My Lucky Day

I was walking to Bastok with my friend, a level 18 WAR with no sub. He got aggroed, and I managed to solo it with my 30RDM/12WHM. Man, what a fight! It used it's HP down attack and i managed to walk out with 21 HP left. It would have been so much easier if I had more MP, but I used all of mine Sneak/Invising my friend through Valkurm. I told my ls that I killed it (my first time solo'ing a NM!!) and they told me that it wasn't a NM. I was kindda bummed, but after checking this sight, I guess that it's my first solo after all!

Thank you for posting that! If your Linkshell isn't proud of you, I for one am. I took him on with my Warp Cudgel about a week ago on my 37WHM/17BLM that I use for Teleport/Warp to make Gil in my spare time. I saw it and took a few minutes to decide if I want to fight it or not. If were to lose, I'd lose my level. I took the chance and won. Not much for a story though. I like yours so much more. Usually when I read posts like yours it's coming from a level 75 who can solo almost every low level NM. Yet another reason why I like your post. :)

i went to Highlands for the purpose of killing RR or mr. steely cause i really need the horn for the purple quest so i could do the brownbelt quest then of course black belt, im currently 2/3 for black belt. The night before my friend killed mr. steely and gave me ToD so i woke up early to prepare and went to highlands as 75whm/20rng i took a nap because my friend wouldnt be on for another hr and window wasnt for another 3. When i got back 1hr later my friend was camping RR for me but lost claim to some pld. we spent the next 6hrs there camping him -.-;; my mother had just gotten home and i thought what the heck i made about 150k while waiting for him i can wait one more pop to finish my stack of ram leather. I checked widescan and there he was i got him and got the stupid horn.

So my advice dont camp unless you have over 5hrs to camp the **** thing. Also have high enough leathercraft to make leather inbetween pops. i made about 20stacks of leather while camping... <fun>

In Konschtadt, farming tremor rams for leathercraft as 30war/thf. Was out there for about 20 minutes and only found one tremor ram, so a 30whm/rng came out to help. He gets there and spots Rampaging. We run over and I voke. We were doing alright until the WHM runs out of mp, and he wipes us both out. Didn't even have time to divine seal or anything. We hp, changed jobs to War/Nin and Whm/blm. Grab a tele and head back out. Luckily he's still there. So I throw up my shadows and whm buffs with protect and shell. I voke again, this time it was an easy easy easy fight. He landed max hp down on us. But we killed him in under 4 minutes. So much easier with nin and blm.

I saw this animal today on the southwest side of H-7. I attacked it because I though it was a tremor ram. When I started hitting it and the HP wasn't really moving much, I knew something was wrong. hehe. It turned out I picked a fight with the wrong ram.

I am a whm42/BLM18 and I had an Oak Pole+1 equipped but my MP was only about half. After using a divine seal + cure III and then a benediction, i was losing HP cause he was hitting me really quick, so I decided to run away. I knew I wouldn't be able to make it to a zone and my MP was drained because of all the Banish II spells I cast, so I couldn't warp either.

So I ran to the Crag, paid the NPC the fee to get on a Chocobo, and that's how I escaped. Haha. This must be the first time a chocobo saved my life. Later on a 75 WHM came and finished him off.

I noticed that RR is listed as only popping near the Crag, but TRs can spawn right near the zone line for the Dunes...is it possible for RR to pop there as well?

Just adding if people havent notived. This is a Lottery Pop. It replaces the Tremor Ram pop. I have been camping this thing for 2 days killing numerous sheep. Must have killed over 400 sheep so far. The RR still hasnt popped.

What a freaking pain. Because I need this for Purple Belt Quest. Not only for the belt but to increase my fame.

This was really easy. It misses alot, and I just turn around on its weapon skills to avoid getting petrified or wahtever it does. 1/1 RAmpaging horn, 4 ram skins, 2 horns. Was heading to Valkurm when I spotted it. And killed tremor ram near it also. I thought it'd be harder...

I have been capming now for 3 days (RL). I camped last night for 4 hours with no pop (yes I have widescan) and no competition.

He has been stolen from me twice. By stolen I mean I was camping alone and doing random shouts for anyone around to tell me if they saw him. I had 2 people on the lookout.

