death, a ??? will spawn in the location where it died. Clicking on this ??? for the first time will reward the player with the Hydra Corps Insignia key item.

  • When aggroed, Angra Mainyu will spawn four dragons ( Fire Pukis, Wind Pukis, Petro Pukis, and Poison Pukis). It is advised to kite these four dragons a safe distance away before attacking Angra Mainyu, as it will recall them to his position once damage is dealt.

  • Routinely "teleports" around the square after being engaged. It is recommended to have Summoner avatars, Beastmaster pets, or Puppetmaster automatons attack it, as they will auto-follow it whenever it teleports, thus allowing the rest of the alliance to determine its new position.

Angra Mainyu Special Attacks

  • Graviga: AoE Gravity effect (circle of effect originates from spell target).

  • Sleepga II: AoE Sleep effect (circle of effect originates from spell target).

  • Silencega: AoE Silence effect (circle of effect originates from spell target).

  • Death: Single target Death effect (reduces target hp to zero).

  • Airy Shield: Self target Ranged Attack immunity (effect can be dispelled).

  • Magic Barrier: Self target Magic spell immunity (will not protect from magic damage from sources other than magic spells, such as Skillchain damage).

  • Blindeye: Single target physical damage with additional Blind effect.

  • Eyes On Me: Strong single target Dark based magic damage. (Cannot be blocked by shadows.)

  • Level 5 Petrify: AoE Petrify effect. (Will only affect players, pets, and fellowship npcs whose Job level is a multiple of 5).

  • Binding Wave: AoE Bind effect.

  • Mind Break: Frontal cone gaze AoE MP Down effect. (effect can be avoided by facing away from the mob.)

  • Hypnosis: Frontal cone gaze AoE Sleep effect. (effect can be avoided by facing away from the mob.)

  • Chainspell: Reduces all casting and recast timers for magic spells to zero. Denoted by mob 2hr animation effect.

Historical Information

Angra Mainyu, in Zoroastrian belief, is the personification of all evil, opposing his twin brother Spenta Mainyu, the personification of all good. Said to have introduced to the world all forms of suffering, Angra Mainyu is considered an eternal destroyer and ruler of darkness, creating the dragon Azi Dahaka (see Dahak), which ravaged the Earth.

Angra Mainyu is also known as Ahriman (see Ahriman), hence why this mob is depicted in the game as an Ahriman.

The boss of dynamis beauc.

It teleports randomly around the wide open area in front of feyin. You need to keep a pet of some kind on it so you don't waste time looking for it while you have 4 pissed off dragons chasing the kiter.
who cares about FFX-2

why are 90% of these posts about FFX-2? Anyone who's read these posts knows what this mob is, but here's a tip, Keep a carby on him, when he teleports away, carby will automatically run to his new location. Just follow the avatars, saves time.

Spells and abilities I've seen it use:
Slowga
Dispelga
Sleepga II
Graviga
Death
Silencega
Teleportation around the fei yin zone
And of course, spawns the 4 dark dragons:
Poison Pukis
Wind Pukis
Fire Pukis
and the Petro Pukis upon aggro.

Idk if it had chainspell up b4 it died, but it spammed death 4 times within its last 3% HP.

Angra Mainyu is not originally just a boss battle in X-2. It's actually more commonly refered to as the demon prince. so thats what it's comming from. not a similar character from another FF.

Final Fantasy is always referring back to other characters and monsters in previous Final Fantasy games...it gives Final Fantasy fans a sense of familiarity which endears the series to the fans - that's where it is coming from dude
Bring the old look back!

They should make him look like what he did back in FFX-2! :(

It would sure make him a noticeable individual again, as well as making him and the surroundings interesting.

For as tough as he was, angra and his 'arms' don't deserve to be depicted as a simple ahriman(!) After all, that's not what he was, he was a mysterious ancient demonic 'thing' of unknown origin and incredible power.(In my words at least)

looks like he lost some of his weight. Why is this the main big boss of dynamis? he looks like a rabbit could take him on.

Yep, this guy is in FF X-2. You randomly run into him while digging in Bikanel Desert(or at least that's where I have).

And, yeah, in X-2, Angra Mainyu isn't an Ahriman. However, in real mythology he IS relate to Ahriman.

In ancient Persian (Iran) religion and books of Zoroastrianism, Angra Mainyu is the god of darkness, the eternal destroyer of good, personification and creator of evil, bringer of death and disease. He is also known as Ahriman, and his name means "fiendish spirit".

He is seen as the personification of evil, he leading the dark forces against the hosts of Spenta Mainyu, the holy spirit, who assisted Ahura Mazda, the wise lord, and final victor of the cosmic conflict. Ahriman introduced the frost in winter, heat in summer, all manner of diseases and other ills, to thwart Ahura Mazda, and he also created the dragon Azi Dahaka, who brought ruin to the Earth.