Then here comes some random P.O.S. passerby that gets to him before i can and takes him down while I beg for horn. I am on the verge of getting my self banned from the **** game for cursing at these bastards!

idk if it just happens to me or everyone else but when u least expect ************ NMs pop right in front of your eyes!^^Most of the time,
i'm on a chocobo too, going from Jeuno to wherever
It has happened to me with Rampaging Ram on several occasions[20+times].He likes to spawn around H-8;that's where i've seen him pop at least 10 times. He's not too tough but he does have great defense or HP,cuz it takes a while for me to take him down!btw i been beating his *** since lvl 34 RDM!the higher the lvl,the lesser threat he becomes;i dont quite remember ever being in yellow HP for long time, but do watch for his Great Bleat and Petribreath;these attacks do hurt the situation between owning him or being owned!on the UPSIDE^^>>>his accuracy blows. You'll feel like you're fighting a blind mouse! He probably misses 8/10 hits;but when they land, depending on lvls, sting like a biotch. If you're a Mage class player, buff up and hit him with Sleep spells[they do stick]then enfeeble da crap outta him, once you're done nuke his *** with Wind based spells as he's Earth Based mob!
"dont forget refresh,or mana drinks..they help facilitate the process!Now if you're Melee types;
Drink Pamama au lait or better, macro equip items with high ACC. and EVA. and proceed to tame and rape his BIGASS silly;added STR. to you equip helps for those big hits;as for Food, try Boiled Cockatrice[resistance to petrify+].Good luck^^
P.S.I'm not really sure on Rampaging Horn drop but i'm on 18/18 on his horn...idk if its 100% but folks that i've helped acquire Horn aren't complaining! All the power to those that constantly break your limits and limitations when it comes to soloing Mobs/NMs/HNMs!^^

i was out farming sheepskins today and thought i would try to find stray mary and rampaging ram. i have never seen either up to this point, just the tremor rams. after running around and killing a few rams i found rampaging ram. i engaged it as a 42blm and it took a while. with a horribly undercapped staff and poor def as blm it took most of what i had. it didnt help that i entered battle at 260/418 mp and 480/656 hp. luckily for me i started with 250TP and hit it for just over 300. i was in the dead center of h-8. for a blm i recommend using protect and aquaveil before you engage and if necessary, blink. my spells didnt do much to him so i stuck with melee and cureII/III

There is 2 spawn Areas for 2 different Tremor Rams. Each Tremor Ram will respawn 4 game hours after death, about 10mins to 10:15mins. One spawn area is West of Crags. Second Spawn area is the North area of map near Valkurm Dunes.

I only camped this guy for about 30 minutes and he popped over on the west side of H-7, almost on the border of G/H-7. As a 41MNK/20WAR, I took him down with only a few scratches when I used Hundred Fists. I probably could have taken him even without 2-houring, but I wanted to get the fight over with.

So yeah, he's not too tough.

Ram Spawn times and Information

The normal Rams in this area (Tremor Rams) respawn 4 game hours after Time of Death.

It didn't take very long for Lambert to pop, so my info is limited, but the first placeholder popped near the shattered telepoint area on the West side of the crag. Lambert popped on the North side of the crag, just off the normal telepoint. This is a little outside what the NM maps show.

Best bet obviously is to use widescan - A level 1 Ranger's widescan should be sufficient. Beastmaster level 20 isn't quite as wide, but better than nothing.

Follow the grid line between H and I, going north and south, scanning every few game minutes.
Once you've found a Ram, note the time it died, and expect another to pop in the area 4 game hours later.

Tonight I found that the two Ram spawn areas - one mentioned above, the other on the NW part of the map - are seperate. Had two rams up at once.
Not sure yet if the NM's pop in that area - will edit if they do.

Beat this yesterday as 40MNK/10RNG (for Widescan). Took me about 1-1/2 hours to get it to spawn after killing 5 rams.

I got the claim, used Focus and Dodge at the start and wailed on him for about 30 seconds, it was fairly even (had no food and was using my lvl 32 knucks) so my damage output isn't as good as it should be. I slapped on hundred fists and he went down within a minute. He used rampage on me and that was it. I finished up with ~470hp/790 and the rampaging horn.

Was made easier at the time cause I was the only one in the spawn areas.

Me and my friend camped Stray mary last night, i saw a tremor on my widescan, thought, wth. So i run and grab it..and decide to joke around and have it chase me everywhere. while its chasing me, i see rampagin ram on my wde scan, Run my **** over to it, from like halfway across te highlands, WITH a tremor following me. then i start to beat it and sum guy camping it for 3 hours took my treor ram =/...but oh well. got the drop(i think its 100%) and now i am on my road to getting brow belt =)

I just beat him as level 45 taru THF, was looking a little grim at first though, but after i ate my meat, i slowly regained the lead on him, even though cyclone didn't seem to have any major effect, when he used great bleat, i resisted, while a level 53 PLD next to me got hit by it, dunno if my almighty 8 earth resistance from my dual stamina rings has anything to do with it...^^ i won the battle with 212 HP left with perfect dodge used during it(activated at the same time it used great bleat).

Tarutaru, Level 45THF/22RNG, +5 STR(3 from mutton), +4 DEX, +7 VIT, +1 AGI, +10 evasion, +21 attack(before food), and +30 HP(and +1%HP=5HP) from equipment.

I didn't check on his level though, could've walked in front of him to see if he'd aggro me, but since i had waited 10 hours for him to pop, and needed the first SA, i didn't feel like it...^^

Camped it for about 3 hours to get the Purple Belt item... Steelfleece popped first. I actually knew Steelfleece's time of death since it killed me yesterday <_< And then ended up camping Rampaging at the same time.

So following the rumors I heard, I waited a bit longer, and sure enough, Rampaging spawned 30 mins after Steelfleece. Got it, killed it, got the drop.

And like someone else said, negotiate with other farmers. Most people will just be farming for Ram Horns, and don't even know what the Rampaging Horn is for. Tell them you need it for a quest, and they'll probably let you have it.

Also, if you see a bunch of highh levels around there, Steelfleece is probably due. He also drops the Rampaging Horn, and chances are, these high levels won't really care much about it. So talk to them, tell them you're after Rampaging.. so then they'll probably tell you if it spawns, and they might let you have the Horn if it drops from Steelfleece.

Brown Belt is selling for ~1 million gil on Bismark server so I thought I'd quest it, meaning I would have to complete Purple Belt quest 1st.

Took my RDM50/RNG5 out to the Highlands and started spamming wide scan =/ A couple of high lvl RNGs and THFs were camping him as well, so I had no expectations of actually claiming him. Amazingly enough I killed most the Tremor Rams that spawned, and after about 1 hour of doing so Rampaging Ram popped. He spawned pretty close to another RDM (who was in full AF), but I guess he was just out of sight. I waltzed right up to the the blasted Ram, casted Dia, and proceeded to hack away his HP. Killed him, got the horn, and headed out to the Plateau for Lumbering Lambert. Then, after seeing a lvl 73 SMN solo Bloodtear, Lambert spawns after ~30 minutes of camping. Got the claim, got the horn, finished the quest.

Now I have to camp the Brown Belt NMs ;.;

I'm not sure if the horns are a 100% drop, but I would much rather have RNG subbed instead of THF 'cause without it I feel like I'm running in the dark >< g'luck and happy camping ^^

you could also sub bst for the widescan and use charm for the claim. You cannot charm NMs so it's a quick pull.

Drops *are* 100% for the mobs for purple belt quest. Thf class is if you want to "flee" to your target to "steal" it from opponents. But if you are alone camping the rams, there is no reason for you to have thf if it's not your main and not your good class.

Alright, for those who thinks this is an easy NM to camp, it is. Only problem : It takes a long time if you're not lucky. The rams pops every 4 hours (game time). On those rams there is a lotery for the Rampaging ram. No need to say it takes quite a few if it's not a lucky day.

Just camped that NM for almost 7 hours straight and finally got him (almost didn't cause of a redmage who wanted to kill an nm).

To camp this NM you need :
-Good diplomacy skills; there WILL be farmers after them, so deal your way around it to get the NM kill.
-Ranger; no ranger = you running around and missing all pops.
-A thf for flee and steal if you failed your diplomacy. Farmers are really quick on those, you need to be quicker.
-And lastly, an excelent timing with the respawns. 4hours (game) between when he dissapears when dead and when he comes back up.