When Ahura Mazda created the heavens, Azi Dahaka sprung into the sky like a snake, and in opposition to the stars formed the planets. Both Ahriman and Ormazd were offspring of Zurvan Akarana, who had vowed that the firstborn should reign as king. Ahriman thus ripped open his mother's womb, and Zurvan pronounced that he should rule only for nine thousand years, after which period his twin brother should reign in his place.

Ahriman's chief weapon was concupiscence, through which all that was his should be devoured , even his own creation. There was a female counterpart of Ahriman, called Az, and it is said that when Ahriman saw the righteous man he swooned, and lay in a faint for three thousand years, until the 'accursed *****', Jeh, awoke him and defiled men with her destructive spirit, introducing fear, jealousy, lust and greed into man.

Ahriman lives in darkness, in a place where all those who do evil go to after their demise (Hell) and his symbol is the snake. He is what in Christian religion can be called Satan.

So, yeah, that's where it comes from. Man, FF is dripped in mythology. :P And, I just restarted FF X-2(stupid me forgetting to talk to Tromell in chapter 1! >:( I had gotten to chapter 4! XD). Also, the link where I got that from is:

Angra Mainyu in both games is hell. ;D
Eek...?

Wow, this little guy killed me multiple times in X-2 with that stupid Perditions Flame. Somehow he doesn't seem as frightening in this game.

So ahriman is acctually the superior choice.

This guy is a beast in FFXI.

He has extremely high resist to physical and magic damage. My Elem Seal Aero IV did about 100-200 dmg to him at 73BLM with all my Elemental Skill+ equipment on. He has a move that will resist magic outright for a given amount of time. (Very bad to cast Aeroga III and see it didnt even touch him)

When attacked this guy spawns fire Dragons, like the Shadow Dragon from Xarcabard or the Rank 3 Dragons: Fire Pukis, Wind Pukis, Poison Pukis, and Petra Pukis. He spawns at Fei'yin zone, and most people will pull him away from the large area and up the ramp from the ponds in Beaucadine. It is VERY scary to look down and see FOUR of these massive dragons creeping up, one after the next, and this mob.

General strategy is to have a party kite each Pukis while the rest of the group kills Angra. He will teleport around the Fey'yin zone area while fighting. He spams Silencega, Blindga, and Gravga. He is also the Final Boss for Dynamis-Beaucadine, so once you kill him make sure to access the ??? point before the Pukis Dragons kill everyone.

I have a nice screenshot of this mob if the forum on here wants to post it. We beat it a couple of weeks back and I took a few pics of it along with Dynamis Lord the following week. I'll try to submit them but there is no spot on the board listing Dynamis Lord. Angra looks like a grey statue version of an ahriman. Dynamis Lord looks like the second form of shadowlord but much larger and 10000000X as nasty.
God..

Oi.. I'm off to Dynamis-Beaucedine tonight.. We're trying to figure out the best way to get these dragons far enough away from Angra in order to fight.. It's gonna be sketchy, to say the least.

This thing likes to Chainspell+Death which is really fun seeing "XXXX falls to the ground lifelessly. XXXX was defeated by the Angra Mainyu." spammed in your log =P

It has very high resistance to spells and physicals. A 300%TP Spirits Within does about 1/4 its real damage. (like 150 dmg @ 1300HP) And it also likes to warp around the Fei'Yin area (like AA Tarutaru)
Wow

In FFX-2 Just get rid of his MP first. Saves you alot of pain. As for FFXI, I have no idea, But I know this: I'd run. Fast.

I beat Angra Manyu in FFX. lol it was SUCH a long battle, level 38-40. Payne with all str gear, rikkyu with HP, and Yuna as healer. Cake but long at that level. If I maxed level it'd of been cake, wish i could redo the battle with my 99 girls ^^ And angra is a wierd looking mob, Huge kinda Statue looking Creatures for arms. Looks nothing like a Ahriman.
Ahriman

Yes this guy was in X-2 but i dont think he looks like the one, because he is here under the Ahriman family, known as the Floaty balls, (the gazer from mission 2.3) and i did beat him up in x-2 for the "Episode Complete!" For Bikanel Desert

in ffx-2 catnip is an item droped from the dark elemental in the area underneith bevelle, it adds "SOS ????" to your support abilites which makes it so when your hp is in the yellow you hit, heal, and pretty much everything else involving one of those to do 9999

The best part of Final Fantasy XI is its rich storyline. It separates this game from other MMORPGs. I chose to give my character a storyline that goes along with the game's storyline. I find that this is a more fun way to play the game. Playing the game just to fight in the endgame and collect elite equipment is very boring and is totally missing the main objective of the game, which is to guide your character through the storyline which is to save the world.