If you don't have all of this, do something else you will lose your time. Same strategy goes for LL.

PS: Be prepaired for nasty tricks from the Rampaging Ram, he does petrifie and a health down curse. If he does both you are as good as dead. Its always good to have a backup helper just in case "the worst happens".

edit: precision about the respawn timer

Learn to read : 4 hours game time (about 10 minutes real life) for a tremor to spawn from the time he dissapears when you killed him. No more, no less.

It's possible for a RNG to solo this NM as low as 31 with little risk to their own well being. With a NIN sub, a good crossbow, and Sleep Bolts you can kill it quite easily, though it'll be a long fight and take you 20-50 sleep bolts. Just keep pelting him with sleep bolts. If you're feeling risque, cast Utsusemi, switch to Holy Bolts and Barrage him, then switch back to Sleep bolts before he goes through your shadows.

The strategy worked beautifully on Lumbering Lambert. Without Sleep Bolts, he'll surely kill the RNG aspiring to kill him. Tried twice the conventional method - first time took a nap, second time I Shadowstiched him and ran out until he lost aggro, then attempted the Sleep Bolt route once he had regained ALL his HP and extracted revenge for my earlier nap.

Hi, just wanted to post my info to help other monks. hunted Rampaging for about 2 hours, he spawned, no one touched him, i claimed with chi-blast, used focus and dodge, started beating on him, used Raging Fists, then chakra at about 700/944 hp, used Raging Fists again, Rampaging Ram = dead, i had more then half hp left.....:D

im 41 monk btw, had level 1 ranger subbed at the time, for widescan....

hope this cleanses the fear from some monks who think they should be higher level. no need at all, and no need for 2 hour either....

I ran into this thing once on my RDM27... didn't know it was an NM... anyway I engaged but found out my weapon was in my Mog Safe, so I ended up calling for help and being saved by a WAR17.

Heh.

I'm pretty sure you're talking about Tremor Ram... my MNK friend almost died against Ramapaging Ram at level 47. No way could a weaponless RDM27 and a WAR17 kill Ramaging Ram.

he hits pretty hard and would rip through any of the other jobs i wouldnt want to try my white mage against him..the only thing is he misses alot

A judging rule to use when hunting NM's: Add +5 to their level, and make sure your 3 levels above that just to be safe.

This NM does not spawn in La Theine Plateau, the NM you're thinking of in La Theine is Lumbering Lambert. Do not get these two confused b/c in order to complete the Purple Belt quest, you must defeat and obtain both NM's horns. Lumbering Horn from Lumbering Lambert (La Theine Plateau) and Rampaging Horn from Rampaging Ram (Konschtat Highlands). Though it is a common mistake, try not to get them confused for this reason. ^^

Trick question. If the answer really is 7 then to get to the final boss you have to back track to the last block puzzle room and take the secret exit.

Came across him while camping Stray Mary today. Wasn't expecting to see him, and didn't know what his level was, but as I had my NIN 2 hour available, I figured it was worth a shot.

I hit him with Kurayami to blind and pull him, then Hojo to slow. Then used Retsu to paralyze him. After that it was a cakewalk, though not a fast cakewalk. He just couldn't hit me. I had to recast Utsusemi once. In all, I lost 6 shadows. The fight went on long enough that I was able to get 100% TP again and fire off another WS.

At first I was concerned, because my first round of hits didn't seem to do any damage to him. But after a couple rounds I saw his HP was slowly but steadily dropping and realized that he just could not hit me.

I can't remember all that he dropped, but one of the items was the Rampaging Horn. Now I just need to find Lumbering Lambert again (only time I've come across him was as a 12 BST...)

they have an invisible 10 levels.

so it drops the xp of an even at 27/28 but it fights as if it were 37/38.

This would check for you as a decent challenge. as it is a notorious mobster, and the fact its a ram all together. its gonna be a little hard. try at 35ish.

you're 2-3 levels above it and a level 30 can barely, if he is lucky, take an even match. most likely some enfeebling red mage will do that..
